| 3 | Hydrodynamics and suspended particulate matter retention in macrotidal estuaries located in Amazonia-semiarid interface(Northeastern-Brazil)显示文摘The aim of the current study was to determine the nature of the seasonal variability of the Suspended Particulate Matter(SPM)fluxes from the drainage basin to the estuary in a macrotidal region(Northeastern Brazil),and the estuarine response to a seawater intrusion regarding sediment deposition,which will support the understanding of the global transport of materials at the continent-ocean interface.Thermohaline structure data was acquired using a Conductivity,Temperature,and Depth(CTD)probe with a sampling frequency of 4 Hz.Suspended particulate material was measured by gravimetric measurements applied to exact filtered volume samples.The outflows were measured through the use of an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler(ADCP)with frequency of 1.5 MHz.The horizontal thermal and saline gradients varied from warmer and less saline waters(2014)to cooler and saline waters(2015).The gradient behavior when linked to volume transport and SPM flows,suggests a minimization of the fluvial flows in 2015,easing the advance of coastal water(CW)towards the inner estuary,leading to an inversion of the baroclinic pressure gradient.The bottom saline front,generated by the entrance of coastal water masses,caused an increase in SPM concentrations due to increased fluid density,resuspension of previously deposited sediment,and erosion of banks.High concentrations of SPM indicate higher volume transport suggesting a hydraulic barrier due to the change/inversion of the baroclinic pressure gradient,resulting in water and material retention.Material deposition was observed during neap tide,while during spring tide the material is resuspended,increasing the concentration,generating cycles of deposition and erosion during the neap-spring tides.The sediment in suspension that reach the estuary,even with low fluvial volume,stay in this environment forming new islands because of deposition.High deposition rates or sediment cycling,if generated by the hydraulic barrier,may indicate that the flows of SPM from the continental drainage to the estuary and adjacent continental shelf are interrupted and the residence time is increased. | Vinicius Henrique Maciel dos Santos Francisco Jose da Silva Dias Aud alio Rebelo Torres Romulo Araújo Soares Laís Costa Terto Antonio Carlos Leal de Castro Ricardo Luvizotto Santos Marco Valerio Jansen Cutrim | 2020 | International Journal of Sediment Research2020,35,4: | 0 |
| 4 | Ferric carboxymaltose for anemia in Crohn’s disease patients at a tertiary center:A retrospective observational cohort study显示文摘BACKGROUND Although the gastrointestinal tract is the most affected by Crohn’s disease(CD),the condition triggers other consequent manifestations,and iron deficiency anemia(IDA)is one of the most common.Intravenous(IV)iron replacement is currently available through several drugs,such as ferric hydroxide sucrose and ferric carboxymaltose(FCM).However,the clinical management of these conditions can be challenging.AIM To elucidate the drug’s effectiveness,the present study analyzed,through medical records,the clinical and epidemiological data of a cohort of patients with active CD who received IV FCM for the IDA treatment.METHODS This retrospective observational study included 25 patients with active CD,severe anemia,and refractory to previous conventional treatments.Patients were evaluated two times:During the last treatment with ferric hydroxide sucrose and treatment with FCM.RESULTS After treatment with FCM,parameters of IDA assessment significantly improved,serum hemoglobin(Hb)levels increased in 93%of patients(P<0.0001),and in 44%,there was an increase of≥2 g/dL in a single application.In addition,86%of the patients showed an increase in serum iron(P<0.0001)and ferritin(P=0.0008)and 50%in transferrin saturation(P=0.01).The serum iron levels at baseline showed a negative association with the ileal and colonic CD and use of biologics and a positive association with patients who developed CD later in life after the age of 40(A3)and with a stenosing(B2)and fistulizing(B3)phenotype.The values of Hb and hematocrit after ferric hydroxide sucrose treatment remained similar to those found before treatment.CONCLUSION This study demonstrated that FCM is an important therapeutic strategy for treating IDA in CD patients,achieving satisfactory results in refractory cases. | Natália Souza Nunes Siqueira Livia Bitencourt Pascoal Bruno Lima Rodrigues Marina Moreira de Castro Alan Sidnei Corrêa Martins Dante Orsetti Silva Araújo Luis Eduardo Miani Gomes Michel Gardere Camargo Maria de Lourdes Setsuko Ayrizono Raquel Franco Leal | 2023 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2023,11,12: | 0 |
| 5 | Chemical and Mechanical Characterization of Ternary Cement Pastes Containing Calcined Clay and Nanosilica显示文摘Research regarding new SCMs(supplementary cementitious materials)is in constant progress,aiming to improve cement properties,reduce its operational costs and make it more sustainable.One such material is calcined clay,which reduces CO2 emissions and overall cost when blended with cement.Nanosilica is also an SCM,highly reactive.While the benefits of both are well established,their combined effect in a ternary mixture with cement still demands more research.Therefore,the present work evaluates that mixture,aiming to contribute to the cement industry and environmental sustainability.Four cement pastes were studied:OPC(100%Portland cement),2NS(2%substitution by nanosilica),25CC(25%replacement by calcined clay produced in the laboratory)and 23CC2NS(replacement by 2%of nanosilica and 23%calcined clay).w/b(water/binder)ratio was fixed in 0.35 and superplasticizer admixtures were used to keep the same workability.fc(compressive strength),XRD(X-ray diffraction)and TGA(thermogravimetric analysis)were performed in the pastes.Results show that the calcination process of the raw clays was efficient,with conversion of kaolinite and that both binary and ternary pastes showed fc equal to or higher than the reference,demonstrating the viability of the calcined clay for clinker substitution at high contents. | Divino Gabriel Lima Pinheiro Matheus Ian de Castro Sousa João Henrique da Silva Rêgo | 2021 | Journal of Civil Engineering and Architecture2021,15,7: | 0 |
