| 1 | Prediction of recent bank retreat processes at typical sections in the Jingjiang Reach显示文摘The Jingjiang Reach is experiencing continuous channel degradation owing to operation of the Three Gorges Project(TGP)in2003.Significant retreat processes at composite riverbanks have occurred at local sites of this reach,which may influence the stability of the river regime and the effect of existing river training works.Therefore,bank retreat plays a key role in fluvial processes of the Jingjiang Reach,and it is necessary to predict the long-term processes of bank retreat at typical sections in the reach.In this study,various factors influencing bank retreat in the Jingjiang Reach are investigated,based on bank erosion processes at four sections and the corresponding flow and sediment conditions.It is discovered that fluvial erosion intensity is a dominant factor in controlling the processes of bank retreat in the reach,although other factors,such as bank soil properties,can also influence bank retreat.The bankfull width at a section with severe bank erosion since 2002 is defined as being equal to the sum of the bankfull width in 2002 and the accumulated bank retreat distance after 2002.The magnitude of the bankfull width can be expressed as an exponential function of the previous 5-year average fluvial erosion intensity during flood seasons.The accumulated distances of bank retreat at four sections over the period 2002–2012 are predicted using the proposed empirical relationships,with the calculated bank retreat processes agreeing well with observed data. | XIA JunQiang ZONG QuanLi ZHANG Yi XU QuanXi LI XiaoJuan | 2014 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2014,57,8: | 20 |
| 2 | Degradation of H-acid in aqueous solution by microwave assisted wet air oxidation using Ni-loaded GAC as catalyst显示文摘A novel process, microwave assisted catalytic wet air oxidation(MW-CWO), was applied for the degradation of H-acid(1-amino-8-naphthol-3, 6-disulfonic acid) in aqueous solution. Ni-loaded granular activated carbon(GAC), prepared by immersion-calcination method, was used as catalyst. The results showed that the MW-CWO process was very effective for the degradation of H-acid in aqueous solution under atmospheric pressure with 87.4% TOC (total organic carbon) reduction in 20 min. Ni on GAC existed in the form of NiO as specified by XRD. Loss of Ni was significant in the initial stage, and then remained almost constant after 20 min reaction. | 4 | Photocatalytic remediation of γ-HCH contaminated soil induced by α-Fe_2O_3 and TiO_2显示文摘Heterogeneous photocatalytic degradation of γ-HCH on soil surfaces was carried out to evaluate the photocatalytic effectiveness of α-Fe 2O 3 and TiO 2 toward degrading γ-HCH on soil surfaces. After being spiked with γ-HCH, soil samples were loaded with α-Fe 2O 3 or TiO 2 and exposed to UV-light irradiation. Different catalyst loads, 0%, 2%, 5%, 7%, and 10% (wt.)α-Fe 2O 3; 0%, 0.5%, 1%, 2:(wt.)TiO 2, were tested for up to 7 d irradiation. The effects of soil thickness, acidity, and humic substances were also investigated. The obtained results indicated that the γ-HCH photodegradation follows the pseudo-first-order kinetics. The addition of α-Fe 2O 3 or TiO 2 accelerates the photodegradation of γ-HCH, while the photodegradation rate decreases when the content of α-Fe 2O 3 exceeds 7%(wt.). The degradation rate increases with the soil pH value. Humic substances inhibit the photocatalytic degradation of γ-HCH. | 5 | The response of electron transport mediated by active NADPH dehydrogenase complexes to heat stress in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis 6803显示文摘The electron-transport machinery in photosynthetic membranes is known to be very sensitive to heat. In this study, the rate of electron transport (ETR) driven by photosystem I (PSI) and photosystem II (PSII) during heat stress in the wild-type Synechocystis sp. strain PCC 6803 (WT) and its ndh gene inactiva-tion mutants △ndhB (M55) and △ndhD1/ndhD2 (D1/D2) was simultaneously assessed by using the novel Dual-PAM-100 measuring system. The rate of electron transport driven by the photosystems (ETRPSs) in the WT, M55, and D1/D2 cells incubated at 30℃ and at 55℃ for 10 min was compared. Incubation at 55 ℃ for 10 min significantly inhibited PSII-driven ETR (ETRPSII) in the WT, M55 and D1/D2 cells, and the ex-tent of inhibition in both the M55 and D1/D2 cells was greater than that in the WT cells. Further, PSI-driven ETR (ETRPSI) was stimulated in both the WT and D1/D2 cells, and this rate was increased to a greater extent in the D1/D2 than in the WT cells. However, ETRPSI was considerably inhibited in the M55 cells. Analysis of the effect of heat stress on ETRPSs with regard to the alterations in the 2 active NDH-1 complexes in the WT, M55, and D1/D2 cells indicated that the active NDH-1 supercomplex and medi-umcomplex are essential for alleviating the heat-induced inhibition of ETRPSII and for accelerating the heat-induced stimulation of ETRPSI, respectively. | 6 | Inhibitive effect on apoptosis in splenic lymphocytes of mice pretreated with Lingzhi (GanodermaLucidum) spores显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate how the pretreatment of mice with Ganoderma spores affected the apoptosis of their splenic lymphocytes induced by dexamethasone after 19 days treatment.METHODS: Sixty Kunming mice were randomly divided into six groups: blank control groupdrenched with normal saline; a drug control group drenched with 150 mg/mL Ganoderma spores; a model group treated with saline; a low dose group with50 mg/mL Ganoderma spores; a moderate dose group with 100 mg/mL Ganoderma spores; and a high dose group with 150 mg/mL Ganoderma spores. The effect of Ganoderma spores on apoptosis in spleen lymphocytes was analyzed. All groups were treated for 19 days. On day 20, the model group and the 3 treatment groups were intraperitoneally injected dexamethasone to induce apoptosis. Splenic index and apoptosis indes were employed to measure cell apoptosis.RESULTS: The results showed that Ganoderma spores reduced the splenic index to different degrees in each group and the best effect was seen in the high dose group(P<0.05).Terminal dexynucleotidyl transferase(TdT)-mediated 2'-Deoxyuridine5'-Triphosphate nick end labeling staining revealed that the apoptotic index in all groups administered Ganoderma spores differed significantly from the model group, and a dose-response was observed.Flow cytometric analysis indicated that spleen lymphocyte apoptosis in the model group was extensive. Each dose of Ganoderma spores inhibited dexamethasone-induced apoptosis in spleen lymphocytes, and a dose-response was observed as well. | 7 | Uncertainty analysis for integrated water system simulations using GLUE with different acceptability thresholds显示文摘Integrated water quantity and quality simulations have become a popular tool in investigations on global water crisis.For integrated and complex models,conventional uncertainty estimations focus on the uncertainties of individual modules,e.g.,module parameters and structures,and do not consider the uncertainties propagated from interconnected modules.Therefore,this study investigated all the uncertainties of integrated water system simulations using the GLUE(i.e.,generalized likelihood uncertainty estimation)method,including uncertainties associated with individual modules,propagated uncertainties associated with interconnected modules,and their combinations.The changes in both acceptability thresholds of GLUE and the uncertainty estimation results were also investigated for different fixed percentages of total number of iterations(100000).Water quantity and quality variables(i.e.,runoff and ammonium nitrogen)were selected for the case study.The results showed that module uncertainty did not affect the runoff simulation performance,but remarkably weakened the water quality responses as the fixed percentage increased during calibration and validation periods.The propagated uncertainty from hydrological modules could not be ignored for water quality simulations,particularly during validation.The combination of module and propagated uncertainties further weakened the water quality simulation performance.The uncertainty intervals became wider owing to an increase in the fixed percentages and introduction of more uncertainty sources.Moreover,the acceptability threshold had a negative nonlinear relationship with the fixed percentage.The fixed percentages(20.0%-30.0%)were proposed as the acceptability thresholds owing to the satisfactory simulation performance and noticeably reduced uncertainty intervals they produced.This study provided methodological foundations for estimating multiple uncertainty sources of integrated water system models. | ZHANG YongYong XIA Jun SHAO QuanXi LI Lu YEN Haw ZHAI XiaoYan ZHAO TongTieGang LIN KaiRong | 2021 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2021,64,8: | 3 |

| 12 | CHARACTERIZATION AND CAUSATION OF RUNOFF AND SEDIMENT VARIATION IN THE JIALINGJIANG RIVER BASIN显示文摘The Jialingjiang River basin is one of the main sediment contributing areas in the upper reaches of the Changjiang River. Great changes have taken place in the runoff and sediment discharge in recent years. Comparing the data of 1991-2003 with the data of 1954-1990, the annual runoff of the Jialingjiang River basin decreased by 23 %, and the suspended sediment transport decreased by 74% or 105 million tons. The main factors affecting the reduction include a decrease in rainfall, sediment detention of hydraulic structures, soil and water conservation activities, sedimentation and sand dredging in the river channel. Thorough investigation and analysis of the contribution of each factor to the sediment decrease at Beibei Station was determined for the first time. The following are the contributing percentages for each factor: a decrease in runoff accounted for 32.9%; soil and water conservation measures accounted for 16.4%; sediment detention of hydraulic structures accounted for 30.5%; sedimentation, river channel sand dredging, and other factors accounted for 20.2%. | 18 | Enhanced photocatalytic activity of nanotube-like titania by sulfuric acid treatment显示文摘The TiO 2 nanotube sample was prepared via a NaOH solution in a Teflon vessel at 150℃. The as-prepared nanotubes were then treated with H 2SO 4 solutions. The TiO 2 nanotube has a crystalline structure with open-ended and multiwall morphologies. The TiO 2 nanotubes before and after surface acid treatment were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and UV-VIS dispersive energy spectrophotometry(DRS). The photocatalytic activity of the samples was evaluated by photocatalytic degradation of acid orange II in aqueous solutions. It was found that the order of photocatalytic activity was as follows: TiO 2 nanotubes treated with 1.0 mol/L H 2SO 4 solution (TiO 2(1.0M H 2SO 4) nanotubes)>TiO 2 nanotubes treated with 0.2 mol/L H 2SO 4 solution (TiO 2(0.2M H 2SO 4) nanotubes)>TiO 2 nanotubes >TiO 2 powder. This was attributed to the fact that TiO 2 nanotubes treated with H 2SO 4 was composed of smaller particles and had higher specific surface areas. Furthermore, the smaller TiO 2 particles were beneficial to the transfer and separation of photo-generated electrons and holes in the inner of and on the surface of TiO 2 particles and reduced the recombination of photo-generated electrons and holes.
