3Chemical Composition of Gossypium herbaceum linn and its Antioxidant, Antibacterial, Cytotoxic and Antimalarial Activities显示文摘Background:Gossypium herbaceum(G.herbaceum),a plant commonly found in the wild in Nigeria,is said to possess some therapeutic activities.However,there is a dearth of information on its chemical constituents.Also,there is a need to investigate its therapeutic activities.Objective:To investigate the qualitative and quantitative phytochemical components of the leaf extracts of G.herbaceum,as well as its antioxidant,antimalarial and cytotoxic activity.Methods:Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)analysis was used to determine the components of ethanol and hexane extracts of G.herbaceum leaf while 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)and nitric oxide assays were used to determine the antioxidant potential.Malaria parasites viability was examined using parasite lactate dehydrogenase(pLDH)technique and HeLa cell was used for the cytotoxicity evaluation.Results:Bioactive compounds identified in ethanol and hexane extracts of G.herbaceum were 37 and 30 kinds,respectively,with major components as linoleic acid(36.10%and 33.82%),vitamin E(7.15%and 5.98%)and caryophyllene(4.21%and 5.08%).It also has tannins,saponins,alkaloids,flavonoids steroids,phenols and ter-penoids.In antibacterial test,significant inhibitory potentials against multidrug-resistant bacteria strains were present.In vitro antioxidant potentials(IC 50)of ethanol and hexane extracts were 3.33 and 4.12μg/mL for DPPH assays,and 3.87 and 5.00μg/mL for nitric oxide assays,respectively.Antiplasmodial activities(IC 50)were 9.99 and 9.76μg/mL for ethanol and hexane extracts,respectively.Conclusion:G.herbaceum leaf may provide novel plant-derived therapeutic agents,effective in treating infectious diseases arising from multiple drug-resistant bacteria and a target in the management of oxidative stress.Rotimi Abisoye Larayetan Gideon Ayeni Abdulrazaq Yahaya Abayomi Ajayi Sunday Omale Umar Ishaq Dauda Joseph Abiodun Chijioke Olisah Julius Aigbogun Swesme Enyioma-Alozie 2021Clinical Complementary Medicine and Pharmacology2021,1,1:0
4Mathematical modeling and analysis of meningococcal meningitis transmission dynamics显示文摘Meningococcal meningitis(MCM)is one of the serious public health threats in the tropical and sub-tropical regions.In this paper,we propose an epidemic model to study the transmission dynamics of MCM with high-and low-risk susceptible populations.The model considers two different groups of susceptible individuals depending on the availability of medical resources(MR,including hospitals,health workers,etc.),which varies the infection risk.We find that the model exhibits the phenomenon of backward bifurcation(BB),which increases the difficulty of MCM control since the dynamics are not merely relying on the basic reproduction number,TZo.This study explores the effects of MR on the MCM epidemics by mathematical analysis and shows the existence of BB on MCM disease.Our findings suggest that providing adequate MR in a community is crucial in mitigating MCM incidences and deaths,especially,in the MCM endemic regions.Salihu Sabiu Musa Shi Zhao Nafiu Hussaini Abdulrazaq Carba Habib Daihai He 2020International Journal of Biomathematics2020,13,1:0

6Epigenetics in the etiology and management of infertility显示文摘BACKGROUND Epigenetic disruptions have been implicated in some cases of infertility and can serve as therapeutic targets.However,the involvement of epigenetics in infertility has not received adequate attention.AIM This study aimed to determine the epigenetic basis of infertility in order to enhance public knowledge.METHODS Relevant articles on the subject were collected from PubMed,RCA,Google Scholar,SpringerLink,and Scopus.The articles were pooled together and duplicates were removed using Endnote software.RESULTS Available information shows that epigenetic mechanisms,mainly DNA methylation,histone modification,and microRNA interference are necessary for normal gametogenesis and embryogenesis.As a result,epigenetic disruptions in genes that control gametogenesis and embryogenesis,such as DDX3X,ADH4,AZF,PLAG1,D1RAS3,CYGB,MEST,JMJD1A,KCNQ1,IGF2,H19,and MTHFR may result in infertility.Aberrant DNA methylation during genomic imprinting and parental epigenetic mark erasures,in particular,may affect the DNA epigenomes of sperm and oocytes,resulting in reproductive abnormalities.in the sperm may also cause reproductive abnormalities.Furthermore,overexpression or repression of certain microRNAs embedded in the ovary,testis,embryo,as well as granulosa cells and oocytes may impair reproduction.Male infertility is characterized by spermatogenesis failure,which includes oligozoospermia,asthenozoospermia,and teratozoospermia,while female infertility is characterized by polycystic ovary syndrome.Some epigenetic modifications can be reversed by deactivating the regulatory enzymes,implying that epigenetic reprogramming could help treat infertility in some cases.For some disorders,epigenetic drugs are available,but none have been formulated for infertility.CONCLUSION Some cases of infertility have an epigenetic etiology and can be treated by reversing the same epigenetic mechanism that caused it.As a result,medical practitioners are urged to come up with epigenetic treatments for infertility that have an epigenetic cause.Tajudeen Olanrewaju Yahaya Danlami M Bashar Esther O Oladele Ja'afar Umar Daniel Anyebe Abdulrazaq Izuafa 2022World Journal of Medical Genetics2022,10,2:0
7Cybernet Model:A New Deep Learning Model for Cyber DDoS Attacks Detection and Recognition显示文摘Cyberspace is extremely dynamic,with new attacks arising daily.Protecting cybersecurity controls is vital for network security.Deep Learning(DL)models find widespread use across various fields,with cybersecurity being one of the most crucial due to their rapid cyberattack detection capabilities on networks and hosts.The capabilities of DL in feature learning and analyzing extensive data volumes lead to the recognition of network traffic patterns.This study presents novel lightweight DL models,known as Cybernet models,for the detection and recognition of various cyber Distributed Denial of Service(DDoS)attacks.These models were constructed to have a reasonable number of learnable parameters,i.e.,less than 225,000,hence the name“lightweight.”This not only helps reduce the number of computations required but also results in faster training and inference times.Additionally,these models were designed to extract features in parallel from 1D Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN)and Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM),which makes them unique compared to earlier existing architectures and results in better performance measures.To validate their robustness and effectiveness,they were tested on the CIC-DDoS2019 dataset,which is an imbalanced and large dataset that contains different types of DDoS attacks.Experimental results revealed that bothmodels yielded promising results,with 99.99% for the detectionmodel and 99.76% for the recognition model in terms of accuracy,precision,recall,and F1 score.Furthermore,they outperformed the existing state-of-the-art models proposed for the same task.Thus,the proposed models can be used in cyber security research domains to successfully identify different types of attacks with a high detection and recognition rate.Azar Abid Salih Maiwan Bahjat Abdulrazaq 2024Computers, Materials & Continua2024,78,1:0
