4Carbon pools and fluxes in the China Seas and adjacent oceans显示文摘The China Seas include the South China Sea, East China Sea, Yellow Sea, and Bohai Sea. Located off the Northwestern Pacific margin, covering 4700000 km^2 from tropical to northern temperate zones, and including a variety of continental margins/basins and depths, the China Seas provide typical cases for carbon budget studies. The South China Sea being a deep basin and part of the Western Pacific Warm Pool is characterized by oceanic features; the East China Sea with a wide continental shelf, enormous terrestrial discharges and open margins to the West Pacific, is featured by strong cross-shelf materials transport; the Yellow Sea is featured by the confluence of cold and warm waters; and the Bohai Sea is a shallow semiclosed gulf with strong impacts of human activities. Three large rivers, the Yangtze River, Yellow River, and Pearl River, flow into the East China Sea, the Bohai Sea, and the South China Sea, respectively. The Kuroshio Current at the outer margin of the Chinese continental shelf is one of the two major western boundary currents of the world oceans and its strength and position directly affect the regional climate of China. These characteristics make the China Seas a typical case of marginal seas to study carbon storage and fluxes. This paper systematically analyzes the literature data on the carbon pools and fluxes of the Bohai Sea,Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea, including different interfaces(land-sea, sea-air, sediment-water, and marginal sea-open ocean) and different ecosystems(mangroves, wetland, seagrass beds, macroalgae mariculture, coral reefs, euphotic zones, and water column). Among the four seas, the Bohai Sea and South China Sea are acting as CO_2 sources, releasing about0.22 and 13.86–33.60 Tg C yr^(-1) into the atmosphere, respectively, whereas the Yellow Sea and East China Sea are acting as carbon sinks, absorbing about 1.15 and 6.92–23.30 Tg C yr^(-1) of atmospheric CO_2, respectively. Overall, if only the CO_2 exchange at the sea-air interface is considered, the Chinese marginal seas appear to be a source of atmospheric CO_2, with a net release of 6.01–9.33 Tg C yr^(-1), mainly from the inputs of rivers and adjacent oceans. The riverine dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) input into the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea are 5.04, 14.60, and 40.14 Tg C yr^(-1),respectively. The DIC input from adjacent oceans is as high as 144.81 Tg C yr^(-1), significantly exceeding the carbon released from the seas to the atmosphere. In terms of output, the depositional fluxes of organic carbon in the Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea are 2.00, 3.60, 7.40, and 5.92 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. The fluxes of organic carbon from the East China Sea and South China Sea to the adjacent oceans are 15.25–36.70 and 43.93 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. The annual carbon storage of mangroves, wetlands, and seagrass in Chinese coastal waters is 0.36–1.75 Tg C yr^(-1), with a dissolved organic carbon(DOC) output from seagrass beds of up to 0.59 Tg C yr^(-1). Removable organic carbon flux by Chinese macroalgae mariculture account for 0.68 Tg C yr^(-1) and the associated POC depositional and DOC releasing fluxes are 0.14 and 0.82 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. Thus, in total, the annual output of organic carbon, which is mainly DOC, in the China Seas is 81.72–104.56 Tg C yr^(-1). The DOC efflux from the East China Sea to the adjacent oceans is 15.00–35.00 Tg C yr^(-1). The DOC efflux from the South China Sea is 31.39 Tg C yr^(-1). 6Clinical characteristics of coronavirus disease 2019 in patients aged 80 years and older显示文摘Objective: Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) has raised concern around the world as an epidemic or pandemic. As data on COVID-19 has grown, it has become clear that older adults have a disproportionately high rate of death from COVID-19. This study describes the early clinical characteristics of COVID-19 in patients with more than 80 years of age.Methods: Epidemiological, clinical, laboratory, radiological, and treatment data from 17 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 between January 20 and February 20, 2020 were collected and analyzed retrospectively. Treatment outcomes among subgroups of patients with non-severe and severe symptoms of COVID-19 were compared.Results: Of the 17 hospitalized patients with COVID-19, the median age was 88.0 years(interquartile range, 86.6–90.0 years;range, 80.0–100.0 years) and 12(70.6%) were men. The age distribution of patients was not significantly different between non-severe group and severe group. All patients had chronic pre-existing conditions. Hypertension and cardiovascular diseases were the most common chronic conditions in both subgroups. The most common symptoms at the onset of COVID-19 were fever(n = 13;76.5%), fatigue(n = 11;64.7%), and cough(n = 5;29.4%). Lymphopenia was observed in all patients, and lymphopenia was significantly more severe in the severe group than that in non-severe group(0.4×10~9/L vs 1.2×10~9/L, P = 0.014). The level of serum creatinine was higher in the severe group than in the non-severe group(99.0 lmol/L vs 62.5 lmol/L, P = 0.038). The most common features of chest computed tomography images were nodular foci in 10(58.8%) patients and pleural thickening in 7(41.2%) patients. All patients received antiviral therapy, while some patients also received intravenous antibiotics therapy(76.5%), Chinese medicinal preparation therapy(Lianhuaqingwen capsule, 64.7%), corticosteroids(35.3%) or immunoglobin(29.4%). Eight patients(47.1%) were transferred to the intensive care unit because of complications. Ten patients(58.8%) received intranasal oxygen, while 3(17.6%)received non-invasive mechanical ventilation, and 4(23.5%) received high-flow oxygen. As of June 20,7(41.2%) patients had been discharged and 10(58.8% of this cohort, 77.8% of severe patients) had died.Conclusion: The mortality of patients aged 80 years and older with severe COVID-19 symptoms was high.Lymphopenia was a characteristic laboratory result in these patients, and the severity of lymphopenia was indicative of the severity of COVID-19. 8Boosting proso millet yield by altering canopy light distribution in proso millet/mung bean intercropping systems显示文摘To elucidate the mechanism by which intercropping proso millet(Panicum miliaceum L.)with mung bean(Vigna radiata L.)increases proso millet yield and to determine how this higher yield results from maximization of resources use efficiency,we designed and conducted four strip intercropping row arrangements,including two rows of proso millet alternating with two rows of mung bean(2P2M),four rows of proso millet alternating with two rows of mung bean(4P2M),four rows of proso millet alternating with four rows of mung bean(4P4M),two rows of proso millet alternating with four rows of mung bean(2P4M),sole proso millet(SP,control)and sole mung bean(SM,control)in Yulin,Shaanxi,China.Photosynthetically active radiation(PAR)in the canopy,radiation use efficiency(RUE),leaf photosynthetic characteristics,dry matter accumulation and allocation,and yield of proso millet were investigated.The results showed that the intercropping systems had higher PAR than the monoculture.Mean PAR intensities were increased by respectively 2.2%–23.4%,19.8%–59.7%,and 61.2%–133.3%in the proso millet upper,middle and lower canopies compared with SP.The increase in PAR directly increased RUE,a result attributed mainly to the increase in photosynthetic capacity,including net photosynthetic rate and chlorophyll content.These responses resulted in increased dry matter allocation to plant organs.Yield of intercropped proso millet was 6.8%–37.3%higher than that under monoculture and the land equivalent ratios for the different intercropping patterns were all greater than unity(>1).In general,yield followed a positive linear function of PAR in the intercropping system.The results indicated that intercropping can boost proso millet yield,evidently by altering light distribution within its canopy and consequently increasing RUE,thereby increasing leaf photosynthetic capacity,dry matter accumulation,and allocation to the grain.The optimum combination for improving the growth and yield of proso millet on the Loess Plateau of China was 2P4M.Xiangwei Gong Uzizerimana Ferdinand Ke Dang Jing Li Guanghua Chen Yan Luo Pu Yang Baili Feng 2020The Crop Journal2020,8,2:6
9Human adenovirus(HAdV)infection in children with acute respiratory tract infections in Guangzhou,China,2010–2021:a molecular epidemiology study显示文摘Background Human adenovirus(HAdV)infection can cause a variety of diseases.It is a major pathogen of pediatric acute respiratory tract infections(ARIs)and can be life-threatening in younger children.We described the epidemiology and subtypes shifting of HAdV among children with ARI in Guangzhou,China.Methods We conducted a retrospective study of 161,079 children diagnosed with acute respiratory illness at the Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center between 2010 and 2021.HAdV specimens were detected by real-time PCR and the hexon gene was used for phylogenetic analysis.Results Before the COVID-19 outbreak in Guangzhou,the annual frequency of adenovirus infection detected during this period ranged from 3.92%to 13.58%,with an epidemic peak every four to fve years.HAdV demonstrated a clear seasonal distribution,with the lowest positivity in March and peaking during summer(July or August)every year.A signifcant increase in HAdV cases was recorded for 2018 and 2019,which coincided with a shift in the dominant HAdV subtype from HAdV-3 to HAdV-7.The latter was associated with a more severe disease compared to HAdV-3.The average mortality proportion for children infected with HAdV from 2016 to 2019 was 0.38%but increased to 20%in severe cases.After COVID-19 emerged,HAdV cases dropped to 2.68%,suggesting that non-pharmaceutical interventions probably reduced the transmission of HAdV in the community.Conclusion Our study provides the foundation for the understanding of the epidemiology of HAdV and its associated risks in children in Southern China.Yi Chen Tao Lin Chang‑Bing Wang Wan‑Li Liang Guang‑Wan Lian Mark Zanin Sook‑San Wong Xin‑Gui Tian Jia‑Yu Zhong Ying‑Ying Zhang Jia‑Hui Xie Ling‑Ling Zheng Fei‑Yan Chen Run Dang Ming‑Qi Zhao Yi‑Yu Yang Rong Zhou Bing Zhu 2022World Journal of Pediatrics2022,18,8:5

11Microdissection and amplification of the chromosome arm 5S in a rice telo-tetrasomic显示文摘The rice aneuploids with telochromosomes are ideal genetic stocks for chromosome arm identification and microdissection. A rice telo-tetrasomic line with two extra short arms of chromosome 5 (5S) was used in the present study. The arms of 5S were microdissected from the prometaphase cells in mitosis and amplified with linker adaptor PCR (LA-PCR). 12Apple SERRATE negatively mediates drought resistance by regulating MdMYB88 and MdMYB124 and microRNA biogenesis显示文摘The function of serrate(SE)in miRNA biogenesis in Arabidopsis is well elucidated,whereas its role in plant drought resistance is largely unknown.In this study,we report that MdSE acts as a negative regulator of apple(Malus×domestica)drought resistance by regulating the expression levels of MdMYB88 and MdMYB124 and miRNAs,including mdm-miR156,mdm-miR166,mdm-miR172,mdm-miR319,and mdm-miR399.MdSE interacts with MdMYB88 and MdMYB124,two positive regulators of apple drought resistance.MdSE decreases the transcript and protein levels of MdMYB88 and MdMYB124,which directly regulate the expression of MdNCED3,a key enzyme in abscisic acid(ABA)biosynthesis.Furthermore,MdSE is enriched in the same region of the MdNECD3 promoter where MdMYB88/MdMYB124 binds.Consistently,MdSE RNAi transgenic plants are more sensitive to ABA-induced stomatal closure,whereas MdSE OE plants are less sensitive.In addition,under drought stress,MdSE is responsible for the biogenesis of mdm-miR399,a negative regulator of drought resistance,and negatively regulates miRNAs,including mdm-miR156,mdm-miR166,mdm-miR172,and mdm-miR319,which are positive regulators of drought resistance.Taken together,by revealing the negative role of MdSE,our results broaden our understanding of the apple drought response and provide a candidate gene for apple drought improvement through molecular breeding.Xuewei Li Pengxiang Chen Yinpeng Xie Yan Yan Liping Wang Huan Dang Jing Zhang Lingfei Xu Fengwang Ma Qingmei Guan 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:4
13Exercise promotes angiogenesis by enhancing endothelial cell fatty acid utilization via liver-derived extracellular vesicle miR-122-5p显示文摘Background:Angiogenesis constitutes a major mechanism responsible for exercise-induced beneficial effects.Our previous study identified a cluster of differentially expressed extracellular vesicle microRNAs(miRNAs)after exercise and found that some of them act as exerkines.However,whether these extracellular vesicle miRNAs mediate the exercise-induced angiogenesis remains unknown.Methods:A 9-day treadmill training was used as an exercise model in C57BL/6 mice.Liver-specific adeno-associated virus 8 was used to knock down microRNA-122-5p(miR-122-5p).Human umbilical vein endothelial cells were used in vitro.Results:Among these differentially expressed extracellular vesicle miRNAs,miR-122-5p was identified as a potent pro-angiogenic factor that activated vascular endothelial growth factor signaling and promoted angiogenesis both in vivo and in vitro.Exercise increased circulating levels of miR-122-5p,which was produced mainly by the liver and shuttled by extracellular vesicles in mice.Inhibition of circulating miR-122-5p or liver-specific knockdown of miR-122-5p significantly abolished the exercise-induced pro-angiogenic effect in skeletal muscles,and exerciseimproved muscle performance in mice.Mechanistically,miR-122-5p promoted angiogenesis through shifting substrate preference to fatty acids in endothelial cells,and miR-122-5p upregulated endothelial cell fatty-acid utilization by targeting 1-acyl-sn-glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase(AGPAT1).In addition,miR-122-5p increased capillary density in perilesional skin tissues and accelerated wound healing in mice.Conclusion:These findings demonstrated that exercise promotes angiogenesis through upregulation of liver-derived extracellular vesicle miR-122-5p,which enhances fatty acid utilization by targeting AGPAT1 in endothelial cells,highlighting the therapeutic potential of miR-122-5p in tissue repair.Jing Lou Jie Wu Mengya Feng Xue Dang Guiling Wu Hongyan Yang Yan Wang Jia Li Yong Zhao Changhong Shi Jiankang Liu Lin Zhao Xing Zhang Feng Gao 2022Journal of Sport and Health Science2022,11,4:4
14Dendrocalamus latiflorus and its component rutin exhibit glucose-lowering activities by inhibiting hepatic glucose production via AKT activation显示文摘The potential medicinal value of Ma bamboo(Dendrocalamus latiflorus), one of the most popular and economically important bamboo species in China, has been underestimated. In the present study, we found that D. latiflorus leaf extract(DLE) reduced fasting blood glucose levels, body weight,and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol with low liver toxicity in db/db mice. In addition, gene expression profiling was performed and pathway enrichment analysis showed that DLE affected metabolic pathways.Importantly, DLE activated the AKT signaling pathway and reduced glucose production by downregulating glucose-6-phosphatase(G6 PC) and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase 1(PCK1) expression. Moreover, network pharmacology analysis identified rutin as an active component in DLE through targeting insulin growth factor 1 receptor(IGF1 R), an upstream signaling transducer of AKT. 17Induced regulatory T cells suppress Tel cells through TGF-β signaling to ameliorate STZ-induced type 1 diabetes mellitus显示文摘Type 1 diabetes mellitus(T1D)is a chronic autoimmune condition in which the immune system destroys insulin-producing pancreatic β cells.In addition to well-established pathogenic effector T cells,regulatory T cells(Tregs)have also been shown to be defective in T1D.Thus,an increasing number of therapeutic approaches are being developed to target Tregs.However,the role and mechanisms of TGF-β-induced Tregs(iTregs)in T1D remain poorly understood.Here,using a streptozotocin(STZ)-induced preclinical T1D mouse model,we found that iTregs could ameliorate the development of T1D and preserve β cell function.The preventive effect was associated with the inhibition of type 1 cytotoxic T(Tel)cell function and rebalancing the Treg/Tc1 cell ratio in recipients.Furthermore,we showed that the underlying mechanisms were due to the TGF-β-mediated combinatorial actions of mTOR and TCF1.In addition to the preventive role,the therapeutic effects of iTregs on the established STZ-T1D and nonobese diabetic(NOD)mouse models were tested,which revealed improved β cell function.Our findings therefore provide key new insights into the basic mechanisms involved in the therapeutic role of iTregs in T1D.Li Zhou Xuemin He Peihong Cai Ting Li Rongdong Peng Junlong Dang Yue Li Haicheng Li Feng Huang Guojun Shi Chichu Xie Yan Lu Yanming Chen 2021Cellular & Molecular Immunology2021,18,3:3
18Preparation and electrochemical property of CMC/MWCNT composite using ionic liquid as solvent显示文摘Carboxymethyl cellulose sodium(CMC)/multi-walled carbon nanotube(MWCNT) composite was prepared by dissolving CMC with ionic liquid as solvent.The microstructure and electrochemical properties of CMC/MWCNTs were studied using field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM),high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HR-TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD) system and electrochemical workstation.The experimental results indicated that the CMC dissolved with ionic liquid could be uniformly enwrapped on the surface of MWCNTs,and the coating thickness of CMC was about 5.4 nm.There are obvious oxidation peaks in the cyclic voltammograms curves of glassy carbon electrode coated with a CMC/MWCNT composite in H2O2 phosphate buffer solution.The MWCNT content and ultrasonic time strongly affected the dispersivity and electrochemical property of CMC/MWCNT composite.While the MWCNT content and ultrasonic processing time was 2 wt% and 2 h respectively,CMC/MWCNT composite exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity.ZHAO TingKai LIU LeHao LI GuangMing DU Li ZHAO Xing YAN Jin CHENG YouLiang DANG ALei LI TieHu 2012Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,14:3
19Long-term variations of X-ray pulse profiles for the Crab pulsar:data analysis and modeling显示文摘The pulse profiles of the Crab pulsar(as well as some other pulsars)vary with time.They can lead to a major source of intrinsic timing noise,which lacks a detailed physical model.The phase separation?between the first left peak(P1)and the second right peak(P2)is a key parameter that shows the variations of pulse profiles for the Crab pulsar.It was found that the evolution of?has a tendency with increasing rates of 0.82?±0.25?,0.80?±0.54?,and 0.77?±0.28?per century for the 2-6,6-15,and15-60 ke V bands,respectively.Furthermore,the flux ratios(P2/P1)of X-ray pulse profiles in the three bands were calculated,and the derived flux ratios were consistent with the radio and X-ray measurements of the Insight-HXMT.In addition to discovering the physical origin of the pulse changes,the high-SNR X-ray pulse profiles were simulated in the annular gap model,and two model parameters(e.g.,the maximum emission heights of the two peaks)were observed to slightly affect the variations of peak separation.We fitted the long-term variations of emission heights of the two peaks and discovered that the emission heights showed increasing tendencies with time.Variations of these emission heights induced a characteristic period derivative,and a complete formula for both the magnetic dipole radiation and wind-particle-induced variations of the moment of inertia was used for the pulsar’s spin-down to obtain the variation rate˙αof the magnetic inclination angle,which was-1.60?per century.Intrinsic timing noise is observed to be mainly induced by the variations of pulse profiles,which might correlate with a characteristic spin period derivative arising from the fluctuations of the emission regions.This work will lay a foundation for understanding the origin of intrinsic timing noise and making high-precision timing models in the future.LunHua Shang YuanJie Du XiangQun Cui ShiJun Dang JiGuang Lu JunTao Bai QiJun Zhi YouLi Tuo LinLi Yan LiangWei Huang XinYuan Zhang XiaoMin Bei QingQing Lin GuoJun Qiao Hua Shen RiHong Zhu 2020Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2020,63,10:2
