1Tribological Properties of Nanostructured Al/Al_(12)(Fe,V)_3Si Alloys显示文摘Tribological behavior of nanostructured pure Al and Al–Al12(Fe,V)3Si alloys containing 27(FVS0812) and 37(FVS1212) vol% of Al12(Fe,V)3Si precipitates was investigated. All samples were prepared using mechanical alloying followed by hot pressing. Wear tests were performed at room temperature using a pin-on-disk machine. Results showed that the presence of Al12(Fe,V)3Si precipitates increases the wear resistance of nanostructured Al, and the wear resistance increases with increasing the Al12(Fe,V)3Si content. Scanning electron microscopy images of worn surfaces and wear debris demonstrated that abrasion and adhesion are the governing wear mechanisms for the nanostructured FVS0812 alloy at 2 and 5 N normal loads, whereas for the nanostructured FVS1212 alloy, the dominant wear mechanism is abrasion at these loads. A mechanically mixed layer(MML) containing Fe and O was formed on the worn surfaces of FVS0812 and FVS1212 samples at 10 N normal load. Formation and delamination of MML controls the wear behavior of these samples at the normal load of 10 N. 3Risk factors of regression and undercorrection in photorefractive keratectomy: a case-control study显示文摘AIM: To determine risk factors of regression and undercorrection following photorefractive keratectomy(PRK) in myopia or myopic astigmatism.·METHODS: A case-control study was designed in which eyes with an indication for re-treatment(RT) were defined as cases; primary criteria for RT indication, as assessed at least 9mo postoperatively, included an uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA) of 20/30 or worse and a stable refraction for more than 3mo.Additional considerations included optical quality symptoms and significant higher order aberrations(HOAs). Controls were chosen from the same cohort of operated eyes which had complete post-operative follow up data beyond 9mo and did not need RT. The cohort included patients who had undergone PRK by the Tissue-Saving(TS) ablation profile of Technolas 217z100 excimer laser(Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, NY, USA).Mitomycin C had been used in all of the primary procedures.·RESULTS: We had 70 case eyes and 158 control eyes,and they were comparable in terms of age, sex and follow-up time(P values: 0.58, 1.00 and 0.89,respectively). Pre-operative spherical equivalent of more than-5.00 diopter(D), intended optical zone(OZ)diameter of less than 6.00 mm and ocular fixation instability during laser ablation were associated with RT indications(all P values <0.001). 4Clinical disease registries in acute myocardial infarction显示文摘Disease registries,containing systematic records of cases,have for nearly 100 years been valuable in exploring and understanding various aspects of cardiology. This is particularly true for myocardial infarction,where such registries have provided both epidemiological and clinical information that was not readily available from randomised controlled trials in highlyselected populations. Registries,whether mandated or voluntary,prospective or retrospective in their analysis,have at their core a common study population and common data definitions. 5Orbital-angular-momentum-based reconfigurable optical switching and routing显示文摘Orbital angular momentum(OAM) has gained interest due to its potential to increase capacity in optical communication systems as well as an additional domain for reconfigurable networks. This is due to the following:(i) coaxially propagated OAM beams with different charges are mutually orthogonal,(ii) OAM beams can be efficiently multiplexed and demultiplexed, and(iii) OAM charges can be efficiently manipulated. Therefore, multiple data-carrying OAM beams could have the potential capability for reconfigurable optical switching and routing. 7High-density linkage map construction and identification of loci regulating fruit quality traits in blueberry显示文摘Fruit quality traits play a significant role in consumer preferences and consumption in blueberry(Vaccinium corymbosum L).The objectives of this study were to construct a high-density linkage map and to identify the underlying genetic basis of fruit quality traits in blueberry.A total of 287 F_(1) individuals derived from a cross between two southern highbush blueberry cultivars,‘Reveille’and‘Arlen’,were phenotyped over three years(2016–2018)for fruit quality-related traits,including titratable acidity,pH,total soluble solids,and fruit weight.A high-density linkage map was constructed using 17k single nucleotide polymorphisms markers.The linkage map spanned a total of 1397 cM with an average inter-loci distance of 0.08 cM.The quantitative trait loci interval mapping based on the hidden Markov model identified 18 loci for fruit quality traits,including seven loci for fruit weight,three loci for titratable acidity,five loci for pH,and three loci for total soluble solids.Ten of these loci were detected in more than one year.These loci explained phenotypic variance ranging from 7 to 28% for titratable acidity and total soluble solid,and 8-13% for pH.However,the loci identified for fruit weight did not explain more than 10%of the phenotypic variance.We also reported the association between fruit quality traits and metabolites detected by Proton nuclear magnetic resonance analysis directly responsible for these fruit quality traits.Organic acids,citric acid,and quinic acid were significantly(P<0.05)and positively correlated with titratable acidity.Sugar molecules showed a strong and positive correlation with total soluble solids.Overall,the study dissected the genetic basis of fruit quality traits and established an association between these fruit quality traits and metabolites.Molla F.Mengist Hamed Bostan Elisheba Young Kristine L.Kay Nicholas Gillitt James Ballington Colin D.Kay Mario G.Ferruzzi Hamid Ashrafi Mary Ann Lila Massimo Iorizzo 2021Horticulture Research2021,8,1:2

9An optimized protocol for stepwise optimization of real-time RT-PCR analysis显示文摘Computational tool-assisted primer design for real-time reverse transcription(RT)PCR(qPCR)analysis largely ignores the sequence similarities between sequences of homologous genes in a plant genome.It can lead to false confidence in the quality of the designed primers,which sometimes results in skipping the optimization steps for qPCR.However,the optimization of qPCR parameters plays an essential role in the efficiency,specificity,and sensitivity of each gene’s primers.Here,we proposed an optimized approach to sequentially optimizing primer sequences,annealing temperatures,primer concentrations,and cDNA concentration range for each reference(and target)gene.Our approach started with a sequence-specific primer design that should be based on the single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)present in all the homologous sequences for each of the reference(and target)genes under study.By combining the efficiency calibrated and standard curve methods with the 2−ΔΔCt method,the standard cDNA concentration curve with a logarithmic scale was obtained for each primer pair for each gene.As a result,an R 2≥0.9999 and the efficiency(E)=100±5% should be achieved for the best primer pair of each gene,which serve as the prerequisite for using the 2^(−ΔΔCt) method for data analysis.We applied our newly developed approach to identify the best reference genes in different tissues and at various inflorescence developmental stages of Tripidium ravennae,an ornamental and biomass grass,and validated their utility under varying abiotic stress conditions.We also applied this approach to test the expression stability of six reference genes in soybean under biotic stress treatment with Xanthomonas axonopodis pv.glycines(Xag).Thus,these case studies demonstrated the effectiveness of our optimized protocol for qPCR analysis.Fangzhou Zhao Nathan A.Maren Pawel Z.Kosentka Ying-Yu Liao Hongyan Lu James R.Duduit Debao Huang Hamid Ashrafi Tuanjie Zhao Alejandra I.Huerta Thomas G.Ranney Wusheng Liu 2021Horticulture Research2021,8,1:2
103D point cloud data to quantitatively characterize size and shape of shrub crops显示文摘Size and shape are important properties of shrub crops such as blueberries,and they can be particularly useful for evaluating bush architecture suited to mechanical harvesting.The overall goal of this study was to develop a 3D imaging approach to measure size-related traits and bush shape that are relevant to mechanical harvesting.3D point clouds were acquired for 367 bushes from five genotype groups.Point cloud data were preprocessed to obtain clean bush points for characterizing bush architecture,including bush morphology(height,width,and volume),crown size,and shape descriptors(path curveλand five shape indices).One-dimensional traits(height,width,and crown size)had high correlations(R^(2)=0.88–0.95)between proposed method and manual measurements,whereas bush volume showed relatively lower correlations(R^(2)=0.78–0.85).These correlations suggested that the present approach was accurate in measuring one-dimensional size traits and acceptable in estimating three-dimensional bush volume.Statistical results demonstrated that the five genotype groups were statistically different in crown size and bush shape.The differences matched with human evaluation regarding optimal bush architecture for mechanical harvesting.In particular,a visualization tool could be generated using crown size and path curveλ,which showed great potential of determining bush architecture suitable for mechanical harvesting quickly.Therefore,the processing pipeline of 3D point cloud data presented in this study is an effective tool for blueberry breeding programs(in particular for mechanical harvesting)and farm management.Yu Jiang Changying Li Fumiomi Takeda Elizabeth A.Kramer Hamid Ashrafi Jamal Hunter 2019Horticulture Research2019,6,1:2

14Transparent conductive oxide-gated silicon microring with extreme resonance wavelength tunability显示文摘Transparent conductive oxides have attracted escalating research interest for integrated photonic devices and metasurfaces due to the extremely large electro-optic modulation of the refractive index by the free-carrier-induced plasma dispersion effect. In this paper, we have designed and fabricated a silicon microring resonator using an indium-tin oxide gate as the electric-tuning electrode. It achieved an ultralarge resonance wavelength tunability of 271 pm/V, which is obtained through the reduced width of the ring waveguide and a high-dielectric-constant Hf O2 insulator. 15Fabrication and characterization of nanocrystalline Al/Al_(12)(Fe,V)_3Si alloys by consolidation of mechanically alloyed powders显示文摘The aim of this study was to produce bulk nanocrystalline Al/Al_(12)(Fe,V)_3Si alloys by mechanical alloying(MA) and subsequent hot pressing(HP) of elemental powders.A nanostructured Al-based solid solution was formed by MA of elemental powders for 60 h.After HP of the as-milled powders at 550℃ for 20 min,the Al_(12)(Fe,V)_3Si phase was precipitated in a nanocrystalline Al matrix.Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) images of the bulk samples represented a homogeneous and uniform microstructure that was superior to those previously obtained by rapid solidification-powder metallurgy(RS-PM).Nanostructured Al-8.5Fe-1.3V-1.7Si and Al-11.6Fe-1.3V-2.3Si alloys exhibited high HV hardness values of^205 and ~254,respectively,which are significantly higher than those reported for the RS-PM counterparts.Hamid Ashrafi Rahmatollah Emadi Mohammad Hosein Enayati 2014International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2014,21,7:2
16Phytochemical screening and evaluation of cytotoxic and hypoglycemic properties of Mangifera indica peels显示文摘Objective: To investigate the presence of different phytoconstituents in Mangifera indica(M. indica) peel and evaluate its cytotoxicity to Artemia salina and hypoglycemic potential in Swiss albino mice.Methods: The methanolic extract of M. indica peel was used to determine the presence of phytoconstituents. Brine shrimp lethality bioassay method was followed to determine the cytotoxic potential of plant extract. In the case of hypoglycemic activity, oral administration of extract at 200 and 400 mg/kg and standard glibenclamide at 10 mg/kg was done, followed by determining the percentage of reduction of plasma glucose from the initial level.Results: The methanolic extract of M. indica peel showed the presence of flavonoid,saponin, steroid, tannins, terpenoids, glycosides and alkaloids. In brine shrimp lethality bioassay, the LC_(50) of the extract and standard vincristine sulfate was found to be 2.04 and0.41 mg/mL, respectively. After 90 and 150 min, the methanolic extract at 200 and 400 mg/kg showed prominent plasma glucose reduction of 13.95%, 22.48% and 14.16%,26.18% respectively compared to standard glibenclamide showing 14.90% and 20.67% plasma glucose reduction.Conclusions: This current research affirms prominent cytotoxic and moderate hypoglycemic potential of M. indica peel.
