| 1 | Research on failure scenarios of domes based on form vulnerability显示文摘In this paper, form vulnerability theory was applied to the analysis of the failure mechanisms of single-layer latticed spherical shells subjected to seismic excitations. Three 1/10 scale testing models were designed with characteristics as follows: Model 1 possesses overall uniform stiffness and is expected to collapse in the strength failure mode as some members become plastic; Model 2 possesses six man-made weak parts located on six radial main rib zones and is expected to collapse in the dynamic instability mode with all members still in the elastic stage; Model 3 strengthens the six weak zones of Model 2, and therefore, its stiffness is uniform. Model 3 is proposed to collapse in the strength failure mode when the members are still in the elastic stage. By increasing the peak ground accelerations of seismic waves gradually, the shaking table tests were carried out until all three models collapsed (or locally collapsed). On the basis of form vulnerability theory, topological hierarchy models of the test models were established through a clustering process, and various failure scenarios, including overall collapse scenarios and partial collapse scenarios, were identified by unzipping corresponding hierarchical models. By comparison of the failure scenarios based on theoretical analysis and experiments, it was found that vulnerability theory could effectively reflect the weakness zones in topological relations of the structures from the perspective of internal causes. The internal mechanisms of the distinct failure characteristics of reticulated shells subjected to seismic excitations were also revealed in this process. The well-formedness of structural clusters, Q, is closely related to the collapse modes, i.e., uniform changes of Q indicate a uniform distribution of overall structural stiffness, which indicates that strength failure is likely to happen; conversely, non-uniform changes of Q indicate that weak zones exist in the structure, and dynamic instability is likely to occur. | YE JiHong LIU WenZheng PAN Rui | 2011 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2011,54,11: | 15 |
| 2 | Implications of stalagmite density for past climate change:An example from stalagmite growth during the last deglaciation from Wanxiang Cave,western Loess Plateau显示文摘The density of a stalagmite(WX42A)from Wanxiang Cave,Wudu County,Gansu Province,China,in the western margin of the Asian summer monsoon region,presents regular fluctuations in different deposition periods during the last deglaciation.Over long timescales,high-precision 230Th dating and high-resolution stalagmite density data indicate that the density-time series between 17644 a BP and 12758 a BP is quite similar to the stalagmite δ18O record which reflects Asian monsoon intensity.Strengthening/weakening(lighter/heavier stalagmite δ18O values)of the Asian monsoon is accompanied by increase/decrease in stalagmite density.Over short timescales,decrease in stalagmite density correlates to monsoon-retreat events such as the Inter-AllerФd Cold Period(IACP),Older Dryas(OD)and Inter-BФlling Cold Period(IBCP).Generally,this kind of decrease in stalagmite density reflects precipitation decrease with weakening of the Asian monsoon,which in turn slows cave dripwater rate and decreases crystal nuclei,leading to enlargement of calcite crystals,weakened biological activity and decreased soil pCO2 which increases the abundance of impure detrital materials in stalagmites.However,during the period of large amplitude reduction of precipitation and biological activity which resulted from extreme monsoon-retreat events,temperature variation would dominate fluctuation of stalagmite density.For example,stalagmite density increased suddenly when temperature dropped suddenly in the north Atlantic during Heinrich event 1(H-1).This may be caused by low seepage water temperature,more dissolved calcium carbonate,compact regular crystals forming under higher supersaturation,leading to the stalagmite increased density.Stalagmite density fluctuation sensitively recorded stalagmite growth history and environment,demonstrating that stalagmite density can be used as a proxy for paleoclimatic research. | ZHANG DeZhong ZHANG PingZhong SANG WenCui CHENG Hai WU XiuPing YUAN Ye BAI YiJun WANG JiangLin JIA JiHong | 2010 | Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,34: | 7 |
| 3 | Strength failure of spatial reticulated structures under multi-support excitation显示文摘Under strong earthquakes, long-span spatial latticed structures may collapse due to dynamic instability or strength failure. The elasto-plastic dynamic behaviors of three spatial latticed structures, including two double-layer cylindrical shells and one spherical shell constructed for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, were quantitatively examined under multi-support excitation (MSE) and uniform support excitation (USE). In the numerical analyses, several important parameters were investigated such as the peak acceleration and displacement responses at key joints, the number and distribution of plastic members, and the deformation of the shell at the moment of collapse. Analysis results reveal the features and the failure mechanism of the spatial latticed structures under MSE and USE. In both scenarios, the double-layer reticulated shell collapses in the 'overflow' mode, and the collapse is governed by the number of invalid plastic members rather than the total number of plastic members, beginning with damage to some of the local regions near the supports. By comparing the numbers and distributions of the plastic members under MSE to those under USE, it was observed that the plastic members spread more sufficiently and the internal forces are more uniform under MSE, especially in cases of lower apparent velocities in soils. | 4 | The interaction between membrane structure and wind based on the discontinuous boundary element显示文摘Small disturbance potential theory is widely used in solving aerodynamic problems with low Mach numbers, and it plays an important role in engineering design. Concerning structure wind engineering, the body of the structure is in a low velocity wind field, with a low viscosity of air and thin boundary layer, therefore, the tiny shear stress caused by the boundary layer can be ignored, only wind pressure being considered. In this paper, based on small disturbance potential theory, the fluid-structure interaction between the wind and membrane structure is analyzed by joint utilization of the boundary element method (BEM) and finite element method (FEM) through a loose-coupling procedure. However, the boundary of flow field to be calculated is not fully smooth, corners and edges still exist, so the discontinuous boundary element is introduced. Furthermore, because a large scale boundary element equation set with a nonsymmetrical coefficient matrix must be solved, this paper imports a preconditioning GMRES (the generalized minimum residual) iterative algorithm, which takes full advantage of the boundary element method. | 6 | Vertical coherency function model of spatial ground motion显示文摘Many studies have focused on horizontal ground motion, resulting in many coherency functions for horizontal ground motion while neglecting related problems arising from vertical ground motion. However, seismic events have demonstrated that the vertical components of ground motion sometimes govern the ultimate failure of structures. In this paper, a vertical coherency function model of spatial ground motion is proposed based on the Hao model and SMART 1 array records, and the validity of the model is demonstrated. The vertical coherency function model of spatial ground motion is also compared with the horizontal coherency function model, indicating that neither model exhibits isotropic characteristics. The value of the vertical coherency function has little correlation with that of the horizontal coherency function. However, the coherence of the vertical ground motion between a pair of stations decreases with their projection distance and the frequency of the ground motion. | 7 | Numerical and experimental research on annular crossed cable-truss structure under cable rupture显示文摘The Annular Crossed Cable-Truss Structure(ACCTS) is a new type of Tensile Spatial Structure with a configuration suitable to cover large-span stadiums. Its configuration has potential to perform well in resisting disproportionate collapse. However, its disproportionate collapse resistance hasn't yet been analyzed in depth. In this study, numerical and experimental research was carried out to investigate the performance of ACCTS under cable rupture. The numerical analysis was done for ten cable-rupture plans using LS-DYNA(explicit method) and the experimental test on an ACCTS with a diameter of 17.15 m was performed for three cable-rupture plans. | 10 | Epidemiology of Animal Rabies—China,2010–2020显示文摘Introduction:Rabies is a fatal zoonotic infectious disease that poses a serious threat to public health in China.Since 2005,a National Animal Rabies Surveillance System has been operating to understand the rabies situation in animals in China with a view to control and eventually eliminate dog-mediated human rabies.Methods:From 2010,the brain tissues of dogs,livestock,and wild animals showing rabies-like clinical signs were collected and tested by the National Reference Laboratory(NRL)for Animal Rabies to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of rabies,including animal species,geographic distribution,and transmission sources.Over the same period,clinically suspected animal rabies cases were collected by Animal Disease Control Centers through the National Animal Disease Monitoring Information Platform(NADMIP)and then reported in the Veterinary Bulletin.Results:During 2010–2020,170 of 212 suspected animal rabies cases were submitted to and confirmed by NRL as rabies virus-positive.Of these confirmed cases dogs,especially free-roaming and ownerless dogs in rural areas,were major transmission hosts(71/170).A total of 51 infected dogs attacked humans with 45 biting more than one person.The dog cases were reported all year round,but with significantly more in spring and summer.The majority of livestock rabies cases(70/80)being caused by rabid wild foxes in Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia revealed that foxes play a pivotal role in animal rabies epizootics in the north and northwest of the country.Conclusion:Dogs were the main transmission sources of rabies in China,and along with the recent increase of rabies in foxes and other wildlife,presented an increasing threat to livestock and public health. | Ye Feng Jihong Ma Sheng Sun Lijuan Chi Zhanying Kou Changchun Tu | 2021 | China CDC weekly2021,3,39: | 3 |

| 14 | Simulation of construction shape-forming process of cable domes显示文摘A cable dome has no stiffness or load carrying capacity unless it has been prestressed.Analyses of cable domes are based on successful prestressing designs,making force finding analysis very important.A new force finding method named the imbal-ance force iterative method is proposed,which can overcome some limitations of the integrity feasible prestressing method.For instance,even if groups are assigned by mistake,the pretension distribution that satisfies the known geometry form can also be found.This method possess good stability and calculation efficiency,and a case study indicates that it is applicable to the force finding of large and complicated cable domes.On the other hand,form finding analysis of cable domes is also a key engineering problem.However,rigid displacement occurs in this process,which makes the analysis more complex.In this pa-per,the dynamic relaxation method was selected,and the problem of rigid displacement was therefore effectively solved.The method includes two steps:first,the stretching cables are released,and secondly,an axial force is imposed on the two ends of each released cable.This method is convenient in its calculation and clear in its conception.A case study indicates that the method is suitable for the simulation of the construction process of various cable domes and cable-strut tension structures.Moreover,a form finding experiment was conducted on a model of a cable dome with a diameter of 4.8 m by tensing diagonal cables.The behavior of the model in the form finding process was investigated.The experimental results indicate that the ini-tial lengths of members and prestress loss are key issues in cable domes design.The results also prove that the methods of form finding and force finding proposed in this paper are reliable and effective. | YE JiHong FENG RuoQiang KAN Yuan | 2012 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2012,55,1: | 1 |
