1Impact of on-range choice feeding with black soldier fly larvae(Hermetia illucens)on flock performance,egg quality,and range use of free-range laying hens显示文摘Semi-intensive free-range farm systems are common in Australia, and these systems frequently practise on-range feeding. The objective of this study was to investigate the benefit of on-range choice feeding on flock performance, egg quality, and range use of free-range laying hens using black soldier fly larvae(Hermetia illucens, BSF). A total of 160 mature ISA brown laying hens, previously determined to range daily, were allocated to a control group(control) or a treatment group(BSF) with various replicates depending on the parameter investigated. All hens were fed ad libitum indoors with a wheat-soy based diet formulated according to breed requirements. Black soldier fly hens were offered dried BSF larvae ad libitum on the range. Body weight, feed intake, BSF intake, egg production, feed conversion ratio, internal and external egg quality parameters, and individual range use using radio-frequency identification(RFID)technology was evaluated. Black soldier fly hens consumed on average 15 ± 1.7 g BSF larvae/hen per day.There were no differences between BSF and control hens for any of the performance parameters obtained(P > 0.05). Egg weight, shell weight, and shell thickness of eggs from BSF hens were significantly lower(P = 0.003, P = 0.001, and P = 0.004, respectively) than those of eggs from control hens. Egg yolk colour was significantly paler in eggs from BSF hens(P < 0.001). No significant ranging differences between the BSF and control hens were observed(P > 0.05) except for BSF hens showing longer total maximum time for a single visit to the range(P = 0.011). In conclusion, the average intake of BSF larvae indicated a good level of acceptance. Feed formulation should be adjusted for the intake of the choice fed source. 2Kinetic study of phytotoxicity induced by foliar lead uptake for vegetables exposed to fine particles and implications for sustainable urban agriculture显示文摘At the global scale, foliar metal transfer occurs for consumed vegetables cultivated in numerous urban or industrial areas with a polluted atmosphere. However, the kinetics of metal uptake, translocation and involved phytotoxicity was never jointly studied with vegetables exposed to micronic and sub-micronic particles(PM). Different leafy vegetables(lettuces and cabbages) cultivated in RHIZOtest? devices were, therefore, exposed in a greenhouse for 5, 10 and 15 days to various Pb O PM doses. The kinetics of transfer and phytotoxicity was assessed in relation to lead concentration and exposure duration. A significant Pb accumulation in leaves(up to 7392 mg/kg dry weight(DW) in lettuce) with translocation to roots was observed. Lead foliar exposure resulted in significant phytotoxicity, lipid composition change, a decrease of plant shoot growth(up to 68.2% in lettuce) and net photosynthesis(up to 58% in lettuce). The phytotoxicity results indicated plant adaptation to Pb and a higher sensitivity of lettuce in comparison with cabbage. 5Human herpesvirus 6 infections after liver transplantation显示文摘Human herpesvirus 6(HHV-6) infections occur in > 95% of humans.Primary infection,which occurs in early childhood as an asymptomatic illness or manifested clinically as roseola infantum,leads to a state of subclinical viral persistence and latency.Reactivation of latent HHV-6 is common after liver transplantation,possibly induced and facilitated by allograft rejection and immunosuppressive therapy.Since the vast majority of humans harbor the virus in a latent state,HHV-6 infections after liver transplantation are believed to be mostly due to endogenous reactivation or superinfection(reactivation in the transplanted organ).In a minority of cases,however,primary HHV-6 infection may occur when an HHV-6 negative individual receives a liver allograft from an HHV-6 positive donor.The vast majority of documented HHV-6 infections after liver transplantation are asymptomatic.In a minority of cases,HHV-6 has been implicated as a cause of febrile illness with rash and myelosuppression,hepatitis,pneumonitis,and encephalitis after liver transplantation.In addition,HHV-6 has been associated with a variety of indirect effects such as allograft rejection,and increased predisposition and severity of other infections including cytomegalovirus(CMV),hepatitis C virus,and opportunistic fungi.Because of the uncommon nature of the clinical illnesses directly attributed to HHV-6,there is currently no recommended HHV-6-specific approach to prevention.However,ganciclovir and valganciclovir,which are primarily intended for the prevention of CMV disease,are also active against HHV-6 and may prevent its reactivation after transplantation.The treatment of established HHV-6 disease is usually with intravenous ganciclovir,cidofovir,or foscarnet,complemented by reduction in the degree of immunosuppression.This article reviews the current advances in the pathogenesis,clinical diagnosis,and therapeutic modalities against HHV6 in the setting of liver transplantation.Rima Camille Abdel Massih Raymund R Razonable 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,21:5
6Is breast conservative surgery a reasonable option in multifocal or multicentric tumors?显示文摘The incidence of multifocal(MF) and multicentric(MC) carcinomas varies widely among clinical studies,depending on definitions and methods for pathological sampling.Magnetic resonance imaging is increasingly used because it can help identify additional and conventionally occult tumors with high sensitivity.However,false positive lesions might incorrectly influence treatment decisions.Therefore,preoperative biopsies must be performed to avoid unnecessary surgery.Most studies have shown higher lymph node involvement rates in MF/MC tumors than in unifocal tumors.However,the rate of local recurrences is usually low after breast conservative treatment(BCT) of MC/MF tumors.It has been suggested that BCT is a reasonable option for MC/MF tumors in women aged 50-69 years,with small tumors and absence of extensive ductal carcinoma in situ.A metaanalysis showed an apparent decreased overall survival in MC/MF tumors but data are controversial.Surgery should achieve both acceptable cosmetic results and negative margins,which requires thorough preoperative radiological workup and localization of lesions.Boost radiotherapy techniques must be evaluated since double boosts might result in increased toxicity,namely fibrosis.In conclusion,BCT is feasible in selected patients with MC/MF but the choice of surgery must be discussed in a multidisciplinary team comprising at least radiologists,surgeons and radiotherapists.Gilles Houvenaeghel Agnès Tallet Aurélie Jalaguier-Coudray Monique Cohen Marie Bannier Camille Jauffret-Fara Eric Lambaudie 2016World Journal of Clinical Oncology2016,7,2:4

9Simultaneous measurement of CO_2 sorption and swelling of phosphate-based ionic liquid显示文摘The development of alternative CO_2 capture solvents such as ionic liquids(ILs) and nanoparticle organic hybrid materials(NOHMs) have provided interesting options for CO_2 capture. In this study, CO_2 interactions with 1,3-dimethylimidazolium dimethylphosphate([MMIM]DMP),1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium dimethylphosphate([EMIM]DMP) and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium diethylphosphate([EMIM]DEP) that contain inorganic ester groups based on phosphate, were investigated using ATR FT-IR spectroscopy. CO_2-induced swelling, CO_2 diffusivity and CO_2 capture capacity were simultaneously measured to identify CO_2 capture mechanisms, kinetics and diffusion behaviors as a function of the alkyl chain length of the cation. 10Multi-year analyses on three populations reveal the first stable QTLs for tolerance to rain-induced fruit cracking in sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.)显示文摘Rain-induced fruit cracking is a major problem in sweet cherry cultivation.Basic research has been conducted to disentangle the physiological and mechanistic bases of this complex phenomenon,whereas genetic studies have lagged behind.The objective of this work was to disentangle the genetic determinism of rain-induced fruit cracking.We hypothesized that a large genetic variation would be revealed,by visual field observations conducted on mapping populations derived from well-contrasted cultivars for cracking tolerance.Three populations were evaluated over 7–8 years by estimating the proportion of cracked fruits for each genotype at maturity,at three different areas of the sweet cherry fruit:pistillar end,stem end,and fruit side.An original approach was adopted to integrate,within simple linear models,covariates potentially related to cracking,such as rainfall accumulation before harvest,fruit weight,and firmness.We found the first stable quantitative trait loci(QTLs)for cherry fruit cracking,explaining percentages of phenotypic variance above 20%,for each of these three types of cracking tolerance,in different linkage groups,confirming the high complexity of this trait.For these and other QTLs,further analyses suggested the existence of at least two-linked QTLs in each linkage group,some of which showed confidence intervals close to 5 cM.These promising results open the possibility of developing marker-assisted selection strategies to select cracking-tolerant sweet cherry cultivars.Further studies are needed to confirm the stability of the reported QTLs over different genetic backgrounds and environments and to narrow down the QTL confidence intervals,allowing the exploration of underlying candidate genes.Jose Quero-Garcia Philippe Letourmy Jose Antonio Campoy Camille Branchereau Svetoslav Malchev Teresa Barreneche Elisabeth Dirlewanger 2021Horticulture Research2021,8,1:3

12Sclareol and linalyl acetate are produced by glandular trichomes through the MEP pathway显示文摘Sclareol,an antifungal specialized metabolite produced by clary sage,Salvia sclarea,is the starting plant natural molecule used for the hemisynthesis of the perfume ingredient ambroxide.Sclareol is mainly produced in clary sage flower calyces;however,the cellular localization of the sclareol biosynthesis remains unknown.To elucidate the site of sclareol biosynthesis,we analyzed its spatial distribution in the clary sage calyx epidermis using laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging(LDI–FTICR-MSI)and investigated the expression profile of sclareol biosynthesis genes in isolated glandular trichomes(GTs).We showed that sclareol specifically accumulates in GTs’gland cells in which sclareol biosynthesis genes are strongly expressed.We next isolated a glabrous beardless mutant and demonstrate that more than 90%of the sclareol is produced by the large capitate GTs.Feeding experiments,using 1-13 C-glucose,and specific enzyme inhibitors further revealed that the methylerythritol-phosphate(MEP)biosynthetic pathway is the main source of isopentenyl diphosphate(IPP)precursor used for the biosynthesis of sclareol.Our findings demonstrate that sclareol is an MEP-derived diterpene produced by large capitate GTs in clary sage emphasing the role of GTs as biofactories dedicated to the production of specialized metabolites.Camille Chalvin Stephanie Drevensek Françoise Gilard Caroline Mauve Christel Chollet Halima Morin Edith Nicol Eva Heripre Lucie Kriegshauser Bertrand Gakiere Michel Dron Abdelhafid Bendahmane Adnane Boualem 2021Horticulture Research2021,8,1:2

16Water extraction kinetics of metals, arsenic and dissolved organic carbon from industrial contaminated poplar leaves显示文摘In industrial areas, tree leaves contaminated by metals and metalloids could constitute a secondary source of pollutants. In the present study, water extraction kinetics of inorganic elements(IE: Pb, Zn, Cd, As, Fe and Mn), dissolved organic carbon, pH and biological activity were studied for industrial contaminated poplar leaves. Moreover, the distribution of the IE through the size fractions of the associated top soil was measured. High quantities of Mn, Zn and As and polysaccharides were released in the solution from the strongly contaminated leaves. The kinetic of release varied with time and metal type. The solution pH decreased while dissolved organic contents increased with time after 30 days. Therefore, these contaminated leaves could constitute a source of more available organic metals and metalloids than the initial inorganic process particles. However, the distribution of the IE through the size fractions of the top soil suggested that a great part of the released IE was adsorbed, reducing in consequence their transfers and bioavailability.
