1Update on hepatitis B and C virus diagnosis显示文摘Viral hepatitis B and C virus(HBV and HCV) are responsible for the most of chronic liver disease worldwide and are transmitted by parenteral route, sexual and vertical transmission. One important measure to reduce the burden of these infections is the diagnosis of acute and chronic cases of HBV and HCV. In order to provide an effective diagnosis and monitoring of antiviral treatment, it is important to choose sensitive, rapid, inexpensive, and robust analytical methods. Primary diagnosis of HBV and HCV infection is made by using serological tests for detecting antigens and antibodies against these viruses. In order to confirm primary diagnosis, to quantify viral load, to determine genotypes and resistance mutants for antiviral treatment, qualitative and quantitative molecular tests are used. 2Current application of proteomics in biomarker discoveryfor inflammatory bowel disease显示文摘Recently, the field of proteomics has rapidly expanded in its application towards clinical research with objectives ranging from elucidating disease pathogenesis to discovering clinical biomarkers. As proteins govern and/or reflect underlying cellular processes, the study of proteomics provides an attractive avenue for research as it allows for the rapid identification of protein profiles in a biological sample. Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) encompasses several heterogeneous and chronic conditions of the gastrointestinal tract. Proteomic technology provides a powerful means of addressing major challenges in IBD today, especially for identifying biomarkers to improve its diagnosis and management. This review will examine the current state of IBD proteomics research and its use in biomarker research. Furthermore, we also discuss the challenges of translating proteomic research into clinically relevant tools. 3Theranostic applications:Non-ionizing cellular and molecular imaging through innovative nanosystems for early diagnosis and therapy显示文摘Modern medicine is expanding the possibilities of receiving 'personalized' diagnosis and therapies,providing minimal invasiveness,technological solutions based on non-ionizing radiation,early detection of pathologies with the main objectives of being operator independent and with low cost to society.Our research activities aim to strongly contribute to these trends by improving the capabilities of current diagnostic imaging systems,which are of key importance in possibly providing both optimal diagnosis and therapies to patients.In medical diagnostics,cellular imaging aims to develop new methods and technologies for the detection of specific metabolic processes in living organisms,in order to accurately identify and discriminate normal from pathological tissues.In fact,most diseases have a 'molecular basis' that detected through these new diagnostic methodologies can provide enormous benefits to medicine.Nowadays,this possibility is mainly related to the use of Positron Emission Tomography,with an exposure to ionizing radiation for patients and operators and with extremely high medical diagnosticscosts.The future possible development of non-ionizing cellular imaging based on techniques such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance or Ultrasound,would represent an important step towards modern and personalized therapies.During the last decade,the field of nanotechnology has made important progress and a wide range of organic and inorganic nanomaterials are now available with an incredible number of further combinations with other compounds for cellular targeting.The availability of these new advanced nanosystems allows new scenarios in diagnostic methodologies which are potentially capable of providing morphological and functional information together with metabolic and cellular indications.Sergio Casciaro 2011World Journal of Radiology2011,3,10:2
4Molecular biology techniques for the surgeon显示文摘New technologies are constantly being introduced into the medical and surgical fields. These technologies come in the form of newer medicines, imaging methods and prognostic tools, among others, and allow clinicians to make more rational and informed decisions on the care of their patients. Many of these technologies utilize advanced techniques which are at the forefront of many research fields and represent a transition of bench advances into the clinical realm. This review will highlight four technologies that are at the forefront in the treatment of oncology patients treated by surgeons on a daily basis. Circulating tumor cells, microarray analysis, proteomic studies and rapid sequencing technologies will be highlighted. 5Unresectable stage Ⅲ non-small-cell lung cancer: Have we made any progress?显示文摘Lung cancer is responsible for the most cancer deaths worldwide with an incidence that is still rising. One third of patients have unresectable stage ⅢA or stage ⅢB disease. The standard of care for locally advanceddisease in patients with good performance status consists of combined modality therapy in particular concurrent chemoradiotherapy. But despite a lot of efforts done in the past, local control and survival of patients with unresectable stage Ⅲ non-small-cell lung cancer(NSCLC) remains poor. Improving outcomes for patients with unresectable stage Ⅲ NSCLC has therefore been an area of ongoing research. Research has focused on improving systemic therapy, improving radiation therapy or adding a maintenance therapy to consolidate the initial therapy. Also implementation of newer targeted therapies and immunotherapy has been investigated as well as the option of prophylactic cranial irradiation. This article reviews the latest literature on improving local control and preventing distant metastases. It seems that we have reached a plateau with conventional chemotherapy. Radiotherapy dose escalation did not improve outcome although increasing radiation dose-intensity with new radiotherapy techniques and the use of newer agents, e.g., immunotherapy might be promising. Exploring the internal dynamics of protein molecules as well as its connection to protein structure and function is a central topic in biophysics. However, the atomic motions in protein molecules exhibit a great degree of complexities. These complexities arise from the complex chemical composition and superposition of different types of atomic motions on the similar time scales, and render it challenging to explicitly understand the microscopic mechanism governing protein motions, functions, and their connections. 7When do predatory mites (Phytoseiidae)attack? Understanding their diel and seasonal predation patterns显示文摘Predatory mites of the Phytoseiidae family are considered one of the most important groups of natural enemies used in biological control.The behavioral patterns of arthropods can differ greatly daily and seasonally;however,there is a lack of literature related to Phytoseiidae diel and seasonal predation patterns.The predatory activity of three phytoseiid species (two Tetranychidae-specialists,Phytoseiuluspersimilis and Neoseiulus californicus,and one omnivore,Euseius stipulatus)that occur naturally in Spanish citrus orchards was observed under laboratory conditions in winter and summer.The temperature and photoperiod of the climatic chamber where the mites were reared did not change during the experiment.Our study demonstrates that phytoseiids can exhibit diel and seasonal predatory patterns when feeding on Tetranychus urticae (Acari:Tetranychidae).Neoseiulus californicus was revealed to be a nocturnal predator in summer but diurnal in winter.In contrast,P.persimilis activity was maximal during the daytime,and E.stipulatus showed no clear daily predation patterns.The predatory patterns described in this study should be taken into account when designing laboratory studies and also in field samplings,especially when applying molecular techniques to unveil trophic relationships.Consuelo Perez-Sayas Ernestina Aguilar-Fenollosa Monica A.Hurtado Josep A.Jaques Tatiana Pina 2018Insect Science2018,25,6:0
