| 2 | Bacterial biota in reflux esophagitis and Barrett's esophagus显示文摘AIM: To identify the bacterial flora in conditions such as Barrett's esophagus and reflux esophagitis to determine if they are similar to normal esophageal flora.METHODS: Using broad-range 16S rDNA PCR,esophageal biopsies were examined from 24 patients [9with normal esophageal mucosa, 12 with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and 3 with Barrett's esophagus].Two separate broad-range PCR reactions were performed for each patient, and the resulting products were cloned.In one patient with Barrett's esophagus, g9 PCR clones were analyzed.RESULTS: Two separate clones were recovered from each patient (total = 48), representing 24 different species, with 14 species homologous to known bacteria,5 homologous to unidentified bacteria, and 5 were not homologous (<97% identity) to any known bacterial 16S rDNA sequences. Seventeen species were found in the reflux esophagitis patients, 5 in the Barrett's esophagus patients, and 10 in normal esophagus patients.Further analysis concentrating on a single biopsy from an individual with Barrett's esophagus revealed the presence of 21. distinct bacterial species. Members of four phyla were represented, including Bacteroidetes,Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, and Actinobacteria.Microscopic examination of each biopsy demonstrated bacteria in intimate association with the distal esophageal epithelium, suggesting that the presence of these bacteria is not transitory.CONCLUSION: These findings provide evidence for a complex, residential bacterial population in esophageal reflux-related disorders. | 4 | Effective and simple recovery of 1,3-propanediol from a fermented medium by liquid–liquid extraction system with ethanol and K_3PO_4显示文摘1,3-Propanediol,traditionally obtained from fossils,has numerous industrial applications,including use in the production of high performance polymers.The microbial production of 1,3-propanediol presents several opportunities,and the final purity grade determines its price and commercial viability.The development of novel separation technology could improve the economic viability of the bioproduction of 1,3-propanediol.Thus,we investigated salting-out extraction as a novel process for 1,3-propanediol recovery from fermentation broth.Initially,a screening for the best salt/solvent combination was conducted and then optimized using the response surface methodology.The solvents studied were methanol,ethanol,isopropanol and acetone,and the salts examined were K_2HPO_4,Na_2CO_3,K_2CO_3,(NH_4)_2SO_4,NaHPO_4,K_3PO_4 and C_6H_5NaO_7.The optimal extraction system consisted of 34 wt%K_3PO_4,28 wt% ethanol,and 38 wt% fermentation broth containing 23.0 g·L^(-1)1,3-propanediol,which gave the highest partition coefficient of 33 and recovery yield of 97%.The results demonstrated that salting-out extraction was a promising method for 1,3-propanediol recovery from fermentation broth. | Daiana Wischral Hongxin Fu Fernando L.Pellegrini Pessoa Nei Pereira Jr Shang-Tian Yang | 2018 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2018,26,1: | 2 |
| 5 | Spectral reflectance response to nitrogen fertilization in field grown corn显示文摘This study was carried out to analyze the spectral reflectance response of different nitrogen levels for corn crops.Four different nitrogen treatments of 0%,80%,100%and 120%BMP(best management practice)were studied.Principal component analysis-loading(PCA-loading)was used to identify the effective wavelengths.Partial least squares(PLS)and multiple linear regression(MLR)models were built to predict different nitrogen values.Vegetation indices(VIs)were calculated and then used to build more prediction models.Both full and selected wavelengths-based models showed similar prediction trends.The overall PLS model obtained the coefficient of determination(R^(2))of 0.6535 with a root mean square error(RMSE)of 0.2681 in the prediction set.The selected wavelengths for overall MLR model obtained the R^(2) of 0.6735 and RMSE of 0.3457 in the prediction set.The results showed that the wavelengths in visible and near infrared region(350-1000 nm)performed better than the two either spectral regions(1001-1350/1425-1800 nm and 2000-2400 nm).For each data set,the wavelengths around 555 nm and 730 nm were identified to be the most important to predict nitrogen rates.The vogelmann red edge index 2(VOG 2)performed the best among all VIs.It demonstrated that spectral reflectance has the potential to be used for analyzing nitrogen response in corn. | Chuanqi Xie Ce Yang Alexander Hummel Jr Gregg A Johnson Forrest T Izuno | 2018 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2018,11,4: | 2 |
