1Evaluation of anti-apoptotic activity of different dietary antioxidants in renal cell carcinoma against hydrogen peroxide显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the anti-apoptotic and radical scavenging activities of dietary phenolics, namely ascorbic acid,a-tocopherol acetate,citric acid,salicylic acid,and estimate H_2O_2induced apoptosis in renal cell carcinoma cells.Methods:The intracellular antioxidant potency of antioxidants was investigated.H_2O-2-induced apoptosis in RCC-26 was assayed with the following parameters:cell viability(%apoptosis),nucleosomal damage and DNA fragmentation, bcl-2 levels and flow cytometery analysis(ROS production evaluation).Results:Ine anticancer properties of antioxidants such as ascorbic acid,a- tocopherol acetate,citric acid,salicylic acid with perdurable responses were investigated.It was observed that these antioxidants had protective effect(anti-apoptotic activity) against hydrogen peroxide(H_2O_2) in renal cell carcinoma(RCC-26) cell line.Conclusions:This study reveals and proves the anticancer properties.However,in cancer cell lines anti-apoptotic activity can indirectly reflect the cancer promoter activity through radicals scavenging,and significantly protect nucleus and bcl-2.Garg Neeraj K Mangal Sharad Sahu Tejram Mehta Abhinav Vyas Suresh P Tyagi Rajeev K 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2011,1,1:4

3Gastric intestinal metaplasia development in African American predominant United States population显示文摘BACKGROUND Gastric cancer significantly contributes to cancer mortality globally.Gastric intestinal metaplasia(GIM)is a stage in the Correa cascade and a premalignant lesion of gastric cancer.The natural history of GIM formation and progression over time is not fully understood.Currently,there are no clear guidelines on GIM surveillance or management in the United States.AIM To investigate factors associated with GIM development over time in African American-predominant study population.METHODS This is a retrospective longitudinal study in a single tertiary hospital in Washington DC.We retrieved upper esophagogastroduodenoscopies(EGDs)with gastric biopsies from the pathology department database from January 2015 to December 2020.Patients included in the study had undergone two or more EGDswith gastric biopsy.Patients with no GIM at baseline were followed up until they developed GIM or until the last available EGD.Exclusion criteria consisted of patients age<18,pregnancy,previous diagnosis of gastric cancer,and missing data including pathology results or endoscopy reports.The study population was divided into two groups based on GIM status.Univariate and multivariate Cox regression was used to estimate the hazard induced by patient demographics,EGD findings,and Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)status on the GIM status.RESULTS Of 2375 patients who had at least 1 EGD with gastric biopsy,579 patients were included in the study.138 patients developed GIM during the study follow-up period of 1087 d on average,compared to 857 d in patients without GIM(P=0.247).The average age of GIM group was 64 years compared to 56 years in the non-GIM group(P<0.001).In the GIM group,adding one year to the age increases the risk for GIM formation by 4%(P<0.001).Over time,African Americans,Hispanic,and other ethnicities/races had an increased risk of GIM compared to Caucasians with a hazard ratio(HR)of 2.12(1.16,3.87),2.79(1.09,7.13),and 3.19(1.5,6.76)respectively.No gender difference was observed between the study populations.Gastritis was associated with an increased risk for GIM development with an HR of 1.62(1.07,2.44).On the other hand,H.pylori infection did not increase the risk for GIM.CONCLUSION An increase in age and non-Caucasian race/ethnicity are associated with an increased risk of GIM formation.The effect of H.pylori on GIM is limited in low prevalence areas.Akram I Ahmad Arielle Lee Claire Caplan Colin Wikholm Ioannis Pothoulakis Zaynab Almothafer NishthaRaval Samantha Marshall Ankit Mishra Nicole Hodgins In Guk Kang Raymond K Chang Zachary Dailey Arvin Daneshmand Anjani Kapadia Jae Hak Oh Brittney Rodriguez Abhinav Sehgal Matthew Sweeney Christopher B Swisher Daniel F Childers Corinne O'Connor Lynette M Sequeira Won Cho 2022World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2022,14,10:1

10Industry 4.0 Application in Manufacturing for Real-Time Monitoring and Control显示文摘Modern manufacturing aims to reduce downtime and track process anomalies to make profitable business decisions.This ideology is strengthened by Industry 4.0,which aims to continuously monitor high-value manufacturing assets.This article builds upon the Industry 4.0 concept to improve the efficiency of manufacturing systems.The major contribution is a framework for continuous monitoring and feedback-based control in the friction stir welding(FSW)process.It consists of a CNC manufacturing machine,sensors,edge,cloud systems,and deep neural networks,all working cohesively in real time.The edge device,located near the FSW machine,consists of a neural network that receives sensory information and predicts weld quality in real time.It addresses time-critical manufacturing decisions.Cloud receives the sensory data if weld quality is poor,and a second neural network predicts the new set of welding parameters that are sent as feedback to the welding machine.Several experiments are conducted for training the neural networks.The framework successfully tracks process quality and improves the welding by controlling it in real time.The system enables faster monitoring and control achieved in less than 1 s.The framework is validated through several experiments.Debasish Mishra Ashok Priyadarshi Sarthak M Das Sristi Shree Abhinav Gupta Surjya K Pal Debashish Chakravarty 2022Journal of Dynamics, Monitoring and Diagnostics2022,1,3:0
11A pilot study of glioblastoma multiforme in elderly patients:Treatments,O-6methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) methylation status and survival.显示文摘Objectives: Elderly Glioblastoma multiforme(GBM) patients have a worse prognosis and receive variable treatments.MGMT gene promoter methylation is linked with improved survival in GBM.We examined treatments administered and survival including in relation to MGMT methylation status in elderly GBM patients.Patients and Methods: Patients ≥65 years with diagnosed GBM between 1/01/2007 and 30/04/2009 and undergoing either a biopsy,subtotal(STR) or gross total resection(GTR) were included.The collected information included MGMT status [methylated(ME) vs.unmethylated(UN)] and survival data.P< 0.05 was considered significant.Results: 59 patients were identified with median age at diagnosis being 72.68 years(65.72-85.04).Treatment included surgery(25 GTR,8 STR,26 biopsy),chemoradiation(22) and radiotherapy alone(20).Overall median overall survival(MOS) was 219 days.MOS with chemoradiation was 316 days vs.143 days without it(P=0.011).47 patients had definite MGMT status(28 ME,19 UN).In ME patients,9/28 received temozolamide compared to 10/19 in UN category.Temozolamide administration in patients with definite MGMT status was based on WHO performance status(P=0.007).MOS in UN group was 308 days vs.167 days in ME group(P=0.068).In a multivariate Cox model including use of temozolamide,WHO score and methylation status,only temozolamide use was significantly associated with a reduced risk for death(HR 0.443,95% CI 0.200-0.982,P=0.045).Conclusions: In this small cohort of patients,chemoradiation in suitable elderly GBM patients seemed to afford a survival benefit.MGMT methylation was not associated with an improved survival with temozolamide being the only factor leading to a better survival.Temozolamide use should be considered irrespective of MGMT status in this population with future large prospective studies needed to elucidate this further.Abhinav K Aquilina K Gbejuade H 2013中国神经肿瘤杂志2013,11,1:0
