A universal pipeline for mobile mRNA detection and insights into heterografting advantages under chilling stress显示文摘Heterografting has long been used to enhance the chilling tolerance of temperature-sensitive crops, including watermelon, whose mechanism is known to involve bidirectional long-distance mRNA movements.Despite several studies reporting on mobile mRNA(mb-mRNA)profiles in plants, accurate identification of mb-mRNAs is challenging owing to an array of technical problems. Here,we developed a bioinformatical pipeline that took most of the known technical concerns into consideration and is considered to be a universal tool for mb-mRNA detection in heterografts.By applying this pipeline to a commercial watermelon–bottle gourd heterografting system,we detected 130 and 1144 mb-mRNAs upwardly and 167 and 1051 mb-mRNAs downwardly transmitted under normal and chilling-stress conditions, respectively.Quantitative real-time PCR indicated a high accuracy rate(88.2%)of mb-mRNA prediction with our pipeline. We further revealed that the mobility of mRNAs was not associated with their abundance.Functional annotation and classification implied that scions may convey the stress signal to the rootstock, subsequently triggering energy metabolism reprogramming and abscisic acid-mediated stress responses by upward movement of effective mRNAs,ultimately leading to enhanced chilling tolerance. This study provides a universal tool for mb-mRNA detection in plant heterografting systems and novel insights into heterografting advantages under chilling stress. | Ying Wang Lingping Wang Nailin Xing Xiaohua Wu Xinyi Wu Baogen Wang Zhongfu Lu Pei Xu Ye Tao Guojing Li Yuhong Wang | 2020 | Horticulture Research2020,7,1: | 3
Extensive Inter-plant Protein Transfer between Cuscuta Parasites and Their Host Plants显示文摘Cuscuta species(dodders)are holoparasites that totally rely on host plants to survive.Although various mobile proteins have been identified to travel within a plant, whether and to what extent protein transfer between Cuscuta and host plants remain unclear. We found that hundreds to more than 1500 proteins were transferred between Cuscuta and the host plants Arabidopsis and soybean, and hundreds of interplant mobile proteins were even detected in the seeds of Cuscuta and the host soybean.Different hosts bridge-connected by dodder were also found to exchange hundreds of proteins.Quantitatively, the mobile proteins represent a few to more than 10%of the proteomes of foreign plants.Using Arabidopsis plants expressing different reporter proteins,we further showed that these reporter proteins could travel between plants and, importantly, retained their activity in the foreign plants.Comparative analysis between the interplant mobile proteins and mRNAs indicated that the majority of mobile proteins were not de novo synthesized from the translocated mRNAs,but bona fide mobile proteins. We propose that large-scale inter-plant protein translocation may play an important role in the interactions between host plants and dodder and even among the dodder bridge-connected hosts. | Nian Liu Guojing Shen Yuxing Xu Hui Liu Jingxiong Zhang Shalan Li Jing Li Cuiping Zhang Jinfeng Qi Lei Wang Jianqiang Wu | 2020 | Molecular Plant2020,13,4: | 3
Current understanding of maize and rice defense against insect herbivores显示文摘Plants have sophisticated defense systems to fend off insect herbivores. How plants defend against herbivores in dicotyledonous plants, such as Arabidopsis and tobacco, have been relatively well studied, yet little is known about the defense responses in monocotyledons. Here, we review the current understanding of rice(Oryza sativa) and maize(Zea mays) defense against insects. In rice and maize, elicitors derived from insect herbivore oral secretions or oviposition fluids activate phytohormone signaling, and transcriptomic changes mediated mainly by transcription factors lead to accumulation of defense-related secondary metabolites. Direct defenses, such as trypsin protein inhibitors in rice and benzoxazinoids in maize, have anti-digestive or toxic effects on insect herbivores. Herbivory-induced plant volatiles, such as terpenes, are indirect defenses, which attract the natural enemies of herbivores. R gene-mediated defenses against herbivores are also discussed. | Jinfeng Qi Saif ul Malook Guojing Shen Lei Gao Cuiping Zhang Jing Li Jingxiong Zhang Lei Wang Jianqiang Wu | 2018 | Plant Diversity2018,40,4: | 3
Contrasting dynamic characteristics of shear turbulence and Langmuir circulation in the surface mixed layer显示文摘Large eddy simulation(LES) is used to investigate contrasting dynamic characteristics of shear turbulence(ST)and Langmuir circulation(LC) in the surface mixed layer(SML). ST is usually induced by wind forcing in SML. LC can be driven by wave-current interaction that includes the roles of wind, wave and vortex forcing. The LES results show that LC suppresses the horizontal velocity and greatly modifies the downwind velocity profile, but increases the vertical velocity. The strong downwelling jets of LC accelerate and increase the downward transport of energy as compared to ST. The vertical eddy viscosity Km of LC is much larger than that of ST. Strong mixing induced by LC has two locations. They are located in the 2ds–3ds(Stokes depth scale) and the lower layer of the SML,respectively. Its value and position change periodically with time. In contrast, maximum Km induced by ST is located in the middle depth of the SML. The turbulent kinetic energy(TKE) generated by LC is larger than that by ST. The differences in vertical distributions of TKE and Km are evident. Therefore, the parameterization of LC cannot be solely based on TKE. For deep SML, the convection of large-scale eddies in LC plays a main role in downward transport of energy and LC can induce stronger velocity shear(S2) near the SML base. In addition, the large-scale eddies and S2 induced by LC is changing all the time, which needs to be fully considered in the parameterization of LC. | LI Guojing WANG Dongxiao CHEN Ju YAO Jinglong ZENG Lili SHU Yeqiang SUI Dandan | 2015 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2015,34,5: | 2

Phosphorus-induced electronic structure reformation of hollow NiCo_(2)Se_(4) nanoneedle arrays enabling highly efficient and durable hydrogen evolution in all-pH media显示文摘With practical electrocatalytic hydrogen production frequently involving the splitting of water in various pH media, there is an urgent need but still a technical challenge to develop low-cost,highly active, and stable electrocatalysts for pH-universal hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).We report herein the adoption of a hydrothermal reaction combined with a post gas-phase doping strategy to fabricate P-doped NiCo_(2)Se_(4) hollow nanoneedle arrays on carbon fiber paper(i.e.,P-NiCo_(2)Se_(4)/CFP).Notably,the optimal arrays(P8.71-NiCo_(2)Se_(4)/CFP)can afford an outstanding pH-universal HER performance, with an overpotential as low as 33,57,and 69 mV at 10 mA·cm^(−2) and corresponding Tafel slopes down to 52,61,and 72 mV·dec^(−1) in acidic, alkaline, and neutral media, respectively, outperforming most state-of-the-art nonprecious catalysts and even the commercial Pt/C catalyst in both neutral and alkaline media at large current densities.Impressively,P_(8.71-)NiCo_(2)Se_(4)/CFP also displays good durability toward long-time stability testing in harsh acidic and alkaline electrolytes.Experimental and theoretical studies further reveal that the doping of P atoms into NiCo_(2)Se_(4) can simultaneously optimize its H*adsorption/desorption energy, water adsorption energy, and water dissociation energy by adjusting the local electronic states of various active sites, thus accelerating the rate-determining step of HER in different pH media to endow P-NiCo_(2)Se_(4) with an outstanding pH-universal HER performance. This work provides atomic-level insights into the roles of active sites in various electrolysis environments, thereby shedding new light on the rational design of highly efficient pH-universal nonprecious catalysts for HER and beyond. | Guojing Wang Yuzhuo Sun Yidan Zhao Yang Zhang Xiaohong Li Louzhen Fan Yunchao Li | 2022 | Nano Research2022,15,10: | 1
