| 2 | Vehicular volatile organic compounds losses due to refueling and diurnal process in China: 2010–2050显示文摘Volatile organic compounds(VOCs) are crucial to control air pollution in major Chinese cities since VOCs are the dominant factor influencing ambient ozone level, and also an important precursor of secondary organic aerosols. Vehicular evaporative emissions have become a major and growing source of VOC emissions in China. This study consists of lab tests, technology evaluation, emissions modeling, policy projections and cost-benefit analysis to draw a roadmap for China for controlling vehicular evaporative emissions. The analysis suggests that evaporative VOC emissions from China's light-duty gasoline vehicles were approximately 185,000 ton in 2010 and would peak at 1,200,000 ton in 2040 without control. The current control strategy implemented in China, as shown in business as usual(BAU) scenario, will barely reduce the long-term growth in emissions. Even if Stage II gasoline station vapor control policies were extended national wide(BAU + extended Stage II), there would still be over 400,000 ton fuel loss in 2050. In contrast, the implementation of on-board refueling vapor recovery(ORVR) on new cars could reduce 97.5% of evaporative VOCs by 2050(BAU + ORVR/BAU + delayed ORVR). According to the results, a combined Stage II and ORVR program is a comprehensive solution that provides both short-term and long-term benefits. | 3 | High levels of serum interleukin-6 increase mortality of hepatitis B virus-associated acute-on-chronic liver failure显示文摘BACKGROUND Patients with hepatitis B virus-associated acute-on-chronic liver failure(HBVACLF)present a complex and poor prognosis.Systemic inflammation plays an important role in its pathogenesis,and interleukin-6(IL-6)as a pro-inflammatory cytokine is related with severe liver impairment and also plays a role in promoting liver regeneration.Whether serum IL-6 influences HBV-ACLF prognosis has not been studied.AIM To determine the impact of serum IL-6 on outcome of patients with HBV-ACLF.METHODS We performed a retrospective study of 412 HBV-ACLF patients.The findings were analyzed with regard to mortality and the serum IL-6 level at baseline,as well as dynamic changes of serum IL-6 within 4 wk.RESULTS The serum IL-6 level was associated with mortality.Within 4 wk,deceased patients had significantly higher levels of IL-6 at baseline than surviving patients[17.9(7.3-57.6)vs 10.4(4.7-22.3),P=0.011].Patients with high IL-6 levels(>11.8 pg/mL)had a higher mortality within 4 wk than those with low IL-6 levels(≤11.8 pg/mL)(24.2%vs 13.2%,P=0.004).The odds ratios calculated using univariate and multivariate logistic regression were 2.10(95%confidence interval[CI]:1.26-3.51,P=0.005)and 2.11(95%CI:1.15-3.90,P=0.017),respectively.The mortality between weeks 5 and 8 in patients with high IL-6 levels at 4 wk was 15.0%,which was significantly higher than the 6.6%mortality rate in patients with low IL-6 levels at 4 wk(hazard ratio=2.39,95%CI:1.05-5.41,P=0.037).The mortality was 5.0%in patients with high IL-6 levels at baseline and low IL-6 levels at 4 wk,7.5%in patients with low IL-6 levels both at baseline and at 4 wk,11.5%in patients with low IL-6 levels at baseline and high IL-6 levels at 4 wk,and 16.7%in patients with high IL-6 levels both at baseline and at 4 wk.The increasing trend of the mortality rate with the dynamic changes of IL-6 was significant(P for trend=0.023).CONCLUSION A high level of serum IL-6 is an independent risk factor for mortality in patients with HBV-ACLF.Furthermore,a sustained high level or dynamic elevated level of serum IL-6 indicates a higher mortality. | Chao Zhou Ning Zhang Ting-Ting He Yao Wang Li-Fu Wang Yong-Qiang Sun Jing Jing Jing-Jing Zhang Shuang-Nan Fu Xuan Wang Xiao-Xiao Liang Xin Li Man Gong Jun Li | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,30: | 15 |
| 4 | CFD Study of NO_x Emissions in a Model Commercial Aircraft Engine Combustor显示文摘Air worthiness requirements of the aircraft engine emission bring new challenges to the combustor research and design. With the motivation to design high performance and clean combustor, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is utilized as the powerful design approach. In this paper, Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations of reactive two-phase flow in an experimental low emission combustor is performed. The numerical approach uses an implicit compressible gas solver together with a Lagrangian liquid-phase tracking method and the extended coherent flamelet model for turbulence-combustion interaction. The NOx formation is modeled by the concept of post-processing, which resolves the NOx transport equation with the assumption of frozen temperature distribution. Both turbulence-combustion interaction model and NOx formation model are firstly evaluated by the comparison of experimental data published in open literature of a lean direct injection (LDI) combustor. The test rig studied in this paper is called low emission stirred swirl (LESS) combustor, which is a two-stage model combustor, fueled with liquid kerosene (RP-3) and designed by Beihang University (BUAA). The main stage of LESS combustor employs the principle of lean prevaporized and premixed (LPP) concept to reduce pollutant, and the pilot stage depends on a diffusion flame for flame stabili-zation. Detailed numerical results including species distribution, turbulence performance and burning performance are qualita-tively and quantitatively evaluated. Numerical prediction of NOx emission shows a good agreement with test data at both idle condition and full power condition of LESS combustor. Preliminary results of the flame structure are shown in this paper. Racial differences in the distribution of cerebrovascular occlusive disease are well documented.Extracranial stenosis is more common in Caucasians,while intracranial stenosis is more common in Asians,Hispanics and African-Americans. Concurrent atherosclerosis of extracranial and intracranial vessels is common in Asians. The incidence of concurrent stenoses ranges from 10% to 48% in patients with symptomatic cerebrovascular disease. The long-term prognosis of these patients is poor and they are at high risk of further vascular events or death. | 8 | Murine lung eosinophil activation and chemokine production in allergic airway inflammation显示文摘Eosinophils play important roles in asthma and lung infections.Murine models are widely used for assessing the functional significance and mechanistic basis for eosinophil involvements in these diseases.However,little is known about tissue eosinophils in homeostasis.In addition,little data on eosinophil chemokine production during allergic airway inflammation are available.In this study,the properties and functions of homeostatic and activated eosinophils were compared.Eosinophils from normal tissues expressed costimulation and adhesion molecules B7-1,B7-2 and ICAM-1 for Ag presentation but little major histocompatibility complex(MHC)class II,and were found to be poor stimulators of T-cell proliferation.However,these eosinophils expressed high levels of chemokine mRNA including C10,macrophage inflammatory protein(MIP)-1a,MIP-1c,MIP-2,eotaxin and monocyte chemoattractant protein-5(MCP-5),and produced chemokine proteins.Eosinophil intracellular chemokines decreased rapidly with concomitant surface marker downregulation upon in vitro culturing consistent with piecemeal degranulation.Lung eosinophils from mice with induced allergic airway inflammation exhibited increased chemokines mRNA expression and chemokines protein production and upregulated MHC class II and CD11c expression.They were also found to be the predominant producers of the CCR1 ligands CCL6/C10 and CCL9/MIP-1c in inflamed lungs.Eosinophil production of C10 and MIP-1c correlated with the marked influx of CD11bhigh lung dendritic cells during allergic airway inflammation and the high expression of CCR1 on these dendritic cells(DCs).The study provided baseline information on tissue eosinophils,documented the upregulation of activation markers and chemokine production in activated eosinophils,and indicated that eosinophils were a key chemokine-producing cell type in allergic lung inflammation. | C Edward Rose Jr Joanne A Lannigan Paul Kim James J Lee Shu Man Fu Sun-sang J Sung | 2010 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2010,7,5: | 6 |

| 10 | Value of ^(18)F-FDG PET-CT in surveillance of postoperative colorectal cancer patients with various carcinoembryonic antigen concentrations显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the value of positron emission tomography(PET)/computerized tomography(CT)in surveillance of colorectal cancer(CRC)patients with different carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA)concentrations.METHODS:One hundred and six postoperative CRC patients who had suspected recurrence or metastasis and received fluorodeoxyglucose(FDG)PET/CT within one week were included in this study.The final diagnosis was confirmed by histological examination or clinicalfollow-up over at least six months.RESULTS:The sensitivity,specificity,and accuracy of FDG PET/CT were 95.2%,82.6%,and 92.5%,and94.8%,81.4%and 92.8%,respectively,in the caseand lesion-based analyses.The sensitivity and accuracy of FDG PET/CT significantly differed from CT in both analyses(χ2=8.186,P=0.004;χ2=6.201,P=0.013;χ2=13.445,P=0.000;χ2=11.194,P=0.001).In the lesion-based analysis,the sensitivity,specificity,and accuracy of FDG PET/CT in the abnormal CEA group were97.8%,82.6%,and 95.6%,compared with 81.3%,80%,and 80.6%for patients with normal CEA levels.In case-based analysis,the sensitivity,specificity,and accuracy of FDG PET/CT were 97.2%,77.8%,and 95%in abnormal CEA group.Only in lesion-based analysis,the sensitivity and accuracy of FDG PET/CT in the abnormal CEA group were significantly superior to those in the normal CEA group(χ2=6.432,P=0.011;χ2=7.837,P=0.005).FDG PET/CT changed the management in 45.8%of patients with positive scans.CONCLUSION:FDG PET/CT showed superior diagnostic value and is an advisable option in surveillance of postoperative CRC patients with a vague diagnosis. | Yan Zhang Bin Feng Guo-Li Zhang Man Hu Zheng Fu Fen Zhao Xiao-Li Zhang Li Kong Jin-Ming Yu | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,21: | 5 |
| 11 | Selective separation of polychlorinated naphthalene (PCNs), hexabromocyclododecanes (HBCDs) and tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) in soil matrices显示文摘A method for the selective separation of polychlorinated naphthalene (PCNs), hexabromocyclododecanes (HBCDs) and tetrabro-mobisphenol A (TBBPA) in complex matrices was developed. In the present study, the type of sorbents and the volume and composition of eluting solvents were investigated in detail. Under the optimal conditions, the recoveries of PCNs, HBCDs and TBBPA in different fractions were determined with liquid/gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC or GC-MS/MS), which was nearly close to 100%. To investigate the feasibility of the developed method, it was applied to isolate target compounds from spiked soil extracts. PCNs, HBCDs and TBBPA could be subsequently eluted with hexane, hexane/dichloromethane (1:1), and hexane/dichloromethane (1:3), and the recoveries of the analysts from three fractions were satisfactory (70.9%-107%) with the exception of -HBCD at low levels. | 16 | Oblongifolin C suppresses lysosomal function independently of TFEB nuclear translocation显示文摘Lysosomes are the terminal organelles of the autophagic-endocytic pathway and play a key role in the degradation of autophagic contents. We previously reported that a natural compound oblongifolin C (OC) increased the number of autophagosomes and impaired the degradation of P62, most likely via suppression of lysosomal function and blockage of autophagosome-lysosome fusion. However, the precise mechanisms of how OC inhibits the lysosome-autophagy pathway remain unclear. In the present study, we investigated the effect of OC on transcription factor EB (TFEB), a master regulator of lysosomal biogenesis, lysosomal function and autophagy. We showed that treatment with OC (15 μM) markedly enhanced the nuclear translocation of TFEB in HeLa cells, concomitantly reduced the interaction of TFEB with 14-3-3 proteins. We further demonstrated that OC caused signi?cant inhibition of mTORC1 along with TFEB nuclear translocation, and OC-mediated TFEB nuclear translocation was dependent on mTORC1 suppression. Intriguingly, this increased nuclear TFEB was accompanied by reduced TFEB luciferase activity, increased lysosomal pH and impaired cathepsin enzyme activities. In HeLa cells, treatment with OC (7.5 μM) resulted in about 30% of cell death, whereas treatment with hydroxycitrate, a caloric restriction mimetic (20 μM) did not affect the cell viability. However, cotreatment with OC and hydroxycitrate caused signi?cantly great cytotoxicity (>50%). Nanoparticle characteristics, such as size, surface charge, and hydrophobicity, could be adjusted by controlling zinc sulfate concentration and environmental pH. In- creasing pH value or decreasing zinc sulfate concentration tended to reduce nanoparticle size and increase nanoparticle surface charge and hydrophobicity. OPZNPs presented good stability at near-neutral pH and could be stored for at least 20 days at 4℃. The results of the peptide conformation study and nanoparticle dissociation test proved that zinc ions and carboxyl groups are the key factors that affect OPZNP formation. The intermolecular combinations of carboxyl groups via zinc bridging facilitated the aggrega- tion of oyster peptides. Nanoparticle formation was accompanied by aggregate association and conformational changes. These changes included increments in β-sheets, especially intermolecular β-sheets, at the expense of α-helixes. | 19 | Tension and Drag Forces of Flexible Risers Undergoing Vortex-Induced Vibration显示文摘This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on the variation in the tension and the distribution of drag force coefficients along flexible risers under vortex-induced vibration(VIV) in a uniform flow for Reynolds numbers(Re) up to 2.2×10~5. The results show that the mean tension is proportional to the square of the incoming current speed, and the tension coefficient of a flexible riser undergoing VIV can be up to 12. The mean drag force is uniformly and symmetrically distributed along the axes of the risers undergoing VIV. The corresponding drag coefficient can vary between 1.6 and 2.4 but is not a constant value of 1.2, as it is for a fixed cylinder in the absence of VIV.
