| 1 | The Value of CT Attenuation in Distinguishing Atypical Adenomatous Hyperplasia from Adenocarcinoma in Situ显示文摘Background and objective:Advances in high-resolution computed tomography(CT)scanning have increased the detection of small ground-glass opacity(GGO)nodules and also allowed such images to be investigated in detail.However,it is difficult to differentiate atypical adenomatous hyperplasia(AAH)from adenocarcinoma in situ(AIS)with CT,even at follow-up,because they share many similar CT manifestations.While AAH is thought to be a precursor or even an early-stage lesion of lung adenocarcinoma,and the stepwise progression from AAH to AIS is thought to be reasonable.Therefore,the hypothesis that the attenuation of GGO is increased gradually from AAH to AIS is proposed.The aim of this study was to distinguish AAH from AIS with CT attenuation in patients with pure GGO nodules.Methods:Between January 2010 and December 2012,the CT findings in terms of the greatest diameter and mean CT attenuation(HU)were reviewed and correlated with pathology in 56 patients with AAH(n=21) and non-mucinous AIS(n=38) by two independent observers.All the 59 lesions were pure GGO nodules with size of 2 cm or smaller.To determine variability of measuring CT attenuation,we calculated the 95% confidence interval(CI)for the limits of agreement by using Bland-Altman analysis.Student t test was used to compare AAH and AIS in terms of diameter and CT attenuation.And receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was used to determine the optimal cut-off value of mean CT attenuation for differentiating AAH from AIS and obtain the diagnostic value.Two-tailed P value of less than 0.05 was considered to be significant.Results:For the manually measured CT attenuation,the 95% CI for the limits of agreement was-40 HU,50 HU for inter-observer variability.Although there was significant difference in nodule diameter between AAH and AIS(P=0.046),the overlap was considerable.The mean CT attenuation was (-718±53) HU(95%CI:-822,-604) for AAH,which was significantly smaller than(-600±35) HU(95%CI:-669,-531) for AIS(P=0.013).The area under curve(AUC)from ROC was 0.903 for differentiating AAH from AIS,and the cut-off value of-632 HU was optimal for differentiation between AAH and AIS,with sensitivity of 0.79,specificity of 0.95,and accuracy of 0.85.Conclusion:The mean CT attenuation can help the radiological differentiation between AAH and AIS. | Binghu JIANG Jichen WANG PengJIA Meizhao LE | 2013 | 中国肺癌杂志2013,16,11: | 34 |
| 2 | Provenance for the Chang 6 and Chang 8 Member of the Yanchang Formation in the Xifeng area and in the periphery Ordos Basin: Evidence from petrologic geochemistry显示文摘Study indicates that the major paleocurrent and source direction for the Chang 8 Member of the Yangchang Formation, Upper Triassic in the Xifeng area of the southwestern Ordos Basin derived from the southwest direction with the southeast source as the subordinate one. While the Chang 6 Member was influenced not only by the same source as that of the Chang 8 Member from the southwest and the southeast direction, but also affected by the northeast and the east provenance around the Ordos Basin, based upon measurement of paleocurrents on outcrops located in the periphery Ordos Basin, analysis of framework grains and heavy minerals in sandstones of the Chang 6 and Chang 8 Members and their spatial distribution in the study area, combined with characteristics of trace elements and rare-earth elements of mudstones and of a small amount of sandstones in the Xifeng area and outcrops in margin of the Ordos Basin. The Yuole-Xuanma-Gucheng-Heshui-Ningxia region located in the northeastern and the eastern Xifeng area was the mixed source area where the southwest, southeast, northeast and the east sources were convergent till the Chang 6 Member was deposited. The rare earth elements of the Chang 6 and Chang 8 Members are characterized by slight light rare earth-elements (LREE) enrichment and are slightly depleted in heavy rare earth-elements (HREE) with weak to moderate negative abnormal Eu, resulting in a right inclined REE pattern, which implies that the source rocks are closely related with better differential crust material. Analysis on geochemical characteristics of the mudstones and sandstones, features of parent rocks in provenance terranes and tectonic settings shows that source rocks for the Chang 8 Member mainly came from metamorphic and sedimentary rocks in transitional continental and basement uplift terranes with a small amount of rocks including metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous rocks coming from mixed recycle orogenic belt located in the southwest margin of the Ordos basin. Rocks in the crystalline basement and the overlying sedimentary cover in a basement uplift setting in the northeast periphery of the basin also contributed a part of the sources for the Chang 6 Member, in addition to the sources deriving from transitional continental and basement uplift terranes in the southwest margin of the basin. | 11 | A New Method of Multi-Scale Geologic Modeling and Display显示文摘A new method of multi-scale modeling and display of geologic data is introduced to provide information with appropriate detail levels for different types of research. The multi-scale display mode employs a model extending existing 2D methods into 3D space. Geologic models with different scales are organized by segmenting data into orthogonal blocks. A flow diagram illustrates an octree method for upscaling between blocks with different scales. Upscaling data from the smallest unit cells takes into account their average size and the Burgers vector when there are mismatches.
