10Visualization of Methamphetamine-Contaminated Fingermarks on Glass Surfaces by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope for Forensic Investigation显示文摘Background:Fingermark is an individual’s primary identification source.It is helpful in determining individuals involved in illegal activities and is frequently encountered in clandestine laboratories.During forensic investigation,the critical question to be answered is whether a fingermark was left on a surface before or after the initiation of an unlawful activity.Aims and Objectives:This study aimed to investigate the visualization of methamphetamine-contaminated fingermarks on glass surfaces and estimate the immediacy of their depositions.Materials and Methods:In this study,the prior-deposition contaminated fingermarks,i.e.,fingermarks deposited a surface priorly contaminated by methamphetamine,and the postdeposition contaminated fingermarks,i.e.,fingermarks deposited on a clean surface but subsequently contaminated with methamphetamine were visualized and compared using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope(FESEM).Results:Under FESEM,the latent fingermarks and the crystalline structure of methamphetamine were clearly visualized.The postdeposition contaminated fingermarks appeared in smudge conditions in all the three replicate samples,where the ridge and nonridge areas could not be well-distinguished.On the contrary,the prior-deposition contaminated fingermark demonstrated distinct separations between ridges and nonridges.However,the application of fingerprint powders reduced the possibility to determine the immediacy of deposition.Conclusion:To conclude,both prior-deposition contaminated fingermarks and postdeposition contaminated fingermarks can be discriminated,providing information on the instance when a fingermark was left on a surface.Sarah Aliah Amir Sarifudin Kah Haw Chang Bee Ee Khoo Ahmad Fahmi Lim Abdullah 2023Journal of Forensic Science and Medicine2023,9,1:0
11Smart-City-based Data Fusion Algorithm for Internet of Things显示文摘Increasingly,Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs)are contributing enormous amounts of data.Since the recent deployments of wireless sensor networks in Smart City infrastructures,significant volumes of data have been produced every day in several domains ranging from the environment to the healthcare system to transportation.Using wireless sensor nodes,a Smart City environment may now be shown for the benefit of residents.The Smart City delivers intelligent infrastructure and a stimulating environment to citizens of the Smart Society,including the elderly and others.Weak,Quality of Service(QoS)and poor data performance are common problems in WSNs,caused by the data fusion method,where a small amount of bad data can significantly impact the total fusion outcome.In our proposed research,a WSN multisensor data fusion technique employing fuzzy logic for event detection.Using the new proposed Algorithm,sensor nodes will collect less repeated data,and redundant data will be used to increase the data’s overall reliability.The network’s fusion delay problem is investigated,and a minimum fusion delay approach is provided based on the nodes’fusion waiting time.The proposed algorithm performs well in fusion,according to the results of the experiment.As a result of these discoveries,It is concluded that the algorithm describe here is effective and dependable instrument with a wide range of applications.Jawad Khan Muhammad Amir Khan N.Z.Jhanjhi Mamoona Humayun Abdullah Alourani 2022Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,11:0
12Impact of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease on COVID-19 hospitalizations:A propensity-matched analysis of the United States显示文摘BACKGROUND Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease(MASLD),formally known as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease,is the most common chronic liver disease in the United States.Patients with MASLD have been reported to be at a higher risk of developing severe coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)and death.However,most studies are single-center studies,and nationwide data in the AIM To study the influence of MASLD on COVID-19 hospitalizations during the initial phase of the pandemic.METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the 2020 National Inpatient Sample(NIS)database to identify primary COVID-19 hospitalizations based on an underlying diagnosis of MASLD.A matched comparison cohort of COVID-19 hospit-alizations without MASLD was identified from NIS after 1:N propensity score matching based on gender,race,and comorbidities,including hypertension,heart failure,diabetes,and cirrhosis.The primary outcomes included inpatient mortality,length of stay,and hospitalization costs.Secondary outcomes included the prevalence of systemic complications.RESULTS A total of 2210 hospitalizations with MASLD were matched to 2210 hospitalizations without MASLD,with a good comorbidity balance.Overall,there was a higher prevalence of severe disease with more intensive care unit admissions(9.5%vs 7.2%,P=0.007),mechanical ventilation(7.2%vs 5.7%,P=0.03),and septic shock(5.2%vs 2.7%,P<0.001)in the MASLD cohort than in the non-MASLD cohort.However,there was no difference in mortality(8.6%vs 10%,P=0.49),length of stay(5 d vs 5 d,P=0.25),and hospitalization costs(42081.5$vs 38614$,P=0.15)between the MASLD and non-MASLD cohorts.CONCLUSION The presence of MAFLD with or without liver cirrhosis was not associated with increased mortality in COVID-19 hospitalizations;however,there was an increased incidence of severe COVID-19 infection.This data(2020)predates the availability of COVID-19 vaccines,and many MASLD patients have since been vaccinated.It will be interesting to see if these trends are present in the subsequent years of the pandemic.Abdullah Sohail Hassam Ali Pratik Patel Subanandhini Subramanium Dushyant Singh Dahiya Amir H Sohail Manesh Kumar Gangwani Sanjaya K Satapathy 2024World Journal of Virology2024,13,1:0
