Tectonic evolution of the Western Kunlun orogenic belt in northern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau:Evidence from zircon SHRIMP and LA-ICP-MS U-Pb geochronology显示文摘The Western Kunlun Range in northern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is composed of the North Kunlun Terrane, the South Kunlun Terrane and the Karakorum-Tianshuihai Terrane. Here we report zircon SHRIMP and LA-ICP-MS U-Pb ages of some metamorphic and igneous rocks and field observations in order to pro-vide a better understanding of their Precambrian and Palaeozoic-early Mesozoic tectonic evolution. Based on these data we draw the following conclusions: (1) The paragneisses in the North Kunlun Terrane are likely of late Mesoproterozoic age rather than Palaeoproterozoic age as previously thought, representing tectonothermal episodes at 1.0―0.9 Ga and ~0.8 Ga. (2) The North Kunlun Terrane was an orogenic belt accreted to the southern margin of Tarim during late Mesoproterozoic to early Neopro-terozoic,the two episodes of metamorphisms correspond to the assemblage and breakup of Rodinia respectively. (3) The Bulunkuole Group in western South Kunlun Terrane, which was considered to be the Palaeoproterozoic basement of the South Kunlun Terrane by previous studies,is now subdivided into the late Neoproterzoic to early Palaeozoic paragneisses (khondalite) and the early Mesozoic metamorphic volcano-sedimentary series; the paragneisses were thrust onto the metamorphic vol-cano-sedimentary series from south to north, with two main teconothermal episodes (i.e.,Caledonian,460―400 Ma,and Hercynian-Indosinian,340―200 Ma),and have been documented by zircon U-Pb ages. (4) In the eastern part of the South Kunlun Terrane,a gneissic granodiorite pluton, which intruded the khondalite, was crystallized at ca. 505 Ma and metamorphosed at ca. 240 Ma. In combination with geochronology data of the paragneiss,we suggest that the South Kunlun Terrane was a Caledonian accretionary orogenic belt and overprinted by late Paleozoic to early Mesozoic arc magmatism.ZHANG ChuanLin LU SongNian YU HaiFeng YE HaiMin 2007Science China Earth Sciences2007,50,6:45
Deep seismic reflection profile across the juncture zone between the Tarim Basin and the West Kunlun Mountains显示文摘Fine structures of the crust and upper mantle of the basin-and-range juncture on the northwestern margin of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau are first delineated by the deep seismic reflection profile across the juncture zone between the Tarim Basin and the West Kunlun Mountains. Evidence is found for the northward subduction of the northwest marginal lithosphere of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and its collision with Tarim lithosphere beneath the West Kunlun Mountains. The lithosphere image of the face-to-face subduction and collision determines the coupling relationship between the Tarim Basin and the West Kunlun Mountains at the lithosphere scale and reflects the process of continent- continent collision.GAO Rui HUANG Dongding LU Deyuan QIAN Guihua LI Yingkang KUANG Chaoyang Li Qiusheng LI Pengwu Feng Rujin Guan Ye 2000Chinese Science Bulletin2000,45,24:30
Precise timing of the Early Paleozoic metamorphism and thrust deformation in the Eastern Kunlun Orogen显示文摘In Dulan County, Qinghai Province NW China, the arc volcanic sequences in the northern side of the Central Fault of the East Kunlun were metamorphosed progressively from upper greenschist facies in the south to epidote-amphibolite facies in the north. High-angle thrust deformation was developed synchronously with the peak metamor-phim and superimposed with later low-angle striking-slip deformation. Zircon U-Pb dating yields a concordant age of (448±4) Ma for the metavolcanics. Syn-kinematic hornblende and muscovite separated from the high-angle thrusting belt give 40Ar-39Ar plateau age of (427±4) Ma and 408 Ma, respectively. These results precisely constrain the timing of the closure of early Paleozoic volcanic basin (Proto-Tethys) over the eastern portion of the East Kunlun Orogen, and the thrust tectonic slice had a cool rate of ca. 9°C/Ma.CHEN Nengsong SUN Min HE Lei ZHANG Kexin WANG Guocan 2002Chinese Science Bulletin2002,47,13:28
SHRIMP zircon U-Pb age and significance of Early Paleozoic volcanic rocks in East Kunlun orogenic belt, Qinghai Province, China显示文摘Early Paleozoic volcanic rocks in Nuomuhong area occurred as basalt slice and meta-volcanic slice. SHRIMP zircon U-Pb dating of the basalt slice and the meta-volcanic slice show that the age of the basalt slice is 419±5 Ma, and that of the meta-volcanic slice is 401± 6 Ma. These ages directly testify that there existed Early Paleozoic ocean-continent transform in East Kunlun, the basalt slice was formed in an extensional mid-ocean ridge setting and the meta-volcanic rock slice was formed in an extrusion subduction and collision setting. The inherited zircon age of 1734 Ma in volcanic rocks reflects that the base of East Kunlun may be Middle Proterozoic.ZHU Yunhai1, LIN Qixiang1, JIA Chunxing2 & WANG Guocan1 1.Faculty of Earth Science, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan 430074, China 2.Regional Geological Survey Academy of Qinghai, Xining 800003, China 2006Science China Earth Sciences2006,49,1:20
Zircon SHRIMP U-Pb ages and trace element geochemistry of the Kuhai gabbro and the Dur'ngoi diorite in the southern east Kunlun tectonic belt, Qinghai, Western China and their geological implications显示文摘Timing of the intermediate-basic igneous rocks developed in the area of Kuhai-A'nyêmaqên along the southern east Kunlun tectonic belt is a controversial issue. This paper presents new zircon SHRIMP U-Pb dating data for igneous zircons from the Kuhai gabbro and the Dur'ngoi diorite in the Kuhai-A'nyemaqen tectonic belt, which are 555±9 Ma and 493±6 Ma, respectively. The trace element geochemical features of the Kuhai gabbro and the Dur'ngoi diorite are similar to those of ocean island basalts (OIB) and island arc basalts (IAB), respectively. Thus, the Kuhai gabbro with the age of 555±9 Ma and OIB geochemical features is similar to the Yushigou oceanic ophiolite in the North Qilian orogen, whereas the Dur'ngoi diorite with the age of 493±6 Ma and IAB geochemical features is similar to the island arc volcanic rocks developed in the north Qaidam. The Late Neoproterozoic to Early Ordovician ophiolite complex in the area of Kuhai-A'nyêmaqên suggests that the southern margin of the 'Qilian-Qaidam-Kunlun' archipelagic ocean in this period was located in the southern east Kunlun tectonic belt. Therefore, the southern east Kunlun tectonic belt in the early Paleozoic is not comparable to the Mianlüe tectonic belt in the Qinling orogenic belt.LI WangYe LI ShuGuang GUO AnLin SUN YanGui ZHANG GuoWei 2007Science China Earth Sciences2007,50,z2:17
New paleontological evidence on time determination of the east part of the Eastern Kunlun Mélange and its tectonic significance显示文摘New paleontological evidence suggests that the composition of the matrix and slices from the middle and the south of the Eastern Kunlun Mélange Belt is very complex, ranging from Proterozoic to Mesozoic in geological time. A Cambrian acritarch assemblage has been discovered from the middle part of the Eastern Kunlun Mélange, a Neoproterozoic to the early Paleozoic acritarch assemblage has been discovered from the south of the Eastern Kunlun Mé lange, and so has been an Early Permian radiolarian from the A’nyemaqen Mélange in Buqing- shan. In addition, some sporopollen has been obtained from the Mesozoic tectonic slices. The above-mentioned paleontological evidence indicates that the Eastern Kunlun Orogenic Belt experienced two episodes from ocean to continent from the Neoproterozoic to the Early Paleo- zoic and in the Late Paleozoic respectively. In the process of intracontinent development in Mesozoic, because of heavy thrust-nappe, strike-slip sheer and crust shortening, the Mesozoic formation was intercalated in mélange by slices and the Eastern Kunlun Orogenic Belt became more complex.ZHANG Kexin LIN Qixiang ZHU Yunhai YIN Hongfu LUO Mansheng CHEN Nengsong WANG Guocan 2004Science China Earth Sciences2004,47,10:17
Discovery and character of the Kunlun-Yellow River Movement显示文摘Based on geomorphological, tectonic and sedimentary data, a Kunlun Yellow River Tectonic Movement has been recognized in 1 10-0 60 Ma B.P. This tectonic movement, which leads to uplift of the Qinghai_Xizang (Tibet) Plateau from 1 500 to 3 000-3 500 m, is periodic, abrupt and changeable in the movement rate of uplifting and slide slipping.CUI Zhijiu 1, WU Yongqiu 2,3 and LIU Gengnian 1 1. 9Tectonic evolution of the West Kunlun Orogenic Belt along the northern margin of the Tibetan Plateau:Implications for the assembly of the Tarim terrane to Gondwana显示文摘The West Kunlun orogenic belt(WKOB) along the northern margin of the Tibetan Plateau is important for understanding the evolution of the Proto-and Paleo-Tethys oceans. Previous investigations have focused on the igneous rocks and ophiolites distributed mostly along the Xinjiang-Tibet road and the China-Pakistan road, and have constructed a preliminary tectonic model for this orogenic belt. However, few studies have focused on the so-called Precambrian basement in this area. As a result, the tectonic affinity of the individual terranes of the WKOB and their detailed evolution process are uncertain. Here we report new field observations, zircon and monazite U-Pb ages of the 'Precambrian basement' of the South Kunlun terrane(SKT) and the Tianshuihai terrane(TSHT), two major terranes in the WKOB. Based on new zircon U-Pb age data, the amphibolite-facies metamorphosed volcanosedimentary sequence within SKT was deposited during the late Neoproterozoic to Cambrian(600-500 Ma), and the flysch-affinity Tianshuihai Group, as the basement of the TSHT, was deposited during the late Neoproterozoic rather than Mesoproterozoic. The rock association of the volcano-sedimentary sequence within SKT suggests a large early Paleozoic accretionary wedge formed by the long-term lowangle southward subduction of the Proto-Tethys Ocean between Tarim and TSHT. The amphibolitefacies metamorphism in SKT occurred at ca. 440 Ma. This ca. 440 Ma metamorphism is genetically related to the closure of the Proto-Tethys Ocean between Tarim and the Tianshuihai terrane, which led to the assembly of Tarim to Eastern Gondwana and the final formation of the Gondwana. Since the late Paleozoic to early Mesozoic, the northward subduction of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean along the HongshihuQiaoertianshan belt produced the voluminous early Mesozoic arc-signature granites along the southern part of NKT-TSHT. The Paleo-Tethys ocean between TSHT and Karakorum closed at ca. 200 Ma, as demonstrated by the monazite age of the paragneiss in the Kangxiwa Group. Our study does not favor the existence of a Precambrian basement in SKT.Chuan-Lin Zhang Hai-Bo Zou Xian-Tao Ye Xiang-Yan Chen 2019Geoscience Frontiers2019,10,3:14
U-Pb dating of zircon from the Central Zone of the East Kunlun Orogen and its implications for tectonic evolution显示文摘LA-ICP-MS and SHRIMP U-Pb dating of zircons from orthogneisses and amphibolite from the Central Zone of the Kunlun Orogen is reported in this paper. One orthogneiss sample has metamorphic zircons yielding weighted average 206Pb/238U age of 517.0 +5.0/-6.0 Ma, and the other orthogneiss sample con- tains zircons with inherited magmatic cores giving three population 207Pb/206Pb ages of 955 Ma, 895 Ma and 657 Ma for the magmatic protolith, and metamorphic recrystallized rims with peak 206Pb/238U ages of 559 +12/?17 Ma and 516 ± 13 Ma. The amphibolite yielded three populations of weighted average 206Pb/238U age of 482.0 +10/?8.0 Ma, 516.2 ± 5.8 Ma and 549 ± 10 Ma for the metamorphic zircons. These dating results recorded the tectonothermal events that occurred in the early Paleozoic and the Pre- cambrian time. The records of the Cambrian magmatic-metamorphic event in the Qinling Orogen, the Altyn Tagh belt, north margin of the Qaidam Block and the Kunlun Orogen suggest that continental assembly probably occurred in the early evolutionary history of the Proto-Tethys.CHEN NengSong SUN Min WANG QinYan ZHANG KeXin WAN YuSheng CHEN HaiHong 2008Science China Earth Sciences2008,51,7:13
Geochronological evidence of Indosinian(high-pressure) metamorphic event and its tectonic significance in Taxkorgan area of the Western Kunlun Mountains,NW China显示文摘The CL images,LA-ICP-MS in situ trace elements analysis, and U-Pb dating for zircons indicate that the metamorphic ages of the sillimanite-garnet-biotite gneiss and the garnet-amphibole gneiss from eastern Taxkorgan of the Western Kunlun Mountains are 220±2 and 220±3 Ma respectively, and their protolith ages are younger than 253±2 and 480±8 Ma respectively. Two samples were collected at the same outcrops with HP mafic granulite and HP pelitic granulite.Mineral assemblage of the sillimanite-garnet-biotite gneiss(Grt+Sill+Per+Q) is consistent with that of HP pelitic granulite at early high amphibolite-granulite facies stage.Mineral assemblage of the garnet-amphibole gneiss(Grt+Amp+Pl+Q) is consistent with retro-metamorphic assemblage of HP mafic granulite at amphibolite facies stage. The dating results suggest that these HP granulites underwent peak metamorphism at 220±2 to 253±2 Ma.Thus, the Kangxiwar tectonic zone was probably formed by subduction and collision of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean during Indosinian.Protolith ages of the two samples, together with previously published U-Pb zircon dating age, suggest that the sillimanite-garnet schist-quartzite unit is a late Paleozoic unit, not a part of the Paleoproterozoic Bulunkuole Group.YANG WenQiang1,LIU Liang1,CAO YuTing1,WANG Chao1,2,HE ShiPing2,LI RongShe2 & ZHU XiaoHui1 1 State Key Laboratory of Continental Dynamics,Department of Geology,Northwest University,Xi’an 710069,China 2 Xi’an Institute of Geology and Mineral Resource,Xi’an 710054,China 2010Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,10:13
Application of radiolarians and other fossils in non-Smith strata——Exemplified by the A'nyemaqen melange belt in East Kunlun Mts.显示文摘The main character of melange strata in an erogenic belt is the integration of mixed materials due to the superposition, displacement or loss of various tectonic slices (blocks) of different origins and environments, different scales, different grades of deformation and metamor-phism, and different stages of tectonic evolution. The approach to non-Smith strata in an erogenic belt is to focus on the understanding of the age, facies, tectonic setting of the original formation and the process of deformation-metamorphism of each tectonic slice, reconstruct the history of dispersal and integration of these tectonic slices in time and space, i.e. 4-dimensional. This paper studies the age and facies of the original formation of tectonic slices in the A’nyemaqen melange belt based on new data of radiolarians, sporo-pollen and trace fossils, and cast new lights on the research of the evolution process of that belt.张克信 黄继春 殷鸿福 王国灿 王永标 冯庆来 田军 2000Science China Earth Sciences2000,43,4:13
Mafic-ultramafic magma activity and copper-nickel sulfide metallogeny during Paleozoic in the Eastern Kunlun Orogenic Belt,Qinghai Province,China显示文摘The Eastern Kunlun Orogenic Belt(EKOB)has a complex geological structure and diverse magmatic activities, which are closely related to the Qaidam Basin and the Tethys tectonic evolution. There are at least 3 stages mafic-ultramafic rocks occurred in the Early Paleozoic in EKOB.The first stage is the Later-Silurian to Early Devonian, represented by the giant Xiarihamu super large magmatic Cu-Ni deposit, containing about 1.18 million metric tons(Mt)of nickel with average grades of 0.65%Ni,and its age of ore-forming pyroxene peridotite is 411 Ma;The second stage is the Early Carboniferous, represented by the large Shitoukengde magmatic Cu-Ni sulfide deposit, and its ore-forming age of the olivine websterite is 334 Ma;The third stage of mafic-ultramafic rocks occurred mainly during the Middle-Late Triassic, represented by Xiaojianshan,Lalinggaoli, and Kaimuqi complexes, and no economical ore bodies have been found in this period. The authors summarized the difference between the ore-bearing and the nonmineralized mafic-ultramafic rocks in the EKOB.The olivine of the ore-bearing complexes contains higher MgO and SiO2 content but lower FeO and CaO contents, and the clinopyroxene of ore-bearing complexes contains lower FeO and CaO contents.Crustal sulfur contamination is key to the formation of the giant Xiarihamu Ni deposit, and crustal sulfur contamination degree of the giant magmatic Ni deposit is higher than that of large Ni deposit. The above indicators could guide the exploration and evaluation of similar deposits in the EKOB.Zhao-wei Zhang Ya-lei Wang Chi-yuan Wang Bing Qian Wen-yuan Li Jiang-wei Zhang Min-xin You 2019China Geology2019,2,4:11
^(40)Ar-^(39)Ar and U-Pb ages of metadiorite from the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt: Evidence for Early-Paleozoic magmatic zone and excess argon in amphibole minerals显示文摘Single-grain zircon U-Pb and amphibole 40Ar-39Ar dating have been conducted on a deformed and metamorphosed diorite in the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt, which intruded into the middle Proterozoic Kuhai Group exposed in the south of Xiangride region, Dulan County, NW Qinghai Province. The zircon gives a concordant U-Pb age of (446.5±9.1) Ma. The amphibole yields Ar plateau age of (488.0±1.2) Ma and an isochronal age of (488.9±5.6) Ma. Age results of both stepwise released Ar and conventional K-Ar analysis are remarkably higher than that of zircon U-Pb, suggesting that the amphibole contains excess argon and the amphibole plateau age cannot be taken as the timing of metamorphism or deformation. The zircon age is interpreted to be crystallization age of the diorite pluton, which suggests that an Early-Paleozoic magmatic zone indeed existed in the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt stretching along the region south to the Golmud, Normuhong and Xiangride.CHEN Nengsong, SUN Min, ZHANG Kexin & ZHU YunhaiFaculty of Earth Sciences, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan 430074, China Department of Earth Sciences, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, China 2001Chinese Science Bulletin2001,46,4:10
Petrogenesis and tectonic implications of early Paleozoic granitoids in East Kunlun belt: Evidences from geochronology, geochemistry and isotopes显示文摘The East Kunlun Orogenic Belt(EKOB) provides an important link to reconstruct the evolution of the Proto-Tethys and Paleo-Tethys realm. The EKOB is marked by widespread Early Paleozoic magmatism. Here we report the petrology, bulk geochemistry, zircon Ue Pb dating and, Lue Hf and SreN d isotopic data of the Early Paleozoic granitic rocks in Zhiyu area of the southern EKOB. Based on the zircon U-Pb dating, these granitoids, consisting of diorite, granodiorite and monzogranite, were formed during 450 -430 Ma the Late Ordovician to Middle Silurian. The diorite and granodiorite are high Sr/Y ratio as adakitic affinities, and the monzogranite belongs to highly fractionated I-type. Their(^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr)ivalues range from 0.7059 to 0.7085, εNd(t) values from -1.6 to -6.0 and the zircon εHf(t) values show large variations from +9.1 to -8.6 with Hf model ages(T_(DM2)) about 848 Ma and 1970 Ma. The large variations of whole-rock Nd and zircon Hf isotopes demonstrate strong isotopic heterogeneity of the source regions which probably resulted from multi-phase underplating of mantle-derived magmas. Geochemical and isotopic studies proved that the diorite and granodiorite had been derived from partial melting of heterogeneous crustal source with variable contributions from ancient continental crust and juvenile components, and the monzogranites were representing fractional crystallization and crustal contamination for arc magma. The Early Paleozoic adakitic rocks and high-K calc-alkaline granitoids in the southern EKOB were likely emplaced in a continental marginal arc setting possibly linked to the southwards subduction of the Paleo Kunlun Ocean and the magma generation is linked to partial melting of thickened continental crust induced by underplating of mantle-derived magmas.Guochen Dong Mingfei Luo Xuanxue Mo Zhidan Zhao Liangqiong Dong Xuehui Yu Xin Wang Xiaowei Li Xiongfei Huang Yanbin Liu 2018Geoscience Frontiers2018,9,5:10
Overview of China's Antarctic research progress 1984–2016显示文摘It is more than 30 years since the first Chinese National Antarctic Research Expedition(CHINARE) landed in Antarctica in 1984, representing China's initiation in polar research. This review briefly summarizes the Chinese Antarctic scientific research and output accomplished over the past 30 years. The developments and progress in Antarctic research and the enhancement of international scientific cooperation achieved through the implementation of the CHINARE program have been remarkable. Since the 1980 s, four permanent Chinese Antarctic research stations have been established successively and 33 CHINAREs have been completed. The research results have been derived from a series of spatiotemporal observations in association with various projects and multidisciplinary studies in the fields of oceanography, glaciology, geology, geophysics, geochemistry, atmospheric science, upper atmospheric physics, Antarctic astronomy, biology and ecology, human medicine, polar environment observation, and polar engineering.CHEN Liqi LIU Xiaohan BIAN Lingen CHEN Bo HUANG Hongliang HU Hongqiao LUO Wei SHI Guitao SHI Jiuxin XU Chengli YANG Guang ZHAO Yue ZHANG Shaohua 2017Advances in Polar Science2017,28,3:9

Pliocene cyprinids (Cypriniformes,Teleostei) from Kunlun Pass Basin, northeastern Tibetan Plateau and their bearings on development of water system and uplift of the area显示文摘Here described are the cyprinid fossils from the Pliocene Lower Member of Qiangtang Formation of the Kunlun Pass Basin, northeastern Tibetan Plateau, collected at a locality 4769 m above the sea level(asl). The materials consist of numerous disarticulated and incomplete bones as well as thousands of pharyngeal teeth, fin rays, and vertebrae. The fossils were referred to the genus Gymnocypris, lineage Schizothoracini, family Cyprinidae;the lineage Schizothoracini;and the family Cyprinidae respectively. The Schizothoracini is a freshwater fish group endemic to the Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding area.Previous workers on living schizothoracins regarded that Gymnocypris belongs to the highly specialized grade of the group, colonizing higher altitudes than other members of the group. Two species are so far unequivocally assigned to the genus,i.e.,G.przewalskii and G.eckloni, and they are inhabiting Qinghai Lake and the waters on both north(the Golmud River) and south(upper reach of the Yellow River) sides of the East Kunlun Mountain, respectively. The abundant fossil schizothoracins occur in the Kunlun Pass Basin on the southern slope of the East Kunlun Mountain(at 4769 m asl),close to the present Golmud River, indicating comparatively rich waters in the area and possible connections between the water systems on north and south sides of the East Kunlun Mountain during the Pliocene. This also suggests a more humid climate in the area during the Pliocene than it is today. The presence of the highly specialized schizothoracin Gymnocypris may also imply less amplitude of uplift(approximately 1000 m) in the area since the Pliocene than previously proposed.CHANG Mee-mann 2010Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,4:8
Discovery of Paleogene palynological assemblages from the Wanbaogou Group-complex in western part of the Eastern Kunlun orogenic belt and its geological significance显示文摘The Wanbaogou Group-complex is a suit of mélange aggregation of the Eastern Kunlun orogenic belt, which is divided into two parts, i.e. the exotic blocks and the matrix strata. Based on stromatolite fossils yielded in the exotic blocks, the age of this group-complex was once defined to the Precambrian. Recently, two Paleogene palynological assemblages have been found in samples from the matrix strata of the Upper Part in this group-complex by the authors: in ascending order, the Al- nipollenites-Quercoidites assemblage of Late Eocene and the Caryapollenites-Pinuspollenites as- semblage of Early Oligocene. Those results show that the matrix strata of this mélange were mainly formed in Paleogene, and the event causing mixture should be a Himalayan Movement Phase. This paper is designed to provide some detailed evidence for determining the age of the matrix strata in this group-complex based upon study at the Kunlunqiao Section, which would be of important geo- logical significance for further understanding this group-complex as a suit of mélange aggregation and establishing or improving the stratigraphic framework of the studied region. The new finding will cer- tainly benefit from now on the investigation on geotectonic and sedimentary evolution of Eastern Kunlun.GUO Xianpu WANG Naiwen DING Xiaozhong ZHAO Min WANG Daning 2006Science China Earth Sciences2006,49,4:8
