Essential oil and aromatic plants as feed additives in non-ruminant nutrition:a review显示文摘This paper summarizes the current knowledge regarding the possible modes of action and nutritional factors involved in the use of essential oils(EOs) for swine and poultry.EOs have recently attracted increased interest as feed additives to be fed to swine and poultry, possibly replacing the use of antibiotic growth promoters which have been prohibited in the European Union since 2006.In general,EOs enhance the production of digestive secretions and nutrient absorption, reduce pathogenic stress in the gut, exert antioxidant properties and reinforce the animal's immune status, which help to explain the enhanced performance observed in swine and poultry. However, the mechanisms involved in causing this growth promotion are far from being elucidated, since data on the complex gut ecosystem, gut function,in vivo oxidative status and immune system are still lacking. In addition, limited information is available regarding the interaction between EOs and feed ingredients or other feed additives(especially pro- or prebiotics and organic acids). This knowledge may help feed formulators to better utilize EOs when they formulate diets for poultry and swine.Zhikai Zeng Sai Zhang Hongliang Wang Xiangshu Piao 2016Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2016,7,1:19
The interaction among gut microbes, the intestinal barrier and short chain fatty acids显示文摘The mammalian gut is inhabited by a massive and complicated microbial community, in which the hostachieves a stable symbiotic environment through the interdependence, coordination, reciprocal constraintsand participation in an immune response. The interaction between the host gut and themicrobiota is essential for maintaining and achieving the homeostasis of the organism. Consequently, guthomeostasis is pivotal in safeguarding the growth and development and potential productive performanceof the host. As metabolites of microorganisms, short chain fatty acids are not only the preferredenergy metabolic feedstock for host intestinal epithelial cells, but also exert vital effects on antioxidantsand the regulation of intestinal community homeostasis. Herein, we summarize the effects of intestinalmicroorganisms on the host gut and the mechanisms of action of short chain fatty acids on the fourintestinal barriers of the organism, which will shed light on the manipulation of the intestinal communityto achieve precise nutrition for specific individuals and provide a novel perspective for theprevention and treatment of diseases.Jiayu Ma Xiangshu Piao Shad Mahfuz Shenfei Long Jian Wang 2022Animal Nutrition2022,,2:15

Determination of the available energy values and amino acid digestibility of Flammulina velutipes stem waste and its effects on carcass trait and meat quality fed to growing-finishing pigs显示文摘Background:Flammulina velutipes stem waste(FVS)is the by-product of mushroom industry. The objectives of this study were to determine the available energy and amino acid digestibility of FVS fed to pigs, and to evaluate the effects of dietary FVS inclusion on growth performance, biochemical profile of serum, fecal short chain fatty acid(SCFA)concentration, carcass traits, meat quality, intestinal morphology and microflora of pigs.In Exp.1,twelve crossbred barrows with initial body weight(IBW)of 37.48±4.31 kg were randomly allotted to 2 dietary treatments, including a corn basal diet and an experimental diet containing 24.35%FVS.In Exp.2,twelve barrows fitted with an ileal T-cannula(IBW:32.56±1.67 kg)were randomly allotted to 2 dietary treatments, which included a N-free diet and an experimental diet containing 40.0%FVS.In Exp.3,ninety growing pigs(IBW:63.98±6.89 kg)were allotted to 1 of 3 treatment diets for 63 d,including a basal diet and 2 experimental diets with 2.5%and 5%FVS,respectively.Results:The digestible energy(DE)and metabolizable energy(ME)of FVS were 4.58 and 4.06 MJ/kg on dry matter basis, respectively, and the standardized ileal digestibility(SID)of indispensable AAs ranged from 17.50%to 59.47%.Pigs fed diets with 2.5%FVS showed no difference on average daily gain(ADG)and gain to feed ratio(G/F).Although dietary 5%FVS inclusion impaired apparent total tract digestibility(ATTD)of organic matter and gross energy,it elevated the SCFA concentration(P≤0.04)in gut and antioxidant capacity in serum. In addition, dietary FVS inclusion depressed the backfat thickness(P=0.03)in pigs. The longissimus dorsi muscle of pigs fed FVS revealed higher n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid concentration and optimized fatty acid composition.Dietary 2.5%FVS inclusion also improved the intestinal development and health by increasing the villius height to crypt depth ratio(V/C)in jejunum(P<0.01),and promoting microbial diversity and beneficial microbiota proliferation. Conclusions:It is feasible to include moderate content of FVS as an unconventional fiber ingredient in diet of growingfinishing pigs.Xuzhou Liu Bo Zhang Hansuo Liu Gang Zhang Jinbiao Zhao Ling Liu Xiangshu Piao Hui Song Shuai Zhang Yu Li 2020Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2020,11,3:6
Determination of the available energy, standardized ileal digestibility of amino acids of fermented corn germ meal replacing soybean meal in growing pig diets显示文摘Three experiments were conducted to compare the digestible(DE),metabolizable energy(ME),and standardized ileal digestibility(SID)of amino acids(AA)in fermented corn germ meal(FCGM)and soybean meal(SBM),and evaluate the effects of FCGM replacing SBM in growing pig diets. In Exp.1,18 barrows with initial body weight(BW)of 60.2±3.40 kg were randomly allotted to 3 treatments with 6 replicates per treatment. The control diet used corn as the only energy ingredient, and 2 test diets were made by replacing 25.8%of corn with FCGM or SBM.The DE and ME of FCGM were less(P<0.01)than those of SBM.In Exp.2,18 barrows(59.3±2.52 kg BW)with ileal T-cannulas were randomly allotted to 3 treatments with 6 replicates per treatment. The SID of arginine, tryptophan and proline were greater(P<0.05)and the tyrosine was less(P=0.01)in SBM compared with FCGM.In Exp.3,144 growing pigs(56.1±5.22 kg BW)were randomly allotted to 4 treatments with 6 pens per treatment(3 barrows and 3 gilts per pen).Four diets(FCGM0,FCGM10,FCGM20 and FCGM30)were formulated using FCGM to replace 0%,10%,20%and 30%of SBM,respectively. The ME and SID values of AA of SBM and FCGM were determined by Exp.1 and 2.Results showed that increasing FCGM inclusion quadratically(P<0.05)increased the average daily gain(ADG),average daily feed intake, and the levels of serum immunoglobulin G(IgG)and urea nitrogen, and linearly(P<0.05)increased the serum IgM,the propanoic acid, butyric acid, total volatile fatty acid(VFA)and the Shannon index of microbiota in feces.Besides, the relative abundance of genus Streptococcus in FCGM0,Lactobacillus in FCGM10 and Lachnospiraceae in FCGM30 were increased(P<0.05)compared with other treatments. In conclusion,we recommend replacing 11.80%of SBM with FCGM to obtain the optimal ADG of growing pigs. Moreover,as the ratio of FCGM replacing SBM increased in diet, the immunity, intestinal microbiota and total VFA composition of growing pigs were improved.Tengfei He Yuhui Zheng Xiangshu Piao Shenfei Long 2022Animal Nutrition2022,,2:6
Microencapsulated essential oils combined with organic acids improves immune antioxidant capacity and intestinal barrier function as well as modulates the hindgut microbial community in piglets显示文摘Background:The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effect of a combination of microencapsulated essential oils and organic acids(MOA)on growth performance,immuno-antioxidant status, intestinal barrier function and microbial structure of the hindgut in piglets.A total of 120 piglets(Duroc×[Landrace×Yorkshire];weighted 7.66±1.79 kg,weaned at d 28)were randomly selected and allocated to 3 treatments with 4 replicates per group and 10 piglets per replicate according to the initial body weight and gender. The dietary treatments were as follows:1)basal diet(Ctrl);2)Ctrl+chlortetracycline(75 mg/kg)(AGP);3)Ctrl+MOA(1500 mg/kg).The experiment period was lasted for 21 d.Results:Compared to the Ctrl group, dietary supplemented MOA alleviated(P<0.05)the diarrhea rate from d 12 to 21,enhanced(P<0.05)the concentration of serum interlukin-10 and glutathione peroxidase in piglets on d 11 after weaning and serum superoxide dismutase in 21-day piglets. The MOA group also improved(P<0.05)the apparent digestibility of dry matter(DM),organic matter(OM)and gross energy(GE),up-regulated(P<0.05)the mRNA expression level of occludin,claudin-1 and mucin-2 in ileum and increased(P<0.05)the contents of propionic and butyric acids in the cecum of piglets. The MOA group modulated the cecal and colonic microbial community structure and increased(P<0.05)the abundance of Faecalibacterium and Muribaculaceae in cecum and Streptococcus and Weissella in colon.Additionally,AGP group decreased(P<0.05)apparent digestibility of DM,OM and GE as well as down-regulated(P<0.05)relative gene expression level of claudin-1 in duodenum and jejunum,ZO-1 and mucin-1 in jejunum of piglets. Conclusion:In summary, dietary supplemented MOA alleviated diarrhea and improved nutrient apparent digestibility in piglets via enhancing immuno-antioxidant properties, increasing digestive enzyme activity, upregulating the expression of intestinal barrier-related genes, and modifying the microbial community structure of the cecum and colon. Therefore, dietary supplementation with MOA as an alternative to antibiotics was feasible to improve intestinal health of piglets in practical production.Jiayu Ma Shenfei Long Jian Wang Jie Gao Xiangshu Piao 2022Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2022,13,4:5
Molecular and serological surveillance of Getah virus in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region,China,2017–2020显示文摘The Getah virus(GETV),a mosquito-borne RNA virus,is widely distributed in Oceania and Asia.GETV is not the only pathogenic to horses, pigs, cattle, foxes and boars, but it can also cause fever in humans.Since its first reported case in Chinese mainland in 2017,the number of GETV-affected provinces has increased to seventeen till now. Therefore,we performed an epidemiologic investigation of GETV in the Xinjiang region, located in northwestern China, during the period of 2017-2020.ELISA was used to analyze 3299 serum samples collected from thoroughbred horse, local horse, sheep, goat, cattle, and pigs, with thoroughbred horse(74.8%),local horse(67.3%),goat(11.7%),sheep(10.0%),cattle(25.1%)and pigs(51.1%)being positive for anti-GETV antibodies.Interestingly, the neutralizing antibody titer in horses was much higher than in other species.Four samples from horses and pigs were positive for GETV according to RT-PCR.Furthermore,from the serum of a local horse,we isolated GETV which was designated as strain XJ-2019-07,and determined its complete genome sequence. From the phylogenetic relationships,it belongs to the Group III lineage. This is the first evidence of GETV associated to domestic animals in Xinjiang.Overall,GETV is prevalent in Xinjiang and probably has been for several years.Since no vaccine against GETV is available in China, detection and monitoring strategies should be improved in horses and pigs, especially imported and farmed,in order to prevent economic losses.Ning Shi Xiangshu Qiu Xinyu Cao Zhanhai Mai Xiangyu Zhu Nan Li He Zhang Jinyong Zhang Zhuoxin Li Nuerlan Shaya Huijun Lu Ningyi Jin 2022Virologica Sinica2022,37,2:5
Effect of variety and drying method on the nutritive value of corn for growing pigs显示文摘Background:This experiment was conducted to determine the nutritive value of corn from the north of China for growing pigs. The experiment examined corn variety(LS1,LS2,LS3 and LS4)grown in one location, drying method(sun dried and artificially dried)and different drying temperatures.Corn harvested at 20-25%moisture was dried to about 12%moisture by sun drying and artificially drying at 80,100,or 120℃ in a fluidized bed dryer.Ninety-six barrows(average BW of 33.4 ± 2.7 kg)were housed in individual metabolism crates to facilitate separate collection of feces and urine.A five-day collection period followed a seven-day diet acclimation period. Results:The results indicated that variety significantly influenced(P<0.01)the 1,000 kernel weight of corn but not the bulk weight.Variety also influenced the available energy content(digestible energy of dry matter,P<0.01;metabolisable energy of dry matter,P<0.01)and digestibility of organic matter(P<0.01),as well as dry matter(P<0.01)and gross energy(GE)content(P<0.02).The drying method of corn significantly influenced the 1,000 kernel weight(P<0.01),bulk weight(P<0.01)and digestibility of ether extract(EE)(P<0.01).No effect of drying temperature on the digestibility of organic matter, dry matter(DM),crude protein(CP),neutral detergent fiber(NDF),acid detergent fiber(ADF)and gross energy was observed, but gelatinization(P<0.05)and test weight(P<0.01)decreased with an increase in temperature. Conclusions:Variety has a significant impact on the nutritive value of corn for growing pigs, and greater attention needs to be paid to these influences in the assignment of the nutritive value of corn given to growing pigs.Quanfeng Li Meng Shi Chuanxin Shi Dewen Liu Xiangshu Piao Defa Li Changhua Lai 2014Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2014,5,4:5

Impact of sugar beet pulp and wheat bran on serum biochemical profile, inflammatory responses and gut microbiota in sows during late gestation and lactation显示文摘Background:Sows are frequently subjected to various stresses during late gestation and lactation, which trigger inflammatory response and metabolic disorders.Dietary fiber can influence animal health by modulating gut microbiota and their by-products,with the effects depending upon the source of the dietary fiber. This study aimed to evaluate the impacts of different fiber sources on body condition, serum biochemical parameters, inflammatory responses and fecal microbiota in sows from late gestation to lactation.Methods:Forty-five multiparous sows(Yorkshire×Landrace;3–6 parity)were assigned to 1 of 3 dietary treatments from d 85 of gestation to the end of lactation(d 21 post-farrowing):a control diet(CON,a corn-soybean meal diet),a sugar beet pulp diet(SBP,20%SBP during gestation and 10%SBP during lactation),and a wheat bran diet(WB,30%WB during gestation and 15%WB during lactation). Results:Compared with CON,supplementation of SBP decreased(P<0.05)lactation BW loss,reduced(P<0.05)serum concentration of total cholesterol,non-esterified fatty acids,interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α,and increased(P<0.05)fecal water content on d 110 of gestation and d 21 of lactation, while supplementation of WB reduced(P<0.05)serum concentration of total cholesterol on d 110 of gestation,increased(P<0.05)fecal water content and decreased(P<0.05)serum interleukin-6 concentration on d 110 of gestation and d 21 of lactation. In addition, sows fed SBP had lower(P<0.01)abundance of Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1 and Terrisporobacter than those fed CON,but had greater(P<0.05)abundance of Christensenellaceae_R-7_group and Ruminococcaceae_UCG-002 than those fed the other two diets on d 110 of gestation. On d 21 of lactation, supplementation of SBP decreased(P<0.05)the abundance of Firmicutes and Lactobacillus, but enriched(P<0.05)the abundance of Christensenellaceae_R-7_group,Prevotellaceae_NK3B31_group,Ruminococcaceae_UCG-002,Prevotellaceae_UCG_001 and unclassified_f__Lachnospiraceae compared with WB.Compared with CON,sows fed SBP had greater(P<0.05)fecal concentrations of acetate, butyrate and total SCFAs during gestation and lactation, while sows fed WB only had greater(P<0.05)fecal concentration of butyrate during lactation. Conclusions:Supplementation of dietary fiber during late gestation and lactation could improve sow metabolism and gut health, and SBP was more effective than WB.Qinghui Shang Sujie Liu Hansuo Liu Shad Mahfuz Xiangshu Piao 2021Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2021,12,4:4
The effect of the ratio of standardized ileal digestible lysine to metabolizable energy on growth performance, blood metabolites and hormones of lactating sows显示文摘A total of 335 lactating sows (Landrace × Large White) were used in two experiments to determine the optimum ratio of standardized ileal digestible lysine (SID-Lys) to metabolizable energy (ME) for mixed parity sows during lactation. In Exp. 1, 185 sows (weighing an average of 256.2 ± 6.5 kg and having an average parity of 3.4 ± 0.3) were allocated to one of six experimental diets in a completely randomized block design within parity groups (1, 2, and 3+). The experimental diets were formulated to contain 3.06, 3.16, 3.20, 3.25, 3.30 or 3.40 Mcal/kg of ME and each diet was fed to the sows throughout a 28 day lactation. All diets provided a similar SID-lysine level (0.86%). As a result, the diets provided a SID-Lys:ME ratio of 2.81, 2.72, 2.69, 2.65, 2.61 or 2.53 g/Mcal ME. Sow feed intake was significantly (P < 0.01) affected by the energy content of the diet as well as by sow parity. Using regression analysis, feed intake was shown to be maximized at 3.25, 3.21, 3.21 and 3.21 Mcal/kg of ME for parity 1, 2, 3+ sows and the entire cohort of sows respectively (quadratic; P < 0.01). In addition, the result of feed intake can be expressed as 2.65, 2.69, 2.69 and 2.68 g/Mcal based on analysis of SID-Lys:ME ratio. Litter weight gain was affected by dietary treatment for parity 3+ sows and the entire cohort (P < 0.01). Based on regression analysis, litter weight gain was maximized at 3.25 and 3.24 Mcal/kg of ME for parity 3+ (quadratic; P < 0.01) and the entire cohort (quadratic; P < 0.01). Similarly, the result of litter weight gain could be expressed as 2.65 and 2.66 g/Mcal of SID- Lys:ME ratio. Therefore, 3.25 Mcal/kg of ME was selected for Exp. 2 in which 150 sows (weighing 254.6 ± 7.3 kg and having an average parity of 3.4 ± 0.4) were allocated to one of five treatments in a completely randomized block design within parity (1, 2, and 3+). The experimental diets were formulated to contain 2.1, 2.4, 2.7, 3.0 or 3.3 g/Mcal of SID-Lys:ME ratio with all diets providing 3.25 Mcal/kg of ME. The diets were fed to the sows throughout a 28 day lactation. Sow body weight loss was affected by dietary treatment (parity 3+ sows, P = 0.02; entire cohort, P < 0.01) and by sow parity (P < 0.01). Litter weight at weaning and litter weight gain were affected by dietary treatment for parity 1, 2, 3+ sows and the entire cohort (P < 0.01) as well as by sow parity (P < 0.01). Plasma urea nitrogen (P < 0.01), creatinine (P < 0.01) and non-esterifide fatty acids (P = 0.04) were decreased as the SID-Lys:ME ratio of the diet increased. Insulin-like growth factor-1 (P = 0.02), estradiol (P < 0.01) and luteinizing hormone (P = 0.02) were increased as the SID-Lys:ME ratio in diet increased. Based on a broken-line model, the estimated SID-Lys: ME ratio to maximize litter weight gain was estimated to be 3.05 g/Mcal.Lingfeng Xue Xiangshu Piao Defa Li Pengfei Li Rongfei Zhang Sung Woo Kim Bing Dong 2012Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2012,3,3:3
Effects of the standardized ileal digestible lysine to metabolizable energy ratio on performance and carcass characteristics of growing-finishing pigs显示文摘A total of 2,121 growing-finishing pigs (Duroc × Landrace × Large White) were utilized in six experiments conducted to determine the effects of different ratios of standardized ileal digestible lysine (SID-Lys) to metabolizable energy (ME) on the performance and carcass characteristics of growing-finishing pigs. Exps. 1 (30 to 50 kg), 2 (52 to 70 kg) and 3 (81 to 104 kg) were conducted to find an optimum ME level and then this level was used in Exps. 4 (29 to 47 kg), 5 (54 to 76 kg) and 6 (84 to 109 kg) to test the response of pigs to different ratios of SID-Lys:ME. In Exps.1 to 3, four treatments were used consisting of diets with a formulated ME content of 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 or 3.4 in Exps. 1 and 2 while Exp. 3 used 3.05, 3.15, 3.25 or 3.35 Mcal/kg. A constant SID-Lys:ME ratio of 2.6, 2.3 or 2.0 g/Mcal was used in Exps. 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Weight gain was significantly increased with increasing energy level in Exp.1 while weight gain was unaltered in Exps. 2 and 3. For all three experiments, feed intake was decreased (P < 0.05) and feed efficiency was improved (P < 0.05) with increasing energy level. Tenth rib back fat thickness linearly increased (P < 0.05) with increasing energy level. In Exps. 4 to 6, five treatments were used consisting of diets with a SID-Lys:ME ratio of 2.4, 2.6, 2.8, 3.0 or 3.2 in Exp. 1, 2.1, 2.3, 2.5, 2.7, 2.9 or 3.2 in Exp. 2 and 1.8, 2.0, 2.2, 2.4, or 2.6 in Exp. 3. A constant ME level 3.2, 3.2 and 3.05 Mcal/kg was used in Exps. 1, 2 and 3, respectively (selected based on the results of weight gain). For all three experiments, weight gain increased (P < 0.05) and feed efficiency improved linearly (P < 0.05) as the SID-Lys:ME ratio increased. Tenth rib back fat thickness linearly decreased (P < 0.05) as the SID-Lys:ME ratio increased. Based on a straight broken-line model, the estimated SID-Lys:ME ratio to maximize weight gain was 3.0, 2.43 and 2.2 for 29 to 47, 54 to76 and 84 to 109 kg of pigs, respectively.Pengfei Li Zhikai Zeng Ding Wang Lingfeng Xue Rongfei Zhang Xiangshu Piao 2012Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2012,3,1:3
Decreased Soil Nitrification Rate with Addition of Biochar to Acid Soils显示文摘This study was conducted to investigate the effects of mixed biochar on the nitrification rate in acidic soils. A15 N tracer experiment with(15 NH4)2 SO4 was conducted to determine the nitrification rates of 4 acidic agricultural soils with p H 4.03-6.02 in Yunnan Province, Southern China. The accumulation of15 N-NO3-and nitrification rates decreased with the addition of biochar at the end of incubation, suggesting that biochar could be a nitrification inhibitor in acidic fertilized soil. Nitrification rates in soil with p H 4.03 were evidently lower than those in soil with p H 4.81-6.02 with or without biochar. Decreased nitrification rates were detected in the acidic soils with biochar. Soil p H controlled nitrification more than biochar in certain strongly acidic soils.Shiyu LI Xiangshu DONG Dandan LIU Li LIU Feifei HE 2017Agricultural Science & Technology2017,18,10:2
Predicting corn digestible and metabolizable energy content from its chemical composition in growing pigs显示文摘Background:The nutrient composition of corn is variable. To prevent unforeseen reductions in growth performance, grading and analytical methods are used to minimize nutrient variability between calculated and analyzed values. This experiment was carried out to define the sources of variation in the energy content of com and to develop a practical method to accurately estimate the digestible energy(DE) and metabolisable energy(ME)content of individual com samples for growing pigs.Twenty samples were taken from each of five provinces in China(Jilin,Hebei,Shandong,Liaoning, and Henan) to obtain a range of quality. Results:The DE and ME contents of the 100 corn samples were measured in 35.3 ± 1.92 kg growing pigs(six pigs per corn sample).Sixty corn samples were used to build the prediction model;the remaining forty samples were used to test the suitability of these models. The chemical composition of each corn sample was determined, and the results were used to establish prediction equations for DE or ME content from chemical characteristics. The mean DE and ME content of the 100 samples were 4,053 and 3,923 kcal/kg(dry matter basis),respectively. The physical characteristics were determined,as well, and the results indicated that the bulk weight and 1,000-kernel weight were not associated with energy content. The DE and ME values could be accurately predicted from chemical characteristics. The best fit equations were as follows:DE,kcal/kg of DM = 1062.68 +(49.72 x EE) +(0.54 x GE) +(9.11 x starch),with R^2 = 0.62,residual standard deviation(RSD) = 48 kcal/kg,and P< 0.01;ME,kcal/kg of dry matter basis(DM) = 671.54 +(0.89 x DE)-(5.57 x NDF)-(191.39 x ash),with R2 = 0.87,RSD = 18 kcal/kg,and P<0,01.Conclusion:This experiment confirms the large variation in the energy content of corn, describes the factors that influence this variation, and presents equations based on chemical measurements that may be used to predict the DE and ME content of individual corn samples.Quanfeng Li Jianjun Zang Dewen Liu Xiangshu Piao Chanqhua Lai Defa Li 2014Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2014,5,3:2
Different copper sources and levels affect growth performance, copper content, carcass characteristics, intestinal microorganism and metabolism of finishing pigs显示文摘Copper(Cu)is an essential trace element in the production of swine. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of 3 different sources of Cu on growth performance,Cu metabolism, and intestinal microorganisms of finishing pigs,so as to estimate the bioavailability of the 3 sources for pigs.A total of 42 male finishing pigs(88.74±5.74 kg)were randomly allocated to 7 treatments. The factors were 3 sources(CuSO4,Cu-glycine,Cu-proteinate)and 2 levels(5 and 20 mg/kg)of Cu,plus one negative control treatment(0 mg/kg added Cu level)for the entire 28-d experiment. The average daily gain(ADG)and feed to gain ratio(F:G)both increased when Cu was added. The Cu level in liver, bile, kidney, serum, lung, urine and feces rose(P<0.001)with increasing dietary Cu level regardless of the source.Meanwhile, pigs receiving organic Cu(glycinate or proteinate)retained more Cu and excreted less Cu than those receiving inorganic Cu(CuSO4),which showed that organic forms were more bioavailable. At the transcriptional level, changes in the level and source of dietary Cu resulted in modulation of transporters. In the jejunal mucosa, import transporter high affinity copper uptake protein 1(CTR1)and export transporter ATPase copper transporting alpha(ATP7A)in supplemental Cu treatments were down-regulated compared to the control. Also, peptide transporter 1(PepT1)and lanine-serine-cysteine transporter,type-2(ASCT2)were significantly(P<0.01)up-regulated in 20 mg/kg Cu-proteinate and Cu-glycinate treatments, respectively.Microbial diversity was lowest in the 20 mg/kg CuSO4 treatment, and the ratio of Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes was higher in added Cu treatments, especially Cu-glycinate treatment. These results indicate that uptake of different Cu forms is facilitated by different transporters and transport mechanisms, and compared with inorganic Cu,organic Cu provides benefits to intestinal microflora and reduces Cu excretion.Yang Wen Runxian Li Xiangshu Piao Gang Lin Pingli He 2022Animal Nutrition2022,,1:2
Different dietary protein sources influence growth performance, antioxidant capacity, immunity, fecal microbiota and metabolites in weaned piglets显示文摘The inclusion of high-quality proteins are commonly used in swine production. Our research investigated the effects of hydrolyzed wheat protein(HWP),fermented soybean meal(FSBM),and enzyme-treated soybean meal(ESBM)on growth performance, antioxidant capacity, immunity, fecal microbiota and metabolites of weaned piglets.A total of 144 piglets(weaned at 28 d)were allotted to 3 dietary treatments with 6 replicate pens per treatment and 8 piglets per pen. This study included 2 periods:d 0 to14 for phase 1 and d 15 to 28 for phase 2.Dietary treatments contained 15.90%HWP,15.80%FSBM,and 15.10%ESBM in phase 1,and 7.90%HWP,7.80%FSBM,and 7.50%ESBM in phase 2,respectively.The ADG of piglets in ESBM was increased(P<0.05)compared with HWP and FSBM during d 1e28.Compared with HWP and FSBM,ESBM increased(P<0.05)the ferric reducing ability of plasma(FRAP),and the serum level of superoxide dismutase(SOD)in piglets on d 14,as well as increased(P<0.05)the serum FRAP level in piglets on d 28.ESBM decreased(P<0.05)serum levels of DAO and IL-1b in piglets compared with HWP on d 28.ESBM enhanced(P<0.05)the relative abundance of Bacteroidetes,Oscillospiraceae and Christensenellaceae,as well as reduced the relative abundance of Clostridiaceae in the feces compared with HWP and FSBM.The PICRUSt analysis revealed that the number of gene tags related to degradation of valine, leucine and isoleucine,as well as lysine degradation in ESBM were lower(P<0.05)than that in HWP and FSBM.ESBM increased(P<0.05)the fecal butyrate level in piglets compared with FSBM,and ESBM tended to decrease(P=0.076)the fecal cadaverine level.Overall,ESBM had advantages over HWP and FSBM in improving antioxidant status, immune function, fecal bacteria and metabolites for weaned piglets.Lianhua Zhang Xiangshu Piao 2022Animal Nutrition2022,,1:2
