In thispaper, we give the gradient estimates on positive solutions to the following elliptic equation withsingular nonlinearity:Δu(x)+cu^(-α)(x)=0 in M,where α> 0, c are two real constants. When c < 0 and M is a bounded smooth domain in R^n, theabove equation is known as the thin film equation, which describes a steady state of the thin film(see Guo-Wei [Manuscripta Math., 120, 193-209 (2006)]). The vents in the wall allowed the air exchange between the piggeries and the greenhouses, so that carbon dioxide(CO_2) could be released from the piggeries to the greenhouses, and oxygen(O_2) could be released from the greenhouses to the piggeries. In the greenhouses, tomato, Chinese cabbage and muskmelon were planted and their quality indices were determined to evaluate their response to elevated CO_2. | 12 | Nuclear ?eld shift effects on stable isotope fractionation: a review显示文摘An anomalous isotope effect exists in many heavy element isotope systems(e.g., Sr, Gd, Zn, U). This effect used to be called the ‘‘odd–even isotope effect''because the odd mass number isotopes behave differently from the even mass number isotopes. This mass-independent isotope fractionation driving force, which originates from the difference in the ground-state electronic energies caused by differences in nuclear size and shape, is currently denoted as the nuclear field shift effect(NFSE). It is found that the NFSE can drive isotope fractionation of some heavy elements(e.g., Hg, Tl, U) to an astonishing degree, far more than the magnitude caused by the conventional mass-dependent effect(MDE). For light elements, the MDE is the dominant factor in isotope fractionation, while the NFSE is neglectable. Furthermore,the MDE and the NFSE both decrease as temperatures increase, though at different rates. The MDE decreases rapidly with a factor of 1/T2, while the NFSE decreases slowly with a factor of 1/T. As a result, even at high temperatures, the NFSE is still significant for many heavy element isotope systems. | 14 | Subacute toxicity of exogenous manganese on rat hippocampal neurons Examination by MRI and optical microscopy显示文摘BACKGROUND: Manganism may cause learning and memory impairment by influencing the normal function of the hippocampus, however, this effect requires further examination. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of manganism on the rat hippocampus using immunohistochemistry and MRI examination. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A randomized controlled study, performed in the School of Medicine and Life Science, Jianghan University and the State Key Laboratory of Atomic & Molecular Physics and Spectroscopy, Chinese Academy of Science, from July to September 2005. MATERIALS: Fourteen healthy SD rats aged two months were selected for this study. MnCl2 4H2O (BHD, UK) (batch number: 9791325); glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) staining kit (Beijing Zhongshan Biotechnology); Biospec 4.7T/30 animal MRI formatter (Bruker, Germany). METHODS: Fourteen rats were randomly divided into a control group (n =7) and a manganism group (n = 7). Rats in the manganism group received intraperitoneal injection of MnCl2·4H2O (50 mg/kg), once a day, for four successive days. Rats in the control group were injected according to the manganism regimen, but using saline instead of manganese solution. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Twenty-four hours after the last injection, rats were examined using MRI. Immunohistochemically stained GFAP and hematoxylin-eosin stained hippocampal sections were observed under optical microscopy. RESULTS: Fourteen rats were included in the final analysis. After manganese treatment, T1 weighted image and inversion recovery MRI demonstrated that the signal intensity was significantly enhanced in hippocampus, compared to controls. Neuronal necrosis was not observed in the hippocampus after HE staining. As compared to the control group, GFAP expression was markedly enhanced in the hippocampus of the manganism group.
