| 1 | Particle size distribution and characteristics of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons during a heavy haze episode in Nanjing,China显示文摘A heavy haze episode caused by agricultural burning occurred in Nanjing from November 7 to November8,2009.PM_(10) samples were collected on normal and hazy days from November 1 to November 14,2009 at both city and suburban sites of Nanjing.Sixteen PAHs were measured during the day and at night.The results show that the concentrations of the particles were as high as 579.55 and 573.43 μg/m^3 during the haze episode at the city and suburban sites,respectively,3-4 times higher than those on a normal day.The proportions of fine particles during the haze episode were also higher than those on a normal day.The changes in the concentrations of PAHs were in accordance with the concentrations of the particles.Highmolecular-weight PAHs composed approximately 80% of the total PAHs on normal days and during the haze episode.The concentration of PAHs in fine fractions significantly increased during the haze episode,and this increase was most obvious at night at the city site.The proportion of total carcinogenic PAHs in fine particles was relatively high during the haze episode at both sampling sites,particularly at night at the city site. | Qingzi Meng Shuxian Fan Jiabao He Jian Zhang Yu Sun Yue Zhang Fan Zu | 2015 | Particuology2015,13,1: | 16 |
| 2 | Arsenite oxidation by three types of manganese oxides显示文摘Oxidation of As(Ⅲ) by three types of manganese oxides and the e ffects of pH, ion strength and tartaric acid on the oxi- dation were investiga ted by means of chemical analysis, equilibrium redox, X-ray diffraction(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). Three synthesized Mn oxide minerals, bir nessite, cryptomelane, and hausmannite, which widely occur in soil and sediments , could actively oxidize As(Ⅲ) to As(V). However, their ability in As(Ⅲ) -oxidation varied greatly depending on their structure, composition and surface properties. Tunnel structured cryptomelane exhibited the highest ability of As( Ⅲ) oxidation, fol- lowed by the layer structured birnessite and the lower oxid e hausmannite. The maximum amount of As(V) produced by the oxidation was in the order(mmol/kg) of cryptomelane(824.2) > birnessite(480.4) > hausmannite(117.9). As pH increased from the very low value(pH 2.5), the amount of As(Ⅲ) oxidized by the tested Mn oxides was firstly decreased, then negatively peaked in pH 3.0 —6.5, and eventually increased remarkably. Oxidation of As(Ⅲ) by the Mn oxides had a buffering effects on the pH variation in the solution. It is proposed th at the oxidative reaction processes between As(Ⅲ) and birnessite(or cryptomel ane) are as follows: (1) at lower pH condition: (MnO2)x + H3AsO3 + 0.5H+ 0 .5H2AsO4- + 0.5HAsO42- +Mn2++ (MnO2)x-1 + H2O; (2) at higher pH condition: (MnO2 )x + H3AsO3 0.5H2AsO4- + 0.5HAsO42- + 1.5H+ + (MnO2)x-1·MnO. With increa se of ion strength, the As(Ⅲ) oxidized by birnessite and cryptomelane decreased and was negatively correlated with ion strength. However, ion strength had litt le influence on As (Ⅲ) oxid- ation by the hausmannite. The presence of tart aric acid promoted oxidation of As(Ⅲ) by birnessite. As for cryptomelane and haus- mannite, the same effect was observed when the concentration of tartar ic acid was below 4 mmol/L, otherwise the oxidized As(Ⅲ) decreased. | 6 | Trends of Cirrhosis-related Mortality in the USA during the COVID-19 Pandemic显示文摘Immunocompromised status and interrupted routine care may render patients with cirrhosis vulnerable to the coronavi-rus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic.A nationwide data-set that includes more than 99%of the decedents in the U.S.between April 2012 and September 2021 was used.Projected age-standardized mortality during the pandemic were esti-mated according to prepandemic mortality rates,stratified by season.Excess deaths were determined by estimating the difference between observed and projected mortality rates.A temporal trend analysis of observed mortality rates was also performed in 0.83 million decedents with cirrhosis between April 2012 and September 2021 was included.Following an increasing trend of cirrhosis-related mortality before the pandemic,with a semiannual percentage change(SAPC)of 0.54%[95%confidence interval(CI):(0.0-1.0%),p=0.036],a precipitous increase with seasonal variation occurred dur-ing the pandemic(SAPC 5.35,95%CI:1.9-8.9,p=0.005).Significantly increased mortality rates were observed in those with alcohol-associated liver disease(ALD),with a SAPC of 8.44(95%CI:4.3-12.8,p=0.001)during the pandemic.All-cause mortality of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease rose stead-ily across the entire study period with a SAPC of 6.79(95%CI:6.3-7.3,p<0.001).The decreasing trend of HCV-related mortality was reversed during the pandemic,while there was no significant change in HBV-related deaths.While there was significant increase in COVID-19-related deaths,more than 55%of the excess deaths were the indirect impact of the pandemic.We observed an alarming increase in cirrhosis-related deaths during the pandemic especially for ALD,with evidence in both direct and indirect impact.Our findings have implications on formulating policies for patients with cirrhosis. | Yee Hui Yeo Xinyuan He Fan Lv Yunyu Zhao Yi Liu Ju Dong Yang Jian Zu Fanpu Ji Mindie H.Nguyen | 2023 | Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2023,11,3: | 1 |
