1Preoperative therapy in locally advanced esophageal cancer显示文摘Esophageal cancer is an aggressive malignancy associated with dismal treatment outcomes. Presence of two distinct histopathological types distinguishes it from other gastrointestinal tract malignancies. Surgery is the cornerstone of treatment in locally advanced esophageal cancer(T2 or greater or node positive); however, a high rate of disease recurrence(systemic and loco-regional) and poor survival justifies a continued search for optimal therapy. Various combinations of multimodality treatment(preoperative/perioperative, or postoperative; radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or chemoradiotherapy) are being explored to lower disease recurrence and improve survival. Preoperative therapy followed by surgery is presently considered the standard of care in resectable locally advanced esophageal cancer as postoperative treatment may not be feasible for all the patients due to the morbidity of esophagectomy and prolonged recovery time limiting the tolerance of patient. There are wide variations in the preoperative therapy practiced across the centres depending upon the institutional practices, availability of facilities and personal experiences. There is paucity of literature to standardize the preoperative therapy. Broadly, chemoradiotherapy is the preferred neo-adjuvant modality in western countries whereas chemotherapy alone is considered optimal in the far East. 3Autochthonous halotolerant plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria promote bacoside A yield of Bacopa monnieri(L.)Nash and phytoextraction of salt-affected soil显示文摘Phytoremediation is a promising approach for reclamation of salt-affected soil.Phytoextraction is the most commonly used process,which exploits plants to absorb,immobilize,and accumulate salt in their shoots.In this study,halotolerant plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria(PGPR)were isolated from the rhizosphere of wild grasses growing naturally in salt-affected areas of Lucknow,Uttar Pradesh(India)and were tested for their efficacies of salt-tolerance and plant growth-promoting(PGP)abilities.Based on 16S rRNA sequences,the most efficient halotolerant isolates possessing PGP traits were identified as Pseudomonas plecoglossicida(KM 233646),Acinetobacter calcoaceticus(KM 233647),Bacillus flexus(KM 233648),and Bacillus safensis(KM 233652).Application of these isolates as bio-inoculants significantly(P<0.05)increased the growth and bacoside A yield of a medicinal plant,Bacopa monnieri(L.)Nash,grown on natural salt-affected soil.The phytoremediation of salt-affected soil was evident by the substantial increase in shoot Na^+:K^+ratio of bio-inoculant-treated plants.When compared to un-inoculated control plants,the soil physico-chemical properties of bio-inoculant-treated plants were improved.The shoot and root biomass(fresh and dry weights),soil enzymes,and soil nutrient parameters showed significant positive correlations with the shoot Na+:K+ratio.Consequently,the halotolerant PGPR screened in this study could be useful for the reclamation of saline soils concomitant with improved plant growth and bacoside A yield.Umesh PANKAJ Durgesh Narain SINGH Pooja MISHRA Pooja GAUR C.S.Vivek BABU Karuna SHANKER Rajesh Kumar VERMA 2020Pedosphere2020,30,5:9

5Establishment of high frequency shoot regeneration system in Himalayan poplar(Populus ciliata Wall. ex Royle) from petiole explants using Thidiazuron cytokinin as plant growth regulator显示文摘Populus species are important resources for industry and in scientific study on biological and agricultural systems. Our objective was to enhance the frequency of plant regeneration in Himalayan poplar(Populus ciliata wall. ex Royle). The effect of TDZ alone and in combination with adenine and NAA was studied on the regeneration potential of petiole explants. The explants were excised from Himalayan poplar plants grown in glasshouses. After surface sterilization the explants were cultured on shoot induction medium. High percentage shoot regeneration(86 %) was recorded on MS medium supplemented with 0.004 mg L^-1TDZ and 79.7 mg L^-1adenine. The regenerated shoots for elongation and multiplication were transferred to MS + 0.5 mg L^-1BAP + 0.2 mg L^-1IAA +0.3 mg L-1GA3. Root regeneration from shoots developed in vitro was observed on MS medium supplemented with 0.10 mg L^-1IBA. Himalayan poplar plantlets could be produced within2 months after acclimatization in a sterile mixture of sand and soil. 8Computational interaction analysis of organophosphorus pesticides with different metabolic proteins in humans显示文摘Pesticides have the potential to leave harmful effects on humans,animals,other living organisms,and the environment.Several human metabolic proteins inhibited after exposure to organophosphorus pesticides absorbed through the skin,inhalation,eyes and oral mucosa,are most important targets for this interaction study.The crystal structure of five different proteins,PDBIDs:3LII,3NXU,4GTU,2XJ1 and 1YXA in Homo sapiens (H.sapiens),interact with organophosphorus pesticides at the molecular level.The 3-D structures were found to be of good quality and validated through PROCHECK,ERRAT and ProSA servers.The results show that the binding energy is maximum-45.21 relative units of cytochrome P450 protein with phosmet pesticide.In terms of H-bonding,methyl parathion and parathion with acetylcholinesterase protein,parathion,methylparathion and phosmet with protein kinase C show the highest interaction.We conclude that these organophosphorus pesticides are more toxic and inhibit enzymatic activity by interrupting the metabolic pathways in H.sapiens.Amit Kumar Sharma Karuna Gaur Rajeev Kumar Tiwari Mulayam Singh Gaur 2011The Journal of Biomedical Research2011,25,5:3

11Enveloping Relief Surfaces of Landslide Terrain显示文摘Two relief surfaces that envelop the rock fall region in a part of Garhwal Himalayas around Chamoli have been identified. Relative relief and absolute relief have been analyzed and the enveloping surfaces recorded at two levels of relief in the landscape. All landslide activity lies within these surfaces. The lower enveloping surface (800 m) dips due south by 7-8 degrees,due to an elevation rise of 100 meters within 12 km from south to north,i.e.,a gradient of 8 percent. The nature of the surface is smooth. The upper enveloping surface (> 2500 m) is almost parallel to the lower one but its surface is undulatory due to landslides and denudation. The area has been a seismically active region and has undergone seismic activity up until recently,as evidenced by the Chamoli earthquake of 29th March 1999. 12Cardioprotective activity of alcoholic extract of Tinospora cordifolia (Willd.) Miers in calcium chloride-induced cardiac arrhythmia in rats显示文摘The present study investigated the antiarrhythmic activity of alcoholic extract of Tinospora cordifolia (T.cordifolia) in CaCl 2 induced arrhythmia.CaCl 2 (25 mg/kg) was administered by intravenous infusion (iv) to produce arrhythmia in rats.The animals were then treated with T.cordifolia extract (150,250,and 450 mg/kg) and verapamil (5 mg/kg,iv).Lead II electrocardiogram was monitored.Plasma calcium,sodium and potassium levels were measured.In CaCl 2 induced arrhythmia,heart rate was decreased by 41.10%,T.cordifolia at 150,300,and 450 mg/kg decreased the heart rate by 26.30%,29.16%,and 38.29%,respectively,and verapamil reduced the heart rate by 9.70% compared to the normal group.The PQRST waves were normalized and atrial and ventricular fibrillation was controlled in rats treated with verapamil and T.cordifolia.CaCl 2 increased calcium and sodium levels and decreased potassium levels in blood.T.cordifolia dose-dependently decreased calcium and sodium levels and increased potassium levels.Hence,T.cordifolia can be used in antiarrhythmic clinical settings and beneficial in atrial and ventricular fibrillation and flutter and may be indicated in ventricular tachyarrhythmia.Ashish Kumar Sharma Kunal Kishore Divya Sharma B.P Srinivasan Shyam Sunder Agarwal Ashok Sharma Santosh Kumar Singh Samir Gaur Vijay Singh Jatav 2011The Journal of Biomedical Research2011,25,4:2
