1Therapeutic Efficacy of Neurostimulation for Depression:Techniques, Current Modalities, and Future Challenges显示文摘Depression is the most prevalent debilitating mental illness; it is characterized as a disorder of mood,cognitive function, and neurovegetative function. About one in ten individuals experience depression at some stage of their lives. Antidepressant drugs are used to reduce the symptoms but relapse occurs in *20% of patients. However,alternate therapies like brain stimulation techniques have shown promising results in this regard. 2Determination of Willingness to Pay for Improved Water Supply in Selected Areas of Lahore显示文摘Water scarcity is an alarming issue in the developing world.Due to population explosion,the supply of water to households is becoming difficult.And as the quality of water supply infrastructure is deteriorating,clean water is getting mixed with sewage and becoming a cause of waterborne diseases.This study was carried out in the city of Lahore,Pakistan,to find out the willingness to pay(WTP)for improved water supply by using Contingent Valuation Method(CVM).This study explores the relationship of WTP with socio-economic factors,i.e.income,accommodation and employment.Moreover,questionnaires were administered to randomly selected 200 respondents.For statistical analysis stepwise linear regression,Pearson correlation and chi square were employed to find out the variables that determine WTP for improved water supply quality.Results showed that income was the variable that most significantly impacted the WTP for improved water supply.The WTP amount was found to be 0.70 USD.People were not generally satisfied with the water supply quality.Unavailability of water for 1–2 h per day was commonly reported by the respondents.However,more studies should be conducted with a larger sample size to enhance our knowledge about water supply situation in Lahore.Sana AKHTAR Sarah DEAN Faiza ANJUM Maryam JAVED 2018Chinese Journal of Urban and Environmental Studies2018,6,2:0
3UV Spectroscopic Method for Optimization and Determination of Glibenclamide in Bulk,Pharmaceutical Dosage Form and its Application for In Vitro Interaction Studies显示文摘A simple,easy and cost-efficient UV spectroscopic method was developed and validated for glibenclamide,the second generation of sulfonylureas,using 0.1 N NaOH as a solvent.The proposed method is linear(R^(2)>0.999)with the range 5-25μg mL^(−1),accurate(99.60%),precise(inter and intraday variation 0.241 and 0.019%,respectively)and robust(<1%).The quantification and detection limit were 1.46 and 0.48μg mL^(−1),respectively.The validated method was applied for in vitro interaction studies of glibenclamide(GLB)with commonly prescribed quinolones(ciprofloxacin,levofloxacin,moxifloxacin,and gemifloxacin)and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs)(diclofenac sodium,ibuprofen,mefenamic acid,and aspirin)using UV spectrophotometer.The in vitro interaction studies were carried out in different artificially prepared physiological buffers at 37°C for 2 h.Results showed raised level of glibenclamide when interacted with gemifloxacin(pH 7.4),levofloxacin(pH 9),ciprofloxacin(pH 4.5)and with moxifloxacin(pH 4.5,7.4 and 9).Interaction with NSAIDs results in increased%availability of glibenclamide in the presence of diclofenac sodium,ibuprofen,and mefenamic acid at pH 4.5.The anticipated method can be successfully applied for the routine analysis and also for the interaction of glibenclamide with other drugs.Faiza Akhtar Somia Gul Salman Ashfaq Iqra Rehman Agha Zeeshan Mirza 2020Journal of Analysis and Testing2020,4,4:0
