1Relationship between adipose tissue dysfunction, vitamin D deficiency and the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is the most common chronic liver disease worldwide.Its pathogenesis is complex and not yet fully understood.Over the years many studies have proposed various pathophysiological hypotheses,among which the currently most widely accepted is the'multiple parallel hits'theory.According to this model,lipid accumulation in the hepatocytes and insulin resistance increase the vulnerability of the liver to many factors that act in a coordinated and cooperative manner to promote hepatic injury,inflammation and fibrosis.Among these factors,adipose tissue dysfunction and subsequent chronic low grade inflammation play a crucial role.Recent studies have shown that vitamin D exerts an immune-regulating action on adipose tissue,and the growing wealth of epidemiological data is demonstrating that hypovitaminosis D is associated with both obesity and NAFLD.Furthermore,given the strong association between these conditions,current findings suggest that vitamin D may be involved in the relationship between adipose tissue dysfunction and NAFLD.The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of recent advances in the pathogenesis of NAFLD in relation to adipose tissue dysfunction,and in the pathophysiology linking vitamin D deficiency with NAFLD and adiposity,together with an overview of the evidence available on the clinical utility of vitamin D supplementation in cases of NAFLD.Flavia A Cimini Ilaria Barchetta Simone Carotti Laura Bertoccini Marco G Baroni Umberto Vespasiani-Gentilucci Maria-Gisella Cavallo Sergio Morini 2017World Journal of Gastroenterology2017,23,19:9
2Polyomavirus-associated nephropathy显示文摘Polyomaviruses BK and JC are ubiquitous viruses with high seroprevalence rates in general population.Following primary infection,polyomaviruses BK and JC persist latently in different sites,particularly in the reno-urinary tract.Reactivation from latency may occur in normal subjects with asymptomatic viruria,while it can be associated to nephropathy(PVAN)in kidney transplantat recipients.PVAN may occur in 1%-10%of renal transplant patients with loss of the transplanted organ in 30%up to 80%of the cases.Etiology of PVAN is mainly attributable to BK virus,although approximately5%of the cases may be due to JC.Pathogenesis of PVAN is still unknown,although viral replication and the lack of immune control play a major role.Immunosuppression represents the condicio sine qua non for the development of PVAN and the modulation of anti-rejection treatment represents the first line of intervention,given the lack of specific antiviral agents.At moment,an appropriate immunemodulation can only be accomplished by early identification of viral reactivacation by evaluation of polyomavirus load on serum and/or urine specimens,particularly in the first year post-trasplantation.Viro-immunological monitoring of specific cellular immune response could be useful to identify patients unable to recover cellular immunity posttransplantation,that are at higher risk of viral reactivation with development of PVAN.Herein,the main features of polyomaviruses BK and JC,biological properties,clinical characteristics,etiopathogenesis,monitoring and diag-nosing of PVAN will be described and discussed,with an extended citation of related relevant literature data.Cristina Costa Rossana Cavallo 2012World Journal of Transplantation2012,2,6:6
3Overview of studies of the vitamin D/vitamin D receptor system in the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is the most common chronic liver disease in the world.NAFLD is known to be associated with obesity,type 2 diabetes,metabolic syndrome and increased cardiovascular events:for these reasons,it is becoming a global public health problem and represents an important challenge in terms of prevention and treatment.The mechanisms behind the pathogenesis of NAFLD are multiple and have not yet been completely unraveled;consequently,at moment there are not effective treatments.In the past few years a large body of evidence has been assembled that attributes an important role in hepatic aberrant fat accumulation,inflammation and fibrosis,to the vitamin D/vitamin D receptor(VD/VDR)axis,showing a strong association between hypovitaminosis D and the diagnosis of NAFLD.However,the data currently available,including clinical trials with VD supplementation,still provides a contrasting picture.The purpose of this editorial is to provide an overview of recent advances in the pathogenesis of NAFLD in relation to VD/VDR.Based on recent data from literature,we focused in particular on the hypothesis that VDR itself,independently from its traditional ligand VD,may have a crucial function in promoting hepatic fat accumulation.This might also offer new possibilities for future innovative therapeutic approaches in the management of NAFLD.Flavia Agata Cimini Ilaria Barchetta Simone Carotti Sergio Morini Maria Gisella Cavallo 2019World Journal of Gastrointestinal Pathophysiology2019,10,2:4

5Photophysics and electrochemistry relevant to photocatalytic water splitting involved at solid–electrolyte interfaces显示文摘Direct photon to chemical energy conversion using semiconductor–electrocatalyst–electrolyte interfaces has been extensively investigated for more than a half century. Many studies have focused on screening materials for efficient photocatalysis. Photocatalytic efficiency has been improved during this period but is not sufficient for industrial commercialization. Detailed elucidation on the photocatalytic water splitting process leads to consecutive six reaction steps with the fundamental parameters involved: The photocatalysis is initiated involving photophysics derived from various semiconductor properties(1: photon absorption, 2: exciton separation). The generated charge carriers need to be transferred to surfaces effectively utilizing the interfaces(3: carrier diffusion, 4: carrier transport). Consequently, electrocatalysis finishes the process by producing products on the surface(5: catalytic efficiency, 6: mass transfer of reactants and products). Successful photocatalytic water splitting requires the enhancement of efficiency at each stage. Most critically, a fundamental understanding of the interfacial phenomena is highly desired for establishing 'photocatalysis by design' concepts, where the kinetic bottleneck within a process is identified by further improving the specific properties of photocatalytic materials as opposed to blind material screening. Theoretical modeling using the identified quantitative parameters can effectively predict the theoretically attainable photon-conversion yields.
