| 1 | Effect of Salicylic Acid on Salinity-induced Changes in Brassica juncea显示文摘Seeds of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea (L.) Czern. et Coss.) were exposed to 0, 50, 100 and 150 mmol/L NaCl for 8 h and seeds were sown in an earthen pot. These stressed seedlings were subsequently sprayed with 10 μmol/L salicylic acid (SA) at 30 d and were sampled at 60 d to assess the changes in growth, photosynthesis and antioxidant enzymes. The seedlings raised from the seeds treated with NaCl had significantly reduced growth and the activities of carbonic anhydrase, nitrate reductase and photosynthesis, and the decrease was proportional to the increase in NaCl concentration. However, the antioxidant enzymes (catalase, peroxidase and superoxide dismutase) and proline content was enhanced in response to NaCl and/or SA treatment, where their interaction had an additive effect. Moreover, the toxic effects generated by the lower concentration of NaCl (50 mmol/L) were completely overcome by the application of SA. | 2 | Epidemic of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) associated hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) incidence is increasing worldwide, paralleling the obesity epidemic. Although most cases are associated with cirrhosis, HCC can occur without cirrhosis in NAFLD. Diabetes and obesity are associated risk factors for HCC in patients. Given the sheer magnitude of the underlying risk factors(diabetes, obesity, non-cirrhotic NAFLD) screening for HCC in the non-cirrhotic population is not recommended. Optimal screening strategies in NAFLD cirrhosis are not completely elucidated with Ultrasound having significant limitations in detection of liver lesions in the presence of obesity and steatosis. Consequently NAFLD-HCC is more often diagnosed at a later stage with larger tumors and reduced opportunities for curative treatments as opposed to HCC in other causes of cirrhosis. When HCC is found at a curative stage treatments including liver transplantation, resection and loco-regional therapies are associated with good results similar to that seen in HCV-HCC. Future strategies under study include the use of chemopreventive and antioxidant agents to reduce development of cirrhosis and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH). Strategies to reverse NASH via weight loss, control of associated conditions like diabetes are key strategies in reducing the increasing incidence of NASH-HCC. | 4 | Mortality and morbidity in patients with atrial fibrillation and liver cirrhosis显示文摘BACKGROUND Atrial fibrillation(AF)is the most common cardiac arrhythmia encountered in clinical practice.However,the outcomes associated with AF in hospitalized patients with liver cirrhosis are unknown.AIM To determine the outcomes of hospitalized patients with liver cirrhosis and AF.METHODS In this study,we examined morbidity and mortality of patients with concomitant AF and liver cirrhosis from the National Inpatient Sample database,the largest publicly available inpatient healthcare database in the United States.RESULTS A total of 696937 patients with liver cirrhosis were included,45745 of whom had concomitant AF(6.6%).Liver cirrhosis patients with AF had higher rates of inhospital mortality(12.6%vs 10.3%,P<0.001),clinical stroke(1.6%vs 1.1%,P<0.001),and acute kidney injury(28.2%vs 25.1%,P<0.001),and less gastrointestinal bleeding(4.4%vs 5.1%,P<0.001)and blood transfusion(22.5%vs 23.8%,P<0.001)compared with those who did not have the arrhythmia.In addition,they had a longer length of stay(8±10 d vs 7±8 d,P<0.001)and higher hospitalization costs(20720±33210$vs 16272±24166$,P<0.001).CONCLUSION In subjects with liver cirrhosis,AF is associated with higher rates of inpatient mortality,stroke,and acute kidney injury compared to those who do not have the cardiac arrhythmia. | Yousef H Darrat Aiman Smer Claude-Samy Elayi Gustavo X Morales Fahad Alqahtani Mohamad Alkhouli John Catanzaro Jignesh Shah Mohsin Salih | 2020 | World Journal of Cardiology2020，12，7： | 2 |

| 6 | Six month abstinence rule for liver transplantation in severe alcoholic liver disease patients显示文摘Alcoholic liver disease(ALD) is the second most common diagnosis among patients undergoing liver transplantation(LT).The recovery results of patients transplanted for ALD are often at least as good as those of patients transplanted for other diagnoses and better than those suffering from hepatitis C virus, cryptogenic cirrhosis, or hepatocellular carcinoma.Inthe case of medically non-responding patients with severe acute alcoholic hepatitis or acute-on chronic liver failure, the refusal of LT is often based on the lack of the required alcohol abstinence period of six months.The obligatory abidance of a period of abstinence as a transplant eligibility requirement for medically non-responding patients seems unfair and inhumane, since the majority of these patients will not survive the six-month abstinence period.Data from various studies have challenged the 6-mo rule, while excellent survival results of LT have been observed in selected patients with severe alcoholic hepatitis not responding to medical therapy.Patients with severe advanced ALD should have legal access to LT.The mere lack of pre-LT abstinence should not be an obstacle for being listed. | Aiman Obed Steffen Stern Anwar Jarrad Thomas Lorf | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015，21，14： | 2 |
