1The Urbanization Pattern of China in the 21st Century显示文摘The 21st century is referred to as a'century for cities' or 'era for cities' and China hasalso speeded up its process of urbanization. It is veryimportant to choose a scientific urbanization patternto exert the function of cities and realize our dreamfor China to become a powerful modernized country. It’s concluded from history since 1800 that the patternof the world urbanization has transformed from'extensive' to 'intensive'. However, it is still anextensive pattern in China, and there are manyproblems behind the splendid achievements, reflectedon the urbanization process of our country since1949. Today, sustainable development and theknowledge economy are the themes of the cities; itis inevitable to change our urbanization pattern.Based on the dialectic relationship of quality andquantity, the article points out that urbanizationshould not only focus on quantity but also on qualityin China. High quality and multiform urbanizationpattern is an inevitable choice of China, and thedevelopment of the region can also be exalted by theradiation of the cities. But what’s the real meaningof the new pattern? What’s its difference from thewestern countries’? The article discusses its contentaccording to the reality of China.Wang Chengxin 1,2, Yao Shimou 1 & Wang Gefang 31 Nanjing Institute of Geography & Limnology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing 210008, China 2 Graduate School, the Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing 100039, China 3 Shandong Party School of the Communist Party, Jinan 250021, China 2005Chinese Journal of Population,Resources and Environment2005,3,2:2

3Does Foreign Direct Investment Affect S0_(2) Emissions in the Yangtze River Delta?A Spatial Econometric Analysis显示文摘As the major source of air pollution, sulfur dioxide(S0_(2))emissions have become the focus of global attention. However, existing studies rarely consider spatial effects when discussing the relationship between foreign direct investment(FDI)and S0_(2) emissions. This study took the Yangtze River Delta as the research area and used the spatial panel data of 26 cities in this region for 2004-2017.The study investigated the spatial agglomeration effects and dynamics at work in FDI and S0_(2) emissions by using global and local measures of spatial autocorrelation. Then, based on regression analysis using a results of traditional ordinary least squares(OLS)model and a spatial econometric model, the spatial Durbin model(SDM)with spatial-time effects was adopted to quantify the impact of FDI on S0_(2) emissions,so as to avoid the regression results bias caused by ignoring the spatial effects. The results revealed a significant spatial autocorrelation between FDI and S0_(2) emissions, both of which displayed obvious path dependence characteristics in their geographical distribution.A series of agglomeration regions were observed on the spatial scale. The estimation results of the SDM showed that FDI inflow promoted S0_(2) emissions, which supports the pollution haven hypothesis. The findings of this study are significant in the prevention and control of air pollution in the Yangtze River Delta.GUO Zheng Sophia Shuang CHEN YAO Shimou Anna Charles MKUMBO 2021Chinese Geographical Science2021,31,3:1

7Scale-free Structure of Town Road Network in Southern Jiangsu Province of China显示文摘From the viewpoint of Graph Theory this paper builds a town road network graph of regional scale, and proposes numerical vertex degree (Di), rank vertex degree (Dr) and population size vertex degree (Dp) on the base of vertex degree (D). Then the indicators of Di, Dr, Dp and mathematical statistics methods are applied to investigating scale-free structure of town road networks in the southern Jiangsu Province. The results show that the distribution of Di does not exhibit scale-free properties, but Dr and Dp do. Additionally the correlation coefficient between Dp and Di is only 0.569, but the spatial correlation between Dp and Dr is very evident on the base of correlation analysis and spatial analysis of GIS. The mutual mechanism between Dp and Dr spatially represents a 'Core-Belt' model of town development of regional scale. The town development model is open and clustered, and beneficial to both economic development and ecological protection. And then we suggest that Suzhou City, Wuxi City, Changzhou City and Wujin City control towns' high-density pattern by conducting centralization and consolidation policies, and properly controlling and planning higher rank roads; whereas Nanjing City, Zhenjiang City, Jintan City and Liyang City must strengthen the development of towns along higher rank roads.SU Weizhong YANG Guishan YAO Shimou YANG Yingbao 2007Chinese Geographical Science2007,17,4:1
