| 16 | Type XIX collagen: a promising biomarker from the basement membranes显示文摘Among collagen members in the collagen superfamily,type XIX collagen has raised increasing interest in relation to its structural and biological roles.Type XIX collagen is a Fibril-Associated Collagen with Interrupted Triple helices member,one main subclass of collagens in this superfamily.This collagen contains a triple helix composed of three polypeptide segments aligned in parallel and it is associated with the basement membrane zone in different tissues.The molecular structure of type XIX collagen consists of five collagenous domains,COL1 to COL5,interrupted by six non-collagenous domains,NCI to NC6.The most relevant domain by which this collagen exerts its biological roles is NCI domain that can be cleavage enzymatically to release matricryptins,exerting anti-tumor and anti-angiogenic effect in murine and human models of cancer.Under physiological conditions,type XIX collagen expression decreases after birth in different tissues although it is necessary to keep its basal levels,mainly in skeletal muscle and hippocampal and telencephalic interneurons in brain.Notwithstanding,in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,altered transcript expression levels show a novel biological effect of this collagen beyond its structural role in basement membranes and its anti-tumor and anti-angiogenic properties.Type XIX collagen can exert a compensatory effect to ameliorate the disease progression under neurodegenerative conditions specific to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in transgenic SOD1 G93 A mice and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients.This novel biological role highlights its nature as prognostic biomarker of disease progression in and as promising therapeutic target,paving the way to a more precise prognosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. | Ana C.Calvo Laura Moreno Leticia Moreno Janne M.Toivonen Raquel Manzano Nora Molina Miriam de la Torre Tresa López Francisco J.Miana-Mena María J.Munoz Pilar Zaragoza Pilar Larrodé Alberto García-Redondo Rosario Osta | 2020 | Neural Regeneration Research2020,15,6: | 0 |
| 17 | Global longitudinal strain is superior to ejection fraction for detecting myocardial dysfunction in end-stage renal disease with hyperparathyroidism显示文摘BACKGROUND The estimation of left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)by 2D echocardiography(2D-ECHO)is the most used tool to assess LV systolic function(LVSF).Global longitudinal strain(GLS)has recently been suggested as a superior method for several evaluations.This study explored the association and prevalence of LV systolic dysfunction(LVSD)by using these methods in patients with end-stage renal disease(ESRD)and severe hyperparathyroidism(SHPTH);both associated with cardiovascular events(CEs).AIM To evaluate the myocardial function in patients with ESRD and SHPTH by using the GLS and LVEF measured through conventional 2D-ECHO.METHODS In 62 patients with ESRD and SHPTH,asymptomatic,and without a history of CEs,LVSF was evaluated by 2D-ECHO,obtaining the EF,by the Simpson biplane method,and GLS by speckle tracking.RESULTS The total patients with ESRD had a preserved LVEF(>50%)but abnormal GLS(<13.55%).Additionally,multivariate analysis showed an independent association of GLS and serum parathyroid hormone(PTH),LV mass index,and hemoglobin.Also,PTH was independently associated with lateral e'wave and tricuspid regurgitation velocity.CONCLUSION In patients with SHPTH linked to ESRD,the use of GLS by 2D-ECHO is a more sensitive tool than LVEF for detecting LVSD. | Maria Fernanda Carrasco-Ruiz Antonio Ruiz-Rivera Marvin A Soriano-Ursúa Carlos Martinez-Hernandez Leticia Manuel-Apolinar Carmen Castillo-Hernandez Gustavo Guevara-Balcazar Eunice D Farfán-García Ana Mejia-Ruiz Ivan Rubio-Gayosso Teresa Perez-Capistran | 2022 | World Journal of Cardiology2022,14,4: | 0 |

| 20 | Effects of cropland abandonment and afforestation on soil redistribution in a small Mediterranean mountain catchment显示文摘In slopes of Mediterranean mid-mountain areas,land use and land cover changes linked to the aban-donment of cropland activity affect soil quality and degradation and soil redistribution;however,limited attention has been paid to this issue at catchment scale.This paper evaluates the effects of cropland abandonment and post-land abandonment management(through natural revegetation and afforesta-tion)on soil redistribution rates using fallout ^(137)Cs measurements in the Araguás catchment(0.45 km^(2),Central Spanish Pyrenees).A total of 52 soil core samples,distributed in a regular grid,from the first 30-40 cm and 9 sectioned reference samples were collected across the catchment and soil properties were analysed.Fallout ^(137)Cs was measured in a 5 cm sectioned references samples and in bulk grid samples.^(137)Cs inventories were used to estimate soil erosion and deposition rates across the catchment.Results show that the highest erosion rates were recorded under sparsely vegetated sites in the badland area,while the lowest rates were found in the afforested area,but no significant differences were observed between the different uses and covers in soil redistribution rates likely due to a long history of human intervention through cultivation in steep slopes and afforestation practices.However,the recovery of the soil organic matter in afforested areas suggest that afforestation can reduce soil degradation at long-term scale.The information gained achieve a better understanding of soil redistribution dynamics and provide knowledge for effective land management after cropland abandonment of agroecosystems in Mediter-ranean mountain areas. | Makki Khorchani Leticia Gaspar Estela Nadal-Romero Jose Arnaez Teodoro Lasanta Ana Navas | 2023 | International Soil and Water Conservation Research2023,11,2: | 0 |
