1Orofacial inflammatory pain affects the expression of MT1 and NADPH-d in rat caudal spinal trigeminal nucleus and trigeminal ganglion显示文摘Very little is known about the role of melatonin in the trigeminal system,including the function of melatonin receptor 1.In the present study,adult rats were injected with formaldehyde into the right vibrissae pad to establish a model of orofacial inflammatory pain.The distribution of melatonin receptor 1 and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate diaphorase in the caudal spinal trigeminal nucleus and trigeminal ganglion was determined with immunohistochemistry and histochemistry.The results show that there are significant differences in melatonin receptor 1 expression and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate diaphorase expression in the trigeminal ganglia and caudal spinal nucleus during the early stage of orofacial inflammatory pain.Our findings suggest that when melatonin receptor 1 expression in the caudal spinal nucleus is significantly reduced,melatonin's regulatory effect on pain is attenuated.Fang Huang Hongwen He Wenguo Fan Yongliang Liu Hongyu Zhou Bin Cheng 2013Neural Regeneration Research2013,8,32:4
2High-performance fiber-integrated multifunctional graphene-optoelectronic device with photoelectric detection and optic-phase modulation显示文摘In graphene-based optoelectronic devices,the ultraweak interaction between a light and monolayer graphene leads to low optical absorption and low responsivity for the photodetectors and relative high half-wave voltage for the phase modulator.Here,an integration of the monolayer graphene onto the side-polished optical fiber is demonstrated,which is capable of providing a cost-effective strategy to enhance the light–graphene interaction,allowing us to obtain a highly efficient optical absorption in graphene and achieve multifunctions:photodetection and optical phase modulation.As a photodetector,the device has ultrahigh responsivity(1.5×10^(7) A/W)and high external quantum efficiency(>1.2×10^(9)%).Additionally,the polybutadiene/polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)film on the graphene can render the device an optical phase modulator through the large thermo-optic effect of the PMMA.As a phase modulator,the device has a relatively low half-wave voltage of 3 V with a 16 dB extinction ratio in Mach–Zehnder interferometer configuration.LINQING ZHUO PENGPENG FAN SHUANG ZHANG YUANSONG ZHAN YANMEI LINYU ZHANG DONGQUAN LI ZHEN CHE WENGUO ZHU HUADAN ZHENG JIEYUAN TANG JUN ZHANG YONGCHUN ZHONG WENXIAO FANG GUOGUANG LU JIANHUI YU ZHE CHEN 2020Photonics Research2020,8,12:3
3Age-dependent loss of cholinergic neurons in learning and memory-related brain regions and impaired learning in SAMP8 mice with trigeminal nerve damage显示文摘The tooth belongs to the trigeminal sensory pathway.Dental damage has been associated with impairments in the central nervous system that may be mediated by injury to the trigeminal nerve.In the present study,we investigated the effects of damage to the inferior alveolar nerve,an important peripheral nerve in the trigeminal sensory pathway,on learning and memory behaviors and structural changes in related brain regions,in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease.Inferior alveolar nerve transection or sham surgery was performed in middle-aged(4-monthold) or elderly(7-month-old) senescence-accelerated mouse prone 8(SAMP8) mice.When the middle-aged mice reached 8 months(middle-aged group 1) or 11 months(middle-aged group 2),and the elderly group reached 11 months,step-down passive avoidance and Y-maze tests of learning and memory were performed,and the cholinergic system was examined in the hippocampus(Nissl staining and acetylcholinesterase histochemistry) and basal forebrain(choline acetyltransferase immunohistochemistry).In the elderly group,animals that underwent nerve transection had fewer pyramidal neurons in the hippocampal CA1 and CA3 regions,fewer cholinergic fibers in the CA1 and dentate gyrus,and fewer cholinergic neurons in the medial septal nucleus and vertical limb of the diagonal band,compared with sham-operated animals,as well as showing impairments in learning and memory.Conversely,no significant differences in histology or behavior were observed between middle-aged group 1 or group 2 transected mice and age-matched sham-operated mice.The present findings suggest that trigeminal nerve damage in old age,but not middle age,can induce degeneration of the septal-hippocampal cholinergic system and loss of hippocampal pyramidal neurons,and ultimately impair learning ability.Our results highlight the importance of active treatment of trigeminal nerve damage in elderly patients and those with Alzheimer's disease,and indicate that tooth extraction should be avoided in these populations.Yifan He Jihong Zhu Fang Huang Liu Qin Wenguo Fan Hongwen He 2014Neural Regeneration Research2014,9,22:2
4Process operation performance of PDMS membrane pervaporation coupled with fermentation for efficient bioethanol production显示文摘There would be strong product inhibition on ethanol fermentation process if ethanol is not removed in situ from broth. PDMS membrane pervaporation coupled with fermentation is a promising process for efficient bioethanol production since ethanol inhibition is relieved or eliminated. From the perspective of process operation, membrane separation performance, ethanol fermentation performance and the subsequent processing on membrane downstream are the three key issues. This review aims at contributing a comprehensive overview on the operation performance of the integrated process. The state-of-the-art of the three key issues related to the operation performance is focused. 5A cellular automaton evacuation model based on mobile robot's behaviors显示文摘The research of evacuation in some emergencies, e.g. fire, is of great benefit to reducing the injuries of persons. In this paper, a cellular automaton evacuation model based on mobile robot's behaviors is presented. Each person is treated as an intelligent mobile robot, and motor schemas, including move-to-goal, avoid-obstacle, swirl-obstacle and nervous-motion, drive persons to interact with their environment. The motor schemas are combined with cellular automaton theory, and an evacuation model is built. 6Distance-controllable and direction-steerable opto-conveyor for targeting delivery显示文摘Opto-conveyors have attracted widespread interest in various fields because of their non-invasive and non-contact delivery of micro/nanoparticles.However,the flexible control of the delivery distance and the dynamic steering of the delivery direction,although very desirable in all-optical manipulation,have not yet been achieved by optoconveyors.Here,using a simple and cost-effective scheme of an elliptically focused laser beam obliquely irradiated on a substrate,a direction-steerable and distance-controllable opto-conveyor for the targeting delivery of microparticles is implemented.Theoretically,in the proposed scheme of the opto-conveyor,the transverse and longitudinal resultant forces of the optical gradient force and the optical scattering force result in the transverse confinement and the longitudinal transportation of microparticles,respectively.In this study,it is experimentally shown that the proposed opto-conveyor is capable of realizing the targeting delivery for microparticles.Additionally,the delivery distance of microparticles can be flexibly and precisely controlled by simply adjusting the irradiation time.By simply rotating the cylindrical lens,the proposed opto-conveyor is capable of steering the delivery direction flexibly within a large range of azimuthal angles,from-75°to 75°.This study also successfully demonstrated the real-time dynamic steering of the delivery direction from-45°to 45°with the dynamical rotation of the cylindrical lens.Owing to its simplicity,flexibility,and controllability,the proposed method is capable of creating new opportunities in bioassays as well as in drug delivery.Zhen Che Wenguo Zhu Yaoming Huang Yu Zhang Linqing Zhuo Pengpeng Fan Zhibin Li Huadan Zheng Wenjin Long Wentao Qiu Yunhan Luo Jun Zhang Jinghua Ge Jianhui Yu Zhe Chen 2020Photonics Research2020,8,7:1
7Effects of livestock and poultry breeding pollution on health risks:Evidence from a hog breeding case in rural China显示文摘With the rapid development of livestock and poultry breeding industries,pollution problems caused by the discharge of wastewater and manure have become increasingly severe.However,studies on the impacts of this pollution on rural residents'health are lacking.Based on data from the Peking University's China Family Panel Studies in 2010 and 2014,this paper uses a cross-sectional and panel data probit model to estimate the probability of breeding industry development in rural areas increasing the health risks of local villagers.First,the study found that the more households engaged in breeding in the region or the larger the scale of regional breeding,the higher the health risks to local villagers,particularly in areas where pigs are raised.Second,compared with individual farming,the greater the proportion of large-scale farming,the higher the health risks to villagers.Third,the development of the breeding industry seldom includes the ecological recycling of wastes and fails to reduce the use of local pesticides and fertilizers,thereby increasing the health risks to villagers.Therefore,this paper argues that providing technology to process breeding industry waste and establish an organic industrial production chain will be crucial to reducing the impact of breeding industry pollution on human health.Dan Fan Yanxin Mao Lihe Xu Wenguo Wang 2020Chinese Journal of Population,Resources and Environment2020,18,4:0
8Simultaneous recovery of phosphorus and nitrogen from liquid digestate by vacuum membrane distillation with permeate fractional condensation显示文摘A vacuum membrane distillation(VMD)process with permeate fractional condensation on membrane downstream has been developed for simultaneous recovery of phosphorus and nitrogen from liquid digestate.The polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)membrane flux could reach 6000 g·m-2·h-1 with the rejection efficiency of total phosphorus(TP)over 0.99,under the condition of flowrate being 120 L·h-1 and temperature being 40°C.Membrane fouling occurred with a film of organics and microorganism deposited on the surface of the membrane.Membrane flux could be reversed after the membrane was rinsed by water.Higher feed temperature and flowrate could improve the membrane flux,while hardly affect the rejection efficiency of total phosphorus.The concentration of TP could reach 1600 mg·L-1 after membrane distillation,which is about 5 times of that in initial liquid digestate.On the downstream of the membrane,some of the permeate vapor was condensed under the vacuum condition and most of water was collected here.The remaining vapor enriched with total nitrogen(TN)was compressed and pumped to the atmospheric condition to condense.The TN concentration in atmospheric condensate was as high as 7000 mg·L-1 with the process separation factor for ammonia being enhanced to 114.Boya Qiu Senqing Fan Xiaoyu Tang Bufan Qi Liangwei Deng Wenguo Wang Jingyun Liu Yuyang Wang Zeyi Xiao 2020Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2020,28,6:0
