1Influence of diversion angle on water and sediment flow into diversion channel显示文摘Accumulation of the sediment in the stream of the diversion channels adversely affects its operational systems.Diversion channels are often constructed perpendicular to the main river.In this study,the water flow and sediment transport in the diversion channel with different angles were investigated in an attempt to maximize water discharge and minimize sediment discharge.A physical model with movable bed was used to simulate water and sediment flow with five diversion angles(θ)between(30°-90°).Moreover,three bed width ratios(Br)(the relation between diversion to main channel bed width)between 30%and 50%and five total discharges between(7.25 L/s to 12.25 L/s)were considered for each case of(θ).The results showed,up to 10%,increasing in proportion discharge ratios for 30 and 45 diversion angles compared with 90° diversion angle.The results also showed that the lowest diversion sediment concentration was provided by the(θ)of 30°.Across all scenarios,the average proportion concentration reduction was 64%,compared with 90diversion angle.Closer observation of the diversion system mechanism confirmed that decreased(θ)result in decreased sediment concentrations in the diversion channels.In conclusion,the diversion channel water and sediment discharge could be effectively managed by changing the(θ)to 30° or 45° instead of 90°.Nashwan Kamalaldeen Alomari Badronnisa Yusuf Thamer Ahmad Mohammad Abdul Halim Ghazali 2020International Journal of Sediment Research2020,35,6:4
2The effect of renal stones on serum adenosine aminohydrolase and AMP-aminohydrolase in Malaysia显示文摘Objective: To verify possible associations between adenosine aminohydrolase(ADA) and AMP-aminohydrolase(AMPDA) to E3 SUMO-protein ligase NSE2(NSMCE2) in patients with renal stones. And to isolate, purify and characterize ADA in patients with renal stones and healthy group.Methods: A total of 60 renal stones patients and 50 control were enrolled in a case-control study. The blood urea, creatinine, uric acid, protein, albumin, ADA and AMPDA were measured by colorimetric tests. The serum NSMCE2 was measured by ELISA.Results: Serum ADA, AMPDA and specii c activity of enzymes showed signii cant decrease(P < 0.05) in patients with renal stones compared to control group, mean levels of sera NSMCE2 and uric acid had a signii cant increase(P < 0.01 and P < 0.05, respectively) in patients compared to control group.Conclusions: The present study suggests that ADA, AMP deaminase and NSMCE2 can be used as a indicator to monitor the DNA damage and inl ammation disorders in the patients with kidney stones.Faridah Yusof Atheer Awad Mehde Wesen Adel Mehdi Hamid Ghazali Azlina Abd Rahman 2015Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2015,5,6:3

4High omega arachidonic acid/docosahexaenoic acid ratio induces mitochondrial dysfunction and altered lipid metabolism in human hepatoma cells显示文摘BACKGROUND Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) is a common cause of liver disease worldwide and is a growing epidemic. A high ratio of omega-6 fatty acids to omega-3 fatty acids in the diet has been implicated in the development of NAFLD. However, the inflicted cellular pathology remains unknown. A high ratio may promote lipogenic pathways and contribute to reactive oxygen species(ROS)-mediated damage, perhaps leading to mitochondrial dysfunction.Therefore, these parameters were investigated to understand their contribution to NAFLD development.AIM To examine the effect of increasing ratios of omega-6:3 fatty acids on mitochondrial function and lipid metabolism mediators.METHODS Hep G2-derived VL-17 A cells were treated with normal(1:1, 4:1) and high(15:1,25:1) ratios of omega-6: omega-3 fatty acids [arachidonic acid(AA):docosahexaenoic acid(DHA)] at various time points. Mitochondrial activity and function were examined via MTT assay and Seahorse XF24 analyzer, respectively.Triglyceride accumulation was determined by using Enzy Chrom? and levels of ROS were measured by fluorescence intensity. Protein expression of the mediators of lipogenic, lipolytic and endocannabinoid pathways was assessed by Western blotting.RESULTS High AA:DHA ratio decreased mitochondrial activity(P < 0.01;up to 80%) and promoted intracellular triglyceride accumulation(P < 0.05;40%-70%).Mechanistically, it altered the mediators of lipid metabolism;increased the expression of stearoyl-Co A desaturase(P < 0.05;22%-35%), decreased the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha(P < 0.05;30%-40%) and increased the expression of cannabinoid receptor 1(P < 0.05;31%).Furthermore, the high ratio increased ROS production(P < 0.01;74%-115%) and reduced mitochondrial respiratory functions such as basal and maximal respiration, ATP production, spare respiratory capacity and proton leak(P < 0.01;35%-68%).CONCLUSION High AA:DHA ratio induced triglyceride accumulation, increased oxidative stress and disrupted mitochondrial functions.
