Vanishing viscosity of isentropic Navier-Stokes equations for interacting shocks显示文摘We study the vanishing viscosity of the Navier-Stokes equations for interacting shocks. Given an entropy solution to p-system which consists of two different families of shocks interacting at some positive time,we show that such entropy solution is the vanishing viscosity limit of a family of global smooth solutions to the isentropic Navier-Stokes equations. The key point of the proofs is to derive the estimates separately before and after the interaction time and connect the incoming and outgoing viscous shock profiles.HUANG FeiMin WANG Yi WANG Yong YANG Tong 2015Science China Mathematics2015,58,4:6
Numerical Simulation of the Rapid Intensification of Hurricane Katrina(2005):Sensitivity to Boundary Layer Parameterization Schemes显示文摘Accurate forecasting of the intensity changes of hurricanes is an important yet challenging problem in numerical weather prediction. The rapid intensification of Hurricane Katrina(2005) before its landfall in the southern US is studied with the Advanced Research version of the WRF(Weather Research and Forecasting) model. The sensitivity of numerical simulations to two popular planetary boundary layer(PBL) schemes, the Mellor–Yamada–Janjic(MYJ) and the Yonsei University(YSU) schemes, is investigated. It is found that, compared with the YSU simulation, the simulation with the MYJ scheme produces better track and intensity evolution, better vortex structure, and more accurate landfall time and location. Large discrepancies(e.g.,over 10 hPa in simulated minimum sea level pressure) are found between the two simulations during the rapid intensification period. Further diagnosis indicates that stronger surface fluxes and vertical mixing in the PBL from the simulation with the MYJ scheme lead to enhanced air–sea interaction, which helps generate more realistic simulations of the rapid intensification process. Overall, the results from this study suggest that improved representation of surface fluxes and vertical mixing in the PBL is essential for accurate prediction of hurricane intensity changes.Jianjun LIU Feimin ZHANG Zhaoxia PU 2017Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2017,34,4:5
Efficacy of biofeedback therapy via a mini wireless device on sleep bruxism contrasted with occlusal splint:a pilot study显示文摘The putative causes of bruxism are multifactorial and there are no definite measures for bruxism management. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of biofeedback therapy on sleep bruxism, compared with occlusal splint.Twenty-four volunteers with sleep bruxism were divided into two groups:the GTB group that were treated with biofeedback therapy(n 512) and the GTO group that were treated with occlusal splint(n 512).A mini pressure sensor integrated with a monitoring circuit by use of a maxillary biofeedback splint was fabricated. To foster the relaxation of the masticatory muscles and the nervous system, the wireless device received signals from bruxism events and vibrations alerted the bruxer when the threshold was exceeded.Total episodes and average duration of bruxism events during8 hours of sleep were analyzed with the monitoring program(TRMY1.0).After 6 and 12 weeks, the episodes(P 50.001) and duration(P,0.05) in the GTB group declined dramatically. In contrast, there were no significant differences in the GTO group after the treatment(P.0.05).Furthermore,the episodes had significant differences between the GTB group and the GTO group after the same period of treatment(P 5 0.000).The results suggest that biofeedback therapy may be an effective and convenient measure for mild bruxers, when compared with occlusal splint therapy. The mini wireless biofeedback method may be of value for the diagnosis and management of bruxism in the future.WeiPing Gu Jie Yang FeiMin Zhang XinMin Yin XiaoLong Wei Chen Wang 2015The Journal of Biomedical Research2015,29,2:4
ASYMPTOTIC BEHAVIOR OF SOLUTIONS TOWARD THE SUPERPOSITION OF CONTACT DISCONTINUITY AND SHOCK WAVE FOR COMPRESSIBLE NAVIER-STOKES EQUATIONS WITH FREE BOUNDARY显示文摘A free boundary problem for the one-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes equations is investigated. The asymptotic behavior of solutions toward the superposition of contact discontinuity and shock wave is established under some smallness conditions. To do this,we first construct a new viscous contact wave such that the momentum equation is satisfied exactly and then determine the shift of the viscous shock wave.By using them together with an inequality concerning the heat kernel in the half space,we obtain the desired a priori estimates. The proof is based on the elementary energy method by the anti-derivative argument.Hakho Hong Feimin Huang 2012Acta Mathematica Scientia2012,32,1:4
Zero Dissipation Limit to Rarefaction Waves for the 1-D Compressible Navier-Stokes Equations显示文摘The zero dissipation limit for the one-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations of compressible, isentropic gases in the case that the corresponding Euler equations have rarefaction wave solutions is investigated in this paper. In a paper(Comm.Pure Appl.Math.,46,1993,621-665) by Z.P.Xin,the author constructed a sequence of solutions to one-dimensional Navier-Stokes isentropic equations converging to the rarefaction wave as the viscosity tends to zero.Furthermore,he obtained that the convergence rate is ε 1/4 | ln ε|.In this paper,Xin's convergence rate is improved to ε1/3|lnε|2 by different scaling arguments. The new scaling has various applications in related problems.Feimin HUANG Xing LI 2012Chinese Annals of Mathematics,Series B2012,33,3:4
A new method to standardize CBCT for quantitative evaluation of alveolar ridge preservation in the mandible:a case report and review of the literature显示文摘Cone-beam computerized tomography(CBCT)is an effective technique for assessment of changes to the alveolar ridge(AR).However, its accuracy and reliability could be improved by standardization of imaging positions to remain unchanged during measurements. In this study,an alveolar ridge preservation procedure was performed on a left third molar(38)socket by filling it with a radiotransparent synthetic bone graft, mineralized collagen(MC).Photographic,X-ray and CBCT images were captured before and 3,6 and 12 months after surgery.A new method was developed to standardize CBCT for quantitative evaluation.Obtained CBCT images showed good comparability. The post-extraction alveolar width and height were both over 95%of the original values, but some resorption of the lingual bone wall(>50%)and inter-crestal bone(>30%).It is concluded that an effective positional standardization method was developed for CBCT assessment of AR dimensional changes in the posterior mandible. The use of MC in combination with a collagen membrane improved dimensional preservation of the AR.Yang Xia Lizhe Xie Yi Zhou Tianxi Song Feimin Zhang Ning Gu 2015Regenerative Biomaterials2015,2,4:3

Thermal Creep Flow for the Boltzmann Equation显示文摘It is known that the Boltzmann equation has close relation to the classical systems in fluid dynamics. However, it provides more information on the microscopic level so that some phenomena, like the thermal creep flow, can not be modeled by the classical systems of fluid dynamics, such as the Euler equations. The author gives an example to show this phenomenon rigorously in a special setting. This paper is completely based on the author's recent work, jointly with Wang and Yang.Feimin HUANG 2015Chinese Annals of Mathematics,Series B2015,36,5:1

Impacts of Soil Moisture on the Numerical Simulation of a Post-Landfall Storm显示文摘Surface heat and moisture fluxes are important to the evolution of a tropical storm after its landfall. Soil moisture is one of the essential components that influence surface heating and moisture fluxes. In this study, the impact of soil moisture on a pre-landfall numerical simulation of Tropical Storm Bill(2015), which had a much longer lifespan over land, is investigated by using the research version of the NCEP Hurricane Weather Research and Forecasting(HWRF) model. It is found that increased soil moisture with SLAB scheme before storm's landfall tends to produce a weaker storm after landfall and has negative impacts on storm track simulation. Further diagnoses with different land surface schemes and sensitivity experiments indicate that the increase in soil moisture inside the storm corresponds to a strengthened vertical mixing within the storm boundary layer, which is conducive to the decay of storm and has negative impacts on storm evolution. In addition, surface diabatic heating effects over the storm environment are also found to be an important positive contribution to the storm evolution over land, but their impacts are not so substantial as boundary layer vertical mixing inside the storm. The overall results highlight the importance and uncertainty of soil moisture in numerical model simulations of landfalling hurricanes and their further evolution over land.Feimin ZHANG Zhaoxia PU Chenghai WANG 2019Journal of Meteorological Research2019,33,2:1
