1Effects of free ammonia on volatile fatty acid accumulation and process performance in the anaerobic digestion of two typical bio-wastes显示文摘The effect of free ammonia on volatile fatty acid(VFA)accumulation and process instability was studied using a lab-scale anaerobic digester fed by two typical bio-wastes:fruit and vegetable waste(FVW)and food waste(FW)at 35°C with an organic loading rate(OLR)of 3.0 kg VS/(m^3·day). The inhibitory effects of free ammonia on methanogenesis were observed due to the low C/N ratio of each substrate(15.6 and 17.2,respectively). A high concentration of free ammonia inhibited methanogenesis resulting in the accumulation of VFAs and a low methane yield. In the inhibited state,acetate accumulated more quickly than propionate and was the main type of accumulated VFA. The co-accumulation of ammonia and VFAs led to an 'inhibited steady state' and the ammonia was the main inhibitory substance that triggered the process perturbation. By statistical significance test and VFA fluctuation ratio analysis,the free ammonia inhibition threshold was identified as 45 mg/L. 2Field investigation on severely damaged aseismic buildings in 2014 Ludian earthquake显示文摘The 2014 magnitude 6.5 Ludian earthquake caused a death toll of 617, many landslides and tens of thousands of collapsed buildings. A field investigation to evaluate the damage to buildings was carried out immediately after the occurrence of the earthquake. Severely damaged aseismic buildings, which were basically observed in the downtown of Longtoushan Town, were carefully examined one by one with the aim to improve design codes. This paper summarizes the damage observed to the investigated aseismic buildings in both the structural and local levels. A common failure mode was observed that most of the aseismic buildings, such as RC frame structures and confined masonry structures, were similarly destroyed by severe damage or complete collapse of the first story. The related strong ground motion, which was recorded at the nearby station, had a short duration of less than 20 s but a very large PGA up to 1.0 g. The RC frames based on the new design codes still failed to achieve the design target for 'strong column, weak beam'. 3Quantitative investigation on collapse margin of steel high-rise buildings subjected to extremely severe earthquakes显示文摘Reponses of structures subjected to severe earthquakes sometimes significantly surpass what was considered in the design.It is important to investigate the failure mechanism and collapse margin of structures beyond design,especially for high-rise buildings.In this study,steel high-rise buildings using either square concrete-filled-tube(CFT) columns or steel tube columns are designed.A detailed three-dimensional(3 D) structural model is developed to analyze the seismic behavior of a steel high-rise towards a complete collapse.The effectiveness is verified by both component tests and a full-scale shaking table test.The collapse margin,which is defined as the ratio of PGA between the collapse level to the design major earthquake level(Level 2),is quantified by a series of numerical simulations using incremental dynamic analyses(IDA).The baseline building using CFT columns collapsed with a weak first story mechanism and presented a collapse margin ranging from 10 to 20.The significant variation in the collapse margin was caused by the different characteristics of the input ground motions.The building using equivalent steel columns collapsed earlier due to the significant shortening of the locally buckled columns,exhibiting only 57% of the collapse margin of the baseline building.The influence of reducing the height of the first story was quite significant.The shortened first story not only enlarged the collapse margin by 20%,but also changed the collapse mode.Lin Xuchuan Mikiko Kato Zhang Lingxin Masayoshi Nakashima 2018Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2018,17,3:9
4Synthesis of Li_4Ti_5O_(12) nanostructural anode materials with high charge–discharge capability显示文摘This study demonstrates a facile and efficient hydrothermal method to prepare spindle titanate(Li4Ti5O12 denoted as LTO)and/or carbon-LTO nanocomposites(CLTO),in which the LTO or C-LTO microspheres have diameters of a few micrometers,composed of numerous nanosheets with thickness of*30 nm and edge length of hundreds of nanometers.The morphology and size control of these nanoparticles could be achieved by varying experimental parameters including concentration of titanium butoxide,lithium hydroxide,and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide,as well as reaction temperature and time.These micro-nanostructures were characterized by several advanced techniques,such as transmission electron microscopy,scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction,energy dispersive spectroscopic analysis,surface area,and electrochemical measurements.The LTO and C-LTO microstructures were examined in the charge–discharge capacity at a rate of 50 C,as well as the stability after 100 cycles at a rate of 10 C.The excellent capability may be attributed to good conductivity,large surface area,and stable assembly structure of such micro-nanostructures,which could be explored as a promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries.Ru Wen Jeffrey Yue Zifeng Ma Wuming Chen Xuchuan Jiang Aibing Yu 2014Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,18:8
5Quantification of multi-antibiotic resistant opportunistic pathogenic bacteria in bioaerosols in and around a pharmaceutical wastewater treatment plant显示文摘Pharmaceutical wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs) are thought to be a 'seedbed' and reservoirs for multi-antibiotic resistant pathogenic bacteria which can be transmitted to the air environment through aeration. We quantified airborne multi-antibiotic resistance in a full-scale plant to treat antibiotics-producing wastewater by collecting bioaerosol samples from December2014 to July 2015. Gram-negative opportunistic pathogenic bacteria(GNOPB) were isolated, and antibiotic susceptibility tests against 18 commonly used antibiotics, including 11 β-lactam antibiotics, 3 aminoglycosides, 2 fluoroquinolones, 1 furan and 1 sulfonamide, were conducted.More than 45% of airborne bacteria isolated from the pharmaceutical WWTP were resistant to three or more antibiotics, and some opportunistic pathogenic strains were resistant to 16 antibiotics, whereas 45.3% and 50.3% of the strains isolated from residential community and municipal WWTP showed resistance to three or more antibiotics. The calculation of the multiple antibiotic resistance(MAR) index demonstrated that the air environment in the pharmaceutical WWTP was highly impacted by antibiotic resistance, while the residential community and municipal WWTP was less impacted by antibiotic resistance. In addition, we determined that the dominant genera of opportunistic pathogenic bacteria isolated from all bioaerosol samples were Acinetobacter, Alcaligenes, Citrobacter, Enterobacter, Escherichia, Klebsiella, Pantoea, Pseudomonas and Sphingomonas. 6Seed-mediated synthesis of dendritic platinum nanostructures with high catalytic activity for aqueous-phase hydrogenation of acetophenone显示文摘This work reports a facile and efficient seed-mediated method for the synthesis of dendritic platinum(Pt)nanoparticles(NPs) at low temperatures of 55–60 °C in water, using L-ascorbic acid as a reducing agent and sodium citrate as a capping agent. It is found that the dendritic Pt NPs(10–150 nm) are composed of tiny Pt nanocrystals, which nucleate and grow through the introduced smaller Pt seeds with diameters of 3–5 nm.Further investigation shows that the dendritic Pt nanostructures display excellent catalytic performance in an aqueous-phase aromatic ketone hydrogenation reaction, including:(i) acetophenone conversion rate of> 90%, with smaller dendritic Pt NPs(10–46 nm) offering a higher conversion efficiency;(ii) high chemoselectivity toward carbonyl group(90.6%–91.5%), e.g., the selectivity to 1-phenylethanol is ~90.1% with nearly100% acetophenone conversion for 10 nm dendritic Pt NPs within 60 min, under mild reaction conditions(20 °C, 1.5 bar H2 pressure, and 1.5 mol% catalyst). 7Realizing stable operation of anaerobic ammonia oxidation at low temperatures treating low strength synthetic wastewater显示文摘The low activity of Anammox bacteria at low temperatures and competition from nitrite oxidation bacteria(NOB) when treating low strength wastewater have been major bottlenecks in implementing Anammox in mainstream wastewater treatment. By intermittent high strength feeding(IHSF) and stepwise temperature reduction, stable operation of a granular Anammox reactor was realized at low temperatures(down to 15°C) for 28 days when treating low strength synthetic wastewater. The nitrogen loading rate reached 1.23–1.34 kgN/m^3/day,and the total nitrogen removal rate reached 0.71–0.98 kgN/m^3/day. The IHSF enriched the Anammox sludge in high strength cycles and compensated for sludge loss in low strength cycles, and the high concentration of ammonium in high strength cycles inhibited NOB. 8Rapid synthesis and growth of silver nanowires induced by vanadium trioxide particles显示文摘This study demonstrates a novel approach for rapid synthesis of silver(Ag) nanowires induced by vanadium trioxide(V2O3) particles in aqueous solution at room temperature.Silver nanowires have an average diameter of 20 nm and length up to a few micrometers by parametric optimization.The microstructure of the silver nanowires was characterized by TEM,HRTEM,SEM,and XRD techniques.The optical property of the as-prepared product was measured by ultraviolet-visible(UV-vis) spectroscopy.The possible growth mechanism of Ag nanowires via oriented attachment of Ag nanocrystals was discussed.The present approach shows several unique features such as rapid(a few minutes),reproducible and high-yield reaction with no need of any modifiers.V_2O_3 rods were reported for the first time to be used for synthesis of silver nanowires,playing multiple roles as reducing agent,template,and catalyst.The silver nanowires produced are promising for optical applications(e.g.,SERS) due to their rough surface.Haitao Fu Xiaohong Yang Aibing Yu Xuchuan Jiang 2013Particuology2013,11,4:3
