1Diffusion weighted magnetic resonance imaging of liver: Principles, clinical applications and recent updates显示文摘Diffusion-weighted imaging(DWI), a functional imaging technique exploiting the Brownian motion of water molecules, is increasingly shown to have value in various oncological and non-oncological applications. Factors such as the ease of acquisition and ability to obtain functional information in the absence of intravenous contrast, especially in patients with abnormal renal function, have contributed to the growing interest in exploring clinical applications of DWI. In the liver, DWI demonstrates a gamut of clinical applications ranging from detecting focal liver lesions to monitoring response in patients undergoing serial follow-up after loco-regional and systemic therapies. DWI is also being applied in the evaluation of diffuse liver diseases such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, hepatic fibrosis and cirrhosis. 2Sol-gel synthesis and characterization of hydroxyapatite nanorods显示文摘In the present study hydroxyapatite (HA) nano-hexagonal rods with 70-90 nm diameter and 400-500 nm length are synthesized using a simple sol-gel route with calcium nitrate and potassium dihydrogenphos-phate as calcium and phosphorus precursors respectively. Deionized water was used as a diluting media for HA sol preparation and ammonia was used to adjust the pH=9. After aging, the HA gel was dried at 60 ℃ and calcined at different temperatures ranging from 300 to 700 ℃. The dried and calcined powders were characterized for phase composition using X-ray diffractrometry, elemental dispersive X-ray and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Rietveld analysis showed the calcined HA powders of high purity with a hexagonal unit cell structure. Calcination yielded HA nanopowders of increased particle size and crystallinity with increase in temperature. The particle size and morphology was studied using transmission electron microscopy. 3Predictive value of multi-detector computed tomography for accurate diagnosis of serous cystadenoma:Radiologic-pathologic correlation显示文摘AIM:To identify multi-detector computed tomography(MDCT) features most predictive of serous cystadenomas(SCAs),correlating with histopathology,and to study the impact of cyst size and MDCT technique on reader performance.METHODS:The MDCT scans of 164 patients with surgically verified pancreatic cystic lesions were reviewed by two readers to study the predictive value of various morphological features for establishing a diagnosis of SCAs.Accuracy in lesion characterization and reader conf idence were correlated with lesion size(≤3cm or≥3cm) and scanning protocols(dedicated vs routine).RESULTS:28/164 cysts(mean size,39 mm;range,8-92mm) were diagnosed as SCA on pathology.The MDCT features predictive of diagnosis of SCA were microcystic appearance(22/28,78.6%),surface lobulations(25/28,89.3%) and central scar(9/28,32.4%).Stepwise logistic regression analysis showed that only microcystic appearance was signifi cant for CT diagnosis of SCA(P=0.0001).The sensitivity,specificity and PPV of central scar and of combined microcystic appearance and lobulations were 32.4%/100%/100% and 68%/100%/100%,respectively.The reader confidence was higher for lesions>3cm(P=0.02) and for MDCT scans performed using thin collimation(1.25-2.5mm) compared to routine 5 mm collimation exams(P>0.05).CONCLUSION:Central scar on MDCT is diagnostic of SCA but is seen in only one third of SCAs.Microcystic morphology is the most significant CT feature in diagnosis of SCA.A combination of microcystic appearance and surface lobulations offers accuracy comparable to central scar with higher sensitivity.Anjuli A Shah Nisha I Sainani Avinash Kambadakone Ramesh Zarine K Shah Vikram Deshpande Peter F Hahn Dushyant V Sahani 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,22:11
4Epithelial ovarian cancer:An overview显示文摘Ovarian cancer is the second most common gyneco-logical cancer and the leading cause of death in the United States. In this article we review the diagnosis and current management of epithelial ovarian cancer which accounts for over 95 percent of the ovarian malignancies. We will present various theories about the potential origin of ovarian malignancies. We will discuss the genetic anomalies and syndromes that may cause ovarian cancers with emphasis on Breast cancer type 1/2 mutations. The pathology and pathogenesis of ovarian carcinoma will also be presented. 5Phacoemulsification versus small incision cataract surgery in patients with uveitis显示文摘AIM: To compare the safety and efficacy of phacoemulsification and small incision cataract surgery(SICS) in patients with uveitic cataract.·METHODS: In a prospective, randomized multi-centric study, consecutive patients with uveitic cataract were randomized to receive phacoemulsification or manual SICS by either of two surgeons well versed with both the techniques. A minimum inflammation free period of 3mo(defined as less than 5 cells per high power field in anterior chamber) was a pre-requisite for eligibility for surgery. Superior scleral tunnel incisions were used for both techniques. Improvement in visual acuity post-operatively was the primary outcome measure and the rate of post-operative complications and surgical time were secondary outcome measures, respectively. Means of groups were compared using t-tests. One way analysis of variance(ANOVA) was used when there were more than two groups. Chi-square tests were used for proportions. Kaplan Meyer survival analysis was done and means for survival time was estimated at 95%confidence interval(CI). A P value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant.·RESULTS: One hundred and twenty-six of 139 patients(90.6%) completed the 6-month follow-up. Seven patients were lost in follow up and another six excluded due to either follow-up less than six months(n=1) or inability implant an intraocular lens(IOL) because of insufficient capsular support following posterior capsule rupture(n=5). There was significant improvement in vision after both the procedures(paired t-test; P <0.001). On first postoperative day, uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA) was 20/63 or better in 31(47%)patients in Phaco group and 26(43.3%) patients in SICS group(P=0.384). The mean surgically inducedastigmatism(SIA) was 0.86 ±0.34 dioptres(D) in the phacoemulsification group and 1.16 ±0.28 D in SICS group. The difference between the groups was significant(t-test, P =0.002). At 6mo, corrected distance visual acuity(CDVA) was 20/60 or better in 60(90.9%) patients in Phaco group and 53(88.3%) in the manual SICS group(P =0.478). The mean surgical time was significantly shorter in the manual SICS group(10.8±2.9 versus 13.2±2.6min)(P <0.001). Oral prednisolone, 1 mg/kg body weight was given 7d prior to surgery, continued post-operatively and tapered according to the inflammatory response over 4-6wk in patients with previously documented macular edema, recurrent uveitis, chronic anterior uveitis and intermediate uveitis. Rate of complications like macular edema(Chi-square, P =0.459),persistent uveitis(Chi-square, P =0.289) and posterior capsule opacification(Chi-square, P =0.474) were comparable between both the groups.·CONCLUSION: Manual SICS and phacoemulsification do not differ significantly in complication rates and final CDVA outcomes. However, manual SICS is significantly faster. It may be the preferred technique in settings where surgical volume is high and access to phacoemulsification is limited, such as in eye camps. 8Hepatic stem cells: A viable approach for the treatment of liver cirrhosis显示文摘Liver cirrhosis is characterized by distortion of liver architecture, necrosis of hepatocytes and regenerative nodules formation leading to cirrhosis. Various types of cell sources have been used for the management and treatment of decompensated liver cirrhosis.Knowledge of stem cells has offered a new dimension for regenerative therapy and has been considered as one of the potential adjuvant treatment modality in patients with end stage liver diseases(ESLD). Human fetal hepatic progenitor cells are less immunogenic than adult ones. They are highly propagative and challenging to cryopreservation. In our earlier studies we have demonstrated that fetuses at 10-18 wk of gestation age contain a large number of actively dividing hepatic stem and progenitor cells which possess bipotent nature having potential to differentiate into bile duct cells and mature hepatocytes. Hepatic stem cell therapy for the treatment of ESLD is in their early stage of the translation. The emerging technology of decellularization and recellularization might offer a significant platform for developing bioengineered personalized livers to come over the scarcity of desired number of donor organs for the treatment of ESLD. Despite these significant advancements long-term tracking of stem cells in human is the most important subject nowadays in order to answer several unsettles issues regarding the route of delivery, the choice of stem cell type(s), the cell number and the timepoint of cell delivery for the treatment in a chronic setting. Answering to these questions will further contribute to the development of safer, noninvasive, and repeatable imaging modalities that could discover better cell therapeutic approaches from bench to bedside. 9An evaluation of the emission profile for two-wheelers at a traffic junction显示文摘Two-wheeler vehicles are an important mode of transportation in developing countries.However,the emissions from two-wheeler vehicles are significant.Urban two-wheeler vehicles with gasoline-fueled engines produce NO,and particulate matter emissions that affect urban air quality.During traffic light stops and programmed stops,for instance,pollutants are emitted and are dangerous to human health.In this experimental study,two-wheeler vehicles with different makes,technologies and engine capacities were tested for exhaust emissions including gravimetric and online measurements at different engine speeds and a no load condition at a si mutated traffic junction.Gravimetric measurements were performed by collecting the particulate mass(at two engine speeds:1500 and 2500 rpm) from a diluted engine-out exhaust on quartz filter paper.Next,these collected particulates were used to determine the presence of metals,as well as the benzene soluble organic fraction(BSOF).The total particulate mass,BSOF and trace elements were slightly higher at a higher engine speed(2500 rpm).Online measurements were performed by sampling the engine exhaust(at four engine speeds:1500.2000,2500,and 3000 rpm)and using online instruments to determine the particle number and size distribution,the particle-bound polyaromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs),the gaseous emissions and the smoke opacity.Engines with higher cubic capacity emitted a higher concentration of nano-particles.The particle-bound PAH concentration increased as the engine speed increased,but this concentration was notably low for the highest engine speed tested(3000 rpm).The regulated gaseous emissions increased as the engine speed increased for all vehicles.Avinash Kumar Agarwal Prakhar Bothra Tarun Gupta Pravesh Chandra Shukla 2015Particuology2015,13,1:4
10A new approach for real time object detection and tracking on high resolution and multi-camera surveillance videos using GPU显示文摘High resolution cameras and multi camera systems are being used in areas of video surveillance like security of public places, traffic monitoring, and military and satellite imaging. This leads to a demand for computational algorithms for real time processing of high resolution videos. Motion detection and background separation play a vital role in capturing the object of interest in surveillance videos, but as we move towards high resolution cameras, the time-complexity of the algorithm increases and thus fails to be a part of real time systems. Parallel architecture provides a surpass platform to work efficiently with complex algorithmic solutions. In this work, a method was proposed for identifying the moving objects perfectly in the videos using adaptive background making, motion detection and object estimation. The pre-processing part includes an adaptive block background making model and a dynamically adaptive thresholding technique to estimate the moving objects. The post processing includes a competent parallel connected component labelling algorithm to estimate perfectly the objects of interest. New parallel processing strategies are developed on each stage of the algorithm to reduce the time-complexity of the system. This algorithm has achieved a average speedup of 12.26 times for lower resolution video frames(320×240, 720×480, 1024×768) and 7.30 times for higher resolution video frames(1360×768, 1920×1080, 2560×1440) on GPU, which is superior to CPU processing. Also, this algorithm was tested by changing the number of threads in a thread block and the minimum execution time has been achieved for 16×16 thread block. 11Emission profiling of diesel and gasoline cars at a city traffic junction显示文摘In congested urban roads,cars must stop at intersections because of city traffic lights.As a result,pedestrians and traffic police personnel are exposed to pollutants emanating from the tailpipe of various vehicles at such city traffic junctions.In this study,various gasoline- and diesel-fueled cars complying with different emission standards were tested for their emissions in simulated city traffic junction conditions.The engine exhaust from these cars was subjected to physicochemical characterization at different engine speeds under no-load conditions.These engine conditions were chosen because the cars idle at different engine speeds at a city traffic junction.Gravimetric and real-time measurements were performed for the tailpipe exhaust sampled from these vehicles.Exhaust particles were collected on 47 mm diameter quartz filter papers and subjected to gravimetric analysis for determining the total particulate mass(TPM)and trace metals while the engines were operated at two different engine idling speeds,1500 rpm(representing low idling) and 2500 rpm(representing high idling).At similar engine operating conditions,TPM and trace metals were lower for the exhaust from gasoline engines compared to the exhaust from diesel engines.Real-time measurements were performed for particle-bound poly-aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs),particle number and size distribution,regulated gaseous emissions and smoke opacity of the exhaust at four different engine speeds,1500,2000,2500,and 3000 rpm.Particle-bound PAHs showed a decreasing trend for the vehicles that complied with stricter vehicular emission standards.Higher particle peak number concentrations were observed for diesel exhausts compared to the results for gasoline exhaust.Regulated gaseous emissions were also compared.Avinash Kumar Agarwal Tarun Gupta Prakhar Bothra Pravesh Chandra Shukla 2015Particuology2015,13,1:4

13硅负载离子液体的合成、表征以及其催化甲酸和三乙基胺作为氢源的环己酮还原胺化反应(英文)显示文摘A silica supported ionic liquid was synthesized and characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption-desorption, and thermogravimetric analysis. All these techniques, especially SEM results indicated the presence of well-defined spherical particles having diameters larger than the pristine silica particles, confirming the successful immobilization of the ionic liquid. The prepared silica supported ionic liquid was used in the reductive amination of cyclohexanone under different conditions with different azeotropic mixtures of formic acid and triethyl amine as a hydrogen source. The catalyst showed efficient catalytic performance and excellent yields of N-cyclohexyl amine derivatives in the range of 58% to 84% at 30 °C. After completion of the reaction, the catalyst was easily recovered by simple filtration and reused for another five cycles without any significant impact on product yields. 15Enhanced thermoelectric performance in p-type ZrCoSb based half-Heusler alloys employing nanostructuring and compositional modulation显示文摘ZrCoSb based half-Heusler(HH)alloys have been widely studied as a p-type thermoelectric(TE)material for power generation applications in the mid-temperature regime.However,their intrinsically high thermal conductivity has been found to be detrimental for the improvement in their thermoelectric figure-of-merit(ZT),which presently is far below unity.In the current work,a state-of-the-art ZT~1.1 at 873 K was realized in an optimized composition of nanostructured Zr1-xHfxCoSb_(0.9)Sn_(0.1) HH alloys by employing compositional modulation i.e.grain-by-grain compositional variations,which leads to a substantial increase in its power factor coupled with a concurrent decrease in its thermal conductivity.Significant reduction in the phonon mean-free-path is observed on Hf substitution,which is comparable to the average crystallite size(~25 nm),thus leading to a very low thermal conductivity of~2.2Wm^(-1)K^(-1) at 873 K,which is amongst the lowest reported in HH alloys.The TE device characteristics,estimated using cumulative temperature dependence model for quantitative evaluation of TE performance,yielded an output power density of~10 Wcm2 with a leg efficiency of~10%in the optimized composition of nanostructured Zr_(1-x)Hf_(x)CoSb_(0.9)Sn_(0.1) HH alloys,which is comparable to the reported efficiencies of other state-of-the-art TE materials.Nagendra S.Chauhan Sivaiah Bathula Avinash Vishwakarma Ruchi Bhardwaj Kishor Kumar Johari Bhasker Gahtori Ajay Dhar 2019Journal of Materiomics2019,5,1:3

20Quantification by allometric equations of carbon sequestered by Tectona grandis in different agroforestry systems显示文摘Non destructive methods for quantification of carbon sequestration in tropical trees are inadequately developed.We described a standardized method for estimating carbon stock in teak(Tectona grandis Linn.F.).We developed linear allometric equations using girth at breast height(GBH), height and age to quantify above ground biomass(AGB).We used AGB to estimate carbon stock for teak trees of different age groups(1.5,3.5, 7.5, 13.5, 18.5 and 23.5 years).The regression equation with GBH, y= 3.174x – 21.27, r2=0.898(p <0.01), was found precise and convenient due to the difficulty in determination of height and age in dense natural forests of teak.The equation was evaluated in teak agroforestry systems that included Triticum aestivum(wheat), Cicer arietinum(gram), Withania somnifera(ashwagandha), Avena fatua(wild oat) and Hordeum vulgare(barley) as agricultural crops established at Tropical Forest Research Institute, Jabalpur, M.P.(India).The annual carbon stock gain in teak in different agroforestry systems was in the order: teak-barley(60.47%) >teak-wheat(56.92%) > teak-wild oat(54.94%) > teak-gram(37.15%) >teak-ashwagandha(11.86%).The results from GBH-based regression equations provided satisfactory estimates of carbon stock in tropical trees.Avinash Jain S.A.Ansari 2013Journal of Forestry Research2013,24,4:2
