Optimal configuration for a finite high-temperature source heat engine cycle with the complex heat transfer law显示文摘The optimal configuration of a heat engine operating between a finite high-temperature source and an infinite low-temperature reservoir is derived by using finite time thermodynamics based on a complex heat transfer law, including Newtonian heat transfer law, linear phenomenological heat transfer law, radiative heat transfer law,Dulong-Petit heat transfer law, generalized convective heat transfer law and generalized radiative heat transfer law,q ∝(△T n). In the engine model the only irreversibility of finite rate heat transfer is considered. The optimal relation between the power output and efficiency of the heat engine is also derived by using an equivalent temperature of the hot reservoir. The obtained results include those obtained in recent literature and can provide some theoretical guidance for the designs of practical engines. | LI Jun CHEN LinGen SUN FengRui | 2009 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2009,52,4: | 22
Optimal configuration of a class of endoreversible heat engines for maximum efficiency with radiative heat transfer law显示文摘Optimal configuration of a class of endoreversible heat engines with fixed duration, input energy and radiative heat transfer law (q∝Δ(T4)) is determined. The optimal cycle that maximizes the efficiency of the heat engine is obtained by using opti-mal-control theory, and the differential equations are solved by the Taylor series expansion. It is shown that the optimal cycle has eight branches including two isothermal branches, four maximum-efficiency branches, and two adiabatic branches. The interval of each branch is obtained,as well as the solutions of the temperatures of the heat reservoirs and the working fluid. A numerical example is given. The obtained results are compared with those obtained with the Newton’s heat transfer law for the maximum efficiency objective, those with linear phe-nomenological heat transfer law for the maximum efficiency objective, and those with radiative heat transfer law for the maximum power output objective. | SONG HanJiang CHEN LinGen SUN FengRui | 2008 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2008,51,9: | 21
30-W supercontinuum generation based on ZBLAN fiber in an all-fiber configuration显示文摘We report an all-fiberized 30-W supercontinuum(SC) generation in a piece of ZrF4-BaF2-LaF3-AlF3-NaF(ZBLAN) fiber. The pump source is a thulium-doped fiber amplifier(TDFA) with broadband output spectrum spanning the 1.9 to 2.6 μm region. The used ZBLAN fiber has a core diameter of 10 μm, and was directly fusion-spliced to the pigtail of the TDFA without using a traditional mode field adapter(MFA) or a piece of transition fiber. Such a low-loss and robust fusion splice joint, together with a robust AlF3-fiber-based endcap, enables efficient and high-power SC generation in the ZBLAN fiber. An SC with an average power up to 30.0 W and a spectral coverage of 1.9–3.35 μm with 20-dB bandwidth of 1.92–3.20 μm was obtained. Moreover, an SC with a broader spectrum was achieved by raising the pump pulse peak power(via reducing the duty ratio of the pump laser pulse). An SC with an output power of 27.4 W and a spectral coverage of 1.9–3.63 μm(with 20-dB bandwidth of 1.92–3.47 μm) was obtained, as well as an SC with output power of 24.8 W and a spectral coverage of 1.9–3.70 μm(with 20-dB bandwidth of 1.93–3.56 μm). The power conversion efficiency was measured as>69%. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this research demonstrates the record output power of SC lasers based on ZBLAN fibers, paving the way for broadband and efficient multi-tens-of-watts SC generation in softglass fibers. | LINYONG YANG YING LI BIN ZHANG TIANYI WU YIJUN ZHAO JING HOU | 2019 | Photonics Research2019,7,9: | 9
Effect of rock mass structure and block size on the slope stability——Physical modeling and discrete element simulation显示文摘This paper studies the stability of jointed rock slopes by using our improved three-dimensional discrete element methods (DEM) and physical modeling. Results show that the DEM can simulate all failure modes of rock slopes with different joint configurations. The stress in each rock block is not homogeneous and blocks rotate in failure development. Failure modes depend on the configuration of joints. Toppling failure is observed for the slope with straight joints and sliding failure is observed for the slope with staged joints. The DEM results are also compared with those of limit equilibrium method (LEM). Without considering the joints in rock masses, the LEM predicts much higher factor of safety than physical modeling and DEM. The failure mode and factor of safety predicted by the DEM are in good agreement with laboratory tests for any jointed rock slope. | LI Shihai1, LIAN Zhenzhong1,2 & J. G. Wang3 1. | 5 | An overview of the configuration and manipulation of soft robotics for on-orbit servicing显示文摘Soft robots refer to robots that are softer and more flexible when compared with conventional rigidbodied robots. Soft robots are adapted to unstructured environments due to their flexibility, deformability and energy-absorbing properties. Thus, they have tremendous application prospects in on-orbit servicing(OOS).This study discusses the configuration and manipulation of soft robotics. Usually, learning from living beings is used to develop the configurations of most soft robots. In this study, typical soft robots are introduced based on what they mimic. The discussion of manipulation is divided into two parts, namely actuation and control. The study also involves describing and comparing several types of actuations. Studies on the control of soft robots are also reviewed. In this study, potential application of soft robotics for on-orbit servicing is analyzed.A hybrid configuration and manipulation of space soft robots for future research are proposed based on the current development of soft robotics, and some challenges are discussed. | Zhongliang JING Lingfeng QIAO Han PAN Yongsheng YANG Wujun CHEN | 2017 | Science China(Information Sciences)2017,60,5: | 8

Inverse design of low boom configurations using proper orthogonal decomposition and augmented Burgers equation显示文摘Mitigation of sonic boom to an acceptable stage is a key point for the next generation of supersonic transports. Meanwhile, designing a supersonic aircraft with an ideal ground signature is always the focus of research on sonic boom reduction. This paper presents an inverse design approach to optimize the near-field signature of an aircraft, making it close to the shaped ideal ground signature after the propagation in the atmosphere. Using the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition(POD) method, a guessed input of augmented Burgers equation is inversely achieved. By multiple POD iterations, the guessed ground signatures successively approach the target ground signature until the convergence criteria is reached. Finally, the corresponding equivalent area distribution is calculated from the optimal near-field signature through the classical Whitham F-function theory. To validate this method, an optimization example of Lockheed Martin 1021 is demonstrated. The modified configuration has a fully shaped ground signature and achieves a drop of perceived loudness by 7.94 PLdB. This improvement is achieved via shaping the original near-field signature into wiggles and damping it by atmospheric attenuation. At last, a nonphysical ground signature is set as the target to test the robustness of this inverse design method and shows that this method is robust enough for various inputs. | Yidian ZHANG Jiangtao HUANG Zhenghong GAO Chao WANG Bowen SHU | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2019,32,6: | 7
An optimal energy management development for various configuration of plug-in and hybrid electric vehicle显示文摘Due to soaring fuel prices and environmental concerns, hybrid electric vehicle(HEV) technology attracts more attentions in last decade. Energy management system, configuration of HEV and traffic conditions are the main factors which affect HEV's fuel consumption, emission and performance. Therefore, optimal management of the energy components is a key element for the success of a HEV. An optimal energy management system is developed for HEV based on genetic algorithm. Then, different powertrain system component combinations effects are investigated in various driving cycles. HEV simulation results are compared for default rule-based, fuzzy and GA-fuzzy controllers by using ADVISOR. The results indicate the effectiveness of proposed optimal controller over real world driving cycles. Also, an optimal powertrain configuration to improve fuel consumption and emission efficiency is proposed for each driving condition. Finally, the effects of batteries in initial state of charge and hybridization factor are investigated on HEV performance to evaluate fuel consumption and emissions. Fuel consumption average reduction of about 14% is obtained for optimal configuration data in contrast to default configuration. Also results indicate that proposed controller has reduced emission of about 10% in various traffic conditions. | Morteza Montazeri-Gh Mehdi Mahmoodi-K | 2015 | Journal of Central South University2015,22,5: | 7
Three-dimensional dynamics of supported pipes conveying fluid显示文摘This paper deals with the three-dimensional dynamics and postbuckling behavior of flexible supported pipes conveying fluid, considering flow velocities lower and higher than the critical value at which the buckling instability occurs. In the case of low flow velocity, the pipe is stable with a straight equilibrium position and the dynamics of the system can be examined using linear theory. When the flow velocity is beyond the critical value, any motions of the pipe could be around the postbuckling configuration(non-zero equilibrium position) rather than the straight equilibrium position, so nonlinear theory is required. The nonlinear equations of perturbed motions around the postbuckling configuration are derived and solved with the aid of Galerkin discretization. It is found, for a given flow velocity, that the first-mode frequency for in-plane motions is quite different from that for out-of-plane motions. However, the second-or third-mode frequencies for in-plane motions are approximately equal to their counterparts for out-of-plane motions, keeping almost constant values with increasing flow velocity. Moreover, the orientation angle of the postbuckling configuration plane for a buckled pipe can be significantly affected by initial conditions, displaying new features which have not been observed in the same pipe system factitiously supposed to deform in a single plane. | L.Wang T.L.Jiang H.L.Dai | 2017 | Acta Mechanica Sinica2017,33,6: | 7
Effects of Flexibility and Suspension Configuration of Main Shaft on Dynamic Characteristics of Wind Turbine Drivetrain显示文摘The current research of wind turbine drivetrain is mainly concentrated in dynamic characteristics of gearbox with a specific suspension of main shaft, such as one-point and two-point suspension. However, little attention is paid to the e ects of these suspension configurations on the dynamic responses of wind turbine gearbox. This paper investigates the influences of suspension configurations of main shaft on the dynamic characteristics of drivetrain. For evaluating the dynamic behaviors of drivetrain with multi-stage transmission system more realistically, a dynamic modeling approach of drivetrain is proposed based on Timoshenko beam theory and Lagrange's equation. Considering the flexibility and di erent suspension configurations of main shaft, time-varying mesh sti ness excitation, time-varying transmission error excitation and gravity excitation, etc., a three-dimensional dynamic model of drivetrain is developed, and the dynamic responses of drivetrain are investigated. Results show that with the one-point suspension of main shaft, the resonance frequencies in gearbox, especially at the low-speed stage, obviously shift to the higher frequency range compared to the gearbox without main shaft, but this trend could be inversed by increasing main shaft length. Meanwhile, the loads in main shaft, main shaft bearing and carrier bearing are greatly sensitive to the main shaft length. Hence, the load sharing is further disrupted by main shaft, but this e ect could be alleviated by larger load torque. Comparing to the one-point suspension of main shaft, there occurs the obvious load reduction at the low-speed stage with two-point suspension of main shaft. However, those advantages greatly depend on the distance between two main bearings, and come at the expense of increased load in upwind main shaft unit and the corresponding main bearing. Finally, a wind field test is conducted to verify the proposed drivetrain model. This study develops a numerical model of drivetrain which is able to evaluate the e ects of di erent suspension configurations of main shaft on gearbox. | Jianjun Tan Caichao Zhu Chaosheng Song Huali Han Yao Li | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2019,32,2: | 7
Sulfide mineral dissolution microbes: Community structure and function in industrial bioleaching heaps显示文摘Heap bioleaching is one of the most clean and economical processes for recovery of low-grade and complex ores, because the sulfide minerals are natural habitats for acidophiles capable of iron-and sulfur-oxidation. The most exciting advances in heap bioleaching are occurring in the field of microbiology, especially with the development of advanced molecular biology approaches. These chemolithotrophic microorganisms living in the acid mine environment fix N_2 and CO_2 and obtain energy for growth from soluble ferrous iron and reduced inorganic sulfur compounds during oxidation of sulfide minerals. The ferric iron as oxidant and sulfuric acid are a result of microbial activity and provide favorable conditions for the dissolution of sulfide minerals. Various microbial consortia were applied successfully in commercial bioleaching heaps around the world, and microbial community and activity were adapted related to the local climatic conditions, ore characteristics and engineering configuration. This review focuses on diversity of bioleaching microbes, their role in heap bioleaching processes, their community structure and function in industrial heaps and the relation to the ore characteristics and the engineering configuration, to give implications for optimizing leaching efficiency of heap bioleaching. | Yan Jia Qiaoyi Tan Heyun Sun Yupeng Zhang Hongshan Gao Renman Ruan | 2019 | Green Energy & Environment2019,4,1: | 6
Pre-reinforcement grout in fractured rock masses and numerical simulation for optimizing shrinkage stoping configuration显示文摘Proper room and pillar sizes are both critical factors for safe mining and high ore recovery rate in shrinkage stoping mining of underground metal mines. The rock masses of Tangdan copper mine of China are fractured, which needs much reinforcement and support prior to mining. Cement-sodium silicate grout technology was selected, then its related parameters such as grout pressure, diffusion radius and time were calculated and proposed. In order to test the effect of the pressured grout in the fractured No.4 ore block, field experiments were conducted. To optimize stoping configuration, three-dimensional numerical simulation with ANSYS and FLAC 3 D softwares was proposed. The results show that the drilling porosity and mechanical properties of the rock masses are increased obviously. After grout, ore recovery rate is increased by 10.2 % employing the newly designed stoping configuration compared with the previous. Last, analyzed from the surface movements, roof subsidence and the maximum principal stress of the pillars, the mining safety is probable of being ensured. | 于少峰 吴爱祥 王贻明 李涛 | 2017 | Journal of Central South University2017,24,12: | 6
Aerodynamic characteristics research on wide-speed range waverider configuration显示文摘Waverider generated from a given flow field has a high lift-to-drag ratio because of attached bow shock on leading edge. However, leading edge blunt and off-design condition can make bow shock off leading edge and have unfavorable influence on aerodynamic characteristics. So these two problems have always been concerned as important engineering science issues by aeronautical engineering scientists. In this paper, through respectively using low speed and high speed waverider design principles, a wide-speed rang vehicle is designed, which can level takeoff and accelerate to hypersonic speed for cruise. In addition, sharp leading edge is blunted to alleviated aeroheating. Theoretical study and wind tunnel test show that this vehicle has good aerodynamic performance in wide-speed range of subsonic, transonic, supersonic and hypersonic speeds. | WANG FaMin DING HaiHe LEI MaiFang | 2009 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2009,52,10: | 6

Bandgap prediction by deep learning in configurationally hybridized graphene and boron nitride显示文摘It is well-known that the atomic-scale and nano-scale configuration of dopants can play a crucial role in determining the electronic properties of materials. However, predicting such effects is challenging due to the large range of atomic configurations that are possible. Here,we present a case study of how deep learning algorithms can enable bandgap prediction in hybridized boron–nitrogen graphene with arbitrary supercell configurations.A material descriptor that enables correlation of structure and bandgap was developed for convolutional neural networks.Bandgaps calculated by ab initio calculations, and corresponding structures, were used as training datasets. The trained networks were then used to predict bandgaps of systems with various configurations. For 4×4 and 5×5 supercells they accurately predict bandgaps, with a R^(2) of >90% and root-mean-square error of~0.1 eV.The transfer learning was performed by leveraging data generated from small supercells to improve the prediction accuracy for 6×6 supercells. This work will pave a route to future investigation of configurationally hybridized graphene and other 2D materials. Moreover, given the ubiquitous existence of configurations in materials, this work may stimulate interest in applying deep learning algorithms for the configurational design of materials across different length scales. | Yuan Dong Chuhan Wu Chi Zhang Yingda Liu Jianlin Cheng Jian Lin | 2019 | npj Computational Materials2019,,1: | 5
Improving the Solidified Structure by Optimization of Coil Configuration in Pulsed Magneto-Oscillation显示文摘Using both numerical and experimental methods, we studied the effect of coil configuration of pulsed magneto-oscillation(PMO) on distribution of electromagnetic field, flow field and solidification structure with the same pulse current parameters in Al ingots. We designed and constructed three types of coils: surface pulsed magneto-oscillation, hot-top pulsed magneto-oscillation(HPMO) and combined pulsed magneto-oscillation(CPMO). PMO treatment refined the solidification structure in all the ingots. The configuration of the PMO, however, introduced differences in magnetic field intensity, electromagnetic force, Joule heat, flow field, equiaxed grain zone, grain size and growth direction of columnar grains. The largest equiaxed grain zone was found in CPMO treated ingot, and the smallest grain size was found in both HPMO and CPMO treated ingots. Numerical simulation indicated that difference in electromagnetic field and flow field resulted in differences in solidification structure. HPMO is more advantageous over others for large ingot production. | Jing Zhao Ji-Hao Yu Ke Han Hong-Gang Zhong Ren-Xing Li Qi-Jie Zhai | 2018 | Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2018,31,12: | 5
Configuration optimization of high velocity arc spraying gun显示文摘In order to improve the in-flight characteristics of the atomizing droplets during high velocity wire arc spraying (HVAS), some changes have been operated on the original design of the HVAS gun configuration. A comparative study was carried out to investigate the microstructure and properties of the coatings produced by the original design spraying gun and the modified one, using 3Cr13 wires of 3 mm in diameter. The characteristics of their jets were examined during spraying. The results indicate that, the included angle between the two wires and the distance from the nozzle to the meeting point of the two vires may have a strong influence on the characteristics of the in-flight droplets and then the coatings. The jet divergence is found to be lower than that of the original one (about 12° against 25°). By modified gun, the adhesion strength, the microhardness and porosity of the coating deposited by modified gun are increased by 39% and 9% respectively. And the porosity of the coatings is decreased by 57%. | CHEN Yong-xiong ZHU Zi-xin LIU Yan XU Bin-shi | 2004 | 中国有色金属学会会刊:英文版2004,14,z1: | 5
