Nutritional value of a partially defatted and a highly defatted black soldier fly larvae (Hermetia illucens L.) meal for broiler chickens: apparent nutrient digestibility, apparent metabolizable energy and apparent ileal amino acid digestibility显示文摘Background: The study aimed to determine the apparent total tract digestibility coefficients(ATTDC) of nutrients, the apparent metabolizable energy(AME and AMEn) and the amino acid(AA) apparent ileal digestibility coefficients(AIDC)of a partially defatted(BSFp) and a highly defatted(BSFh) black soldier fly larvae meal. The experimental diets were: a basal diet and two diets prepared by substituting 250 g/kg(w/w) of the basal diet with BSFp or BSFh, respectively. Results: Significant differences were found between BSFp and BSFh meals for ATTDC of the nutrients: BSFp resulted more digestible than BSFh, except for ATTDC of CP which did not differed between meals, while a statistical trend was observed for ATTDC of DM and EE. The AME and AMEn values were significantly(P < 0.05) different between the two BSF meals, with higher levels for BSFp(16.25 and 14.87 MJ/kg DM, respectively). The AIDC of the AA in BSFp ranged from 0.44 to 0.92, while in BSFh they ranged from 0.45 to 0.99. No significant differences were observed for the AA digestibility(0.77 and 0.80 for BSFp and BSFh, respectively), except for glutamic acid, proline and serine that were more digestible in the BSFh meal(P < 0.05).Conclusions: Defatted BSF meals can be considered as an excellent source of AME and digestible AA for broilers with a better efficient nutrient digestion. These considerations suggested the effective utilization of defatted BSF larvae meal in poultry feed formulation.Achille Schiavone Michele De Marco Silvia Martínez Sihem Dabbou Manuela Renna Josefa Madrid Fuensanta Hernandez Luca Rotolo Pierluca Costa Francesco Gai Laura Gasco 2017Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2017,8,4:27
Feasibility and safety of autologous bone marrow mononuclear cell transplantation in patients with advanced chronic liver disease显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the safety and feasibility of bone marrow cell (BMC) transplantation in patients with chronic liver disease on the waiting list for liver transplantation. METHODS: Ten patients (eight males) with chronic liver disease were enrolled to receive infusion of autologous bone marrow-derived cells. Seven patients were classified as Child-Pugh B and three as Child-Pugh C. Baseline assessment included complete clinical and laboratory evaluation and abdominal MRI. Approximately 50 ml of bone marrow aspirate was prepared by centrifugation in a ficoll-hypaque gradient. At least of 100 millions of mononuclear-enriched BMCs were infused into the hepatic artery using the routine technique for arterial chemoembolization for liver tumors. Patients were followed up for adverse events up to 4 mo. RESULTS: The median age of the patients was 52 years (range 24-70 years). All patients were discharged 48 h after BMC infusion. Two patients complained ofmild pain at the bone marrow needle puncture site. No other complications or specific side effects related to the procedure were observed. Bilirubin levels were lower at 1 (2.19 ± 0.9) and 4 mo (2.10 ± 1.0) after cell transplantation that baseline levels (2.78 ± 1.2). Albumin levels 4 mo after BMC infusion (3.73 ± 0.5) were higher than baseline levels (3.47 ± 0.5). International normalized ratio (INR) decreased from 1.48 (SD = 0.23) to 1.43 (SD = 0.23) one month after cell transplantation. CONCLUSION: BMC infusion into hepatic artery of patients with advanced chronic liver disease is safe and feasible. In addition, a decrease in mean serum bilirubin and INR levels and an increase in albumin levels are observed. Our data warrant further studies in order to evaluate the effect of BMC transplantation in patients with advanced chronic liver disease.Andre Castro lyra Milena Botelho Pereira Soares luiz Flavio Maia da Silva Marcos Fraga Fortes André Goyanna Pinheiro Silva Augusto César de Andrade Mota Sheilla A Oliveira Eduardo lorens Braga Wilson Andrade de Carvalho Bernd Genser Ricardo Ribeiro dos Santos luiz Guilherme Costa lyra 2007World Journal of Gastroenterology2007,13,7:21
Evaluation of latent links between irritable bowel syndrome and sleep quality显示文摘AIM:To examine the links between quality of sleep and the severity of intestinal symptoms in irritable bow-el syndrome(IBS).METHODS:One hundred and forty-two outpatients(110female,32 male)who met the Rome Ⅲ criteria for IBS with no psychiatric comorbidity were consecutively en-rolled in this study.Data on age, body mass index(BMI),and a set of life-habit variables were recorded, and IBS symptoms and sleep quality were evaluated using the questionnaires IBS Symptom Severity Score(IBS-SSS)and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI).The associa-tion between severity of IBS and sleep disturbances was evaluated by comparing the global IBS-SSS and PSQI score(Pearson's correlation and Fisher's exact test)and then analyzing the individual items of the IBS-SSS and PSQI questionnaires by a unitary bowel-sleep model based on item response theory(IRT).RESULTS:IBS-SSS ranged from mild to severe(120-470).The global PSQI score ranged from 1 to 17(median 5),and 60 patients were found to be poor sleepers(PSQI>5).The correlation between the global IBS-SSS and PSQI score indicated a weak association(r=0.2 and 95% CI:-0.03 to 0.35,P<0.05),which becomes stronger using our unitary model.Indeed, the IBS and sleep disturbances severities, estimated as latent variables, resulted significantly high intra-subject cor-relation(posterior mean of r=0.45 and 95% CI:0.17 to 0.70,P<0.05).Moreover,the correlations between patient features(age, sex,BMI,daily coffee and alcohol intake)and IBS and sleep disturbances were also ana-lyzed through our unitary model.Age was a signif icant regressor, with patients≤50 years old showing more severe bowel disturbances(posterior mean=-0.38,P<0.05)and less severe sleep disturbances(posterior mean=0.49,P<0.05)than older patients.Higher daily coffee intake was correlated with a lower sever-ity of bowel disturbances(posterior mean=-0.31,P<0.05).Sex(female)and daily alcohol intake(modest)were correlated with less severe sleep disturbances.CONCLUSION:The unitary bowel-sleep model based on IRT revealed a strong positive correlation between the severity of IBS symptoms and sleep disturbances.Massimo Bellini Angelo Gemignani Dario Gambaccini Simona Toti Danilo Menicucci Cristina Stasi Francesco Costa Maria Gloria Mumolo Angelo Ricchiuti Remo Bedini Nicola de Bortoli Santino Marchi 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,46:17
How many cases of laryngopharyngeal reflux suspected by laryngoscopy are gastroesophageal reflux disease-related?显示文摘AIM:To investigate the prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD) in patients with a laryngoscopic diagnosis of laryngopharyngeal reflux(LPR).METHODS:Between May 2011 and October 2011,41 consecutive patients with laryngopharyngeal symptoms(LPS) and laryngoscopic diagnosis of LPR were empirically treated with proton pump inhibitors(PPIs) for at least 8 wk,and the therapeutic outcome was assessed through validated questionnaires(GERD impact scale,GIS;visual analogue scale,VAS).LPR diagnosis was performed by ear, nose and throat specialists using the reflux finding score(RFS) and reflux symptom index(RSI).After a 16-d wash-out from PPIs,all patients underwent an upper endoscopy, stationary esophageal manometry,24-h multichannel intraluminal impedance and pH(MII-pH) esophageal monitoring.A positive correlation between LPR diagnosis and GERD was supposed based on the presence of esophagitis(ERD),pathological acid exposure time(AET) in the absence of esophageal erosions(NERD),and a positive correlation between symptoms and refluxes(hypersensitive esophagus,HE).RESULTS:The male/female ratio was 0.52(14/27),the mean age ± SD was 51.5 ± 12.7 years, and the mean body mass index was 25.7 ± 3.4 kg/m 2.All subjects reported one or more LPS.Twenty-five out of 41 patients also had typical GERD symptoms(heartburn and/or regurgitation). The most frequent laryngoscopic findings were posterior laryngeal hyperemia(38/41),linear indentation in the medial edge of the vocal fold(31/41),vocal fold nodules(6/41) and diffuse infraglottic oedema(25/41).The GIS analysis showed that 10/41 patients reported symptom relief with PPI therapy(P < 0.05);conversely,23/41 did not report any clinical improvement. At the same time, the VAS analysis showed a significant reduction in typical GERD symptoms after PPI therapy(P < 0.001).A significant reduction in LPS symptoms. On the other hand, such result was not recorded for LPS.Esophagitis was detected in 2/41 patients, and ineffective esophageal motility was found in 3/41 patients. The MII-pH analysis showed an abnormal AET in 5/41 patients(2 ERD and 3 NERD);11/41 patients had a normal AET and a positive association between symptoms and refluxes(HE),and 25/41 patients had a normal AET and a negative association between symptoms and refluxes(no GERD patients). It is noteworthy that HE patients had a positive association with typical GERD-related symptoms.Gas refluxes were found more frequently in patients with globus(29.7 ± 3.6) and hoarseness(21.5 ± 7.4) than in patients with heartburn or regurgitation(7.8 ± 6.2).Gas refluxes were positively associated with extraesophageal symptoms(P < 0.05).Overall,no differences were found among the three groups of patients in terms of the frequency of laryngeal signs. The proximal reflux was abnormal in patients with ERD/NERD only. The differences observed by means of MII-pH analysis among the three subgroups of patients(ERD/NERD,HE,no GERD) were not demonstrated with the RSI and RFS.Moreover, only the number of gas refluxes was found to have a significant association with the RFS(P = 0.028 andP = 0.026,nominal and numerical correlation,respectively).CONCLUSION:MII-pH analysis confirmed GERD diagnosis in less than 40% of patients with previous diagnosis of LPR,most likely because of the low specificity of the laryngoscopic findings.Nicola de Bortoli Andrea Nacci Edoardo Savarino Irene Martinucci Massimo Bellini Bruno Fattori Linda Ceccarelli Francesco Costa Maria Gloria Mumolo Angelo Ricchiuti Vincenzo Savarino Stefano Berrettini Santino Marchi 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,32:11

Use of butyrate or glutamine in enema solution reduces inflammation and fibrosis in experimental diversion colitis显示文摘AIM:To investigate whether butyrate or glutamine enemas could diminish inflammation in experimental diversion colitis.METHODS:Wistar specific pathogen-free rats were submitted to a Hartmann's end colostomy and treated with enemas containing glutamine, butyrate,or saline.Enemas were administered twice a week in the excluded segment of the colon from 4 to 12 wk after the surgical procedure.Follow-up colonoscopy was performed every 4 wk for 12 wk.The effect of treatment was evaluated using video-endoscopic and histologic scores and measuring interleukin-1β,tumor necrosis factor-alpha,and transforming growth factor beta production in organ cultures by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay.RESULTS:Colonoscopies of the diverted segment showed mucosa with hyperemia, increased number of vessels, bleeding and mucus discharge.Treatment with either glutamine or butyrate induced significant reductions in both colonoscopic(P < 0.02) and histological scores(P < 0.01) and restored the densities of collagen fibers in tissue(P = 0.015;P = 0.001),the number of goblet cells(P = 0.021;P = 0.029),and the rate of apoptosis within the epithelium(P = 0.043;P = 0.011) to normal values. The high levels of cytokines in colon explants from rats with diversion colitis significantly decreased to normal values after treatment with butyrate or glutamine.CONCLUSION:The improvement of experimental diversion colitis following glutamine or butyrate enemas highlights the importance of specific luminal nutrients in the homeostasis of the colonic mucosa and supports their utilization for the treatment of human diversion colitis.Rodrigo Goulart Pacheco Christiano Costa Esposito Lucas CM Müller Morgana TL Castelo-Branco Leonardo Pereira Quintella Vera Lucia A Chagas Heitor Siffert P de Souza Alberto Schanaider 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,32:9
Mitomycin C in pterygium treatment显示文摘Pterygium is a benign lesion usually growing from the nasal side of the conjunctiva onto the cornea. Most cases of pterygium does not cause problem or requires specific treatment. The exact cause of pterygium is not clear yet,but some factors are pointed as causes, being the most important the long-term ultraviolet ray exposure.Pterygium surgery is usually considered when there are symptoms that do not respond to conservative treatment.Recurrence is the main complication of the surgery, and much has been done to avoid it.Mitomycin C(MMC) has been used as a fibroblast proliferation inhibitor during the surgery to reduce the chance of recurrence of the pterygium. This review describes the use of MMC as an adjunctive, the optimal dosage, the duration of administration of MMC and possible complications, when used during, after and before the surgery. Most studies suggest that increased exposure(dose or duration) of MMC is associated with a lower recurrence, but with higher risks of complications.Thiago Goncalves dos Santos Martins Ana Luiza Fontes de A zevedo Costa Milton Ruiz Alves Roger Chammas Paulo Schor 2016International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2016,9,3:8
Cytomegalovirus frequency in neonatal intrahepatic cholestasis determined by serology, histology, immunohistochemistry and PCR显示文摘AIM: To determine cytomegalovirus (CMV) frequency in neonatal intrahepatic cholestasis by serology, histological revision (searching for cytomegalic cells), immunohistochemistry, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and to verify the relationships among these methods.METHODS: The study comprised 101 non-consecutive infants submitted for hepatic biopsy between March 1982 and December 2005. Serological results were obtained from the patient's f iles and the other methods were performed on paraffin-embedded liver samples from hepatic biopsies. The following statistical measures were calculated: frequency, sensibility, specif ic positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy.RESULTS: The frequencies of positive results were as follows: serology, 7/64 (11%); histological revision, 0/84; immunohistochemistry, 1/44 (2%), and PCR, 6/77 (8%). Only one patient had positive immunohistochemical fi ndings and a positive PCR. The following statistical measures were calculated between PCR and serology: sensitivity, 33.3%; specificity, 88.89%; positive predictive value, 28.57%; negative predictive value, 90.91%; and accuracy, 82.35%. CONCLUSION: The frequency of positive CMV varied among the tests. Serology presented the highest positive frequency. When compared to PCR, the sensitivity and positive predictive value of serology were low.Maria Angela Bellomo-Brandao Paula D Andrade Sandra CB Costa Cecilia AF Escanhoela Jose Vassallo Gilda Porta Adriana MA De Tommaso Gabriel Hessel 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,27:8

Short-term complementary and alternative medicine on quality of life in women with fibromyalgia显示文摘BACKGROUND:Fibromyalgia(FMS)is a syndrome characterized by chronic widespread musculoskeletal pain, whose etiology is not completely understood.Different therapeutic approaches have been used with inconsistent results. This observation does not invalidate the continued search for alternative treatments aimed at improving quality of life(Qo L)in FMS.OBJECTIVE:This study compared three classical traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)therapies:acupuncture(AC),electroacupuncture(EAC)and moxibustion(MX)in the management of pain and promotion of Qo L in FMS patients.DESIGN,SETTING,PARTICIPANTS AND INTERVENTIONS:A preliminary,group-assigned,comparative study enrolled 30 women, mean age(46.90±9.24)years(range 20–60 years),who met the 1990 American College of Rheumatology criteria for FMS diagnosis and a pain-pressure threshold(PPT)< 4 kg/cm^2.The study was conducted in a teaching tertiary-care medical institution from May 2010 through April 2012.AC,EAC and MX were delivered for 30 min, once a week, for 8 weeks, bilaterally at Neiguan(PC6),Hegu(LI4),Yanglingquan(GB34),Sanyinjiao(SP6)and Taichong(LR3)acupoints.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Each week, immediately before treatment and after treatment, subjects were tested for PPTs,Wong-Baker Faces Pain Scale(WBFPS;for pain intensity)and Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short Form Health Survey(SF-36:for Qo L).RESULTS:There was no signifi cant improvement in pain or reduction of tender points in any of the groups studied,at the end of the 8th session.Signifi cant improvement of Qo L was perceived in vitality(after AC treatment)and in mental health(after EAC and MX treatments).CONCLUSION:TCM therapies(AC,EAC and MX)promoted an improvement in the Qo L in two areas(vitality and mental health)in FMS women.Further large-scale clinical trials are required to confi rm this effect.Paulo Araujo Dias Andre Brito Bastos Guimaraes Andrea de Oliveira Albuquerque Karoline Lucas de Oliveira Maria Luzete Costa Cavalcante Sergio Botelho Guimaraes 2016Journal of Integrative Medicine2016,14,1:7
Bone marrow-derived monocyte infusion improves hepatic fibrosis by decreasing osteopontin,TGF-β1,IL-13 and oxidative stress显示文摘AIM To evaluate the therapeutic effects of bone marrowderived CD11b+CD14+ monocytes in a murine model of chronic liver damage. METHODS Chronic liver damage was induced in C57BL/6 mice by administration of carbon tetrachloride and ethanol for 6 mo. Bone marrow-derived monocytes isolated by immunomagnetic separation were used for therapy. The cell transplantation effects were evaluated by morphometry, biochemical assessment, immunohistochemistry and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS CD11b+CD14+ monocyte therapy significantly reduced liver fibrosis and increased hepatic glutathione levels. Levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor-α,interleukin(IL)-6 and IL-1β,in addition to pro-fibrotic factors, such as IL-13,transforming growth factor-β1 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 also decreased, while IL-10 and matrix metalloproteinase-9 increased in the monocytetreated group. CD11b+CD14+ monocyte transplantation caused significant changes in the hepatic expression of α-smooth muscle actin and osteopontin. CONCLUSION Monocyte therapy is capable of bringing about improvement of liver fibrosis by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation,as well as increasing antifibrogenic factors.Veruska Cintia Alexandrino de Souza Thiago Almeida Pereira Valéria Wanderley Teixeira Helotonio Carvalho Maria Carolina Accioly Brelaz de Castro Carolline Guimaraes D’assuncao Andreia Ferreira de Barros Camila Lima Carvalho Virgínia Maria Barros de Lorena Vláudia Maria Assis Costa Alvaro Aguiar Coelho Teixeira Regina Celia Bressan Queiroz Figueiredo Sheilla Andrade de Oliveira 2017World Journal of Gastroenterology2017,23,28:6
Effect of silymarin on biochemical indicators in patients with liver disease: systematic review with meta-analysis显示文摘AIM To evaluate the effect of silymarin on the serum levels of alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST) and gamma glutamyl transpeptidase(γGT) in patients with liver diseases. METHODS A systematic review with meta-analysis of ramdomized and controlled clinical trials was performed, evaluating the effects of sylimarin in patients with hepatic diseases, published by January 31,2016. Clinical trials were sought on the basis of The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials in the Cochrane Library,Pub Med/Medline,Scopus,Web of Science,Lilacs and Clinical Trials. The trials with adult and elderly patients of both sexes, with Liver Diseases who took oral silymarin supplementation,as extract or isolated,as well as Silymarin combined with other nutrients, were included. The trials should provide information about the intervention, such as dosages and detailing of the product used, besides the mean and standard deviation of serum levels of ALT,AST and γGT of the baseline and at the end of the intervention.RESULTS An amount of 10904 publications were identified. From those, only 17 were included in the systematic review and 6 in the meta-analysis,according to the used selection criteria. In this meta-analysis,the results indicated a reduction of 0.26 IU/m L(95%CI:-0.46-0.07,P = 0.007) at the level of ALT and 0.53 IU/m L(95%CI:-0.74-0.32,P = 0.000) at the serum levels of AST after using the silymarin, both, statistically significant, but with no clinical relevance. There was no significant change in the γGT levels. Subgroup analyzes were also performed for the biochemical markers in relation to the type of intervention, whether silymarin isolated or associated with other nutrients and the time of intervention(whether ≥ 6 mo or < 6 mo). Significant differences were not found. The evaluated studies presented a high degree of heterogeneity and low methodological quality in the carried out analysis. CONCLUSION Silymarin minimally reduced, but without clinical relevance, the serum levels of ALT and AST. It is necessary to carry out studies with more appropriate methodological designs.Camila Ribeiro de Avelar Emile Miranda Pereira Priscila Ribas de Farias Costa Rosangela Passos de Jesus Lucivalda Pereira Magalhaes de Oliveira 2017World Journal of Gastroenterology2017,23,27:5
Evaluation of functional, autonomic and inflammatory outcomes in children with asthma显示文摘Asthma is common in childhood. This respiratory disease is characterized by persistent inflammation of the airways even when the child is not in thethroes of an attack. Chronic inflammation is caused by an imbalance between pro-inflammatory and antiinflammatory mechanisms as well as autonomic dysfunction, which plays an important role in the pathogenesis and control of this condition. The impact of these physiopathological aspects leads to inactivity and a sedentary lifestyle, which exerts an influence on functional capacity and control of the disease. The main objective of non-pharmacological therapy is the clinical control of asthma and the minimization of airway obstruction and hyperinflation during an attack. These factors can be controlled with noninvasive ventilation. The aim or the present review was to describe important neural, inflammatory and functional mechanisms that affect children with asthma.Evelim Leal de Freitas Dantas Gomes Dirceu Costa 2015World Journal of Clinical Cases2015,3,3:5
Evaluation of Physicochemical,Microbiological and Sensory Stability of Frozen Stored Vacuum-Packed Lamb Meat显示文摘Nowadays, lamb meat represents only 7%of all meat produced in the world. In recent years the demand for standardized lamb meat cuts has been considered of great importance and the marketing occurs predominantly in the form of frozen cuts.Herewith, the main of this work was to evaluate the stability and safety of lamb meat during frozen storage.Meats were vacuum packed in high barrier multilayer plastic films and stored during 12 mon at(-18±1)oC.The meat stability was assessed by physical and chemical(lipid oxidation, objective color,pH value, cooking losses and instrumental texture),microbiological(total count of psychrotrophic, coliform count at 45°C,coagulase-positive staphylococci and the presence of Salmonella)and sensory analysis(acceptance test and visual evaluation). The vacuum packed lamb meat remained stable as to most physical and chemical indexes.Microbiological indexes showed good stability throughout the storage period according to Brazilian legislation standards to pathogenic microorganisms.Although a significant reduction in tenderness(shear force increase from 3 to 8 kg),it showed a good sensorial acceptance for all attributes tested, including texture, with scores of around 7(like moderately)during the 12 mon of storage. Therefore,it can be concluded that, under the conditions applied in this study, lamb meat presents a shelf life of at least 12 mon when stored at-18°C.Rafaella de Paula Paseto Fernandes Maria Teresa de Alvarenga Freire Celso da Costa Carrer Marco Antonio Trindade 2013Journal of Integrative Agriculture2013,12,11:4
Nephrotoxicity in cancer treatment:An overview显示文摘Anticancer drug nephrotoxicity is an important and increasing adverse drug event that limits the efficacy of cancer treatment. The kidney is an important elimination pathway for many antineoplastic drugs and their metabolites, which occurs by glomerular filtration and tubular secretion.Chemotherapeutic agents, both conventional cytotoxic agents and molecularly targeted agents, can affect any segment of the nephron including its microvasculature, leading to many clinical manifestations such as proteinuria, hypertension, electrolyte disturbances, glomerulopathy, acute and chronic interstitial nephritis, acute kidney injury and at times chronic kidney disease. The clinician should be alert to recognize several factors that may maximize renal dysfunction and contribute to the increased incidence of nephrotoxicity associated with these drugs, such as intravascular volume depletion, the associated use of nonchemotherapeutic nephrotoxic drugs(analgesics, antibiotics, proton pump inhibitors, and bonetargeted therapies),radiographic ionic contrast media or radiation therapy, urinary tract obstruction, and intrinsic renal disease.Identification of patients at higher risk for nephrotoxicity may allow the prevention or at least reduction in the development and severity of this adverse effect. Therefore, the aim of this brief review is to provide currently available evidences on oncologic drug-related nephrotoxicity.Maria Luísa Cordeiro Santos Breno Bittencourt de Brito Filipe Antonio FranÇa da Silva Anelise Costa dos Santos Botelho Fabrício Freire de Melo 2020World Journal of Clinical Oncology2020,11,4:4
Intestinal anti-inflammatory activity of Ground Cherry(Physalis angulata L.)standardized CO2 phytopharmaceutical preparation显示文摘AIM To investigate the effects of Ground Cherry(Physalis angulata L.)standardized supercritical CO_2 extract in trinitrobenzenesulphonic acid(TNBS)model of rat intestinal inflammation.METHODS The animals were divided into groups that received vehicle or P.angulata extract(PACO_2)orally at the doses 25,50 and 100 mg/kg daily by 5 d before TNBS damage.Protective effects of PACO_2 were assessed by macroscopic analysis, biochemical determinations of the levels of myeloperoxidase(MPO),alkaline phosphatase(ALP),glutathione and cytokines(such as INF-γ,IL-1β,IL-6,IL-10 and TNF-α),gene expression evaluation(including Hsp70,heparanase,NF-κB,mitogenactivated protein kinases(Mapk)1,3,6 and 9,and the mucins genes Muc 1,2,3 and 4)and histopathological studies using optical, and electronic(transmission and scanning)microscopy.RESULTS PACO2 extract promoted a significant reduction in MPO and ALP activities, reducing oxidative stress and neutrophil infiltration. These effects were accompanied by significant reduction of colonic levels of IFN-γand IL-6 and down-regulation of heparanase,Hsp70,Mapk3,Mapk9,Muc1 and Muc2 genes expression when compared with TNBS-control animals. In addition, protective effects were also evidenced by reduced neutrophil infiltration, recovery of cell architecture and replacement of mucin by histopathological and ultrastructural analysis.CONCLUSION Physalis angulata supercritical CO2 extract is an intestinal anti-inflammatory product that modulates oxidative stress, immune response and expression of inflammatory mediators, with potentially utility for treating inflammatory bowel disease.luiz domingues almeida junior ana elisa valencise quaglio celso acácio rodrigues de almeida costa Luiz Claudio Di Stasi 2017World Journal of Gastroenterology2017,23,24:4
Endoscopic management and prevention of migrated esophageal stents显示文摘The use of self-expandable metallic stents has increased recently to palliate inoperable esophageal neoplasia and also in the management of benign strictures. Migration is one of the most common complications after stent placement and the endoscopist should be able to recognize and manage this situation. Several techniques for managing migrated stents have been described, as well as new techniques for preventing stent migration. Most stents have a 'lasso' at the upper flange which facilitates stent repositioning or removal. An overtube, endoloop and large polypectomy snare may be useful for the retrieval of stents migrated into the stomach. External fixation of the stent with Shim's technique is efficient in preventing stent migration. Suturing the stent to the esophageal wall, new stent designs with larger flanges and double-layered stents are promising techniques to prevent stent migration but they warrant validation in a larger cohort of patients.Bruno da Costa Martins Felipe Alves Retes Bruno Frederico Medrado Marcelo Simas de Lima Caterina Maria Pia Simione Pennacchi Fabio Shiguehissa Kawaguti Adriana Vaz Safatle-Ribeiro Ricardo Sato Uemura Fauze Maluf-Filho 2014World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2014,6,2:3
Exercise manual for liver disease patients显示文摘AIM: To increase inspiratory muscle strength and improve the quality of life of candidates for liver transplantation.METHODS: Twenty-three candidates for liver transplantation participated in the control group and 14 made up the intervention group. The control group consisted of 18 men and 5 women, body mass index(BMI) 27.3 ± 4.5 kg/m2 and Model for End-Stage Liver Disease(MELD) 18.2 ± 6.1. The intervention group consisted of 11 men and 3 women, BMI 28.6 ± 5.4 kg/m2 and MELD 18 ± 4.5. The presence or absence of ascites was identified in the first patient evaluation and after three months. We evaluated maximal inspiratory pressure(MIP) and maximal expiratory pressure, spirometry, root mean square(RMS) of diaphragm and rectus abdominis, and the quality of life. The exercises were performed daily by patients at home for three months and were supervised at distance monthly. The manual consisted of diaphragmatic breathing exercises, diaphragmatic isometric exercise, Threshold IMT®, lifting upper limbs with a bat and strengthening the abdomen. RESULTS: There was significant difference(P = 0.01) between the first(initial) and the third month(final) MIP in the control group and in the intervention group, but there was no difference(P = 0.45) between the groups. The RMS of the diaphragm was lower(P = 0.001) and the functional capacity was higher(P = 0.006) in the intervention group compared to the control. The general health and mental health domains received higher scores after three months in the control group(P = 0.01) and the intervention group(P = 0.004), but there was no significant difference between them. The comparison between the presence of initial ascites with the presence of ascites was performed after three months in the control group(P = 0.083) and intervention group(P = 0.31). There was no significant difference, in relation to the presence of ascites after three months between groups(P = 0.21). In the intervention group, patients with ascites at the end of the time period had decreased scores on the social aspects SF-36 domain(P = 0.023) compared to those who had no ascites. CONCLUSION: The proposed exercises provide an increase in the inspiratory muscle strength and improve functional capacity, consequently bettering the quality of life of liver disease patients.Vivian Limongi Daniele Costa Dos Santos Aurea Maria de Oliveira da Silva Ilka de Fátima Santana Ferreira Boin Raquel Silveira Bello Stucchi 2016World Journal of Transplantation2016,6,2:3
Apple whole genome sequences:recent advances and new prospects显示文摘In 2010,a major scientific milestone was achieved for tree fruit crops:publication of the first draft whole genome sequence(WGS)for apple(Malus domestica). This WGS,v1.0,was valuable as the initial reference for sequence information, fine mapping, gene discovery, variant discovery, and tool development.A new, high quality apple WGS,GDDH13 v1.1,was released in 2017 and now serves as the reference genome for apple.Over the past decade, these apple WGSs have had an enormous impact on our understanding of apple biological functioning, trait physiology and inheritance, leading to practical applications for improving this highly valued crop.Causal gene identities for phenotypes of fundamental and practical interest can today be discovered much more rapidly.Genome-wide polymorphisms at high genetic resolution are screened efficiently over hundreds to thousands of individuals with new insights into genetic relationships and pedigrees.High-density genetic maps are constructed efficiently and quantitative trait loci for valuable traits are readily associated with positional candidate genes and/or converted into diagnostic tests for breeders. We understand the species, geographical, and genomic origins of domesticated apple more precisely,as well as its relationship to wild relatives. The WGS has turbo-charged application of these classical research steps to crop improvement and drives innovative methods to achieve more durable, environmentally sound, productive, and consumer-desirable apple production. This review includes examples of basic and practical breakthroughs and challenges in using the apple WGSs.Recommendations for“what’s next”focus on necessary upgrades to the genome sequence data pool,as well as for use of the data,to reach new frontiers in genomics-based scientific understanding of apple.Cameron P.Peace Luca Bianco Michela Troggio Eric van de Weg Nicholas P.Howard Amandine Cornille Charles-Eric Durel Sean Myles ZoëMigicovsky Robert J.Schaffer Evelyne Costes Gennaro Fazio Hisayo Yamane Steve van Nocker Chris Gottschalk Fabrizio Costa David Chagné Xinzhong Zhang Andrea Patocchi Susan E.Gardiner Craig Hardner Satish Kumar Francois Laurens Etienne Bucher Dorrie Main Sook Jung Stijn Vanderzande 2019Horticulture Research2019,6,1:3
