Responses of plant community to the linkages in plant-soil C:N:P stoichiometry during secondary succession of abandoned farmlands,China显示文摘Succession is one of the central themes of ecology;however, the relationship between aboveground plant communities and underground soils during secondary succession remains unclear. In this study,we investigated the composition of plant community,plant-soil C:N:P stoichiometry and their relationships during secondary succession after the abandonment of farmlands for 0,10,20,30,40 and 50 a in China,2016.Results showed that the composition of plant communities was most diverse in the farmlands after secondary succession for 20 and 50 a.Soil organic carbon and total nitrogen contents slightly decreased after secondary succession for 30 a,but both were significantly higher than those of control farmland(31.21%-139.10%and 24.24%-121.21%,respectively).Moreover,C:N ratios of soil and microbe greatly contributed to the changes in plant community composition during secondary succession of abandoned farmlands, explaining 35.70%of the total variation.Particularly, soil C:N ratio was significantly and positively related with the Shannon-Wiener index. This study provides the evidence of synchronous evolution between plant community and soil during secondary succession and C:N ratio is an important linkage between them. | LIU Weichao FU Shuyue YAN Shengji REN Chengjie WU Shaojun DENG Jian LI Boyong HAN Xinhui YANG Gaihe | 2020 | Journal of Arid Land2020,12,2: | 5
Effect of Soil C,N and P Stoichiometry on Soil Organic C Fractions After Afforestation显示文摘Afforestation is recognized as an important driving force for soil organic C(SOC) dynamics and soil element cycling. To evaluate the relationships between soil C:N:P stoichiometry and SOC fractions, soil C:N:P stoichiometry distributions at 0–200 cm soil depths were analyzed and the contents of SOC fractions were evaluated in 9 typical land-use systems on the Loess Plateau of China. The contents of light fraction organic C,particulate organic C(>53,53–2 000,and>2 000 μm),labile organic C,microbial biomass C,and dissolved organic C decreased with increasing soil depth and were higher in afforested soil than in slope cropland soil.Compared with the slope cropland, different vegetation types influenced soil C:N,C:P,and N:P ratios, especially when C:P and N:P ratios were significantly higher(P<0.05).Moreover,SOC fractions at the 0–10 and 10–40 cm depths were particularly affected by soil C:P ratio, whereas those at the 40–100 and 100–200 cm soil depths were significantly affected(P<0.05) by soil N:P ratio. These results indicate that changes in SOC fractions are largely driven by soil C:P and N:P ratios at different soil depths after afforestation. | ZHAO Fazhu ZHANG Lu SUN Jiao REN Chengjie HAN Xinhui YANG Gaihe PANG Guowei BAI Hongying WANG Jun | 2017 | Pedosphere2017,27,4: | 1
Mean Flow–Storm Track Relationship and Rossby Wave Breaking in Two Types of El-Nino显示文摘The features of large-scale circulation, storm tracks and the dynamical relationship between them were examined by investigating Rossby wave breaking(RWB) processes associated with Eastern Pacific(EP) and Central Pacific(CP) El-Nin o. During EP El-Nin o, the geopotential height anomaly at 500 hPa(Z500) exhibits a Pacific–North America(PNA) pattern. During CP El-Nin o, the Z500 anomaly shows a north positive–south negative pattern over the North Pacific. The anomalous distributions of baroclinicity and storm track are consistent with those of upper-level zonal wind for both EP and CP El-Nin o, suggesting impacts of mean flow on storm track variability. Anticyclonic wave breaking(AWB) occurs less frequently in EP El-Nin o years, while cyclonic wave breaking(CWB) occurs more frequently in CP El-Nin o years over the North Pacific sector. Outside the North Pacific, more CWB events occur over North America during EP El-Nin o. When AWB events occur less frequently over the North Pacific during EP El-Nin o, Z500 decreases locally and the zonal wind is strengthened(weakened) to the south(north). This is because AWB events reflect a monopole high anomaly at the centroid of breaking events. When CWB events occur more frequently over the North Pacific under CP El-Nin o conditions, and over North America under EP El-Nin o condition, Z500 increases(decreases) to the northeast(southwest), since CWB events are related to a northeast–southwest dipole Z500 anomaly. The anomalous RWB events act to invigorate and reinforce the circulation anomalies over the North Pacific–North America region linked with the two types of El-Nin o. | LIU Chengji REN Xuejuan YANG Xiuqun | 2014 | Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2014,31,1: | 1
Afforestation increases microbial diversity in low-carbon soils显示文摘Afforestation has an important role in biodiversity conservation and ecosystem function improvement.A meta-analysis was carried out in China, which has the largest plantation area globally,to quantify the effects of plantings on soil microbial diversity. The results showed that the overall effect of afforestation on soil microbial diversity was positive across the country.Random forest algorithm suggested that soil carbon was the most important factor regulating microbial diversity and the positive response was only found with new plantings on low-carbon bare lands but not on high-carbon farmlands and grasslands. In addition, afforestation with broadleaved species increased microbial diversity, whereas planting with conifers had no effect on microbial diversity. This study clarified the effects of plantings on soil microbial diversity, which has an important implication for establishing appropriate policies and practices to improve the multiple functionalities(e.g.,biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation)during plantation establishment. | Xuesen Pang Chuankuan Wang Chengjie Ren Zhenghu Zhou | 2024 | Journal of Forestry Research2024,35,2: | 0
N-cycle gene abundance determination of N mineralization rate following re-afforestation in the Loess Plateau of China显示文摘Afforestation effectively improved soil microbial communities and significantly increased soil nitro-gen mineralization rate(Rm).Soil microorganisms drive Rm by regulating soil N-cycling genes.Soil nitrification genes had a major effect on soil Rm than denitrification genes after afforestation.Assessing the function of forest ecosystems requires an understanding of the mechanism of soil nitrogen mineralization. However,it remains unclear how soil N-cycling genes drive soil nitrogen mineralization during afforestation. In this study,we collected soil samples from a chrono-sequence of 14,20,30,and 45 years of Robinia pseudoacacia L.(RP14,RP20,RP30,and RP45)with a sloped farmland(FL)as a control.Through metagenomic sequencing analysis,we found significant changes in the diversity and composition of soil microbial communities involved in N-cycling along the afforestation time series, with afforestation effectively increasing the diversity(both alpha and beta diversity)of soil microbial communities. We conducted indoor culture experiments and analyzed correlations, which revealed a significant increase in both soil nitrification rate(Rn)and soil nitrogen mineralization rate(Rm)with increasing stand age.Furthermore,we found a strong correlation between soil Rm and soil microbial diversity(both alpha and beta diversity)and with the abundance of soil N-cycling genes.Partial least squares path modeling(PLS-PM)analysis showed that nitrification genes(narH,narY,nxrB,narG,narZ,nxrA,hao,pmoC-amoC)and denitrification genes(norB,nosZ,nirK)had a greater direct effect on soil Rm compared to their effect on soil microbial communities. Our results reveal the relationships between soil nitrogen mineralization rate and soil microbial communities and between the mineralization rate and functional genes involved in N-cycling,in the context of Robinia pseudoacacia L.restoration on the Loess Plateau. This study enriches the understanding of the effects of microorganisms on soil nitrogen mineralization rate during afforestation and provides a new theoretical basis for evaluating soil nitrogen mineralization mechanisms during forest succession. | Yaping Zhao Yuqing Zhao Shuohong Zhang Yulin Xu Xinhui Han Gaihe Yang Chengjie Ren | 2024 | Soil Ecology Letters2024,6,1: | 0
Human adipose, placenta, and umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells ameliorate imiquimod-induced psoriatic mice via reducing T cells infiltration显示文摘Psoriasis is an autoimmune-related chronic inflammatory disease with an approximate prevalence of 2–3%around the world, involving increased keratinocyte proliferation.Indeed,Th17 cells and IL-17 play critical roles in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. The monoclonal antibodies against cytokines have been shown to have effectively immunosuppressive effects on human psoriasis. However, there are still some patients that have no response to these treatments. Some patients have even serious side-effects which may affect their life.Mesenchymal stem cells have the ability of immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory effects, which may be an alternative therapy with more safety and efficacy for human psoriasis. Moreover, the underlying mechanisms by which the MSCs prevent or ameliorate psoriasis are still poorly understood. Here,we first isolated and characterized human adipose, placenta, and umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells(haMSCs,hpMSCs,and huMSCs).After that, the animal model of imiquimod(IMQ)-induced psoriasis in C57BL/6 mice was confirmed. We investigated the impact of haMSCs,hpMSCs,and huMSCs on this model by H&E staining, immunohistochemistry staining, and quantitative real-time PCR.Data analysis showed that mice subcutaneously injected with these MSCs had a significantly decreased epidermal thickness, which was caused by obviously reduced hyper-proliferation of keratinocytes.Furthermore, our findings revealed that the infiltration of T cells to psoriatic lesions in IMQ-induced psoriasis mice was markedly downregulated by intradermal administration of haMSCs,hpMSCs,and huMSCs,respectively.Consequently, the production of IL-17 from Th17 cells was reduced, which inhibits the proliferation of keratinocytes in lesioned skin of IMQ-induced psoriasis mice. These data suggest that haMSCs,hpMSCs,and huMSCs can inhibit the effects of proinflammatory Th17 cells on the development of psoriasis, which may be potential therapeutic candidates for skin inflammatory disease or other autoimmune diseases. | JIGANG LEI ZHENYAO XU SUKE LI MENG LI ZHIKAI WANG PING LI JING WANG YINGLU CHEN X IAOLE SONG CHENGJIE REN MEIPING SHEN CHENGXIANG DAI | 2021 | BIOCELL2021,45,3: | 0
