2Sand-fixing characteristics of Carex brunnescens and its application with straw checkerboard technique in restoration of degraded alpine meadows显示文摘Carex brunnescens(Pers.), a typical clonal species, is considered to be the only herb found to date that can develop on sand dunes in Maqu alpine region of northwestern China. However, the characteristics that C. brunnescens resists to harsh alpine environment have not been documented. In this study, we conducted a field investigation to determine the morphological, reproductive, and sand-fixing characteristics of C. brunnescens. Concomitantly, we transplanted the belowground rhizomes of C. brunnescens to sand dunes and compared the abilities to restore degraded alpine meadows among sand dunes that had no further treatment(SD+N), sand dunes that had straw checkerboard technique but no transplanted rhizomes of C. brunnescens(SD+SCT), and sand dunes that had both SCT and transplanted rhizomes of C. brunnescens(SD+SCT+P). We found that belowground vertical rhizomes and horizontal rhizomes(including branching rhizomes and main rhizomes) of C. brunnescens were highly developed and that population reproduction was dominated by horizontal rhizomes. C. brunnescens exhibited a significant sand-fixation effect under following conditions: population density was 145–156 ramets/m^2, vegetation cover was 31.2%–39.3%, total length of belowground rhizomes was 11,223 cm/m^2, total length of belowground first-order roots was 9161–10,524 cm/m^2, fresh weight of aboveground part was 198.5–212.6 g/m^2, and fresh weight of belowground part was 578.8–612.4 g/m^2. It should be particularly noted that SD+SCT+P treatment(sand dunes that had both straw checkerboard technique and transplanted rhizomes of C. brunnescens) was the best and SD+N(sand dunes that had no further treatment) was the worst in terms of following biotic indicators: total number of reproductive ramets, total number of belowground rhizomes, and fresh weight of aboveground and belowground parts of C. brunnescens, contents of soil organic carbon, available nitrogen, microbial biomass carbon, and microbial biomass nitrogen. It implies that applying SCT in sand dunes and transplanting belowground rhizomes to sand dunes with SCT could improve both soil fertility and growth of C. brunnescens. 3Palm oil protectsα-linolenic acid from rumen biohydrogenation and muscle oxidation in cashmere goat kids显示文摘Background:In ruminants,dietary C18:3n-3 can be lost through biohydrogenation in the rumen;and C18:3n-3 that by-passes the rumen still can be lost through oxidation in muscle,theoretically reducing the deposition of C18:3n-3,the substrate for synthesis of poly-unsaturated fatty acids(n-3 LCPUFA)in muscle.In vitro studies have shown that rumen hydrogenation of C18:3n-3 is reduced by supplementation with palm oil(rich in cis-9 C18:1).In addition,in hepatocytes,studies with neonatal rats have shown that cis-9 C18:1 inhibits the oxidation of C18:3n-3.It therefore seems likely that palm oil could reduce both rumen biohydrogenation of C18:3n-3 and muscle oxidation of C18:3n-3.The present experiment tested whether the addition of palm oil to a linseed oil supplement for goat kids would prevent the losses of C18:3n-3 and thus improve the FA composition in two muscles,Longissimus dorsi and Biceps femoris.To investigate the processes involved,we studied the rumen bacterial communities and measured the mRNA expression of genes related to lipid metabolism in Longissimus dorsi.Sixty 4-month-old castrated male Albas white cashmere kids were randomly allocated among three dietary treatments.All three diets contained the same ingredients in the same proportions,but differed in their fat additives:palm oil(PMO),linseed oil(LSO)or mixed oil(MIX;2 parts linseed oil plus 1 part palm oil on a weight basis).Results:Compared with the LSO diet,the MIX diet decreased the relative abuandance of Pseudobutyrivibrio,a bacterial species that is positively related to the proportional loss rate of dietary C18:3n-3 and that has been reported to generate the ATP required for biohydrogenation(reflecting a decrease in the abundance of rumen bacteria that hydrogenate C18:3n-3 in MIX kids).In muscle,the MIX diet increased concentrations of C18:3n-3,C20:5n-3,C22:6n-3,and n-3 LCPUFA,and thus decreased the n-6/n-3 ratio;decreased the mRNA expression of CPT1β(a gene associated with fatty acid oxidation)and increased the mRNA expression of FADS1 and FADS2(genes associated with n-3 LCPUFA synthesis),compared with the LSO diet.Interestingly,compared to Longissimus dorsi,Biceps femoris had greater concentrations of PUFA,greater ratios of unsaturated fatty acids/saturated fatty acids(U/S),and poly-unsaturated fatty acids/saturated fatty acids(P/S),but a lesser concentration of saturated fatty acids(SFA).Conclusions:In cashmere goat kids,a combination of linseed and palm oils in the diet increases the muscle concentration of n-3 LCPUFA,apparently by decreasing the relative abundance of rumen bacteria that are positively related to the proportional loss rate of dietary C18:3n-3,by inhibiting mRNA expression of genes related to C18:3n-3 oxidation in muscle,and by up-regulating mRNA expression of genes related to n-3 LCPUFA synthesis in muscle,especially in Longissimus dorsi.Xue Wang Graeme B.Martin Qi Wen Shulin Liu Yinhao Li Binlin Shi Xiaoyu Guo Yanli Zhao Yangdong Guo Sumei Yan 2021Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2021,12,2:3
4A Hierarchical Ensemble Learning Framework for Energy-Efficient Automatic Train Driving显示文摘Railway transportation plays an important role in modern society. As China's massive railway transportation network continues to grow in total mileage and operation density, the energy consumption of trains becomes a serious concern. For any given route, the geographic characteristics are known a priori, but the parameters(e.g., loading and marshaling) of trains vary from one trip to another. An extensive analysis of the train operation data suggests that the control gear operation of trains is the most important factor that affects the energy consumption. Such an observation determines that the problem of energy-efficient train driving has to be addressed by considering both the geographic information and the trip parameters. However, the problem is difficult to solve due to its high dimension, nonlinearity, complex constraints, and time-varying characteristics. Faced with these difficulties, we propose an energy-efficient train control framework based on a hierarchical ensemble learning approach. Through hierarchical refinement, we learn prediction models of speed and gear. The learned models can be used to derive optimized driving operations under real-time requirements. This study uses random forest and bagging – REPTree as classification algorithm and regression algorithm, respectively. We conduct an extensive study on the potential of bagging, decision trees, random forest, and feature selection to design an effective hierarchical ensemble learning framework. The proposed framework was testified through simulation. 12D6 protein kinase in root xylem benefiting resistance to Fusarium reveals in fection and defense mechanisms in tung trees显示文摘Fusarium oxysporum,a global soil-borne pathogen,causes severe disease in various cultivated plants.The mechanism underlying infection and resistance remains largely elusive.Vernicia fordii,known as the tung tree,suffers from disease caused by F.oxysporum f.sp.fordiis(Fof-1),while its sister species V.montana displays high resistance to Fof-1.To investigate the process of infection and resistance ability,we demonstrated that Fof-1 can penetrate the epidermis of root hairs and then centripetally invade the cortex and phloem in both species.Furthermore,Fof-1 spread upwards through the root xylem in susceptible V.fordii trees,whereas it failed to infect the root xylem in resistant V.montana trees.We found that D6 PROTEIN KINASE LIKE 2(VmD6PKL2)was speci fically expressed in the lateral root xylem and was induced after Fof-1 infection in resistant trees.Transgenic analysis in Arabidopsis and tomato revealed that VmD6PKL2 signi ficantly enhanced resistance in both species,whereas the d6pkl2 mutant displayed reduced resistance against Fof-1.Additionally,VmD6PKL2 was identi fied to interact directly with synaptotagmin(VmSYT3),which is speci fically expressed in the root xylem and mediates the negative regulation responding to Fof-1.Our data suggested that VmD6PKL2 could act as a resistance gene against Fof-1 through suppression of VmSYT3-mediated negative regulation in the lateral root xylem of the resistant species.These findings provide novel insight into Fusarium wilt resistance in plants.Qiyan Zhang Liwen Hengfu Yin Zilong Xu Yunxiao Zhao Ming Gao Hong Wu Yicun Chen Yangdong Wang 2021Horticulture Research2021,8,1:1
13Antimicrobial activity of essential oils extracted from Litsea cubeba显示文摘Litsea cubeba(Lour.)Pers.(Lauraceae),also known as May Chang tree or Chinese pepper,is frequently utilized for its essential oil,which is widely used in flavors,perfumes,and antimicrobials.Despite its myriad of uses,the stability and diversity of the various chemical components of L.cubeba oil have not been sufficiently investigated.Here,we utilized 31 families planted in a test forest.The stability of the essential oil content in each family was assessed over a four-year period.The chemical profiles of the essential oils from the 31 families were established.A total of 103 components were identified,with approximately 30 components found per family.Additionally,the antifungal and antibacterial activities were investigated,with significant variations found among families.The most abundant component was citral,which has previously been shown to possess antifungal activities.In addition,inhibition rates,EC50,and MIC values were measured,and the F7,G3,G4,and F9 families were found to manifest significantly stronger antifungal activity,with inhibition rates above 91%at a concentration of 250μL/L.The F7,G3,G4,and L24 families possessed strong antibacterial activity on gram-negative bacteria at a concentration of 50μL/mL.In summary,we assessed the chemical profiles of L.cubeba essential oil for different families and found that there were significant differences in essential oil components and antibacterial activities among families.Our results suggest that L.cubeba families can be further selected to improve their industrial applications and increase the quality of essential oils extracted from them.Xue Wang Ming Gao Liwen Wu Yunxiao Zhao Yangdong Wang Yicun Chen 2022Forestry Research2022,2,1:0
14Ruminal bacterial community is associated with the variations of total milk solid content in Holstein lactating cows显示文摘Total milk solid(TMS)content directly reflects the quality of milk.Rumen bacteria ferment dietary components,the process of which generates the precursors for the synthesis of milk solid,therefore,the variation in rumen bacterial community could be associated with milk solid in dairy cows.In this study,45 healthy mid-lactation Holstein dairy cows with the similar body weight,lactation stage,and milk yield were initially used for the selection of 10 cows with high TMS(HS)and 10 cows with low TMS(LS).All those animals were under the same feeding management,and the individual milk yield was recorded for 14 consecutive days before milk and rumen fluid were sampled.Rumen fluid was used to determine bacterial community by 16S rRNA gene sequencing technique.The HS cows had significantly greater feed intake and milk TMS,fat,protein content than LS cows(P<0.05).Among the volatile fatty acids(VFA),propionic acid and valeric acid concentrations were significantly greater in HS cows than those in LS cows(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the concentrations of acetate,butyrate,isobutyrate,valerate,and the total VFA(P>0.05),nor was the acetate-to-propionate ratio,pH value,ammonia nitrogen and microbial crude protein concentrations(P>0.05).Significant differences in the relative abundances of some bacterial genera were found between HS and LS cows.Spearman’s rank correlation analysis revealed that TMS content was correlated positively with the abundances of Ruminococcaceae UCG-014,Ruminococcaceae NK4A214 group,Prevotellaceae UCG-001,Butyrivibrio 2,Prevotellaceae UCG-003,Candidatus Saccharimonas,Ruminococcus 2,Lachnospiraceae XPB1014 group,probable genus 10,Eubacterium ventriosum group,but negatively correlated with Pyramidobacte.In addition,Ruminococcaceae UCG-014,Ruminococcus 2,Ruminococcaceae UCG001,probable genus 10 and Eubacterium ventriosum group might boost the total VFA production in the rumen.In conclusion,the dry matter intake of dairy cows and some special bacteria in rumen were significantly associated with TMS content,which suggests the potential function of rumen bacteria contributing to TMS content in dairy cows.Kaizhen Liu Yangdong Zhang Guoxin Huang Nan Zheng Shengguo Zhao Jiaqi Wang 2022Animal Nutrition2022,,2:0
