Opportunities and challenges of the Sponge City construction related to urban water issues in China显示文摘Waterlogging is one of the major water issues in most cities of China and directly restricts their urbanization processes. The construction of Sponge City is an effective approach to solving the urban water issues, particularly for the waterlogging. In this study, both the urban issues emerged at the stage of rapid urbanization in China and the demands as well as problems of Sponge City construction related with the water issues were investigated, and the opportunities and challenges for the Sponge City construction in the future were also proposed. It was found that the current stormwater management focused on the construction of gray infrastructures(e.g.,drainage network and water tank) based on the fast discharge idea, which was costly and hard to catch up with the rapid expansion of city and its impervious surface, while green infrastructures(e.g.,river,lake and wetland)were ignored. Moreover, the current construction of Sponge City was still limited to low impacted development(LID) approach which was concentrated on source control measures without consideration of the critical functions of surrounding landscapes(i.e.,mountain,river,wetland,forest,farmland and lake),while application of the integrated urban water system approach and its supported technologies including municipal engineering, urban hydrology, environmental science, social science and ecoscape were relatively weak and needed to be improved.Besides, the lack of special Sponge City plan and demonstration area was also a considerable problem. In this paper, some perspectives on Good Sponge City Construction were proposed such as the point that idea of urban plan and construction should conform to the integral and systematic view of sustainable urban development. Therefore, both the basic theoretical research and the basic infrastructure construction such as monitoring system, drainage facility and demonstration area should be strengthened, meanwhile, the reformation and innovation in the urban water management system and the education system should also be urgently performed. The study was expected to provide a deeper thinking for the current Sponge City construction in China and to give some of suggestions for the future directions to urban plan and construction,as well as urban hydrology discipline. | XIA Jun ZHANG YongYong XIONG LiHua HE Shan WANG LongFeng YU ZhongBo | 2017 | Science China Earth Sciences2017,60,4: | 65
A novel synthesis strategy to improve cycle stability of LiNio.8Mno.1Co0.1O2 at high cut-off voltages through core-shell structuring显示文摘Nickel-rich cathode materials have attracted considerable interest because of their high specific capacities, voltage ranges, and low cost. However, serious capacity attenuation and poor rate performance limit their application. This study proposes a novel strategy to improve the cycle stability of the nickel-rich LiNi0.sCo0.1Mn0.1O2(NCM811)layer material by designing core-shell LiNio.sCoo.1 Mno.102(CS-NCM811).CS-NCM811 is designed by the characteristic reaction between dimethylglyoxime(C4H8N2O2)and nickel ion to form Ni(C4H7N2O2)2-The CS-NCM811 is characterized with high nickel content in its core and high manganese content on its surface, leading to a high capacity and excellent cycle stability. The capacity retention of CS-NCM811 was 72.8%,much higher than that of NCM811(47.1%)after 500 cycles at a rate of 5 C.Not only is this method a no vel strategy to desig n high capacity cathode materials but also provides some new in sights into the cycle stability of nickel-rich layered cathode materials. | Kang Wu Qi Li Rongbin Dang Xin Deng Minmin Chen Yu Lin Lee Xiaoling Xiao Zhongbo Hu | 2019 | Nano Research2019,12,10: | 12
Can media exposure improve stock price efficiency in China and why?显示文摘The media in China has undergone extensive commercialization to become more market-driven over the last 35 years. Based on a sample of over two million newspaper articles, this study investigates whether the media in China has an incremental impact on stock price efficiency. We find that: as media coverage of a firm increases,(1) its stock price synchronicity decreases;(2)the probability of informed trading of its stock increases; and(3) the extent to which its stock price deviates from random walk decreases. Our interregional analysis over thirty-one provinces/regions within China reveals that the effects of the media on decreasing stock price synchronicity, increasing the probability of informed trading, and reducing stock price deviation from random walk are stronger in regions of weaker institutional development. Our findings suggest that a market-driven media can play the role of compensating for the underdeveloped governance institutions in transitional economies such as China. | Jeong-Bon Kim Zhongbo Yu Hao Zhang | 2016 | China Journal of Accounting Research2016,,2: | 8
Application of Bayesian approach to hydrological frequency analysis显示文摘An existing Bayesian flood frequency analysis method is applied to quantile estimation for Pearson type three (P-III) probability distribution. The method couples prior and sample information under the framework of Bayesian formula, and the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling approach is used to estimate posterior distributions of parameters. Different from the original sampling algorithm (i.e. the important sampling) used in the existing approach, we use the adaptive metropolis (AM) sampling technique to generate a large number of parameter sets from Bayesian parameter posterior distributions in this paper. Consequently, the sampling distributions for quantiles or the hydrological design values are constructed. The sampling distributions of quantiles are estimated as the Bayesian method can provide not only various kinds of point estimators for quantiles, e.g. the expectation estimator, but also quantitative evaluation on uncertainties of these point estimators. Therefore, the Bayesian method brings more useful information to hydrological frequency analysis. As an example, the flood extreme sample series at a gauge are used to demonstrate the procedure of application. | LIANG ZhongMin LI BinQuan YU ZhongBo CHANG Wen Juan | 2011 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2011,54,5: | 7
Rainfall-runoff simulation and flood forecasting for Huaihe Basin显示文摘The main purpose of this study was to forecast the inflow to Hongze Lake using the Xin'anjiang rainfall-runoff model. The upper area of Hongze Lake in the Huaihe Basin was divided into 23 sub-basins,including the surface of Hongze Lake. The influence of reservoirs and gates on flood forecasting was considered in a practical and simple way. With a one-day time step, the linear and non-linear Muskingum method was used for channel flood routing, and the least-square regression model was used for real-time correction in flood forecasting.Representative historical data were collected for the model calibration. The hydrological model parameters for each sub-basin were calibrated individually,so the parameters of the Xin'anjiang model were different for different sub-basins.This flood forecasting system was used in the real-time simulation of the large flood in 2005 and the results are satisfactory when compared with measured data from the flood. | Li Zhijia Wang Lili Bao Hongjun Song Yu Yu Zhongbo | 2008 | Water Science and Engineering2008,1,3: | 5
Kavalactone yangonin induces autophagy and sensitizes bladder cancer cells to flavokawain A and docetaxel via inhibition of the mTOR pathway显示文摘Consumption of kava(Piper methysticum Forst) has been linked to reduced cancer risk in the South Pacific Islands.Kavalactones are major bioactive components in kava root extracts, which have recently demonstrated anti-cancer activities. However, molecular mechanisms of kavalactones' anti-cancer action remain largely unknown. We have identified two kavalactones, yangonin and 5' 6'-dehydrokawain, as potent inducers of autophagic cell death in bladder cancer cells. The effect of yangonin inducing autophagy is associated with increased expression of beclin and ATG5.In addition, yangonin increases the expression of LKB1 and decreases the phosphorylation of Akt, PRAS40, rpS6,p70S6 K and 4E-BP1, leading to increased binding of 4E-BP1 to m7 GTP. The growth inhibitory effects of yangonin were attenuated in TSC1 or LKB1 knockout mouse embryonic fibroblasts, suggesting that TSC1 and LKB1 expression may contribute to optimal growth inhibition by yangonin. Furthermore, yangonin reduces the viability of bladder cancer cell lines derived from different stages of human bladder cancer, and acts synergistically with apoptosis-inducing agents such as docetaxel and flavokawain A. Our results support a novel anti-bladder cancer mechanism by yangonin and further studies are needed to assess the potential use of yangonin for bladder cancer prevention and | Zhongbo Liu U-Syn Ha Ke Yu Chunli Wu Noriko Yokoyama Xiaolin Zi | 2017 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2017,31,5: | 4
Integrated simulation of runoff and groundwater in forest wetland watersheds显示文摘A Distributed Forest Wetland Hydrologic Model(DFWHM) was constructed and used to examine water dynamics in the different climates of three different watersheds(a cold region,a sub-tropic region, and a large-scale watershed).A phenological index was used to represent the seasonal and species changes of the tree canopy while processes of snow packing, soil freezing, and snow and ice thawing were also included in the simulation. In the cold region, the simulated fall of the groundwater level in winter due to soil freezing and rise in spring due to snow and ice melting compare well with the observed data.Because the evapotranspiration and interaction of surface water and groundwater are included in the model, the modeled seasonal trend of the groundwater level in the sub-tropic region is in agreement with observations. The comparison between modeled and observed hydrographs indicates that the simulations in the large-scale watershed managed to capture the water dynamics in unsaturated and saturated zones. | Cheng Genwei Yu Zhongbo Li Changsheng Huang Yong | 2008 | Water Science and Engineering2008,1,3: | 2
