1Ten years of hip fractures in Italy: For the first time a decreasing trend in elderly women显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the hospitalization rate of femoralneck fractures in the elderly Italian population over ten years.METHODS:We analyzed national hospitalizations records collected at central level by the Ministry of Health from 2000 to 2009.Age-and sex-specific rates of fractures occurred at femoral neck in people≥65 years old.We performed a sub-analysis over a three-year period(2007-2009),presenting data per five-year age groups,in order to evaluate the incidence of the hip fracture in the oldest population.RESULTS:We estimated a total of 839008 hospitalizations due to femoral neck fractures between 2000 and2009 in people≥65,with an overall increase of 29.8%over 10 years.The incidence per 10000 inhabitants remarkably increased in people≥75,passing from158.5 to 166.8(+5.2%)and from 72.6 to 77.5(+6.8%)over the ten-year period in women and men,respectively.The oldest age group(people>85 years old)accounted for more than 42%of total hospital admissions in 2009(n=39000),despite representing only 2.5%of the Italian population.Particularly,women aged>85accounted for 30.8%of total fractures,although they represented just 1.8%of the general population.The results of this analysis indicate that the incidence of hip fractures progressively increased from 2000 to 2009,but a reduction can be observed for the first time in women≤75(-7.9%between 2004 and 2009).CONCLUSION:Incidence of hip fractures in Italy are continuously increasing,although women aged 65-74years old started showing a decreasing trend.Prisco Piscitelli Maurizio Feola Cecilia Rao Monica Celi Elena Gasbarra Cosimo Neglia Giuseppe Quarta Federico Maria Liuni Simone Parri Giovanni Iolascon Maria Luisa Brandi Alessandro Distante Umberto Tarantino 2014World Journal of Orthopedics2014,5,3:2
2Neonatal Fc receptor-targeted lignin-encapsulated porous silicon nanoparticles for enhanced cellular interactions and insulin permeation across the intestinal epithelium显示文摘Oral insulin delivery could change the life of millions of diabetic patients as an effective,safe,easy-to-use,and affordable alternative to insulin injections,known by an inherently thwarted patient compliance.Here,we designed a multistage nanoparticle(NP)system capable of circumventing the biological barriers that lead to poor drug absorption and bioavailability after oral administration.The nanosystem consists of an insulin-loaded porous silicon NP encapsulated into a pH-responsive lignin matrix,and surface-functionalized with the Fc fragment of immunoglobulin G,which acts as a targeting ligand for the neonatal Fc receptor(FcRn).The developed NPs presented small size(211±1 nm)and narrow size distribution.The NPs remained intact in stomach and intestinal pH conditions,releasing the drug exclusively at pH 7.4,which mimics blood circulation.This formulation showed to be highly cytocompatible,and surface plasmon resonance studies demonstrated that FcRn-targeted NPs present higher capacity to interact and being internalized by the Caco-2 cells,which express FcRn,as demonstrated by Western blot.Ultimately,in vitro permeability studies showed that Fc-functionalized NPs induced an increase in the amount of insulin that permeated across a Caco-2/HT29-MTX co-culture model,showing apparent permeability coefficients(Papp)of 2.37×106 cm/s,over the 1.66×106 cm/s observed for their non-functionalized counterparts.Overall,these results demonstrate the potential of these NPs for oral delivery of anti-diabetic drugs.Joao P.Martins Patrícia Figueiredo Shiqi Wang Erika Espo Elena Celi Beatriz Martins Marianna Kemell Karina Moslova Ermei Makil Jarno Salonen Mauri A.Kostiainen Christian Celia Vincenzo Cerullo Tapani Viitala Bruno Sarmento Jouni Hirvonen Helder A.Santos 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,3:0
