| 1 | Imaging of liver cancer显示文摘Improvements in imaging technology allow exploitation of the dual blood supply of the liver to aid in the identif ication and characterisation of both malignant and benign liver lesions. Imaging techniques available include contrast enhanced ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. This review discusses the application of several imaging techniques in the diagnosis and staging of both hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma and outlines certain characteristics of benign liver lesions. | 2 | Transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses of cucumber fruit peels reveal a developmental increase in terpenoid glycosides associated with age-related resistance to Phytophthora capsici显示文摘The oomycete,Phytophthora capsici,infects cucumber(Cucumis sativus L.)fruit.An age-related resistance(ARR)to this pathogen was previously observed in fruit of cultivar‘Vlaspik’and shown to be associated with the peel.Young fruits are highly susceptible,but develop resistance at~10–12 days post pollination(dpp).Peels from resistant(16 dpp)versus susceptible(8 dpp)age fruit are enriched with genes associated with defense,and methanolic extracts from resistant age peels inhibit pathogen growth.Here we compared developing fruits from‘Vlaspik’with those of‘Gy14’,a line that does not exhibit ARR.Transcriptomic analysis of peels of the two lines at 8 and 16 dpp identified 80 genes that were developmentally upregulated in resistant‘Vlaspik’16 dpp versus 8 dpp,but not in susceptible‘Gy14’at 16 dpp.A large number of these genes are annotated to be associated with defense and/or specialized metabolism,including four putative resistance(R)genes,and numerous genes involved in flavonoid and terpenoid synthesis and decoration.Untargeted metabolomic analysis was performed on extracts from 8 and 16 dpp‘Vlaspik’and‘Gy14’fruit peels using Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography and Quadrupole Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry.Multivariate analysis of the metabolomes identified 113 ions uniquely abundant in resistant‘Vlaspik’16 dpp peel extracts.The most abundant compounds in this group had relative mass defects consistent with terpenoid glycosides.Two of the three most abundant ions were annotated as glycosylated nor-terpenoid esters.Together,these analyses reveal potential mechanisms by which ARR to P.capsici may be conferred. | Ben N Mansfeld Marivi Colle Yunyan Kang A Daniel Jones Rebecca Grumet | 2017 | Horticulture Research2017，4，1： | 3 |
| 3 | Benefits of the use of blood conservation in scoliosis surgery显示文摘AIM To investigate whether autologous blood transfusion(ABT) drains and intra-operative cell salvage reduced donor blood transfusion requirements during scoliosis surgery.METHODS Retrospective data collection on transfusion requirements of patients undergoing scoliosis surgery is between January 2006 and March 2010. There were three distinct phases of transfusion practice over this time: Group A received 'traditional treatment' with allogeneic red cell transfusion(ARCT) in response to an intra- or postoperative anaemia(Hb < 8 g/d L or a symptomatic anaemia); Group B received intra-operative cell salvage in addition to 'traditional treatment'. In group C,ABT wound drains were used together with both intra-operative cell salvage and 'traditional treatment'.RESULTS Data from 97 procedures on 77 patients,there was no difference in mean preoperative haemoglobin levels between the groups(A: 13.1 g/d L; B: 13.49 g/d L; C: 13.66 g/d L). Allogeneic red cell transfusion was required for 22 of the 37 procedures(59%) in group A,17 of 30(57%) in group B and 16 of 30(53%) in group C. There was an overall 6% reduction in the proportion of patients requiring an ARCT between groups A and C but this was not statistically significant(χ2 = 0.398). Patientsin group C received fewer units(mean 2.19) than group B(mean 2.94)(P = 0.984) and significantly fewer than those in group A(mean 3.82)(P = 0.0322). | 5 | TNF inhibitors to treat ulcerative colitis in a metastatic breast cancer patient:A case report and literature review显示文摘Adalimumab(ADA)is a tumor necrosis factor(TNF)inhibitor,used for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.Previous studies have reported an increased risk of cancer following exposure to TNF inhibitors,but little has been reported for patients with cancer receiving TNF-inhibitor treatment.We present a female patient with metastatic breast cancer and ulcerative colitis(UC)who was treated with ADA.A 54-year-old African American female with a past history of left-sided breast cancer(BC)diagnosed at age 30 was initially treated with left-breast lumpectomy,axillary dissection,followed by chemotherapy and radiation therapy.Years after initial diagnosis,she developed recurrent,bilateral BC and had bilateral mastectomy.Subsequent restaging computed tomography(CT)scan demonstrated distant metastases to the bone and lymph nodes.Three years into her treatment of metastatic breast cancer,she was diagnosed with UC by colonoscopy.Her UC was not controlled for 5 mo with 5-aminosalicylates.Subcutaneous ADA was started and resulted in dramatic improvement of UC.Four months after starting ADA,along with ongoing chemotherapy,restaging CT scan showed resolution of the previously seen metastatic lymph nodes.Bone scan and follow-up positron emission tomography/CT scans performed every 6 mo indicated the stability of healed metastatic bone lesions for the past 3 years on ADA.While TNF-αinhibitors could theoretically promote further metastases in patients with prior cancer,this is the first report of a patient with metastatic breast cancer in whom the cancer has remained stable for 3 years after ADA initiation for UC. | Ruwaida Ben Musa Lydia Usha John Hibbeln Ece A Mutlu | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014，20，19： | 2 |

| 7 | Radiolarian and Planktic Foraminifera Biostratigraphy of the Early Albian Organic Rich Beds of Fahdene Formation,Northern Tunisia显示文摘The lower part of Fahdene Formation outcropping in northeastern Tunisia is represented by pelagic sequences and characterized by an important siliciclastic fraction that includes radiolarian and organic-rich beds of Allam Member.?Litho-biostratigraphic analysis based on planktic foraminifera and radiolaria shows that deposition of organic-rich beds of Allam Member is confined to the Microhedbergella rischi Zone through the lower part of Ticinella primula Zone.?Age diagnostic radiolaria recovered from these beds has been identified to constrain a direct age of black shale deposition.The assemblages can be correlated with the radiolarian biochronozone U.A.10–11 indicating an Early Albian to early Middle Albian in age.Radiolarian assemblages composed of species characteristic of U.A.10 biochronozone(A.montisserei,D.gracilis)are associated with radiolarian taxa belonging to Costata Zone(U.A.9 Pseudoeucyrtis hanni and Thanarla pseudodecora),which can be correlated with Dercourt Member in the Ionian Zone and Paquier level of the Vocontian Basin(southeast of France).Biostratigraphic and abundance curves analysis has demonstrated significant diversification of cryptocephalic Nassellaria and Archaeodictyomitrae,probably adapted to eutrophic conditions that characterized the Aptian-Albian transition.Ecological conditions may have governed the stratigraphic range of many cosmopolitan taxa(i.e.,Pseudodictyomitrae lodogaensis)compared with stratigraphic distributions schemes reported from other domains.The timing of black shales deposition was diachronic due to local geodynamic conditions and upwelling currents distribution.The Allam black shales are correlative with the oceanic anoxic event OAE1b which is characterized by the widespread of supraregionnally organic-rich beds in the Mediterranean Tethys basins across the Aptian-Albian transition. | M Ben Fadhel T Zouaghi A Amri M Ben Youssef | 2014 | Journal of Earth Science2014，25，1： | 2 |
