| 1 | Discovery of the superlarge gallium ore deposit in Jungar,Inner Mongolia,North China显示文摘Mineralogy and geochemistry of No.6 Coal from the Heidaigou Mine of the Jungar Coalfield of North China were studied using instrumental neu- tron activation analysis,inductively coupled-plasma mass spectroscopy,X-ray fluorescence spectrometry,and scanning electron microscope equipped with an energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer. The results show that gallium concentration is as high as 44.8 μg·g?1 in the whole coal-channel sample,and varies from 30.1 μg·g?1 to 76.0 μg·g?1 (mean 51.9 μg·g?1) in the main minable benches of No.6 Coal. Such high concentration of Ga in the coal is far higher than the industrial grade (30 μg·g?1). The thickness of the main minable benches accounts for 81.9% of the whole coal bed. The laboratory high-temperature ashes (550℃) of the main minable coal benches also contain a high concentration of Ga,varying from 62.2 μg·g?1 to 178 μg·g?1,with an average of 89.2 μg·g?1. The boehmite significantly enriched in No.6 Coal is the main carrier of the high Ga in the coal. Average concentration of Ga in boehmite is 0.09%. The av- erage content of boehmite is 6.1% in the whole coal and 7.5% in the main minable benches. Boehmite is derived from the bauxite in the weathered crust of the underlying Benxi Formation in the north of the basin during the peat accumulation. The colloidal idrargillite had been shortly transported from the weathered crust to the peat mire,and owing to the compaction of the overlying strata during the peat accumulation and early diagenesis,the idrargillite colloid had begun to be dehydrated,leading to boehmite formation. A pre- liminary estimation showed that the ensured and prospected reserves of Ga in No.6 Coal are up to 6.3 ×104t and 8.57×105t,indicating a superlarge galliumore deposit. The particular paleogeography of the Jungar Coalfield and the peculiar carrier of Ga in coal suggest that this Ga ore deposit is unique in the world. Rare earth elements are also enriched in coal and laboratory ashes. The weighted average concentra- tion of the total rare earth elements is 255 μg·g?1 and 830.36 μg·g?1 in the main minable benches and their laboratory ashes,respectively. | 2 | Phosphate removal and recovery through crystallization of hydroxyapatite using xonotlite as seed crystal显示文摘Xonotlite was synthesized and tested for phosphate removal and recovery from synthetic solution in a batch mode. The effects of pH, initial calcium concentration, bicarbonate concentration on phosphate removal through crystallization were examined. The morphology and X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of xonotlite before and after crystallization confirmed the formation of crystalline hydroxyapatite. The results indicated that the crystallization product had a very high P content (> 10%), which is comparable to phosphate rock at the dosage of 50-200 mg xonotlite per liter, with a maximum P content of 16.7%. The kinetics of phosphate removal followed the second-order reaction equation. The phosphate removal ability increased with increasing pH. The precipitation of calcium phosphate took place when pH was higher than 7.2, whereas the crystallization occurred at pH 6.0. A high calcium concentration could promote the removal of phosphate via crystallization, while a high bicarbonate concentration also enhanced phosphate removal, through that the pH was increased and thus induced the precipitation process. When xonotlite was used to remove phosphate from wastewater, the removal effciency could reach 91.3% after 24 h reaction, with removal capacity 137 mg/g. | 5 | Coal facies evolution of the main minable coal-bed in the Heidaigou Mine, Jungar Coalfield, Inner Mongolia, northern China显示文摘The No. 6 Coal-bed from the Heidaigou Mine, Jungar Coalfield, Inner Mongolia is a super-large Ga deposit. The dominant carrier of Ga is boehmite in coal. The study of coal facies may provide genetic enrichment information of Ga and its carrier (boehmite) in the Ga deposit. On the basis of study on coal petrology and mineralogy, it was found that the No. 6 Coal-bed from the Heidaigou Mine of Jungar was enriched in inertinites and the microlitho-types were dominated by clarodurite. The maceral morphological features and association indicate that the coal-bed was formed in a dry sedimentary environment or in a periodic dry sedimentary environment caused by the alternating variations of groundwater level. | 8 | Chemicohydrographic characteristics of the Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass显示文摘Based on the field data obtained during summer cruises in 2006, the overall perspective of chemical and hydrographic characteristics of the Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass(YSCWM) are discussed through the crossYSCWM transect profiles and horizontal distributions of hydrological and chemical variables, with emphasis on the differences between the northern Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass(NYSCWM) and the southern Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass(SYSCWM). The results show that YSCWM is characterized by low temperature(<10°C) and dissolved oxygen(DO) concentration, high salinity(>32.0) and nutrient concentrations. Compared to the SYSCWM, the NYSCWM possesses lower values of temperature, salinity and nutrient concentrations but higher values of DO.Also its smaller variation ranges of variables(except for temperature) demonstrate that NYSCWM is more uniform than that of SYSCWM. | 9 | A Study on the Xenia Effect in Castanea henryi显示文摘The xenia effect results in pollen affecting the setting rate and the appearance and quality of fruits. To further understand this phenomenon,we investigated the xenia effect in Castanea henryi using the cultivars ‘Huali 1', ‘Huali 2', ‘Huali 3', and ‘Huangzhen' as materials. Twenty combinations of self-, cross-, and natural pollination were undertaken in a chestnut orchard in Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, China. Significant differences were observed among the pollination combinations in terms of the time of fruit ripening, rate of fruit setting, size of the barbed shell and nut, and content of soluble sugars, fats, proteins, amylose, and vitamin C. No significant differences were observed with regard to nut rate,content of total starch, and moisture content. The fruit quality of the 20 pollination combinations was evaluated using a subordinate function method,and showed that Huali 2 × Huali 3 was the best combination, and Huangzhen × Huangzhen was the most ineffective combination. | 10 | Ultrasonic elastic characteristics of five kinds of metamorphic deformed coals under room temperature and pressure conditions显示文摘The calibration of the elastic characteristics of deformed coals is essential for seismic inversion of such units, because the prediction of coal deformation is essential for both mining safety and methane production. Therefore, many samples of broken and mylonitic deformed coal were tested with ultrasonic waves in the laboratory. These samples came from four mining areas: the Huainan, Pingdingshan, Hebi and Jiaozuo coal mines, which present five different metamorphic ranks shown as cylinders striking across circular limits of steel. Under normal pressures and temperatures, ultrasonic P- and S-wave tests show that the velocities, quality factors, and elastic moduli of the deformed coals were greatly reduced compared with undeformed coals. Also, some correlation was found between the P- and S-wave velocities in the deformed coals. However, there is no evidence of linear correlations between velocity and density, velocity and quality factor, or the quality factors of P- and S-waves. Compared with the elastic characteristics of undeformed coals, such as P- and S-wave velocity ratios or Poisson's ratio, those of deformed coals generally decrease and the P-wave quality factors are less than those of S-waves. Moreover, the analysis of the relationship between pore structure and elastic modulus shows a better correlation between the P- and S-wave velocities and effective porosity, pore volume and specific surface area. Also, there are similar relationships between the pore structure and the Young's and shear moduli. However, there are no such correlations with other moduli. Correlations between these elastic moduli, pore structure, coal rank and density were not found for the various samples of deformed coals, which is consistent with only structural destruction occurring in the deformed coals with other physical properties remaining unchanged. | 12 | Modes of occurrence of arsenic in high-arsenic coal by extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy显示文摘The concentration ranges of As and Sb in six Late Permian high-arsenic coals collected from Xingren and Xingyi, Guizhou Province are 94.1 μg·g -1-3 2 and 8 1 μg·g -1-120 μg·g -1, respectively. Based on the mineralogical analysis, no arsenic and arsenic-bearing minerals are detected in these samples and arsenic occurs in coal macerals. By extended X-ray absorption fine structure(EXAFS) spectroscopy, we have found that arsenic in these high-arsenic coal samples coordinates with oxygen; the coordination number of As with oxygen for these samples is 4 except one sample(H-9) for which the coordination number of As is 3. | 15 | A new sorbent that simultaneously sequesters multiple classes ofpollutants from water: Surfactant modified zeolite显示文摘A zeolite (ZFA) was synthesized from coal fly ash and then modified using hexadecyltrimethylammonium. The surfactant modified ZFA (SMZFA) was evaluated for its versatility to sequester multiple classes of pollutants from water. The target pollutants include ionic inorganic pollutants (ammonium and phosphate), ionic organic pollutants (methylene blue and humic acid), ionizable organic pollutants (bisphenol A,-chlorophenol and phenol, with different pKa), and electrically neutral or-ganic pollutants (aniline, nitrobenzene, and naphthalene, with different hydrophobicity). The SMZFA showed high potential for the retention of ammonium and phosphate, being comparable with ZFA. While the negative charge in the internal pores of zeolite was responsible for the retention of ammonium, the oxides of CaO, Al2O3and Fe2O3in the non-zeolite fraction, which originated from coal fly ash but received modification during zeolite synthesis, accounted for the removal of phosphate. Results also showed that while ZFA had little affinity for humic acid, the ionizable, and the electrically neutral organic compounds, SMZFA exhibited greatly enhanced adsorption capacity. Thus, the surfactant modified external surface, which formed a bilayer micelle of zeolite, imparts a hydrophobic characteristic that enables the uptake of the organic pollutants. | 17 | A fractal and scale-free model of complex networks with hub attraction behaviors显示文摘It is widely believed that fractality of complex networks originate from hub repulsion behaviors(anticorrelation or disassortativity), which means that large degree nodes tend to connect with small degree nodes.This hypothesis was demonstrated by a dynamical growth model, which evolves as the inverse renormalization procedure, proposed by Song et al. Now we find that the dynamical growth model is based on the assumption that all the cross-box links have the same probability e to link to the most connected nodes inside each box.Therefore, we modify the growth model by adopting the flexible probability e, which makes hubs to have higher probability to connect with hubs than non-hubs. With this model, we find that some fractal and scale-free networks have hub attraction behaviors(correlation or assortativity). The results are the counter-examples of former beliefs. In addition, the typical parameters, XAL, Yox and ZAR, for indicating the hydrocarbon-generating potential of mineral-bituminous and other organic matter in source rocks are put forward to reflect the aliphatic, oxygenous, and aromatic structures.
