2An essential role for TAK1 in the contact hypersensitivity response显示文摘Contact hypersensitivity(CHS)is a delayed-type hypersensitivity that can be induced by haptens,such as 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene(DNFB).Innate and adaptive immunities are both important for the development of CHS.To treat CHS-related diseases,such as allergic contact dermatitis,a disease prevalent in industrialized countries,ways of interfering with improper immune function during CHS responses need to be identified.Transforming growth factor-b-activated kinase-1(TAK1),a member of mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase family,is important for both innate and adaptive immunities.We thus hypothesized that the CHS response could be inhibited by interfering with TAK1 activity.Using a mouse model in which TAK1 deletion can be locally induced,we observed that TAK deficiency led to an impaired CHS response and was associated with defective T-cell expansion,activation and interferon(IFN)-c production.In addition,we investigated the effect of deleting TAK1 specifically in dendritic cells(DC)on the CHS response.We found that when TAK1 is deficient in DC,the CHS response was abolished and hapten-elicited T-cell responses were defective.Collectively,this study demonstrates an essential role of TAK1 in the induction of CHS and suggests that targeting TAK1 could be a viable approach to treat CHS.Yan G Zhao Yunqi Wang Weidong Hao Yisong Y Wan 2011Cellular & Molecular Immunology2011,8,4:4
3Emergence,Mating and Oviposition Behavior of the Chinese Population in Pink Bollworm,Pectinophora gossypiella (Lepidoptera:Gelechiidae)显示文摘The pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is one of the most serious lepidopteran pests of cotton in the world. This pest invaded China at the onset of the 20th century, possibly through repeated introductions from several different locations worldwide. In this paper, we describe different behavioral parameters of this Hubei P. gossypiella strain under laboratory and field conditions. Using an infra-red video recorder, we observed (nocturnal) emergence, flight and mating activities, and oviposition patterns. Moth emergence started from 13:00 and continued up till 23:00. Under laboratory and field conditions, 2-7-d-old moths initiated flight around sunset, peaked 50 min later and gradually declined until 04:00. Although mating started immediately after darkness (i.e., 20:00), mating behavior was most intense from 23:00 to 03:40. Oviposition also showed distinct time-related patterns, with approx. 70% eggs laid between 20:00 and 22:00. In the studies of the relationship between flight and oviposition, the duration of flight had an effect on oviposition. The 1-d-old moths flown for 6 and 12 h began oviposition earlier than the unflown ones, and the 6-h flight had no effect on the egg production. However, the longevity of the flown moths was shortened after flight. In addition, the peaks of oviposition for the flown moths were advanced 2-3 d. The age when the moths flied affected the oviposition of adult moths. The earlier the moths started to fly after emergence, the greater the fecundity they had. The average egg production of moths flown for 24 h was less than that of non-flown moths which were of the same age. Both flight and delay in mating could advance the oviposition peak. 8Efficacy of Qigong for the treatment of alopecia universalis: a clinical case report显示文摘Qigong is a part of traditional Chinese medicine. According to the antique treaties, the foundations of traditional Chinese medicine are based in maintaining the harmony between Qi (energy), Jing (essence) and Shen (spirit). Alterations in this harmony can develop and determine the appearance of disease. Therapeutic effects of Qigong are helpful in the prevention and treatment of several diseases. It's main role in restoring body functions is due to the communication between internal organs, tissues and cells. The main goal of this work is to show the efficacy of Qigong in the treatment of a dermatological disease characterized by the appearance of circular or oval patches of missing hair, known as alopecia universalis. For western medicine the exact cause of this illness is not totally revealed, however, it's attributed to psycological, genetics and metabolic alterations. From the traditional Chinese medicine perspective, hair alterations are framed in the area of the water energy, represented by the kidney organ. The results of Qigong treatment suggested that the cranial hair follicles had been activated since the first treatment. As treatment progressed, the cranial hair follicles continued to grow, what's more, the brightness and pigmentation of the hair also increased. Therefore, in the clinical conditions evaluated, Qigong could be an effective alternative treatment in consideration of the visible evidence about rapid and long lasting results.
