Ancient Changjiang channel system in the East China Sea continental shelf during the last glaciation显示文摘Based on the data of high-resolution seismic profiles, an ancient river channel sys-tem of the last glaciation occurred along the Zhedong and Xihu depression in the southeast of Hupijiao rise. The distribution of the channel fill system shows that the ancient Changjiang River went through the Changjiang depression into the low land plain of the outside continental shelf during the low sea level cycle of the last glaciation. The big channel fill into Okinawa Trough is not found due to the depletion of the river kinetic energy in the low land plain. The river discharge dispersal was of an important role to the dilution of the northern Okinawa Trough sea at that time. Six ancient river channel systems (A―F), which are main distributaries of ancient Changjiang in the East China Sea continental shelf during the last glaciation, may be buried off the modern Changjiang estuary. The distribution of these channels coincides with the zonal elevations in the sea floor. | LI Guangxue1,2, LIU Yong1, YANG Zigeng3, YUE Shuhong4, YANG Wenda5 & HAN Xibin1 1. | 2 | Characteristics of chlorine isotope distribution and analysis on sylvinite deposit formation based on ancient salt rock in the western Tarim Basin显示文摘During formation of the Tarim Basin, there repetitively happened seawater invasion for it was ever connected with wide Paleo-mediterranean Sea. At the same time, for the applica-tion of tectonic and paleoenvironmental condition, the basin deposits many sequences of thick strata of evaporites, especially in its two largest subbasins of Kuqa in the north and Shaqa in the southwest. Therefore, the western Tarim Basin has been considered to be a favorable location to prospect ancient sylvinite deposit. But it is unfortunate that the Br×103/Cl ratio, as a common geochemical index to uncover clues of sylvinite deposit, is almost invalid to indicate the stage of ancient brine condensation for very low content of bromine in salt rock samples (less than 10?6 commonly) in the western Tarim Basin evaporites. Fortunately, we noticed recently that the val-ues of chlorine isotope (δ 37Cl value) for salt rock samples follow some clear laws from place to place, which in the Shaqa subbasin, all δ 37Cl values of salt rock samples behaved negatively and on the contrary, they all surprisingly showed positive values in the Kuqa subbasin. Based on conclusions of previous research and referring to the ratios of Br×103/Cl for salt rock or brine samples, we proved that the chlorine isotope (δ 37Cl) could be used as an effective index to find ancient sylvinite deposit in those evaporites rock basin with low content of Br element back-ground, such as the Tarim Basin. Thus according to the new index of chlorine isotope, we con-clude that the concentration of ancient brines formed ancient salt rocks is much more concen-trated in the Shaqa subbasin than that in the Kuqa subbasin. Particularly, the δ 37Cl value of salt rock in Kashi depression of the western Shaqa subbasin is greatly negative (1.00‰), which may predicate that the ancient brine has been concentrated to the terminal stage of salt deposit or even the later stage of sylvinite deposit. Then it is possible to find sylvinite-bearing deposits around the western region (periphery of Kashi depression) of the Shaqa subbasin if we carry out more careful exploration in later works. | TAN Hongbing1,2, MA Haizhou1, XIAO Yingkai1, WEI Haizhen1,2, ZHANG Xiying1 & MA Wandong1 1. | 3 | Geochemistry of the subduction-related magmatic rocks in the Dahong Mountains, northern Hubei Province--Constraint on the existence and subduction of the eastern Mianlüe oceanic basin显示文摘The existence and subduction of the eastern Mianl黣 oceanic basin in the south Qinling belt are keys to understand the Qinling orogen. Based on geological mapping, several volcanic slices have been identified in Tumen, Zhoujiawan, Xiaofu and Yuantan areas, which distribute in the northern margin of the Dahong Mountains (DHM), and thrust into the Sanli-gang-Sanyang fault. These slices consist mainly of diabases, basaltic-andesitic lavas, pyroclastic rocks and a minor tuff. The geochemistry of the basalts, andesites, and diabases is characterized by depleting in Nb and Ta, enriching in Th and LILE (e.g.K, Rb, Ba), and undifferentiating in HFSE. These geochemical characteristics suggest that the original magma of these rocks was derived from a mantle wedge above a subduction zone, and formed in an island-arc setting in Carboniferous-early Triassic. Comparing with the ophiolites and island-arc volcanic rocks in Mianxian-Leyang area to the west, it is reasonable to consider that there had been an oceanic basin connecting with the Mianle ancient ocean to the westward, distributing along the south edge of the Tongbai-Dabie block. In view of the ophiolite in Huashan area and these island-arc volcanic rocks along the north of the Dahong Mountains, it is suggested that there had been a plate tectonic evolutionary history with oceanic basin rifting and subduction in this region. | DONG Yunpeng, ZHANG Guowei, ZHAO Xia, YAO Anping & LIU Xiaoming The Key Laboratory of Continental Dynamics, Ministry of Education, Department of Geology, Northwest University, Xi抋n 710069,China | 2004 | Science China Earth Sciences2004,47,4: | 12
Thermoluminescence dating of the ancient Chinese porcelain using a regression method of saturation exponential in pre-dose technique显示文摘This paper studies the thermoluminescence (TL) dating of the ancient por- celain using a regression method of saturation exponential in the pre-dose technique. The experimental results show that the measured errors are 15% (±1σ) for the paleodose and 17% (±1σ) for the annual dose respectively, and the TL age error is 23% (±1σ) in this method. The larger Chinese porcelains from the museum and the nation-wide collectors have been dated by this method. The results show that the certainty about the authenticity testing is larger than 95%, and the measurable porcelains make up about 95% of the por- celain dated. It is very successful in discrimination for the imitations of ancient Chinese porcelains. This paper describes the measured principle and method for the paleodose of porcelains. The TL ages are dated by this method for the 39 shards and porcelains from past dynasties of China and the detailed data in the measurement are reported. | WANG Weida XIA Junding ZHOU Zhixin | 2006 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2006,49,2: | 11
Starch grains from dental calculus reveal ancient plant foodstuffs at Chenqimogou site, Gansu Province显示文摘Chenqimogou site, located at the south bank of Tao River, is comprised of a large group of graves dated to ~4000 a BP. For its large scale, unique mortuary system, and abundant of typical artifacts, the site was named one of 'Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries of 2008 in China'. Many intact human skeletons have been excavated from the graves. Three teeth from two adult skeletons excavated from graves M187 and M194 were examined. Forty-eight starch grains were retrieved from dental calculus of three teeth. Six of those starch grains could not be identified because of damage. The others were classified into seven groups. Most of them were from wheat (Triticum aestivum) and/or barley (Hordeum vulgare). Remains possibly from foxtail millet (Setaria italica), buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum), gingkgo (Ginkgo biloba), acorn (Quercus spp.), bean, roots or tubers were identified. Ancient starch grains from dental calculus indicate that human foodstuffs primarily sourced from wheat, buckwheat, and foxtail millet. Acorn, beans, tubers or roots were supplements. A variety of starch grains retrieved from dental calculus revealed that diverse crops were cultivated in the Chenqimogou site 4000 years ago, and both dry-land farming and gathering were engaged. | LI MingQi YANG XiaoYan WANG Hui WANG Qiang JIA Xin GE QuanSheng | 2010 | Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,5: | 11
The non-destructive analysis of ancient jade artifacts unearthed from the Liangzhu sites at Yuhang,Zhejiang显示文摘Samples of the jade artifacts unearthed from the Liangzhu sites at Yuhang (Fanshan,Yaoshan, Huiguanshan and Tangshan) of Zhejiang province were described. The chemical composition, phase and jade structure of a hundred and more intact samples were analyzed by the non-destructive techniques of PIXE, XRD and laser Raman spectroscopy. Results showed that the minerals of the jade artifacts mostly belonged to tremolite and tremolite-actinolite. Relationship of the civilization development in the Neolithic age and the application of tremolite type mineral in jade artifacts was discussed. The contents of rare and trace elements in tremolite jade artfacts and in mineral samples were measured for the first time. The possible mineral sources of these tremolite type jade artifacts were discussed. | GAN FuXi1,3, CAO JingYan2, CHENG HuanSheng3, Gu DongHong1, RUI GuoYao2, FANG XiangMing2, DONG JunQing1 & ZHAO HongXia1 1Scientific Archeology Center, Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai 201800, China 2 Research Institute of Cultural Relics and Archeology of Zhejiang, Hangzhou 310014, China 3 Fudan University, Shanghai 200433, China | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,12: | 8

The Quest for the Modernization and Internationalization of Traditional Chinese Medicine显示文摘Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is deeply rooted in ancient Chinese culture and has been practiced by Chinese people for thousands of years in order to maintain their health and fight against disease. This ancient Chinese wisdom has accumulated from the long struggle to cope with various diseases through hundreds or even thousands of trial-and-error practices. However, due to its empirical character, TCM has long been criticized as being deficient in scientific evidence, and is still not widely accepted by the mainstream conventional medical system. The complexity of the chemical components of TCM and the clarification of its mechanisms remain an enormous challenge in the conversion of TCM into an evidence-based medicine. Thanks to incredible progress in biomedical research, TCM has evolved at an astonishing pace in various aspects, as indicated by the 2015 Nobel Prize awarded to Professor Youyou Tu for her discovery of artemisinin. | Boli Zhang Shengli Yang De-an Guo | 2019 | Engineering2019,5,1: | 6

Comparative Study on Spatial Forms of Ancient Waterside Towns Based on Google Earth Pro-Taking the Example of Qingmuchuan,Fenghuang and Houliu in Southern Shaanxi,China显示文摘The purpose of this study is to address the problem of ancient towns dying out in developing countries, particularly China.Intensifying conflicts between human settlements and the natural environment are described, and guidelines are proposed for the development of waterside ancient towns in China’s southern Shaanxi Province in the interest of conserving cultural and natural heritage. The towns of Qingmuchuan,Fenghuang and Houliu were selected as representative examples due to their strong reputation among tourists. They have the characteristics of traditional southern Shaanxi towns, but each has a completely different layout, space and structure. The comparative findings of this research provide a point of reference for establishing guidelines to preserve the integrity of ancient towns worldwide. In this paper,we compare the geographical conditions with the layout and texture of the streets by Google Earth Pro.And we analyze the details of spaces along the river zones, architectural styles and building decorations in order to research the relationship between the natural environment and the human settlement conditions. We note the unfortunate common trend of commercial development steadily taking over the natural environment, particularly the rivers and unique elements of the old towns. Finally,we summarize the similarities and differences of the spatial forms among these towns and put forward proposals for the further development of ancient towns. This research is important for all regions which stand to lose their national treasures.Consequently, measures should be to taken to curtail hyper development before we lose our historicscenery. | Mei Yang Zhaoyang Feng | 2020 | Journal of Environmental Science and Engineering(B)2020,9,1: | 5
GEOPHYSICAL CRITERIA FOR“RESUSCITATING”OF THE PANXI ANCIENT RIFT TECTONIC ZONE显示文摘Deep structure and properties and features of the geophysical fields of the Panxi region, in the middle of the Kang-Dian (Kangding-Yunnan) tectonic belt, are studied as a whole. The study is based on the detection of magnetic field (including paleomagnetic dating, aeromagnetics), geothermal field, natural earthquake, plate motion, explosion seismology and magneto-electrotelluric sounding. The results show that the Panxi tectonic zone is neither a completely withered ancient rift nor a modern rift system in the heyday having come into being since the Mesozoic or the Cenozoic era, but it is an active tectonic zone (i. e. a 'resuscitating' ancient rift zone) formed and reformed by magma activity and tectonic movements in adjacent regions. | 滕吉文 | 1989 | Science China Chemistry1989,32,1: | 4

Episodic fluid movements in superimposed basin:Combined evidence from outcrop and fluid inclusions of the Majiang ancient oil reservoir,Guizhou Province显示文摘Combined evidence from the outcrop and the fluid inclusion assemblage (FIA) analysis indicates that there exist two episodes of fluid flow controlled by the tectonic activity. The first episode was recorded mainly in the reservoir rock of the Honghuayuan Formation, representing the fluid flow of hydrocarbon charging. The second episode occurred mainly along the fault systems, representing the fluid move-ment when the ancient oil reservoir was destroyed. The host mineral morphology, homogeneous tem-perature,and salinity of the FIAs record an episodic fluid movement. Characters of high homogenous temperature, low salinity and a quick temperature variation of the first episode fluid flow may indicate an early-stage fluid eruption, and correspondingly,fine-grained calcite was formed. Temperature of the erupted fluid tended to decrease during its mixing with the upper formation fluid and finally had the same temperature as the upper formation. From then on,the temperature was rather steady and fa-vored the growth of the coarse calcite. Due to this character of the temperature variation of the episodic fluid flow,we can use the homogenous temperature of the FIA of the coarse calcite to date the forma-tion and the destruction time of the Majiang ancient oil reservoir. Episodic fluid flow was known for its inhomogeneous trapping, which resulted in the failure of dating according to the burial history. But taking a close look at its temperature variation,we think that the latest stage of fluid flow, characterized by steady state temperature and grow of the coarser crystals, can be used for dating. It will be of great value if this method is proved to be effective. The formation and the destruction time of the Majiang ancient oil reservoir were dated to be in the Indosinian Period and the late Yanshan-early Hymalayan Period respectively. This conclusion is in great discrepancy with the common accepted idea that the Majiang ancient oil reservoir was formed and destroyed during the Caledonian tectonic movement. Even so,this paper further discussed its reliability from the view of the source rock evolution and also the local tectonic evolution. | XIANG CaiFu1,2,TANG LiangJie1,2,LI RuFeng1,2 & PANG XiongQi1,2 1 Basin and Reservoir Research Center,China University of Petroleum,Beijing 102249,China 2 State Key Laboratory of Petroleum Resource and Prospecting,China University of Petroleum,Beijing 102249,China | 2008 | Science China Earth Sciences2008,51,S2: | 4
Carrying Capacity of Water Leisure Environment in Eco-cities-A Case Study of Ancient Canal Scenic Area in Yangzhou City显示文摘Water leisure tourism is an emerging theme in urban planning, and its planning mode and operation level directly influence the eco-cycle degree of urban development. Tourism activities inevitably impact environmental quality of urban water spaces, and the research on the environmental carrying capacity of such spaces has also become an important prerequisite of tourism planning. Taking the Yangzhou Ancient Canal Scenic Area for an example, the paper constructed the estimated indicators of water leisure tourism environmental carrying capacity on the basis of analyzing scenic geographical resources and tourism economic conditions, and calculated the scenic area's water leisure tourism environmental integrated carrying capacity by the method of barrel extrapolation, providing a reasonable foundation for evaluating the planning conditions in the eco-cycle urban water leisure tourism planning. | SONG Li XIAO Ping | 2013 | Journal of Landscape Research2013,5,4: | 4
Carbon isotopic composition and its implications on paleoclimate of the underground ancient forest ecosystem in Sihui,Guangdong显示文摘We present the carbon isotopic composition of the total organic carbon(TOC) and fine roots in the sedimentary profile from the underground ancient forest in Sihui to study the climatic and environmental changes from 4.5 ka BP to 0.6 ka BP.Results show that C3 plant was the main vegetation from 4.5 ka BP to 0.6 ka BP in this region. The ancient forest began to develop in the wetland at around 4 ka BP and disappeared together with the wetland at about 3.0 ka BP,implying that the climate had changed greatly at around 3.0 ka BP.As indicated by the simulation results, the content of atmospheric CO2 increased slightly during 3.5 ka BP and 3.0 ka BP,implying climate warming during that period. The interval of radiocarbon age between 3.0 ka BP and 1.2 ka BP was possibly caused by the strong erosion when the block was lifted in the neotectonic movement. From 1.2 ka BP to 0.6 ka BP,the region remained in terrestrial sedimentary environment, and the surface plant biomass declined gradually.Drought caused by the climate change was the likely cause for the disappearance of the ancient forest.South transition of Intertropical Convergence Zone(ITCZ) was probably the main mechanism for the climate change. | Ping Ding ChengDe Shen Ning Wang WeiXi Yi KeXin Liu XingFang Ding DongPo Fu | 2009 | Science China Earth Sciences2009,52,5: | 4

| 20 | Analysis of Mitochondrial DNA from the Ancient Tombs of Turfan显示文摘MtDNA was successfully extracted from ten individual bones (femurs) in the tombs of ancient Jushi in Turfan basin, dated back to the year about 3 000-2 500 years ago. By means of four overlapping primers, we got nucleotide sequence of the 218bp length. Ancient mtDNA was analyzed by the sequencing of hypervariable region Ⅰ of the mtDNA control region. The result shows that 9 haplotypes with 24 polymorphic sites were obtained. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that Mongolians and Altai are the population genetically closest to the Jushi groups and Jushi mtDNA pool being an admixture of eastern Asian and European lineages. So our preliminary data imply that an ancient mingling of Euro-Asian population had existed in Turfan basin prior to the early Iron Age. | CUI Yin-qiu 1,2, DUAN Ran-hui 1, LIU Shu-bai 1, JI Chao-neng 2,ZHU Hong 1, LI Wei 1, MAO Yu-min 2 and ZHOU Hui 1,**1.
