| 1 | Risk modification of colorectal cancer susceptibility by interleukin-8-251T>A polymorphism in Malaysians显示文摘AIM: To investigate the allele and genotype frequencies and associated risk of interleukin (IL)-8-251T>A polymorphism on colorectal cancer (CRC) susceptibility risk. METHODS: Peripheral blood samples of 255 normal controls and 255 clinically and histopathologically confirmed CRC patients were genotyped for IL-8-251T>A polymorphism employing allele-specific polymerase chain reaction. The relative association of variant allele and genotypes with CRC susceptibility risk was determined by calculating the odds ratios (ORs). Corresponding χ 2 tests on the CRC patients and controls were carried out and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were determined using Fisher's exact test. The allele frequencies and its risk association were calculated using FAMHAP, haplotype association analysis software. RESULTS: On comparing the frequencies of genotypesof patients and controls, the homozygous variant AA was significantly higher in CRC patients (P = 0.002) compared to controls. Investigation on the association of the polymorphic genotypes with CRC susceptibility risk, showed that the homozygous variant IL-8 -251AA had a significantly increased risk with OR 3.600 (95% CI: 1.550-8.481, P = 0.001). In the case of allele frequencies, variant allele A of IL-8 -251 showed a significantly increased risk of CRC predisposition with OR 1.32 (95% CI: 1.03-1.69,P = 0.003). | 6 | Non-adherence to Anti-retroviral Therapy among HIV-Infected Individuals in Kyrgyzstan:Prevalence and Risk Factors,2014-2016显示文摘Backgrounds:Currently in Kyrgyzstan,ART(antiretroviral therapy)is freely provided to HIV-infected individuals on clinical grounds.Strict adherence to ART is required,it improves HIV-infected individuals’survival and quality of life,prevents HIV transmission and drug resistance.Our study aims to identify the prevalence of non-adherence to ART therapy and factors associated with it so that strategies can be designed to help maintain adherence.Methods:In a retrospective cohort study,we enrolled randomly selected 432 individuals,≥18 years of age,from among all HIV-infected individuals in Kyrgyzstan(n=950)who started ART during Jan.2014-Sep.2016.All were followed up until Dec.2016.Non-adherents were:(1)individuals lost to follow-up;(2)individuals who missed≥4.5 days of treatment per 30 days during the study period-this was established by comparing the total tablets prescribed,dates of visits for treatment,and number of tablets consumed.We reviewed the country’s HIV surveillance data and medical facilities records.We collected information on the known non-adherent risk factors,HIV clinical presentation,and details of treatment-regimens.We used logistic regression to assess the risk factors and non-adherent associations.Results:The overall non-adherence rate was 50%(214/432).In sub-group analysis,the highest rate was:61%(50/82)among alcohol abusers,60%(65/109)in those who received≥2 tablets/dose,59%(44/75)in those receiving≥2 doses/day,57%(89/155)in drug users,and 53%(144/271)in individuals aged<40 years.In multivariate analysis,≥2 tablets/dose(OR=2.1,95%CI 1.0-4.1),age<40 years(OR=1.7,95%CI 1.1-2.6),and alcohol abuse(OR=1.6,95%CI 1-2.8)were associated with non-adherence.Conclusion:The observed non-adherence rate is unacceptably high.Adherence can be improved by introducing the one tablet/day treatment regimen,establishing regular contact with those under ART,and providing them with appropriate counseling,especially those<40 years of age or with substance abuse. | Aisuluu Kubatova Aizat Arunova UKKadyrbekov Simon Ajeilat | 2020 | Journal of Health Science2020,8,1: | 0 |
| 7 | XPC Lys939Gln polymorphism, smoking and risk of sporadic colorectal cancer among Malaysians显示文摘AIM: To investigate the risk association of xeroderma pigmentosum group C (XPC ) Lys939Gln polymorphism alone and in combination with cigarette smoking on colorectal cancer (CRC) predisposition. METHODS: Peripheral blood samples of 510 study subjects (255 CRC patients, 255 controls)were collected. DNA was extracted and genotyping was performed using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. The association between polymorphic genotype and CRC predisposition was determined using the OR and 95%CI. RESULTS: The frequency of the homozygous variant (Gln/Gln) genotype was significantly higher in cases compared with controls (16.0% vs 10.2%, P = 0.049). The Gln/Gln genotype of XPC showed a significantly higher association with the risk of CRC (OR = 1.884; 95%CI: 1.082-3.277; P = 0.025). In the case of allele frequencies, variant allele C was associated with a significantly increased risk of CRC (OR = 1.375; 95%CI: 1.050-1.802; P = 0.020). Moreover, the risk was markedly higher for those who were carriers of the Gln/Gln variant genotype and were also cigarette smokers (OR = 3.409; 95%CI: 1.061-10.949; P = 0.032). | 8 | Source characteristics and genesis of Sb mineralization from the Au and Sb deposits of the Youjiang Basin,SW China:constraints from stibnite trace element and isotope geochemistry显示文摘The Youjiang Basin is characterized by a wide distribution of Au and Sb deposits.These deposits are mainly hosted by sedimentary rocks from Cambrian to Triassic and are structurally controlled by faults and folds.Three types of Sb mineralization can be distinguished based on geologic characteristics,economic metals,and mineral associations.The first type is dominated by Sb mineralization but contains minor or little Au,similar to the large Qinglong deposit.The second type has a spatial association with the gold deposit but formed independent Sb mineralization,reminiscent of the Badu deposit.In the third type,Sb generally formed as an accompanying element in the Carlin-type gold deposit,and stibnite occurred as euhedral crystals filling the open space and faults in the late stage of gold mineralization,analogous to the Yata deposit.Trace element concentrations and sulfur isotopic ratio of stibnite,and oxygen isotope of stibnite bearing quartz were analyzed to infer the ore source(s)for Sb mineralization and genesis.To distinguish the various types of stibnite mineralization between the deposits,Cu,Pb,and As have recognized most diagnostic,with an elevated concentration in Au and Au-Sb deposits and depleted in Sb deposit.Theδ34S isotopic composition of stibnite samples from three deposits show a wide variation,ranging from-6.6%to+17.45%.Such isotopic values may indicate the sedimentary sulfur source,introduced by fluid–rock interaction.On the other hand,fluid mixing of several end members cannot be excluded.The calculatedδ18O isotopic data of Sb-bearing quartz show the initial ore fluid in Au and Au-Sb deposits most likely have a magmatic or metamorphic origin that enriched during fluid–rock interaction,and Sb deposit characterized by initial meteoric water.From these data,we proposed that different lithologies,fluid–rock interaction,fluid pathways,and different ore fluids controlled the compositional evolution of fluids,which might be the main reason for the diversity of Au or Sb mineralization. | Aizat Zhaanbaeva Keqiang Peng Abiola Oyebamiji Kyiazbek Asilbekov | 2021 | Acta Geochimica2021,40,5: | 0 |
