| 4 | Sorption of Eu^(3+) onto nano-size silica-water interfaces显示文摘The sorption of Eu species onto nano-size silica-water interfaces is investigated at pH range of 1―8.5 and the initial Eu concentrations (CEu) of 2 × 10?5, 2 × 10?4 and 2 × 10?3 M using fluorescence spectroscopy. The sorption rate of Eu is initially low, but significantly in-creases at pH > 4. For the initial CEu of 2 × 10?5, 2 × 10?4 and 2 × 10?3 M, the dissolved Eu spe-cies are completely sorbed onto silica-water interfaces at pH = 4.75, ~5.8 and 6.6, respectively, with the respective sorption densities of ~1.58 × 10?8, 1.58 × 10?7 and 1.58 × 10?6 mol/m2. The sorbed Eu species at pH < 6 is aquo Eu3+, which is sorbed onto silica-water interfaces as an outer-sphere complex at pH < 5, but may be sorbed as an inner-sphere bidentate complex at 5 < pH < 6, due to the decrease of the NH2O to ~6 at pH = 6. At pH = 6 – 8, Eu(OH)2+, Eu(CO3)+ and Eu(CO3)2? form in the solutions, and Eu(CO3)+ is dominant at pH = ~7.5. | 7 | A T-Cell Model for the Biological Role of Selenium-Dependent Glutathione Peroxidase显示文摘The cytosolic form of selenium-dependent glutathione peroxidase detoxifies both hydrogen and lipid peroxides and therefore represents a major component of the cellular anti-oxidant defenses. In order to study the biological role of this enzyme, we generated an expression construct in a retroviral vector, which when introduced into immortalized human T-cells, resulted in significant increases in the activity of this important enzyme. This effect is stable over extended maintenance in culture. The anti-oxidant defenses in these same cells are also shown to be attenuated hy chemically reducing cellular glutathione levels. One of the fluids roughly approximates the massive dark matter halo, while the other describes the hot gas, the relatively small mass contribution from the galaxies being subsumed in the gas. By properly choosing the self-similar variables, it is possible to consistently transform the set of time-dependent two-fluid equations of spherical symmetry with self-gravity into a set of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs). | 11 | Effect of intramolecular energy transfer on the rate of unimolecular isomerization: HCN --HNC显示文摘This paper reports calculations of the rate of isomerization of HCN - HCN based on the theory of Gary and Rice as extended by Zhao and Rice. The major task is to determine the effect of intramolecular energy transfer on the prediction of the rate of isomerization. Both the full three-dimensional (3D) system and the reduced two-dimensional (2D) system obtained from freezing CN bond at 1.159 A are analyzed to check the validity of the freezing bond approximation. Meanwhile, RRKM rates are calculated to test RRKM choice of the transition state by comparing to Gary-Rice three-state model. The comparison shows that the rates from 2D model and 3D model are differing up to 20% with 2D rates consistently larger. The intramolecular energy transfer modifies the isomerization rate for HCN system up to 30% that is modestly small by the expectation.
