| 2 | Application of next-generation sequencing technology to precision medicine in cancer: joint consensus of the Tumor Biomarker Committee of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology显示文摘Next-generation sequencing(NGS) technology is capable of sequencing millions or billions of DNA molecules simultaneously.Therefore, it represents a promising tool for the analysis of molecular targets for the initial diagnosis of disease, monitoring of disease progression, and identifying the mechanism of drug resistance. On behalf of the Tumor Biomarker Committee of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology(CSCO) and the China Actionable Genome Consortium(CAGC), the present expert group hereby proposes advisory guidelines on clinical applications of NGS technology for the analysis of cancer driver genes for precision cancer therapy. This group comprises an assembly of laboratory cancer geneticists, clinical oncologists, bioinformaticians,pathologists, and other professionals. After multiple rounds of discussions and revisions, the expert group has reached a preliminary consensus on the need of NGS in clinical diagnosis, its regulation, and compliance standards in clinical sample collection. | 3 | Cigarette Smoking Increases Risk for Incident Metabolic Syndrome in Chinese Men—Shanghai Diabetes Study显示文摘Objective To determine whether smoking increases the risk for developing metabolic syndrome (MetS) in Chinese men.Methods A total of 693 men with no MetS at baseline were followed for 2.9‐5.5 years.Subjects were divided into nonsmokers,ex‐smokers,and current smokers according to baseline smoking status.Results After adjusting for age,education level,alcohol intake,fasting plasma insulin,HOMA‐IR index,and BMI at baseline and weight change,current smokers were dose‐dependently associated with increased risk for developing new MetS compared with nonsmokers.The odds ratio (OR) was 2.131 (95% CI,1.264,3.592;P<0.01) for the NCEPIII definition or 3.083 (95% CI,1.807,5.295;P<0.01) for the JCDCG definition of MetS.Ex‐smokers who had quit for ≥13 years significantly decreased the risk for developing new MetS defined by the JCDCG definition.Compared with nonsmokers,current smokers were significantly associated with increased incidence of hypertriglyceridemia and low HDL‐C.Conclusion Smoking is a risk factor for developing MetS in Chinese men after adjusting for age,education level,alcohol intake,fasting plasma insulin,HOMA‐IR,BMI,and weight change.This could be due to an increased incidence of dyslipidemia.Smoking cessation for >13 years decreased the risk for developing MetS defined by the JCDCG definition. | ZHU YunXia ZHANG MingLiang HOU XuHong LU JunXi PENG LiangPu GU HuiLin WANG Chen JIA WeiPing | 2011 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2011,24,5: | 13 |
| 4 | The heterogeneity of islet autoantibodies and the progression of islet failure in type 1 diabetic patients显示文摘Type 1 diabetes mellitus is heterogeneous in many facets. The patients suffered from type 1 diabetes present several levels of islet function as well as variable number and type of islet-specific autoantibodies. This study was to investigate prevalence and heterogeneity of the islet autoantibodies and clinical phenotypes of type 1 diabetes mellitus; and also discussed the process of islet failure and its risk factors in Chinese type 1 diabetic patients. A total of 1,291 type 1 diabetic patients were enrolled in this study. Demographic information was collected. Laboratory tests including mixed-meal tolerance test, human leukocyte antigen alleles, hemoglobin A1 c, lipids, thyroid function and islet autoantibodies were conducted. The frequency of islet-specific autoantibody in newly diagnosed T1 DM patients(duration shorter than half year) was 73% in East China. According to binary logistic regressions, autoantibody positivity, longer duration and lower Body Mass Index were the risk factors of islet failure. As the disease developed, autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase declined as well as the other two autoantibodies against zinc transporter 8 and islet antigen 2. The decrease of autoantibodies was positively correlated with aggressive beta cell destruction. Autoantibodies can facilitate the identification of classic T1 DM from other subtypes and predict the progression of islet failure. | 5 | Efficacy of biofeedback therapy via a mini wireless device on sleep bruxism contrasted with occlusal splint:a pilot study显示文摘The putative causes of bruxism are multifactorial and there are no definite measures for bruxism management.The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of biofeedback therapy on sleep bruxism,compared with occlusal splint.Twenty-four volunteers with sleep bruxism were divided into two groups:the GTB group that were treated with biofeedback therapy(n 512) and the GTO group that were treated with occlusal splint(n 512).A mini pressure sensor integrated with a monitoring circuit by use of a maxillary biofeedback splint was fabricated.To foster the relaxation of the masticatory muscles and the nervous system,the wireless device received signals from bruxism events and vibrations alerted the bruxer when the threshold was exceeded.Total episodes and average duration of bruxism events during8 hours of sleep were analyzed with the monitoring program(TRMY1.0).After 6 and 12 weeks,the episodes(P 50.001) and duration(P,0.05) in the GTB group declined dramatically.In contrast,there were no significant differences in the GTO group after the treatment(P.0.05).Furthermore,the episodes had significant differences between the GTB group and the GTO group after the same period of treatment(P 5 0.000).The results suggest that biofeedback therapy may be an effective and convenient measure for mild bruxers,when compared with occlusal splint therapy.The mini wireless biofeedback method may be of value for the diagnosis and management of bruxism in the future. | WeiPing Gu Jie Yang FeiMin Zhang XinMin Yin XiaoLong Wei Chen Wang | 2015 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2015,29,2: | 4 |

| 7 | Effective doctor-patient communication skills training optimizes functional organization of intrinsic brain architecture:a restingstate functional MRI study显示文摘We studied the influence of doctor-patient communication skills training on brain functional architecture using resting-state functional MRI(rs-fMRI) with a regional homogeneity(ReHo) method. Ten medical students participated in the study. A 1-year long doctor-patient communication skills training program was conducted. RsfMRI data were collected at baseline, one month and one year after training. There was a significant increase in the communication skills test average scores between baseline and 1-month duration of training(P<0.001). After one month of communication skills training, medical students had decreased ReHo in the right superior temporal gyrus compared with the baseline. After one year of communication skills training, students had increased ReHo in multiple regions and decreased ReHo in several regions(P <0.05, Alphasim corrected). The change of ReHo values in the superior temporal gyrus negatively correlated with the change of communication skills scale score between one month after communication skills training and baseline(r=-0.734, P= 0.036). | 9 | Effects of different forms of nitrogen addition on microbial extracellular enzyme activity in temperate grassland soil显示文摘Background:Nitrogen(N)deposition alters litter decomposition and soil carbon(C)sequestration by influencing the microbial community and its enzyme activity.Natural atmospheric N deposition comprises of inorganic N(IN)and organic N(ON)compounds.However,most studies have focused on IN and its effect on soil C cycling,whereas the effect of ON on microbial enzyme activity is poorly understood.Here we studied the effects of different forms of externally supplied N on soil enzyme activities related to decomposition in a temperate steppe.Ammonium nitrate was chosen as IN source,whereas urea and glycine were chosen as ON sources.Different ratios of IN to ON(Control,10:0,7:3,5:5,3:7,and 0:10)were mixed with equal total amounts of N and then used to fertilize the grassland soils for 6 years.Results:Our results show that IN deposition inhibited lignin-degrading enzyme activity,such as phenol oxidase(POX)and peroxidase(PER),which may restrain decomposition and thus induce accumulation of recalcitrant organic C in grassland soils.By contrast,deposition of ON and mixed ON and IN enhanced most of the C-degrading enzyme activities,which may promote the organic matter decomposition in grassland soils.In addition,theβ-N-acetyl-glucosaminidase(NAG)activity was remarkably stimulated by fertilization with both IN and ON,maybe because of the elevated N availability and the lack of N limitation after long-term N fertilization at the grassland site.Meanwhile,differences in soil pH,soil dissolved organic carbon(DOC),and microbial biomass partially explained the differential effects on soil enzyme activity under different forms of N treatments.Conclusions:Our results emphasize the importance of organic N deposition in controlling soil processes,which are regulated by microbial enzyme activities,and may consequently change the ecological effect of N deposition.Thus,more ON deposition may promote the decomposition of soil organic matter thus converting C sequestration in grassland soils into a C source. | Lili Dong Björn Berg Weiping Gu Zhengwen Wang Tao Sun | 2022 | Ecological Processes2022,11,1: | 1 |
