Hence,water related stress cause severe threat to rice production. Drought is a major challenge limiting rice production. It affects rice at morphological(reduced germination,plant height,plant biomass,number of tillers,various root and leaf traits),physiological(reduced photosynthesis,transpiration,stomatal conductance,water use efficiency,relative water content,chlorophyll content,photosystem Ⅱ activity,membrane stability,carbon isotope discrimination and abscisic acid content),biochemical(accumulation of osmoprotectant like proline,sugars,polyamines and antioxidants) and molecular(altered expression of genes which encode transcription factors and defence related proteins) levels and thereby affects its yield. To facilitate the selection or development of drought tolerant rice varieties,a thorough understanding of the various mechanisms that govern the yield of rice under water stress condition is a prerequisite. | 10 | Evaluating the effectiveness of marine actinobacterial extract and its mediated titanium dioxide nanoparticles in the degradation of azo dyes显示文摘Aim of the present study was to synthesize titanium dioxide nanoparticles(TiO2 NPs) from marine actinobacteria and to develop an eco-friendly azo-dye degradation method. A total of five actinobacterial isolates were isolated from Chennai marine sediments, Tamilnadu, India and analyzed for the synthesis of TiO2 NPs using titanium hydroxide. Among these, the isolate PSV 3 showed positive results for the synthesis of TiO2 NPs, which was confirmed by UV analysis. Further characterization of the synthesized TiO2 NPs was done using XRD, AFM and FT-IR analysis. Actinobacterial crude extract and synthesized TiO2 NPs was found efficient in degrading azo dye such as Acid Red 79(AR-79) and Acid Red 80(AR-80). Degradation percentage was found to be 81% for AR-79, 83% for AR-80 using actinobacterial crude extract and 84% for AR-79, 85% for AR-80 using TiO2 NPs. Immobilized actinobacterial cells showed 88% for AR-79 and 81% for AR-80, dye degrading capacity. Degraded components were characterized by FT-IR and GC-MS analysis. The phytotoxicity test with 500 μg/mL of untreated dye showed remarkable phenotypic as well as cellular damage to Tagetes erecta plant. Comparatively no such damage was observed on plants by degraded dye components. | 13 | Voxel-based magnetic resonance imaging investigation of poor and preserved clinical insight in people with schizophrenia显示文摘AIM To define regional grey-matter abnormalities in schizophrenia patients with poor insight(Insight-),relative to patients with preserved clinical insight(Insight+),and healthy controls.METHODS Forty stable schizophrenia outpatients(20 Insight-and 20 Insight+) and 20 healthy controls underwent whole brain magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).Insight in all patients was assessed using the Birchwood Insight Scale(BIS;a self-report measure).The two patient groups were preselected to match on most clinical and demographic parameters but,by design,they had markedly distinct BIS scores.Voxel-based morphometry employed in SPM8 was used to examine group differences in grey matter volumes across the whole brain.RESULTS The three participant groups were comparable in age [F(2,57) = 0.34,P = 0.71] and the patient groups did not differ in age at illness onset [t(38) = 0.87,P = 0.39].Insight-and Insight+ patient groups also did not differ in symptoms on the Positive and Negative Syndromes scale(PANSS):Positive symptoms [t(38) = 0.58,P = 0.57],negative symptoms [t(38) = 0.61,P = 0.55],general psychopathology [t(38) = 1.30,P = 0.20] and total PANSS scores [t(38) = 0.21,P = 0.84].The two patient groups,as expected,varied significantly in the level of BIS-assessed insight [t(38) = 12.11,P < 0.001].MRI results revealed lower fronto-temporal,parahippocampal,occipital and cerebellar grey matter volumes in Insightpatients,relative to Insight+ patients and healthy controls(for all clusters,family-wise error corrected P < 0.05).Insight+ patient and healthy controls did not differ significantly(P > 0.20) from each other.CONCLUSION Our findings demonstrate a clear association between poor clinical insight and smaller fronto-temporal,occipital and cerebellar grey matter volumes in stable long-term schizophrenia patients. | Adegboyega Sapara Dominic H Ffytche Michael A Cooke Steven CR Williams Veena Kumari | 2016 | World Journal of Psychiatry2016,6,3: | 3 |

| 15 | Preeclampsia and eclampsia: Etiopathogenesis and perioperative management显示文摘Preeclampsia is a pregnancy specific syndrome of elusive etiology, developing in 2nd trimester and associated with high maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. The spectrum ranges from mild preeclampsia with no systemic involvement to multi-system involvement. The course is unpredictable and delivery is the only curative treatment. Elevated blood pressure(> 160/110 mm Hg) should be reduced gradually to a safe level(140/90) using antihypertensive drugs. Prophylaxis and treatment of convulsions using Mg SO4 is indicated for severe preeclampsia. Fluid therapy is controversial due to potential delicate balance between constricted plasma volume and risk of fluid overload and pulmonary oedema secondary to increased capillary permeability and reduced colloid osmotic pressure. Single shot spinal anaesthesia is the technique of choice for caesarean delivery unless contraindicated. General anaesthesia is indicated in patients with coagulopathy or eclampsia but is associated with risk of difficult airway and exaggerated sympathetic response during laryngoscopy. | 18 | Assessment of quality control system by sigma metrics and quality goal index ratio: A roadmap towards preparation for NABL显示文摘AIM To study sigma metrics and quality goal index ratio(QGI). METHODS The retrospective study was conducted at the Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory, PGIMS, Rohtak, which recently became a National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration of Laboratories accredited lab as per the International Organization for Standardization 15189:2012 and provides service to a > 1700-bed tertiary care hospital. Data of 16 analytes was extracted over a period of one year from January 2017 to December 2017 for calculation of precision, accuracy, sigma metrics, total error, and QGI. RESULTS The average coefficient of variation ranged from 2.12%(albumin) to 5.42%(creatinine) for level 2 internal quality control and 2%(albumin) to 3.62%(high density lipoprotein-cholesterol) for level 3 internal quality control. Average coefficient of variation of all the parameters was below 5%, reflecting very good precision. The sigma metrics for level 2 indicated that 11(68.5%) of the 16 parameters fall short of meeting Six Sigma quality performance. Of these, five failed to meet minimum sigma quality performance with metrics less than 3, and another six just met minimal acceptable performance with sigma metrics between 3 and 6. For level 3, the data collected indicated eight(50%) of the parameters did not achieve Six Sigma quality performance, out of which three had metrics less than 3, and five had metrics between 3 and 6. QGI ratio indicated that the main problem was inaccuracy in the case of total cholesterol, aspartate transaminase, and alanine transaminase(QGI > 1.2), imprecision in the case of urea(QGI < 0.8), and both imprecision and inaccuracy for glucose.CONCLUSION On the basis of sigma metrics and QGI, it may be concluded that the Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory, PGIMS, Rohtak was able to achieve satisfactory results with world class performance for many analytes one year preceding the accreditation by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration of Laboratories. | 19 | Quality of life in end stage renal disease patients显示文摘AIM:To understand factors associated with quality of life(QOL),examine types of QOL instruments,and determine need for further improvements in QOL assessment.METHODS:The method used databases(Pubmed,Google scholar) and a bibliographic search using key words QOL,end stage renal disease,Hemodialysis,Peritoneal dialysis,instruments to measure QOL,patients and qualitative/quantitative analysis published during 1990 to June 2014.Each article was assessed for sample size,demographics of participants,study design and type of QOL instruments used.We used WHO definition of QOL.RESULTS:For this review,109 articles were screened,out of which 65 articles were selected.Out of 65 articles,there were 19 reports/reviews and 12 questionnaire manuals.Of the 34 studies,82% were quantitative while only 18% were qualitative.QOL instruments measured several phenomenon such as physical/psychological health,effects and burdens of kidney disease,social support etc.those are associated with QOL.Few studies looked at spiritual beliefs,cultural beliefs,personal concerns,as per the WHO definition.Telemedicine and Palliative care have now been successfully used however QOL instruments seldom addressed those in the articles reviewed.Also noticed wasthat longitudinal studies were rarely conducted.Existing QOL instruments only partially measure QOL.This may limit validity of predictive power of QOL.CONCLUSION:Culture and disease specific QOL instruments that assess patients' objective and subjective experiences covering most aspects of QOL are urgently needed. | Veena D Joshi | 2014 | World Journal of Nephrology2014,3,4: | 3 |
