1Timing of the Wudangshan, Yaolinghe volcanic sequences and mafic sills in South Qinling: U-Pb zircon geochronology and tectonic implication显示文摘The Wudangshan, Yaolinghe volcanic-sedimentary sequences and doleritic-gabbroic sills comprise the largest exposed Precambrian basement in South Qinling. Zircons separated from 5 volcanic-pyroclas- tic samples of the Wudangshan Group, 2 volcanic samples of the Yaolinghe Group and one sample for the mafic sills were used for U-Pb dating by laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma mass spec- trometry (LA-ICPMS). The results reveal that the Wudangshan volcanic sequence was formed at (755±3) Ma (a weighted mean from the 5 samples, MSWD=0.47), whereas the Yaolinghe volcanic suite and the mafic sill were crystallized at (685±5) (2 samples, MSWD=0.36) and (679±3) Ma (MSWD=1.6), respectively, which are equal to each other within analysis errors. These ages are markedly younger than those previously documented for the rocks. The newly obtained ages for the Wudangshan and Yaolinghe Groups are identical to those of the bottom Liantuo and slightly older than those of the Nantuo Forma- tions, respectively, lower strata of the Nanhua (middle to late Neoproterozoic) stratotype section in eastern Three Gorges, Yangtze craton. A range of inherited magmatic zircons was recognized with ages of 830 to 780 Ma, which are typical of Neoprotzrozoic magmatisms recorded along the margins and interior of the Yangtze craton. Thus, there is Neoproterozoic basement comprising 830―780 Ma igne- ous suites in South Qinling; the inherited zircons were detrital sediments derived from the northern margin of the Yangtze craton. 2U-Pb dating of detrital zircons from the Wudangshan Group in the South Qinling and its geological significance显示文摘U-Pb dating was made by the LA-ICP-MS method for detrital zircons from the Wudangshan volcanic-sedimentary succession in the South Qinling. Samples comprise quartz sandstones of the Wudangshan Group collected from the base of the Yangping For-mation and an upper layer of the Shuangtai Formation overlain its volcanic sequence, and two river-sand collections from the drainage systems cutting across the two formations, respectively. The results show that the Yangping detrital zircons are domi-nated by 830–780 Ma grains with a minor population of ~1.0–0.84 Ga and sporadic grains of ~2.6, ~2.4 and 2.0 Ga, whereas the Shuangtai zircons yield an upper intercept age of 763±33 Ma, identical to the timing of the Wudangshan volcanism within error, with few concordant grains of 1.9 and 0.86 Ga. Age spectra for the two river-sand samples are similar to those of the Yangping and Shuangtai Formations, respectively. It thus suggests that the Wudangshan strata are less than 780 Ma, whereas their major detrital zircon populations of 1.0–0.85 Ga and 830–780 Ma are consistent with timing of the Hannan magmatic activities along the northwestern margin of the South China Block. This suggests a Hannan or adjacent area provenance for the Wudangshan strata. The Wudang area is characterized by rift-related igneous events at ~755 and ~680 Ma, respectively, pointing to a tectono-magmatic history different from the Hannan area. 3Mesoproterozoic to Paleozoic Nd isotope stratigraphy of the South China continental nucleus and its geological significance显示文摘The Yangtze continental nucleus in South China is situated in the Huangling-Shennongjia area in western Hubei Province.It comprises the early Precambrian crystalline basement and generally successive Proterozoic to Phanerozoic sedimentary covers.This paper reports a comprehensive Nd isotope study of fine-grained sedimentary rocks from the regional Mesoproterozoic to early Paleozoic strata.The Nd model ages display a V-shaped variation from ~2.5-2.8 Ga during the late Mesoproterozoic through ~1.5-1.7 Ga during the Neoproterozoic Nanhua Period to ~1.8-2.1 Ga during the Paleozoic Ordovician,with corresponding Nd (t) ranges of 11 to 14,1.1 to 5.3,and 7.9 to 9.9,respectively.This evolutionary trend broadly resembles those documented in the sedimentary strata along the southeastern margin of the Yangtze Craton and within the Jiangnan orogenic belt,indicating that the whole South China block underwent a mantle-input related tectono-magmatic event at ~0.8 Ga or earlier.However,the Huangling-Shennongjia area is discriminated from the other two regions by highly variable model ages (~1.5-2.7 Ga) and Nd (t) values (1.38-12.0) of the early Mesoproterozoic strata.Combined with the Archean model ages of the late Mesoproterozoic strata,it is suggested that the Mesoproterozoic sedimentary provenance of the Yangtze continental nucleus was distinct from that of the southeastern Yangtze Craton,likely indicative of an intervening aulacogen (or rift zone) or oceanic basin.In addition,the high comparability in Neoproterozoic to Paleozoic Nd isotope stratigraphy between the Yangtze Craton and the Jiangnan orogenic belt infers that the whole South China block had shared the same sedimentary basin and provenance since the Yangtze-Cathaysia welding at ~0.9 Ga.Thus,it is proposed that the Yangtze Craton had comprised a collage of micro-continents during the pre-Neoproterozoic until the Rodinia assemblage when the primitive South China block was formed.BAI Xiao LING WenLi DUAN RuiChun QIU XiaoFei LIU ChengXin KUANG Hua GAO YongJuan ZHOU Lian CHEN ZiWan LU Shah-Song 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,11:8

6Decoupled Ce-Nd Isotopic Systematics of the Neoproterozoic Huangling Intrusive Complex and Its Geological Significance, Eastern Three Gorges, South China显示文摘Cerium is one of multivalent rear earth elements, which can transfer from trivalence to tretavalence at oxidizing environment. This process may cause variable degrees of fractionation of Ce from other trivalent rear earth elements, and thus may provide specific insight into the geological processes associated with marked redoxomorphism. Multiple geochemical tracing of Sr-Nd-Ce isotopes are performed on the felsic and mafic intrusives of the Neoproterozoic(~800 Ma) Huangling complex located at the eastern Three Gorges, South China. The intrusive rocks exclusively show various extents of negative Ce anomalies. On the εCe-εNd plot, most samples from the mafic intrusions scatter within the second quadrant, whereas those from the felsic intrusions within the fourth Quadrant. Both of the two groups exhibit relatively large range of ?Ce(t) variation but limited ?Nd(t) range, which cause a deviation from the 'crustal array' and reveal a decoupled Nd-Ce isotope correlation. The intermediate-felsic suite have varied Ce/Ce* ratios but broadly proximate εCe(t) values, indicating that their negative Ce anomalies were generated during the magmatism; on the contrary, a positive correlation between εCe(t) and Ce/Ce* is observed for the intermediate-mafic suite, an indication of an origin of post-magmatic alteration or metamorphism for their Ce anomalies. Calculation of model age, the occurrence age of negative Ce anomalies(TCe) for the intermediate-mafic samples infers that the alteration events took place >350 Ma. Data showed that negative Ce anomalies of the felsic intrusions may reflect an increase of oxygen fugacity during magma ascending, rather than an inheritance from their source rocks. 7Whistle signal variations among three Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin populations in the South China Sea:a combined effect of the Qiongzhou Strait’s geographical barrier function and local ambient noise?显示文摘Geographic variations in the dolphin whistles could be useful in assessing association and isolation among populations.Whistle of free-ranging Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins(Sousa chinensis)among the Pearl River Estuary(PRE),Leizhou Bei(LZB)and Sanniang Bay(SNB)populations were investigated.A total of 2850 whistles with legible fundamental contour were extracted and 15 acoustic parameters were measured.Contrary to SNB,PRE and LZB had the same relative proportion of tonal type compositions with flat and sine representing the most frequent types.The generalized linear model analysis showed significant acoustic difference among populations and tonal types.All frequency parameters in SNB were significantly higher than those in PRE and LZB,where no significant variation was observed in most of the parameters either at the population level or within each tonal type.Canonical discriminant functions analysis showed a smaller difference between PRE and LZB than between PRE and SNB and between LZB and SNB.Compared with previous recordings,recent recordings demonstrated a consistent pattern of becoming higher in whistle frequency parameters in both LZB and SNB populations,suggesting that noise pollution in LZB and SNB increasing with time according to the acoustic niche hypothesis.Dolphin whistle’s geographic variations could be shaped by the combined function of the geographical barrier function of the Qiongzhou strait and local ambient noise.Considering the isolated condition and the relatively smaller population size of the humpback dolphin in the SNB,more effective and proactive conservation actions should be taken to prevent the extinction of small populations.Jing YUAN Zhitao WANG Pengxiang DUAN Yousheng XIAO Hongke ZHANG Zhixiong HUANG Ruichun ZHOU Hua WEN Kexiong WANG Ding WANG 2021Integrative Zoology2021,16,4:0
