1Clinically relevant factors associated with quantitative optical coherence tomography angiography metrics in deep capillary plexus in patients with diabetes显示文摘Background:To test clinically relevant factors associated with quantitative artifact-free deep capillary plexus(DCP)metrics in patients with diabetes mellitus(DM).Methods:563 eligible eyes(221 with no diabetic retinopathy[DR],135 with mild DR,130 with moderate DR,and 77 with severe DR)from 334 subjects underwent optical coherence tomography-angiography(OCT-A)with a swept-source OCT(Triton DRI-OCT,Topcon,Inc.,Tokyo,Japan).Strict criteria were applied to exclude from analysis those DCP images with artifacts and of poor quality,including projection artifacts,motion artifacts,blurriness,signal loss,B-scan segmentation error,or low-quality score.A customized MATLAB program was then used to quantify DCP morphology from the artifact-free DCP images by calculating three metrics:foveal avascular zone(FAZ),vessel density(VD),and fractal dimension(FD).Results:166(29.5%)eyes were excluded after quality control,leaving in the analysis 397 eyes(170 with no DR,101 with mild DR,90 with moderate DR,36 with severe DR)from 250 subjects.In the multiple regression models,larger FAZ area was associated with more severe DR(β=0.687;p=0.037),shorter axial length(AL)(β=−0.171;p=0.003),thinner subfoveal choroid thickness(β=−0.122;p=0.031),and lower body mass index(BMI)(β=−0.090;p=0.047).Lower VD was associated with more severe DR(β=−0.842;p=0.001),shorter AL(β=0.107;p=0.039),and poorer visual acuity(VA)(β=−0.133;p=0.021).Lower FD was associated with more severe DR(β=−0.891;p<0.001)and with older age(β=−0.142;p=0.004).Conclusions:Quantitative artifact-free DCP metrics are associated with VA,DR severity,AL,subfoveal choroidal thickness,age,and BMI in diabetic patients.The effects of ocular and systemic factors should be considered for meaningful interpretations of DCP changes in DM patients.Fang Yao Tang Erica O.Chan Zihan Sun Raymond Wong Jerry Lok Simon Szeto Jason C.Chan Alexander Lam Clement C.Tham Danny S.Ng Carol Y.Cheung 2020Eye and Vision2020,7,1:7

3Graphene-loaded metal wire grating for deep and broadband THz modulation in total internal reflection geometry显示文摘We employed a metallic wire grating loaded with graphene and operating in total internal reflection (TIR) geometry to realize deep and broadband THz modulation. The non-resonant field enhancement effect of the evanescent wave in TIR geometry and in the subwavelength wire grating was combined to demonstrate a ~77% modulation depth (MD) in the frequency range of 0.2–1.4 THz. This MD, achieved electrically with a SiO_2∕Si gated graphene device, was 4.5 times higher than that of the device without a metal grating in transmission geometry. By optimizing the parameters of the metallic wire grating, the required sheet conductivity of graphene for deep modulation was lowered to 0.87 mS. 4Comparison on Adsorptive Separation of n-Paraffins Based on Binderless and Binder-containing Zeolite 5A Pellets显示文摘Binderless zeolite is considered to be a potential alternative for binder-containing zeolite in the industrial applications of adsorptive separation process. Synthesized binderless zeolite and commercial binder-containing product were used in adsorptive separation of n-paraffins from a model oil, with their performance compared. It is indicated that the binderless zeolite exhibits by 25%-35% higher in saturated adsorption capacity and by 115%-130% more adsorption amount at the breakthrough point with much shorter length of mass-transfer zone. Adsorptive separation of n-paraffins from naphtha was carried out in a fixed-bed adsorber containing the synthesized binderless zeolite 5 A under the operating conditions covering a feed space velocity of 90 h-1 and an adsorption temperature of 573 K. 6Mechanical and biological properties of Ti–(0–25 wt%)Nb alloys for biomedical implants application显示文摘Binary titanium–niobium(Ti–Nb)alloys have recently been attracted due to low Young’s moduli and non-toxic properties.This study explores the influence of low Nb content(0–25 wt%)on the comprehensive parameters of tensile stress–strain relationships(ultimate strength(rUTS),yield strength(r0.2)and elastic modulus(E)),surfaces properties(Vickers microhardness,surface roughness(Ra),water contact angle(WCA),X-ray diffraction(XRD)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)),corrosion resistance(in artificial saliva and lactic acid)and biological properties(cytotoxicity and alkaline phosphatase activity of MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblasts)of Ti–xNb alloys(x紏5,10,15,20 and 25 wt%),with using commercially pure grade 2 titanium(cp-Ti)as control.XRD results shown that all the Ti–xNb alloys comprised atb Ti alloy phases,such that the b phase increased correspondingly with the increased amount of Nb in the alloy,as well as the reduction of E(69–87 GPa).Except Ti–5Nb,all other Ti–xNb alloys showed a significantly higher hardness,increased rUTS and r0.2,and decreased WCA compared with cp-Ti.No corrosion was detected on Ti–xNb alloys and cp-Ti in artificial saliva and lactic acid solutions.The cytotoxicity of Ti–xNb alloys was comparable to that of cp-Ti in MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblasts without interference from differentiation behaviour,but the proliferation rate of the Ti–5Nb alloy was lower than other groups.In overall,binary Ti–(10–25 wt%)Nb alloys are promising candidate for orthopaedic and dental implants due to their improved mechanical properties and comparable biological performance,while Ti–5Nb should be used with caution.Yuqing Zhang Danni Sun Jun Cheng James Kit Hon Tsoi Jiang Chen 2020Regenerative Biomaterials2020,7,1:2

10Atomically Dispersed Fe-N_4 Modified with Precisely Located S for Highly Efficient Oxygen Reduction显示文摘Immobilizing metal atoms by multiple nitrogen atoms has triggered exceptional catalytic activity toward many critical electrochemical reactions due to their merits of highly unsaturated coordination and strong metal-substrate interaction.Herein,atomically dispersed Fe-NC material with precise sulfur modification to Fe periphery(termed as Fe-NSC) was synthesized,X-ray absorption near edge structure analysis confirmed the central Fe atom being stabilized in a specific configuration of Fe(N3)(N-C-S).By enabling precisely localized S doping,the electronic structure of Fe-N4 moiety could be mediated,leading to the beneficial adjustment of absorption/desorption properties of reactant/intermediate on Fe center.Density functional theory simulation suggested that more negative charge density would be localized over Fe-N4 moiety after S doping,allowing weakened binding capability to *OH intermediates and faster charge transfer from Fe center to O species.Electrochemical measurements revealed that the Fe-NSC sample exhibited significantly enhanced oxygen reduction reaction performance compared to the S-free Fe-NC material(termed as Fe-NC),showing an excellent onset potential of 1.09 V and half-wave potential of 0.92 V in 0.1 M KOH.Our work may enlighten relevant studies regarding to accessing improvement on the catalytic performance of atomically dispersed M-NC materials by managing precisely tuned local environments of M-Nx moiety.Yin Jia Xuya Xiong Danni Wang Xinxuan Duan Kai Sun Yajie Li Lirong Zheng Wenfeng Lin Mingdong Dong Guoxin Zhang Wen Liu Xiaoming Sun 2020Nano-Micro Letters2020,12,9:1
11Bioengineering extracellular vesicles as novel nanocarriers towards brain disorders显示文摘Despite noteworthy technological progress and promising preclinical trials,brain disorders are still the leading causes of death globally.Extracellular vesicles(EVs),nano-/micro-sized membrane vesicles carrying bioactive molecules,are involved in cellular communication.Based on their unique properties,including superior biocompatibility,non-immunogenicity,and blood-brain barrier(BBB)penetration,EVs can shield their cargos from immune clearance and transport them to specific site,which have attracted increasing interests as novel nanocarriers for brain disorders.However,considering the limitations of native EVs,such as poor encapsulation efficiency,inadequate targeting capability,uncontrolled drug release,and limited production,researchers bioengineer EVs to fully exploit the clinical potential.Herein,this review initially describes the basic properties,biogenesis,and uptake process of EVs from different subtypes.Then,we highlight the application of EVs derived from different sources for personalized therapy and novel strategies to construct bioengineered EVs for enhanced diagnosis and treatment of brain disorders.Besides,it also presents a systematic comparison between EVs and other brain-targeted nanocarriers.Finally,existing challenges and future perspectives of EVs have been discussed,hoping to bolster the research from benchtop to bedside.Jie Wu Lei Ma Danni Sun Xinru Zhang Jiwei Cui Yingjiang Du Yumiao Guo Xue Wang Liuqing Di Ruoning Wang 2023Nano Research2023,16,2:1

14Graphene enhancedα-MnO_(2) for photothermal catalytic decomposition of carcinogen formaldehyde显示文摘Formaldehyde(HCHO)causes increasing concerns due to its ubiquitously found in indoor air and being irritative and carcinogenic to humans.Photothermal-catalysis developed in recent years has been considered as a significant strategy for enhancing catalytic activity.Manganese oxides,compared with its strong thermocatalytic activity,generally suffer from much lower photocatalytic activity make its photochemical properties less concerned.Herein,α-MnO_(2)nanowires were composited with the graphene oxide(GO)via mechanical grinding and co-precipitating method,respectively.α-MnO_(2)/GO nanohybrids prepared by co-precipitating method exhibits excellent activity,achieving 100%decomposition of HCHO with the solar-light irradiation at ambient temperature.It is found that,besides the photo-driven thermocatalysis,the photocatalysis mechanism made a major contribution to the decomposition of HCHO.The incorporation of GO,on the one hand,is beneficial to improve the optical absorption capacity and photothermal conversion efficiency;on the other hand,is conductive to electron transfer and effective separation of electrons and holes.These synergistic effects significantly improve the catalytic activity ofα-MnO_(2)/GO nanohybrids.This work proposes a new approach for the utilization of solar energy by combining manganese oxides,and also develops an efficient photothermal-catalyst to control HCHO pollution in indoor air.Xiaoshan Zeng Chuanjia Shan Mingdi Sun Danni Ding Shaopeng Rong 2022Chinese Chemical Letters2022,33,11:1

17Phylogenetic Analysis and Molecular Identification of the Six Reticulitermes Species Using Different Markers显示文摘The tennite genus Reticulitermes species are serious pests of wooden structures and important quarantine insects in the world. It is very difficult to distinguish different Reticulitermes species based on their similar morphology, which brings much trouble to quarantine work for invasive Reticulitermes species. Here, we used the four molecular markers, 18 S rDNA, COI, COII and ITS genes, to carry out phylogenetic analysis and identification of the six Reticulitermes species. We found that R. labralis, R. speratus, R. aculabialis, R. chinensis and R.flaviceps from China clustered together in the phylogenetic tree of COI gene, consisting with geographical distribution of them. We suggest that COI gene is suitable for interspecific phylogenetic analysis of Reticulitermes species. Subsequently, we designed and synthesized specific primer and TaqMan probe based on the COI gene of R. chinensis, and found that this primer can specifically detect R. chinensis. The minimum concentration of DNA sample is lpg/μL for the identification of R. chinensis. 18Single-atom Zn for boosting supercapacitor performance显示文摘Single-atom metal-incorporated carbon nanomaterials(CMs)have shown great potential towards broad catalytic applications.In this work,we show that N-doped porous CMs embedded with redox-able Zn atoms exhibit superior capacitive performance.High Zn(~2.72 at.%)/N(~12.51 at.%)doping were realized by incorporating Zn2+and benzamide into the condensation and carbonization of formamide and subsequent annealing at 900℃.The Zn and N species are mutually benefited during the formation of ZnN4 motif.The as-obtained Zn1NC material affords a very large capacitance of 621 F·g^(−1)(at 0.1 A·g^(−1)),superior rate capability(~65%retention at 100 A·g^(−1)),and excellent cycling stability(0.00044%per cycle at 10 A·g^(−1)).These merits are attributed to the high Zn/N loading,atomic Zn-boosted pseudocapacitive behavior,large specific surface area(~1,085 m^(2)·g^(−1)),and rich pore hierarchy,thus ensuring both large pseudo-capacitance(e.g.,~37.9%at 10 mV·s^(−1))and double-layer capacitance.Besides of establishing a new type of high Zn/N-loading carbon materials,our work uncovers the capacitive roles of atomically dispersed metals in CMs.Zongge Li Danni Wang Huifang Li Mang Ma Ying Zhang Zifeng Yan Stefano Agnoli Guoxin Zhang Xiaoming Sun 2022Nano Research2022,15,3:0
