1Effective and biocompatible antibacterial surfaces via facile synthesis and surface modification of peptide polymers显示文摘It is an urgent need to tackle drug-resistance microbial infections that are associated with implantable biomedical devices.Host defense peptide-mimicking polymers have been actively explored in recent years to fight against drug-resistant microbes. Our recent report on lithium hexamethyldisilazide-initiated superfast polymerization on amino acid N-carboxyanhydrides enables the quick synthesis of host defense peptide-mimicking peptide polymers. Here we reported a facile and cost-effective thermoplastic polyurethane(TPU)surface modification of peptide polymer(DLL:BLG=90:10)using plasma surface activation and substitution reaction between thiol and bromide groups. The peptide polymer-modified TPU surfaces exhibited board-spectrum antibacterial property as well as effective contact-killing ability in vitro.Furthermore, the peptide polymer-modified TPU surfaces showed excellent biocompatibility, displaying no hemolysis and cytotoxicity. In vivo study using methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA)for subcutaneous implantation infectious model showed that peptide polymer-modified TPU surfaces revealed obvious suppression of infection and great histocompatibility, compared to bare TPU surfaces. We further explored the antimicrobial mechanism of the peptide polymer-modified TPU surfaces, which revealed a surface contact-killing mechanism by disrupting the bacterial membrane. These results demonstrated great potential of the peptide-modified TPU surfaces for practical application to combat bacterial infections that are associated with implantable materials and devices.Ziyi Lu Yueming Wu Zihao Cong Yuxin Qian Xue Wu Ning Shao Zhongqian Qiao Haodong Zhang Yunrui She Kang Chen Hengxue Xiang Bin Sun Qian Yu Yuan Yuan Haodong Lin Meifang Zhu Runhui Liu 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,12:5
2In vitro and in vivo evaluation of implantable bacterial-killing coatings based on host defense peptides and their synthetic mimics显示文摘Contact-killing antimicrobial coatings based on host defense peptides(HDPs) and their synthetic mimics have shown potential as powerful tools to combat implant-associated infections. Covalent modification of the antimicrobial surface has been utilized to prevent early-stage microbial infections owing to the less drug-leaching possibility that is beneficial to human health and the natural environment. Although considerable progress has been achieved in preparing contact-killing antimicrobial surfaces, discussions focusing on the in vitro and in vivo evaluations of these surfaces are limited. In this review, we summarized the established in vitro methods to simulate the practical interaction of microbes with the surrounding biological environment and the reported in vivo studies at different implant sites. We suggested that the in vivo specific site infection model is essential to gain a comprehensive understanding of these antimicrobial coatings in the preclinical stage, which can be established based on investigations performed using various in vitro assays and conventional non-specific site infection models. Overall, these precedent studies focusing on bacterial contact-killing coatings modified with HDPs and HDP mimics can be considered as critical to assess the surface antibacterial ability and to guide the future developments and applications of antimicrobial surfaces.Yuxin Qian Shuai Deng Xue Wu Yunrui She Runhui Liu Haodong Lin 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,32:0
3Retrieval of Winter Wheat Canopy Carotenoid Content with Ground-and Airborne-Based Hyperspectral Data显示文摘Accurate assessment of canopy carotenoid content(CC_(x+c)C)in crops is central to monitor physiological conditions in plants and vegetation stress, and consequently supporting agronomic decisions. However, due to the overlap of absorption peaks of carotenoid(C_(x+c))and chlorophyll(C_(a+b)),accurate estimation of carotenoid using reflectance where carotenoid absorb is challenging. The objective of present study was to assess CC_(x+c)C in winter wheat(Triticum aestivum L.)with ground-and aircraft-based hyperspectral measurements in the visible and near-infrared spectrum.In-situ hyperspectral reflectance were measured and airborne hyperspectral data were acquired during major growth stages of winter wheat in five consecutive field experiments. At the canopy level,a remarkable linear relationship(R^(2)=0.95,p<0.001)existed between C_(x+c) and Ca+b,and correlation between CC_(x+c)C and wavelengths within 400 to 1000 nm range indicated that CC_(x+c)C could be estimated using reflectance ranging from visible to near-infrared wavebands. Results of Cx+c assessment based on chlorophyll and carotenoid indices showed that red edge chlorophyll index(CI red edge)performed with the highest accuracy(R^(2)=0.77,RMSE=22.27μg/cm^(2),MAE=4.97μg/cm^(2)).Applying partial least square regression(PLSR)in CC_(x+c)C retrieval emphasized the significance of reflectance within 700 to 750 nm range in CC_(x+c)C assessment.Based on CI red edge index, use of airborne hyperspectral imagery achieved satisfactory results in mapping the spatial distribution of CC_(x+c)C.This study demonstrates that it is feasible to accurately assess CC_(x+c)C in winter wheat with red edge chlorophyll index provided that C_(x+c) correlated well with C_(a+b) at the canopy scale.it is therefore a promising method for CC_(x+c)C retrieval at regional scale from aerial hyperspectral imagery.Ting Cui Xianfeng Zhou Yufeng Huang Yanting Guo Yunrui Lin Leyi Song Jingcheng Zhang 2023Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2023,92,9:0
