1Characterization of mitochondrial genome of sea cucumber Stichopus horrens:A novel gene arrangement in Holothuroidea显示文摘The complete mitochondrial DNA sequence contains useful information for phylogenetic analyses of metazoa.In this study,the complete mitochondrial DNA sequence of sea cucumber Stichopus horrens (Holothuroidea:Stichopodidae:Stichopus) is presented.The complete sequence was determined using normal and long PCRs.The mitochondrial genome of Stichopus horrens is a circular molecule 16257 bps long,composed of 13 protein-coding genes,two ribosomal RNA genes and 22 transfer RNA genes.Most of these genes are coded on the heavy strand except for one protein-coding gene (nad6) and five tRNA genes (tRNA Ser(UCN),tRNA Gln,tRNA Ala,tRNA Val,tRNA Asp) which are coded on the light strand.The composition of the heavy strand is 30.8% A,23.7% C,16.2% G,and 29.3% T bases (AT skew=0.025;GC skew= 0.188).A non-coding region of 675 bp was identified as a putative control region because of its location and AT richness.The intergenic spacers range from 1 to 50 bp in size,totaling 227 bp.A total of 25 overlapping nucleotides,ranging from 1 to 10 bp in size,exist among 11 genes.All 13 protein-coding genes are initiated with an ATG.The TAA codon is used as the stop codon in all the protein coding genes except nad3 and nad4 that use TAG as their termination codon.The most frequently used amino acids are Leu (16.29%),Ser (10.34%) and Phe (8.37%).All of the tRNA genes have the potential to fold into typical cloverleaf secondary structures.We also compared the order of the genes in the mitochondrial DNA from the five holothurians that are now available and found a novel gene arrangement in the mitochondrial DNA of Stichopus horrens.FAN SiGang HU ChaoQun WEN Jing ZHANG LvPing 2011Science China(Life Sciences)2011,54,5:4

7Probing cell membrane integrity using a histone-targeting protein nanocage displaying precisely positioned fluorophores显示文摘Cell membrane integrity is fundamental to the normal activities of cells and is involved in both acute and chronic pathologies.Here,we report a probe for analyzing cell membrane integrity developed from a 9 nm-sized protein nanocage named Dps via fluorophore conjugation with high spatial precision to avoid self-quenching.The probe cannot enter normal live cells but can accumulate in dead or live cells with damaged membranes,which,interestingly,leads to weak cytoplasmic and strong nuclear staining.This differential staining is found attributed to the high affinity of Dps for histones rather than DNA,providing a staining mechanism different from those of known membrane exclusion probes(MEPs).Moreover,the Dps nanoprobe is larger in size and thus applies a more stringent criterion for identifying severe membrane damage than currently available MEPs.This study shows the potential of Dps as a new bioimaging platform for biological and medical analyses.Ti Fang Chaoqun Li Ao Liang Hui Zhang Fan Zhang Xian-En Zhang Yi-Yu Yang Feng Li 2023Nano Research2023,16,1:0
8Enhanced tensile ductility of tungsten microwires via high-density dislocations and reduced grain boundaries显示文摘Despite being strong with many outstanding physical properties,tungsten is inherently brittle at room temperature,restricting its structural and functional applications at small scales.Here,a facile strategy has been adopted,to introduce high-density dislocations while reducing grain boundaries,through electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD)-guided microfabrication of cold-drawn bulk tungsten wires.The designed tungsten microwire attains an ultralarge uniform tensile elongation of~10.6%,while retains a high yield strength of~2.4 GPa.in situ TEM tensile testing reveals that the large uniform elongation of tungsten microwires originates from the motion of pre-existing high-density dislocations,while the subsequent ductile fracture is attributed to crack-tip plasticity and the inhibition of grain boundary cracking.This work demonstrates the application potential of tungsten microcomponents with superior ductility and workability for micro/nanoscale mechanical,electronic,and energy systems.Chaoqun Dang Weitong Lin Fanling Meng Hongti Zhang Sufeng Fan Xiaocui Li Ke Cao Haokun Yang Wenzhao Zhou Zhengjie Fan Ji-jung Kai Yang Lu 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,36:0
9High elasticity of CsPbBr_(3) perovskite nanowires for flexible electronics显示文摘Due to the enhanced ambient structural stability and excellent optoelectronic properties, all-inorganic metal halide perovskite nanowires have become one of the most attractive candidates for flexible electronics, photovoltaics and optoelectronics. Their elastic property and mechanical robustness become the key factors for device applications under realistic service conditions with various mechanical loadings. Here, we demonstrate that high tensile elastic strain (∼ 4% to ∼ 5.1%) can be achieved in vapor-liquid-solid-grown single-crystalline CsPbBr_(3) nanowires through in situ scanning electron microscope (SEM) buckling experiments. Such high flexural elasticity can be attributed to the structural defect-scarce, smooth surface, single-crystallinity and nanomechanical size effect of CsPbBr_(3) nanowires. The mechanical reliability of CsPbBr_(3) nanowire-based flexible photodetectors was examined by cyclic bending tests, with no noticeable performance deterioration observed after 5,000 cycles. 10The relationship between sarcopenia,multidimensional frailty,and malnutrition cluster and long-term mortality in hospitalized patients with cirrhosis显示文摘Aim:Sarcopenia,multidimensional frailty,and malnutrition represent common debilitating conditions in the context of cirrhosis,linked to a variety of dismal outcomes.We aimed to clarify their overlap and cumulative impact on long-term mortality in hospitalized patients with cirrhosis.Methods:Consecutive patients with cirrhosis were prospectively recruited from January 2018 to December 2020.The diagnosis of sarcopenia,multidimensional frailty,and malnutrition was standardized according to the consensus definition and our well-documented criteria.The prevalence of the respective debilitating condition and the concurrence of this comorbidity were calculated.Results:In total,253 patients with cirrhosis aged 64 years with a female predominance(52.4%)were recruited.Sarcopenia was present in 20.9%(53/253),multidimensional frailty in 12.6%(32/253),and malnutrition in 44.7%(113/253)of the entire cohort.Approximately half of the patients had at least one debilitating condition(127/253).Sarcopenia and malnutrition co-existed in 33 nonfrail patients(13.0%)and multidimensional frailty and malnutrition in eight nonsarcopenic patients(3.2%).Fifteen(5.9%)subjects had all three debilitating conditions,namely malnutrition,sarcopenia,and frailty(MSF)group.The proportions of males,infections,and ascites were significantly higher in the MSF group.Patients in the MSF group had the highest levels of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and creatinine.The 2-year mortality rates in patients with three debilitating conditions,two conditions,one condition,and no conditions were 60.0%,23.8%,21.4%,and 13.5%,respectively.Multivariate Cox regression indicated the long-term mortality risk was approximately four-fold higher among patients in the MSF group compared to those with no conditions.Conclusions:A fraction of patients with cirrhosis exhibited comorbidities of sarcopenia,multidimensional frailty,and malnutrition,linked to a higher risk of long-term mortality.Gaoyue Guo Han Wang Wanting Yang Chaoqun Li Xingliang Zhao Xiaofei Fan Yangyang Hui Binxin Cui Xiaoyu Wang Xuqian Zhang Kui Jiang Chao Sun 2023Portal Hypertension & Cirrhosis2023,2,2:0
11Hollow ZIF-67-derived Co@N-doped carbon nanotubes boosting the hydrogenation of phenolic compounds to alcohols显示文摘The selective hydrogenation of highly toxic phenolic compounds to generate alcohols with thermal stability,environmental friendliness,and non-toxicity is of great importance.Herein,a series of Co-based catalysts,named Co@NCNTs,were designed and constructed by direct pyrolysis of hollow ZIF-67(HZIF-67)under H_(2)/Ar atmosphere.The evolution of the catalyst surface from the shell layer assembled by ZIF-67-derived particles to the in situ-grown hollow nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes(NCNTs)with certain length and density is achieved by adjusting the pyrolysis atmosphere and temperature.Due to the synergistic effects of in situ-formed hollow NCNTs,well-dispersed Co nanoparticles,and intact carbon matrix,the as-prepared Co@NCNTs-0.10-450 catalyst exhibits superior catalytic performance in the hydrogenation of phenolic compounds to alcohols.The turnover frequency value of Co@NCNTs-0.10-450is 3.52 h^(-1),5.9 times higher than that of Co@NCNTs-0.40-450 and 4.5 times higher than that of Co@NCNTs-0.10-550,exceeding most previously reported non-noble metal catalysts.Our findings provide new insights into the development of non-precious metal,efficient,and cost-effective metal-organic framework-derived catalysts for the hydrogenation of phenolic compounds to alcohols.Zhihao Guo Jiuxuan Zhang Lanlan Chen Chaoqun Fan Hong Jiang Rizhi Chen 2024Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2024,66,2:0
12Dissecting the Contributing Role of Divergent Adipose Tissue to Multidimensional Frailty in Cirrhosis显示文摘Background and Aims:Emerging evidence has demonstrated that abnormal body composition may potentiate the development of frailty,whereas little work focuses on the role of divergent adipose tissue.Therefore,we aimed to determine the potential contribution of adipose tissue distribution to multidimensional frailty in decompensated cirrhosis.Methods:We conducted a retrospective cohort study.Divergent adipose tissues were assessed by computed tomography-derived subcutaneous adipose tissue index(SATI),visceral adipose tissue index(VATI)and total adipose tissue index(TATI),respectively.Frailty was identified by our validated self-reported Frailty Index.Multiple binary logistic models incorporating different covariates were established to assess the relationship between adipose tissue distribution and frailty.Results:The study cohort comprised 245 cirrhotic patients with 45.3%being male.The median Frailty Index,body mass index(BMI)and model for end-stage liver disease(MELD)score were 0.11,24.3 kg/m2 and 8.9 points,respectively.In both men and women,patients who were frail exhibited lower levels of SATI in comparison with nonfrail patients.SATI inversely correlated with Frailty Index in the entire cohort(rs=−0.1361,p=0.0332).Furthermore,SATI or TATI was independently associated with frail phenotype in several multiple logistic regression models adjusting for age,BMI,presence of ascites,sodium,Child-Pugh class or MELD score in isolation.Conclusions:In the context of decompensated cirrhosis,low SATI and concomitant TATI were associated with higher risk of being frail.These findings highlight the importance to further apply tissue-specific tools of body composition in place of crude metric like BMI.Lihong Mao Chaoqun Li Xiaoyu Wang Mingyu Sun Yifan Li Zihan Yu Binxin Cui Gaoyue Guo Wanting Yang Yangyang Hui Xiaofei Fan Jie Zhang Kui Jiang Chao Sun 2023Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2023,11,1:0
