| 1 | Identity-aware convolutional neural networks for facial expression recognition显示文摘Facial expression recognition is a hot topic in computer vision, but it remains challenging due to the feature inconsistency caused by person-specific characteristics of facial expressions.To address such a challenge, and inspired by the recent success of deep identity network(Deep ID-Net) for face identification, this paper proposes a novel deep learning based framework for recognising human expressions with facial images. Compared to the existing deep learning methods, our proposed framework, which is based on multi-scale global images and local facial patches,can significantly achieve a better performance on facial expression recognition. | 3 | Clinical study of IL-18 and NANOG gene polymorphisms in prostate cancer patients显示文摘Objective Recent studies have shown abnormal expression of NANOG and IL-18 to be related to cancer. However, the molecular mechanism by which IL-18 and NANOG gene polymorphisms are associated with prostate cancer is unclear. In this study, we examined whether IL-18 and NANOG gene polymorphisms and their interaction with prostate cancer-related risk factor are associated with the susceptibility to and clinicopathological development of prostate cancer among Chinese men.Methods Polymorphisms in the NANOG and IL-18 genes were evaluated for susceptibility in 120 patients with prostate cancer. The control group consisted of 125 samples from Chinese men. Genotyping was conducted using Taq Man allelic discrimination assays. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software. Results No association of NANOG and IL-18 gene polymorphisms and overall prostate cancer susceptibility was detected. The IL-18-607 CC genotype was significantly associated with a higher tumor grade(P = 0.025) and stage(P =0.001). The IL-18-137 GG genotype correlated with a higher tumor grade(P = 0.028) and stage(P = 0.008). The IL-18-137 G allele was significantly more frequent in patients with lymph node metastasis(P = 0.035). The IL-18-607 CC genotype was associated with distant metastasis(P = 0.025). However, no significant association was observed between NANOG polymorphisms and any clinicopathological feature. The Cox proportional hazard model showed that tumor grade and stage grouping were independent prognostic factors in IL-18, while IL-18 polymorphism was not. Polymorphism variants in the IL-18(IL-18-607 and IL-18-137) and NANOG(genotypes AC) genes might be associated with a worse prognosis of patients with prostate cancer.Conclusion NANOG may be associated with the early stages of prostate cancer carcinogenesis. | 4 | Cloning and analysis of differentially expressed ESTs in swine muscle tissue显示文摘The obvious difference in muscle growth and meat quality traits exists between Chinese indigenous pig and exotic pigs. In order to study the reason of these phenotypic differences and search the potential gene related to growth and meat quality traits, silver-stained mRNA differential display technique was used to detect the difference with mRNA of loin-eye muscle tissue from matur-ity pigs of Lantang in Guangdong Province and Large Yorkshire. One of the newly discovered ex-pressed sequence tag (ESTsp3) was analyzed by using bioinformatic technique. The results showed: (1) nearly 2000 cDNA fragments were detected with 30 primer pairs, and 6 differentially expressed ESTs in the loin-eye muscle tissues from the two breeds were isolated and obtained. The differential fragments were cloned and sequenced. The all sequences were recorded in the GenBank. (2) The 786 bp fragment of ESTsp3 was obtained with in silico elongation system, the ORF analysis revealed that it existed as an 83 aa complete open reading frame, and the elongation sequences were verified by RT-PCR. | 16 | Transcriptome-wide profiling of RNA N^(4)-cytidine acetylation in Arabidopsis thaliana and Oryza sativa显示文摘Acetylation of N^(4)-cytidine(ac^(4)C)has recently been discovered as a novel modification of mRNA.RNA ac^(4)C modification has been shown to be a key regulator of RNA stability,RNA translation,and the thermal stress response.However,its existence in eukaryotic mRNAs is still controversial.In plants,the existence,distribution pattern,and potential function of RNA ac^(4)C modification are largely unknown.Here we report the presence of ac^(4)C in the mRNAs of both Arabidopsis thaliana and rice(Oryza sativa).By comparing two ac^(4)C sequencing methods,we found that RNA immunoprecipitation and sequencing(acRIP-seq),but not ac^(4)C sequencing,was suitable for plant RNA ac^(4)C sequencing.We present transcriptome-wide atlases of RNA ac^(4)C modification in A.thaliana and rice mRNAs obtained by acRIP-seq.Analysis of the distribution of RNA ac^(4)C modifications showed that ac^(4)C is enriched near translation start sites in rice mRNAs and near translation start sites and translation end sites in Arabidopsis mRNAs.The RNA ac^(4)C modification level is positively correlated with RNA half-life and the number of splicing variants.Similar to that in mammals,the translation efficiency of ac^(4)C target genes is significantly higher than that of other genes.Our in vitro translation results confirmed that RNA ac^(4)C modification enhances translation efficiency.We also found that RNA ac^(4)C modification is negatively correlated with RNA structure.These results suggest that ac^(4)C is a conserved mRNA modification in plants that contributes to RNA stability,splicing,translation,and secondary structure formation. | Bin Li Donghao Li Linjun Cai Qiting Zhou Cong Liu Jianzhong Lin Yixing Li Xiaoying Zhao Li Li Xuanming Liu Chongsheng He | 2023 | Molecular Plant2023,16,6: | 0 |

Methods: The study cohort included 126 patients with prostate cancer. Control group consisted of 125 samples from Chinese population. Genomic DNA was extracted from EDTA-anticoagulated peripheral blood leukocytes by the salting-out method. The genotyping of the two IL-18 polymorphisms was performed using predesigned TaqMan SNP Genotyping Assays. Results: The studied IL-18 gene polymorphisms did not influence susceptibility to prostate cancer in the analyzed group of patients (IL-18-607, P = 0.342; IL-18-137 P = 0.715) but may contribute to disease onset and aggressiveness. IL-18-607 CC genotype was significantly associated with higher tumor grade (P = 0.025) and stage (P = 0.001). IL-18-137 GG genotype was correlated with higher tumor grade (P = 0.018) and stage (P = 0.007). The Cox proportional hazard model showed that tuumor grade and stage grouping were independent prognostic factors but IL-18 polymorphism was not. Polymorphism variants in the IL-18 gene (IL-18-607 and IL-18-137) may be associated with a worse prognosis for prostate cancer.
