1Spatial pattern and decadal change of agro-meteorological disasters in the main wheat production area of China during 1991-2009显示文摘Agro-meteorological disasters(AMD) have become more frequent with climate warming. In this study, the temporal and spatial changes in the occurrence frequency of major meteorological disasters on wheat production were firstly explored by analyzing the observed records at national agro-meteorological stations(AMS) of China from 1991 to 2009. Furthermore, impact of climate change on AMD was discussed by comparing the warmer decade(2000–2009) with another decade(1991–2000). It was found that drought was the most frequent disaster during the last two decades, with a highest proportion of 79%. And the frequency of AMD increased significantly with climate change. Specifically, the main disasters occurred more frequently in the reproductive period than in the vegetative period. Besides, the spatial changes in the AMD frequency were characterized by region-specific. For example, the wheat cultivation areas located on the Loess Plateau and the middle-lower reaches of the Yellow River suffered mainly from drought. All these results were strongly linked to climate change in China. 4Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear.Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks.Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. 6Comparison of Human Papillomavirus Detection and Genotyping with Four Different Prime Sets by PCR-Sequencing显示文摘Objective To assess and compare the Human Papillomavirus(HPV) detection efficiency and the potential clinical utility of PCR sequencing‐based technology.Methods Four HPV consensus primer sets(GP5+/6+,MGP,MY09/11,and PGMY09/11) were used in order to amplify a broad spectrum of HPV types for HPV infection in 325 cervical samples and the PCR products were sequenced afterwards for the HPV genotyping.Results The HPV‐positive rate was 75.4%,of which 35.5% harbored more than one HPV genotype.A total of 36 different genotypes was found,with HPV 16(24.1%) being the most prevalent,followed by HPV 58(13.3%) and HPV 52(9.6%).There were substantial to almost perfect agreements between different primer sets regarding HPV detection efficiency,with the kappa value varying from 0.751 to 0.925,MGP,and PGMY09/11 were the most effective in detecting multiple infections(P<0.001).With each of the primer sets,a board range of HPV types could be identified,though there were several differences for a few genotypes.Conclusion The substantial agreement between PCR‐sequencing and HC2 for the detection of high‐risk HPV(kappa=0.761) indicated that PCR‐sequencing is also suitable for routine HPV screening.CAI Yu Pin YANG Yi ZHU Bao Li LI Yuan XIA Xiao Yu ZHANG Rui Fen XIANG Yang 2013Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2013,26,1:4

9Endothelial METRNL determines circulating METRNL level and maintains endothelial function against atherosclerosis显示文摘METRNL is a recently identified secreted protein with emerging functions.This study is to find major cellular source of circulating METRNL and to determine METRNL novel function.Here,we show METRNL is abundant in human and mouse vascular endothelium and released by endothelial cells using endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi apparatus pathway.By creating endothelial cell-specific Metrnl knockout mice,combined with bone marrow transplantation to produce bone marrow-specific deletion of Metrnl,we demonstrate that most of circulating METRNL(approximately 75%)originates from the endothelial cells.Both endothelial and circulating METRNL decrease in atherosclerosis mice and patients.By generating endothelial cell-specific Metrnl knockout in apolipoprotein E-deficient mice,combined with bone marrow-specific deletion of Metrnl in apolipoprotein E-deficient mice,we further demonstrate that endothelial METRNL deficiency accelerates atherosclerosis.Mechanically,endothelial METRNL deficiency causes vascular endothelial dysfunction including vasodilation impairment via reducing eNOS phosphorylation at Ser1177 and inflammation activation via enhancing NFκB pathway,which promotes the susceptibility of atherosclerosis.Exogenous METRNL rescues METRNL deficiency induced endothelial dysfunction.These findings reveal that METRNL is a new endothelial substance not only determining the circulating METRNL level but also regulating endothelial function for vascular health and disease.METRNL is a therapeutic target against endothelial dysfunction and atherosclerosis.Sili Zheng Zhiyong Li Jie Song Pin Wang Jian Xu Wenjun Hu Yi Shi Qi Qi Zhuwei Miao Yunfeng Guan Chaoyu Miao 2023Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2023,13,4:2
10Influencing factors on the preservation of lytic bacteriophage VP3显示文摘Long-term and stable preservation of bacteriophages is of crucial importance.Although many efforts have been made in the past decades to explore the influence of external factors on bacteriophage preservation,there is still little understanding,and a systematic description is lacking.In this study,we explored the influence of different factors on the preservation of lytic bacteriophage VP3,one of the typing bacteriophages of Vibrio cholerae O1 biotype El Tor,and attempted to optimize its preservation.We examined external factors,including temperature,solution,and cryoprotectant,in stable cooling/freezing conditions or alternate cooling/freezing and thawing.We found that whether in Luria-Bertani(LB)medium or SM buffer,in terms of 20-week stable cooling or freezing,−20℃ was the most damaging while 4℃,−80℃,and−196℃ were protective.Thirteen cycles of alternate cooling/freezing and thawing caused a loss in the survival rates of bacteriophages.The addition of cryoprotectant,glycerol(30%,w/v)or dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO,10%,w/v)significantly improved the survival rates of bacteriophages preserved at−20℃.However,at 4℃,−80℃,and−196℃,the cryoprotectant effect was only slightly positive or even harmful.In summary,for bacteriophage VP3,the best preservation method is to directly preserve the bacteriophage stocks in LB medium at−80℃ or−196℃ instead of storing them in SM buffer or adding cryoprotectant.Our results provided insights into the external influencing factors on bacteriophage VP3 during preservation at low temperature and can be applied to the optimization of bacteriophage preservation in the future.Yue Xiao Pin Huang Zhenzhou Huang Keyi Yu Yang Song Ning Guo Hang Dai Mengnan Jiang Yi Xu Duochun Wang Qiang Wei 2022Biosafety and Health2022,4,5:2

14Preparation of electrically enhanced forward osmosis(FO)membrane by two-dimensional MXenes for organic fouling mitigation显示文摘In this work,a conductive thin film composite forward osmosis(TFC-FO)membrane was firstly prepared via vacuum filtering MXenes nanolayer on the outer surface of polyethersulfone membrane followed by interfacial polymerization in the other side.Moreover,its feasibility of mitigating organic fouling under electric field was evaluated.Results indicated that the addition of MXenes greatly reduced the electric resistance of membrane from 2.1×10^(12)Ωto 46.8Ω,enhanced the membrane porosity and promoted the membrane performance in terms of the ratio of water flux to reverse salt flux.The modified TFC-FO membrane presented the optimal performance with 0.47 g/m^(2)loading amount of MXenes.Organic fouling experiments using sodium alginate(SA)and bovine serum albumin(BSA)as representative demonstrated that the introduction of MXenes could effectively enhance the anti-fouling ability of TFC-FO membrane under the electric field of 2 V.The interelectron repulsion hindered organic foulants attaching into membrane surface and thus effectively alleviated the membrane fouling.More importantly,the modified TFC-FO membrane showed good stability during the fouling experiment of 10 h.In all,our work proved that introducing MXenes into the porous layer of support is feasible to alleviate organic fouling of FO membrane.Mengsi Xu Pin Zhao Chuyang Y.Tang Xiawen Yi Xinhua Wang 2022Chinese Chemical Letters2022,33,8:1
