On Reliability-optimized Controller Placement for Software-Defined Networks显示文摘By decoupling control plane and data plane,Software-Defined Networking(SDN) approach simplifies network management and speeds up network innovations. These benefits have led not only to prototypes, but also real SDN deployments. For wide-area SDN deployments, multiple controllers are often required, and the placement of these controllers becomes a particularly important task in the SDN context. This paper studies the problem of placing controllers in SDNs,so as to maximize the reliability of SDN control networks. We present a novel metric, called expected percentage of control path loss,to characterize the reliability of SDN control networks. We formulate the reliability-aware control placement problem, prove its NP-hardness,and examine several placement algorithms that can solve this problem.Through extensive simulations using real topologies,we show how the number of controllers and their placement influence the reliability of SDN control networks.Besides,we also found that, through strategic controller placement, the reliability of SDN control networks can be significantly improved without introducing unacceptable switch-to-controller latencies. | HU Yannan WANG Wendong GONG Xiangyang QUE Xirong CHENG Shiduan | 2014 | China Communications2014,11,2: | 25
Energy-Performance Tradeoffs in laaS Cloud with Virtual Machine Scheduling显示文摘In the cloud data centers, how to map virtual machines(VMs) on physical machines(PMs) to reduce the energy consumption is becoming one of the major issues, and the existing VM scheduling schemes are mostly to reduce energy consumption by optimizing the utilization of physical servers or network elements. However, the aggressive consolidation of these resources may lead to network performance degradation. In view of this, this paper proposes a two-stage VM scheduling scheme:(1) We propose a static VM placement scheme to minimize the number of activating PMs and network elements to reduce the energy consumption;(2) In the premise of minimizing the migration costs,we propose a dynamic VM migration scheme to minimize the maximum link utilization to improve the network performance. This scheme makes a tradeoff between energy efficiency and network performance. We design a new twostage heuristic algorithm for a solution, and the simulations show that our solution achieves good results. | DONG Jiankang WANG Hongbo CHENG Shiduan | 2015 | China Communications2015,12,2: | 3
Learning an identity distinguishable space for large scale face recognition显示文摘Implementing face recognition efficiently to real world large scale dataset presents great challenges to existing approaches. The method in this paper was proposed to learn an identity distinguishable space for large scale face recognition in MSR-Bing image recognition challenge( IRC). Firstly,a deep convolutional neural network( CNN)was used to optimize a 128 B embedding for large scale face retrieval. The embedding was trained via using triplets of aligned face patches from Face Scrub and CASIA-Web Face datasets. Secondly, the evaluation of MSR-Bing IRC was conducted according to a cross-domain retrieval scheme. The real-time retrieval in this paper was benefited from the K-means clustering performed on the feature space of training data. Furthermore,a large scale similarity learning( LSSL) was applied on the relevant face images for learning a better identity space. A novel method for selecting similar pairs was proposed for LSSL. Compared with many existing networks of face recognition, the proposed model was lightweight and the retrieval method was promising as well. | Yue Ting Wang Hongbo Cheng Shiduan | 2018 | The Journal of China Universities of Posts and Telecommunications2018,25,1: | 2
Virtual Machine Scheduling for Improving Energy Efficiency in laaS Cloud显示文摘In IaaS Cloud, different mapping relationships between virtual machines(VMs) and physical machines(PMs) cause different resource utilization,so how to place VMs on PMs to reduce energy consumption is becoming one of the major concerns for cloud providers. The existing VM scheduling schemes propose optimize PMs or network resources utilization, but few of them attempt to improve the energy efficiency of these two kinds of resources simultaneously. This paper proposes a VM scheduling scheme meeting multiple resource constraints, such as the physical server size(CPU,memory, storage, bandwidth, etc.) and network link capacity to reduce both the numbers of active PMs and network elements so as to finally reduce energy consumption.Since VM scheduling problem is abstracted as a combination of bin packing problem and quadratic assignment problem, which is also known as a classic combinatorial optimization and NP-hard problem.Accordingly,we design a twostage heuristic algorithm to solve the issue, and the simulations show that our solution outperforms the existing PM- or network-only optimization solutions. | DONG Jiankang WANG Hongbo LIYangyang CHENG Shiduan | 2014 | China Communications2014,11,3: | 2
Active probing based Internet service fault management in uncertain and noisy environment显示文摘In Internet service fault management based on active probing, uncertainty and noises will affect service fault management. In order to reduce the impact, challenges of Internet service fault management are analyzed in this paper. Bipartite Bayesian network is chosen to model the dependency relationship between faults and probes, binary symmetric channel is chosen to model noises, and a service fault management approach using active probing is proposed for such an environment. This approach is composed of two phases:fault detection and fault diagnosis. In first phase,we propose a greedy approximation probe selection algorithm(GAPSA) ,which selects a minimal set of probes while remaining a high probability of fault detection. In second phase,we propose a fault diagnosis probe selection algorithm(FDPSA) ,which selects probes to obtain more system information based on the symptoms observed in previous phase. To deal with dynamic fault set caused by fault recovery mechanism,we propose a hypothesis inference algorithm based on fault persistent time statistic(FPTS) . Simulation results prove the validity and efficiency of our approach. | CHU LingWei ZOU ShiHong CHENG ShiDuan WANG WenDong | 2008 | Science in China(Series F)2008,51,11: | 2

Peer-to-Peer Networks 2显示文摘The development of network resources changes the network computing models. P2P networks, a new type of network adopting peer-to-peer strategy for computing, have attracted worldwide attention. The P2P architecture is a type of distributed network in which all participants share their hardware resources and the shared resources can be directly accessed by peer nodes without going through any dedicated servers. The participants in a P2P network are both resource providers and resource consumers. This article on P2P networks is divided into two issues. In the previous issue, P2P architecture, network models and core search algorithms were introduced. The second part in this issue is analyzing the current P2P research and application situations, as well as the impacts of P2P on telecom operators and equipment vendors. | Lin Yu 1,Cheng Shiduan 1,Li Qi 2 (1. | 9 | On the feasibility and efficacy of control traffic protection in software-defined networks显示文摘Software Defined Networking(SDN) is an emerging networking paradigm that assumes a logically centralized control plane separated from the data plane. Despite all its advantages, separating the control and data planes introduces new challenges regarding resilient communications between the two. That is, disconnections between switches and their controllers could result in substantial packet loss and performance degradation. This paper addresses this challenge by studying the issue of control traffic protection in SDNs with arbitrary numbers of controllers. Specifically, we propose a control traffic protection scheme that combines both local rerouting and constrained reverse path forwarding protections, through which switches can locally react to failures and redirect the control traffic using standby backup forwarding options. Our goal is then to find a set of primary routes for control traffic, called protected control network, where as many switches as possible can benefit from the proposed protection scheme. We formulate the protected control network problem, prove its NP-hardness, and develop an algorithm that reconciles protectability and performance(e.g., switch-to-control latency). Through extensive simulations based on real topologies, we show that our approach significantly improves protectability of control traffic. The results should help further the process of deploying SDN in real-world networks. | HU YanNan WANG WenDong GONG XiangYang QUE XiRong CHENG ShiDuan | 2015 | Science China Chemistry2015,58,12: | 1

ULM: A user-level model for emotion prediction in social networks显示文摘Users express their emotions in online social networks(OSNs). Studying emotions is important for understanding user behaviors. Existing methods in emotion prediction mainly use personal emotion and friend emotion to predict target emotion. In this study, public sentiment is introduced to denote the sentiment of the majority in the network. Public conformity is calculated to measure the degree of a user conforming to the public sentiment. According to the public conformity, users are categorized into three classes: Approvers, independents, and starters. A user-level model for emotion prediction is proposed to predict target emotions of different classes of users, taking into account of the public sentiment, individual sentiment, friend sentiment and pseudo-friend sentiment. Relations between the public conformity and the structure of the network are studied. Experiments conducted on Sina Weibo show that the proposed model could achieve performance improvements to some existing methods in most cases. | Wang Qiyao Li Zhengmin Jin Yuehui Cheng Shiduan Yang Tan | 2016 | The Journal of China Universities of Posts and Telecommunications2016,23,3: | 0
Internet QoS: Architectures, Strategies and Mechanisms显示文摘As an extensive study of Internet QoS, a framework for emerging Internet QoS strategies is presented. Integrated service (Intserv/RSVP), Differentiated service (Diffserv), MPLS, and QoS routing, are overviewed. The key issues and relationship of these QoS architectures are discussed. Some algorithms in IP QoS implementation and unsolved problems are also studied in this paper. Furthermore, a new strategies of incorporating Intserv with Diffserv to archive end-to-end QoS is proposed. It is also discussed why MPLS and QoS routing are introduced into this framework, how they differ from and relate to other schemes and where they fit into the Diffserv architecture. The timescales of different QoS strategies are also studied and some proposals for QoS routing deployment are given. | 隆克平 Cheng Shiduan Ma Jian | 2001 | High Technology Letters2001,7,1: | 0
A self-adaptive key flow routing adjustment algorithm显示文摘Congestion may decrease throughput and transfer efficiency of network, and lead to serious degradation of quality of service(QoS)acquired by end users.Present routing adjustment methods against congestion mostly consider single-point congestion. They cannot deal with multi-point congestion. This paper presents a probability-based routing adjustment algorithm, which solves the interference problem when several flows are adjusted simultaneously. While multiple points in the network are being or about to be congested, several key flows are rerouted by this algorithm at the same time to make traffic distribution more reasonable so as to avoid congestion.Meanwhile, the algorithm in this paper confines the path length of key flows to avoid QoS reduction due to overlength of key flows.Simulation shows that this method, compared with present algorithms, maintains better load balance and path length. Therefore it effectively increases the throughput of the network. | Yujie PEI Hongbo WANG Shiduan CHENG | 2009 | Frontiers of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in China2009,4,3: | 0
Trends and Prospects of Network Convergence显示文摘The concept of the separation of service, control, bearer and access in the Next Generation Network (NGN) provides a unified architecture for the network convergence in the future. Network convergence involves service, core network, access network, terminal, and operation and maintenance convergence. In the future, the converged network's trend is to use IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) at the core control layer; Internet Protocol/Multiple Protocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) technology at the core bearer layer; unified and open service provisioning architecture at the service layer; as well as support fixed, mobile, narrowband and broadband access technologies and so on at the access layer. Terminals will evolve to be multi-modular and intelligent, and would finally enable users to access full services anytime and anywhere using one number, one terminal, one account and one core network. | Lu Meilian Cheng Shiduan (Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications,Beijing 100876,China) | 2007 | ZTE Communications2007,5,2: | 0
A Mobility Management Solution Based on ID/Locator Separation显示文摘Current mobility management solutions based on ID/Locator separation are not easily deployed and cannot solve routing scalability and mobility problems. This paper proposes a novel network architecture based on ID/Locator separation and suggests a new mobility management solution. This solution solves the problem of scalability in the network and also provides better support for mobility. It can be easily deployed because no modification of the mobile host’s protocol stack is required. The identifier contains some routing information; so the solution provides intrinsic interworking with traditional mobile hosts. Because the mapping systems are distributed to the edge networks, robustness of the whole system is enhanced and handover delay is decreased. | Yuhong Li Yunjing Hou Shiduan Cheng | 2011 | ZTE Communications2011,9,2: | 0

In this ar-chitecture, mechanism of feedback control enhances the functions of resource management and system moni-toring. | 19 | A cross-layer adaptive transmission scheme over correlated fading channels显示文摘Conventional adaptive transmission schemes perform poorly in wireless correlated slow-fading channels.A cross-layer adaptive transmission scheme combined with selective repeat automatic repeat request(SR-ARQ)is proposed. We apply a multi-state Markov system model for analyzing the performance of systems and optimizing the selection of modulation levels and packet sizes in correlated fading channels, which is also described by a finite-state Markov chain.A general closed-form expression of the average throughput for our suggested scheme is presented.Numerical results show that our adaptive scheme combined with SR-ARQ can obtain good performance in correlated fading channels. | XIAO Junfeng QIU Jing CHENG Shiduan | 2007 | Frontiers of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in China2007,2,1: | 0 |
